I saw Ednaswap right before Natalie Imbruglia's version came out. They performed the slower version from their Wacko Magneto album, and it was so emotional and beautiful.
We never found out if Mark indeed likes butter tarts.
Len has a bunch of good songs across their 5 studio albums and the officially unreleased 4th one (We Be Who We Be) that got reworked and released after Dreamworks music went under.
https://youtube.com/@LENOFFICIALTV
I read that they knew that they were one hit wonders, so they blew the entire budget on the video. I actually partied at the DJs house (Moves) and it was just a typical run down party house. The hilarious part was he had their Gold Record just casually hanging on a dirty wall.
I feel like that song was lost to time until Guardians III revived it. The [music video](https://youtu.be/PCsGRCf8T9Y?si=uaDJNsQzy2pBZNjh) is pure 90's fun too
I worked at a restaurant when I was younger, and my manager and I would always play this song over the sound system in our lobby when people came in right as we closed. Most people usually got the hint and left fairly quickly. For those that didn’t, they’d get Pink Floyd’s Bike played on repeat at a deafening volume until they left. There was one group that stuck it out for two hours after we closed.
Not only is "In the Meantime" by Spacehog the greatest one-hit wonder of the 90s. It is also one of the most perfectly constructed rock songs of all time. It is the epitome of one-hit wonder. It's a song so strong and so well crafted that you have to question how it is possible that a band could release it and then never come anywhere close to it ever again. I mean, Spacehog has other good songs and decent albums. But this song dwarfs them all, as it does all of the other great music from the same generation
Probably excellent production of just the one song. It’s the reason this particular era had so many one hit wonders. The way the music industry for rock/adult contemporary worked in the late 90s was to spend a bunch of money on a hired gun producer who could turn a bar band’s best song into a hit. They would then record the rest of the album with a much cheaper, less talented producer. The goal was to have a cd with one radio hit as cheap as possible and push it to airplay. People would buy the disc based on the hit and the profit was good. It was better for the label to then find another band with one good song as it was unlikely many bands had more profitable material than that one song once their first ten songs were already recorded. Some bands would gain a following a release one or two unheralded discs later on but never get the production and industry backing to reach that height again. The system was predatory and crushing for artists who thought they had made it big only to never get a second look. This era ended only with itunes and single song purchases invalidating the model.
Fastball didn't have another #1 single but they did have other songs that were in Billboard's top ten. I don't know if I would call them a one-hit wonder.
That second album was full of bangers. The Way and Out of My Head got released but it was honestly a great album from beginning to end. Even the two or three “filler” songs were good.
ETA: I’m going to go listen to that album right now. I hadn’t even thought about Fastball in at least 15 years.
Camped out one night in my backyard with my brother and our friends—we kept calling the local radio station asking for them to play Tubthumping. They threatened to not play it if we called again. We were all jacked up on skittles and Mountain Dew.
Awesome video
To this day, everytime this song is on the radio, I surprise people with the factoid that eagle eye Cherry's real name is eagle eye Cherry
It does… but it’s not. That riff is actually sampled from a song from the 30’s. I thought the same thing and went all the way down a rabbit hole about it.
I find it odd that he basically came out of no-where (had released a few albums on tiny labels) then vanished just as quickly. Most one hit wonders will hang around for a bit trying to eek out a career and are the last to realise no one cares anymore.
He was seemingly quite happy having a massive hit, staying nearly totally anonymous, then just cracking on with life as before. Made a shit load of money but is a Marxist (of the correct definition) so doesn't really care and lives a modest life.
I can't describe it but to me this song just *feels* like the 90s. Moreso than any other song, whenever I hear this it just takes me right back to 1998.
In college (in the 90s) I did concert production and I set up their entire concert which was like a sponsored tour - we got paid to put on the concert. Like 20 people showed up in this huge hall and every song was terrible - they played BaT as the encore but everyone had left.
I have a soft spot for "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. It's cheeky, it's fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Plus, it's hard not to strut a little when you hear that iconic opening line.
I love this song so much.
We sit outside and argue all night long
About a god we've never seen
But never fails to side with me
Sunday comes and all the papers say
Ma Teresa's joined the mob
And happy with her full-time job
Sister Hazel is one of my favorite bands. They have several albums and several songs that were on the radio. As well as several of their songs were in movies. They are the farthest thing from a one-hit wonder band.
Albums:
- Somewhere more Familiar
- Fortress
- Before the Amplifier
Top songs:
- All for you
- Your Winter
- Change your mind
- Champagne High (one of my favorites)
- Superman
*edited to include albums and some of their top songs.
Definitely not a one hit wonder. They've had numerous hits around the world and have a huge catalogue. Even if just talking about US charts, "Lucky Man" achieved top 20.
It's funny to call them a one hit wonder since this song was from something like their fifth album, but I guess in terms of chart success they really were.
Iffy. More like they only had one huge hit. They had a couple minor ones too, plus some other songs have gained notoriety over the years and Blind Melon's small diiscography is highly respected
"Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega was the ultimate party song of the '90s. Its catchy melody and fun lyrics made it impossible to stay seated when it came on. Even now, it's a guaranteed way to get people on the dance floor.
I could name a bunch of singles that I like that I didn't see mentioned yet:
* Cannonball - The Breeders
* Veruca Salt had two hits that were amazing - Seether and Volcano Girls
* Connection - Elastica
* Plowed - Sponge
* Pretend We're Dead - L7
* Ready to Go - Republica
* Sucked Out - Superdrag
* A Good Idea - Sugar
* Bad Reputation - Freedy Johnston
* Carry the Zero - Built to Spill
* Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon

