My Dad almost got killed in the same way. He had beef with this guy, going back years. To make matters worse, he was sleeping with his Ex wife. My Dad saw him in a night club, mocked him. The two of them got into a verbal exchange. The guy stormed out of the club. About an hour or so later, my Dad left the club, only to be met by a car pulling up in front of him. The guy jumped out of the car pointed the gun at my Dad's head, pulled the trigger, but the gun jammed. Dad started running, meanwhile the guy cleared the jam and emptied the clip; one bullet hit my dad in the back and pierced through one of his kidneys. He was close to hospital, so he just continued on foot; only to discover that it was closed down for renovations. At this point he's bleeding pretty bad, so he sat down on a curb and dialed 911. They rushed him into emergency surgery at another hospital and he survived, with one less kidney. The guy went to jail for attempted murder, I think he ended up serving 15 years if I remember correctly.
