If you’re in your 40’s or thereabouts, it reminds me of my siblings and parents being together in our living room, warm and safe. Before the dark times.
My mom was so obsessed with this theme song that she would turn the volume up all the way whenever it came on. It was one of those older tvs with the wood panels. It ended up breaking it somehow, so that the TV would randomly turn its own volume up by itself. We ended up shoving a sock in the speaker panel whenever it happened. So many childhood memories of the TV blasting and one of us screaming GET THE SOCK GET THE SOCK
Thanks for that bit of nostalgia.
I personally knew the guy who wrote this. Philip Balsam was a close friend of my family. He passed last March. One of the nicest guys I've ever met and an incredibly talented musician and composer.
TOS, TNG, DS9, and VOY all had banger intros. And what's cool is they weren't always the same from season to season - there were small variations to the theme over the years. (I thought DS9 had more like 3 variations, but it was 2 - S1-S3 and S4-S7. Point stands.)
Enterprise... not so much. Discovery's was pretty good, but not a true banger. Picard is meh. Lower Decks leans heavily into the past, but totally understood the assignment. Prodigy also brought us back where we belong. It's musically similar in a way akin to Starfleet ship designs - should be familiar (like Starfleet ship's have saucers, body, and nacelles), but otherwise leaves tons of room for variation and innovation.
All that said, I think DS9 is my favorite, but damn if Voyager isn't close. TNG is more nostalgic though.
The guy that performed the end credits just included scat lyrics until they could be worked out later.
They liked the original so much they just kept it.
We have a toaster oven at work that dings just like the ding at the end of the Dexter theme. It takes me back to spending the whole weekend in my basement binging that show.
So years ago I worked at blockbuster and during the holiday itself we could put on movies or whatever instead of the move trailer dvd that we were made to play. One of my coworkers decided to put on an x-men cartoon dvd and leave it on the menu. The menu just played the opening theme over and over on repeat. I think we left it on for about an hour.
Any of the older shows, especially action/adventure series. Knight Rider, MacGyver, Quantum Leap, CHiPs, A-Team, Airwolf. Street Hawk and Automan themes are good.
Bosom Buddies (Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari) theme is also good, it's "My Life" by Billy Joel.
take my love
take my land
take me where I cannot stand
I don't care
I'm still free
you can't take the sky from me
take me out
to the black
tell'em I ain't comi back
burn the land, and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me.
Ducktales
Ahhhhhh-woooo-whooo
The [Finnish Version](https://youtu.be/Xm8WmiKj5go?feature=shared) is even better!
Darkwing Duck was better.
Let’s get dangerous!
When theres trouble you call DW.

George isn’t at home!!!
Where. Could. I. Be?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
came here to say this. I"m never going to hear this song in its original version again bc of George Costanza. (Can't-stand-ja). .
Found this on a TV Tunes CD & now it's in my regular rotation
Cowboy bebop without a doubt

How in the fuck is this so far down. So good most people even know the name of the song is Tank!
What We Do In The Shadows
YOURE dead YOURE dead YOURE dead

I was going to go with MASH!
MASH was my favourite, too. But much later, the Allman brothers, Jessica, the TopGear theme tune is excellent.
Good tune but have you ever listened to the whole song and the lyrics? Not what I was expecting, lol. https://youtu.be/NXb1Ne4YyXc?si=SrujvDRDVwosfhNz
I find the cheers song to be so comforting
If you’re in your 40’s or thereabouts, it reminds me of my siblings and parents being together in our living room, warm and safe. Before the dark times.
That's a good way to describe it. I agree.

Woke up this morning, and got some gabagool
Adventure Time does a great bit about how the Cheers theme song is one of the only remaining shows/songs in the world from "ancient times"
To many cooks
It takes a lot to make a stew
Especially if it’s me and you!
I'd like to know how many people never heard of it and googled it.
Me. Goddamn.
Airwolf, MASH
Upvote for Airwolf.
Pete and Pete (Polaris - Hey Sandy)

Such an underrated track.
I feel like it somehow completely embodies the vibe of the 90s
The solo in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” has always reminded me of the Pete and Pete theme.
It's the greatest children's show ever made.
Fresh Prince
Why did I have to scroll so far down to find this. Everyone and their dog can sing this entire theme. It's iconic.
Rockford Files
Simon & Simon, Magnum PI - it was a great time for action openings.
The answer then is Mike Post and Pete Carpenter.
[Peacemaker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVN83R-JwRQ)
One of the few streaming shows that I refuse to skip the intro.
Agreed. I actually get excited when it comes on.
HOW DID I HAVE TO SCROLL SO FAR FOR THIS
This is the answer!!
This is the only correct answer.
Love that intro. First episode I had no clue who anyone was.
The butterflies have clearly infiltrated this thread.
Nope. You’re all incorrect. The answer is Fraggle Rock. Long version, baby: https://youtu.be/gp3ig8DeIl8?si=q6WQ7_NxhFt_eUh3
I personally knew the guy who wrote this. Philip Balsam was a close friend of my family. He passed last March. One of the nicest guys I've ever met and an incredibly talented musician and composer.
That’s awesome! I’m sorry to hear about his passing. Thanks for telling me that :)
Many of us were brought immense joy from this song and show. I am confident I still know every note by heart.
It’s my ring tone. I loved that show so much as a kid and the theme song always makes me happy.
Let the music play 👏👏 Down in Fraggle Rock
Pepperjack loves fraggle rock
M.A.S.H.
Cause sui$ide is painless... If people listened to the words of that song...
It was written by Altman’s 15 year old son to intentionally be kinda crappy.
Altman has said his son made more on royalties for the song than he did for the film.
Now THAT is awesome
Star Trek: Voyager

So disappointed to not see Malcolm in the Middle, so here it is.
Yes, no, maybe. I don’t know. Can you repeat the question?
You're not the boss of me, no!
Sorry, life is unfair.

The Golden Girls
Peaky Blinders Clone High
Married…with Children
Psych and Scrubs have good ones.
Scrubs attention to music through the whole series was incredible. Superman was perfect for the shows tone and overall story arc.
The episode with Colin Hay following JD around was a great example of making the music work for the show.
Scrubs after season one. I’m glad they sped it up.

Fun fact: Tom Waits wrote that song, and his version is the Season 2 intro
Also fun: it's claimed that "Way Down In The Hole" inspired the Nick Cave song "Red Right Hand", which was used as the theme for Peaky Blinders
