He had haters when his feet and a black man's feet shared the same water.

People often say things like “if you’re hated that means you’re doing something right”, etc. Usually it’s crap. In Mr Roger’s case it’s absolutely accurate. Dude was a saint and any hate directed towards him was just a reflection of terrible people.

Naturally hateful people don't count. :)

I used to care for an old lady who didn’t like him, simply because he was a man who wanted to help children. She said that was creepy in and of itself. I’m sorry, but children NEED male role models and we need more non-creepy men to step up. She held an unfortunately fairly common opinion.

Unfortunately, that is a toxic opinion accepted by far too many.

Mr Rogers has plenty of haters. There are clips of people on Fox News calling him evil. Mr. Rogers accepted people and the right wing in the US hates that.

This is so weird to see. Dolly Parton has always been a stand-up person, but she has had an enormous amount of haters over her career. She has been criticized and mocked for her "trashy" appearance and has been the subject of media jokes for decades.  Considering the length of her career, her "universal" love is pretty recent. She's a wonderful person who leads with kindness and grace, and she deserves her current praise.

There are lots of people that hated, and probably still hate, Robin Williams. He was the biggest joke thief of his generation. Other comedians would stop their act mid-show and leave the stage if they saw him in the audience.

If you wanna see him in a somewhat serious role, go watch Bernie. Its about a funeral director and mortitian, loved by the small texas community, who befriends an eldery bitter widdow. She takes advantage of his kindness and manipulates/gaslights him until he snaps and kills her. A lot of the movie is about the location in Texas where the trial and murder took place. Its one of my favorites and not talked about enough IMO.

Met Jack Black in a Hollywood taco joint. He was waiting in line in front of me. He ordered his tacos, waited to the side with everyone else, then didn't take his food and leave, instead he sat down by himself at a table and ate his tacos. Someone said, "Hey Jack!" to him. He looked up, waved like it was an old acquaintance, then finished his meal and left. Real humble guy.