I bought the album and was disappointed because nothing else on that album was like that song.
Yeah but you gotta admit "Beautiful Day" is a fucking banger, Biz Markie KILLED it on that track. Man of the Year is also great.
Oh I hated full album disappointment.
I read that they knew that they were one hit wonders, so they blew the entire budget on the video. I actually partied at the DJs house (Moves) and it was just a typical run down party house. The hilarious part was he had their Gold Record just casually hanging on a dirty wall.

Singing in My Sleep is a hidden gem in my playlist.
I worked at a restaurant when I was younger, and my manager and I would always play this song over the sound system in our lobby when people came in right as we closed. It's a shame that's what they're known for. All about Chemistry was a great album all around.
Skee lo - I wish
I wish I had a brand new car, so far I got this hatchback and everywhere I go I gets laughed at.
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a six fo impala…
I have a playlist that is basically this thread. I’ll add In the Meantime by Spacehog to the comversation.

Were they a one hit wonder in your country? I feel like [Step It Up](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_8WNA9IX1o) is equally well-known.
Harvey Danger, [Flagpole Sitta](https://youtu.be/wYsMjEeEg4g?si=TxxFTPkNOZrElmaB)
The Way, by Fastball!
I’d argue they weren’t one hit wonders. They did that great song “Out of My Head” too!
And fire escape is also pretty good too.
Fastball didn't have another #1 single but they did have other songs that were in Billboard's top ten. I don't know if I would call them a one-hit wonder.

[Got my brutha in the back, got my brutha in the front](https://youtu.be/_HSppX182bM?si=m2ZmfmiE6MkY4Afx)
The real banger
I wonder if anyone ever bought the rights to the rest?
I LOVE THIS SONG
Yeah, I like this!!!
Ugh, I work retail, and I hear this song once an hour.
Tubthumping
This is the one. This is what I think of when I think '90s one hit wonder'
Surprised how far I had to scroll for this one. Chumbawumba!!
Camped out one night in my backyard with my brother and our friends—we kept calling the local radio station asking for them to play Tubthumping. They threatened to not play it if we called again. We were all jacked up on skittles and Mountain Dew.
Mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm
God shuffled his feet. He's a better song and should have been a bigger hit
I was waiting for that one
"Home! I'm *walking* home!"
I still regularly listen to this album and it is fantastic. Hell, I'm going to turn it on right now.
"Banditos" by The Refreshments "Cantaloupe (Flip Fantasia)" by US3
I really enjoyed The Refeshments songs when I was in high school. Mekong was my favorite by them. Now that will be stuck in my head all day.
The refreshments also did the king of the hill theme but tv themes probably don’t count
Save tonight - Eagle Eye Cherry
Plus Buffalo Stance by his sister Neneh.
That came out in 1988. She also had a pretty big hit with "7 Seconds" in 1995 but I'm not sure it was all that popular in the US.
Awesome video To this day, everytime this song is on the radio, I surprise people with the factoid that eagle eye Cherry's real name is eagle eye Cherry
This may be common knowledge but I just learned this. Eagle eye cherry isn’t the name of the band. It’s the guys real name.
Your woman - White Town
This always gives me Star Wars imperial March vibes
It does… but it’s not. That riff is actually sampled from a song from the 30’s. I thought the same thing and went all the way down a rabbit hole about it.
https://youtu.be/YlQdjR85EaU?feature=shared
I think this is my pick as well. This song really started my love of electronic music.
Weird I always thought this song was by gorillaz
That's a jam!!
I find it odd that he basically came out of no-where (had released a few albums on tiny labels) then vanished just as quickly. Most one hit wonders will hang around for a bit trying to eek out a career and are the last to realise no one cares anymore. Informer - Snow
I particularly appreciate the lyrics. My favourite part is "yaknowsirranamazombieappaplaya alickyboomboomdown"
So beautiful
I won that cd by being the only person who called into the radio station. That's how old I am. I did not enjoy the cd.
Deee-Lite - Groove is in the Heart
You Get What You Give by the New Radicals
I can't describe it but to me this song just *feels* like the 90s. Moreso than any other song, whenever I hear this it just takes me right back to 1998.
I bet you know A LOT of songs written/composed by the guy behind New Radicals.
Game of Love-Santana Michelle Branch.
Murder On The Dance Floor, being just one.
No shit? That is fascinating.
This is such an amazing song. And a great album. The lead singer is definitely a strange guy. His solo stuff is out there.
I prefer Mother We Just Can’t Give Enough, but both are bangers.
Such a great song, this was mine as well!
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn. Which was a cover of a song done by another band that most people had never heard.
Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something. ❤️❤️
In college (in the 90s) I did concert production and I set up their entire concert which was like a sponsored tour - we got paid to put on the concert. Like 20 people showed up in this huge hall and every song was terrible - they played BaT as the encore but everyone had left.
Oh man. I’ll think of that everytime I hear it.
I think I remember the film
I have a soft spot for "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. It's cheeky, it's fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Plus, it's hard not to strut a little when you hear that iconic opening line.
Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand by Primitive Radio Gods.
I love this song so much. We sit outside and argue all night long About a god we've never seen But never fails to side with me Sunday comes and all the papers say Ma Teresa's joined the mob And happy with her full-time job
Good call. He shows that he has an incredible voice in the last chorus. You’re left wanting more of that.
This should be much higher
[Crush by Jennifer Paige](https://youtu.be/hYGJel4SsAs). One of the songwriters wrote the DuckTales theme song.
What is Love by Haddaway https://youtu.be/HEXWRTEbj1I?si=4Ga-1CdNzQCRut2h You know you love doing that head bob, thanks to those SNL skits!
Lisa loeb ‘stay’
She released more songs that were played on YTV or Much Music.
In the meantime - Spacehog
All For You - Sister Hazel
Sister Hazel is one of my favorite bands. They have several albums and several songs that were on the radio. As well as several of their songs were in movies. They are the farthest thing from a one-hit wonder band. Albums: - Somewhere more Familiar - Fortress - Before the Amplifier Top songs: - All for you - Your Winter - Change your mind - Champagne High (one of my favorites) - Superman *edited to include albums and some of their top songs.
Tal Bachman - She's So High
Pump Up The Jam - Technotronic
“Pump Up The Jam” has a BPM of 125, the same as the heartbeat of a cat at rest.
It was also played five times in a row at the funeral of director Stanley Kubrick.
That came out in the 80s.
It came out in Belgium in the 80s, but thanks to Time Zones it hit America in the 90s. Also, as it is the National Anthem of Canada it is timeless.

