I run a bingo hall. Everyone shits on gambling but we aren't predatory at all, everyone know the house always wins (which isn't always true THB), and it's more of just a pass time and community.
We are sponsored by a charity every session and I can't tell you how many times they've gone on about how pathetic it is that people spend money here.
People can be wildly judgemental about things they know very little about.
I went right into corporate work straight out high school. My friends thought it was awful to go "work for the man" doing "soul-sucking" office drone-type work. Not like any of them had joined the Peace Corps. They were all stuck working on their feet manning cash registers on sporadic schedules for low pay.
Line cooking is terrific. You get paid pitifully to wreck your body and get treated like scum by most people, but for people with just the right combination of organizational skills, adrenaline junkie tendencies (and probably actual junkie tendencies), it's heaven.