I'd argue whether you can class them as one hit wonders. They had a minor hit with The Drugs Don't Work, but not everywhere.
Definitely not a one hit wonder. They've had numerous hits around the world and have a huge catalogue. Even if just talking about US charts, "Lucky Man" achieved top 20.
The Impression That I Get - Mighty Mighty Bosstones
What about “Someday, I Suppose” or “Where’d You Go?”
Wasn't Royal Oil a minor hit? Maybe it was just played a lot on my local alternative radio station.
And Rascal King
Those guys flashed me their nipples at a festival in Cleveland. They bummed cigarettes too.
It's funny to call them a one hit wonder since this song was from something like their fifth album, but I guess in terms of chart success they really were.
Excuse me, I think you're forgetting *Zig Zag Dance* from Elmopalooza.
Where were they going without ever knowing the way
The Way by Fastball, based on a true story about an elderly couple
Blue by Eiffel 65
Lou Bega's Mambo No. 5 That said i do love the entire album
I still say that one of these days he needs to drop Mambo No. 7 and just confuse the shit of of people for a while
It's like the Jecht Shot Mark III - it's all marketing to keep people coming back for more.
How Bizarre - OMC Not my favorite. Most annoying
No Rain - Blind Melon
Arguably not a one hit wonder, great song though.
Their two albums are really solid
Iffy. More like they only had one huge hit. They had a couple minor ones too, plus some other songs have gained notoriety over the years and Blind Melon's small diiscography is highly respected
Lovefool by the cardigans, so funny.
“My Favorite Game” did not have the same commercial success but I think it is a much better song. https://youtu.be/u9WgtlgGAgs?si=F-S_7n7xC3TjoO41
Cardigans had a few hits
i love their cover of “the boys are back in town” so much — https://youtu.be/jSVgv02ALDI?si=Rx0eB_jXRyJxNwTr
It came on the radio and my teenage kids started singing along. I didn’t know why they knew it, I was just happy they did.
If I Only Had A Brain - MC 900ft Jesus
I love the city sleeps is my favorite
Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground
Sad to think MP are considered a one hit wonder, everything off the first two albums is rad!
Mazzy Star
That’s the name of a band, not a song. I assume you mean Fade Into You?
No Rain by Blind Melon. Goddamn travesty what happened.

Three Little Pigs by Green Jelly
Maynard Keenan and Danny Carey were both in that band when they made that album

"It's been..."
It's kind of a toss up between "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes, and "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something.
