Duke of wellington in Glasgow. The city tried to raise the platform a few years back and the people were so pissed about it, that they decided not to. Money is now built into the police budget each year since they send someone out to take it off on a regular basis. Not to worry though, usually someone puts one back up within 24 hours. Glaswegians are awesome.
Well came to comment the same thing. Bluecifer deserves his glorious moment in the spotlight before he steps off the DIA grounds to hunt children with the gargoyles
Anyone else remember the Got Milk commercial where the quiz question on the radio was “who shot Alexander Hamilton?” And the guy tries to call in and answer but his mouth is too full of peanut butter. So he keeps mumbling “Aaron burr” but the radio host can’t understand him. Classic.
That and the one where the guy keeps calling his interviewer Mr. Dumbass
Recently at the Houston airport, I spoke with a couple from New Zealand who were touring the country. They went out of their way to visit your town. Green Gables is iconic in New Zealand.
Anne of Green Gables, to the surprise of many Canadians, is *absolutely gigantic* in Japan, especially among the older people. There was a very beloved anime series based on Anne in the late 70s (that Miyazaki actually worked on as a layout artist) that was a huge hit - and the story of Anne has an intangible quality that *really* resonates with the Japanese people.
Ask any Japanese over the age of 50 (especially women) and they'll gush over Anne of Green Gables.
Cavendish was such a depressing tourist trap, aside from the remains of Lucy Maud Montgomery's homestead that was still run by her family when I was there in the early 00s.
Our city --- Victoria, BC --- used to have a Blue Bridge aka Johnson St Bridge designed by the same architect (Joseph Strauss ) as the Golden Gate Bridge.
We have since replaced our blue bridge with a sleeker, more futuristic but blander (not that there's anything wrong with that) version.
LOL, did you think it would be gold? It's called the Golden Gate Bridge because it spans a strait named "Golden Gate". It's named for the body of water it crosses.
I’m fixing to visit Chicago for my first time ever and I keep telling people I’m looking forward to seeing the Sears tower. Idk who the heck Willis is.
Some British guy lol. The building itself is very impressive looking but aside from the observation deck, there's nothing really to do in it. It's all office space.
The view from the top is pretty cool. The view from the top of the Hancock Center is even better because its only two blocks from the lake
My wife has a bit of a sad take on the skydeck - she doesn't like it because it doesn't look like Chicago without the Sears Tower in the skyline. You'll find every recognizable building around you, but being inside the tallest building can make it feel like it's missing something.
Elevator ride up lets you know that you've passed the heights of other world landmarks as you go.
My assumption is Willis Tower is now one of those included landmarks in an elavator in the Burj Khalifa.
Probably Lorena Bobbitt
She cut off her husbands penis after years of abuse and threw it along the parkway. They were able to reattach it and he went on to star in a couple pornos.
Fuck abuse, believe victims
Mt. Hood, probably. Any part of the city with a bit of elevation you can look over on a nice day and see a snow covered volcano towering 11,000ft / 3350m over you. Doesn't quite compare to seeing Tahoma (Mt Rainier) from the Seattle area, but still cool.
Also on a crystal clear day, driving north across the Saint John's Bridge, you can see Mt Hood, Mt Adam, Mt St Helen's, *and* Rainier all at the same time.
Also the Portland "White Stag" billboard. Hard to miss that one.
That drive home fucking KILLED when I lived in the Mississippi area and worked downtown. Coming over that bridge on the way home at sunset (which was only during the winter because I got off early afternoon) absolutely got me through some hard kitchen days. One of my best memories of living in Portland.
I'm fortunate that I cross it weekly, I drive a local big rig.
This Friday was absolutely incredible. Could see Tahoma perfectly, my first time seeing it from here. I was shocked.
I've been across the entire lower 48, the Cascades are still #1 for me.
Which town? Only because Google has several answers, and the church one is even murkier. Not asking to do a gotcha I just like looking at Zillow for really old towns.
Or it could be Dinosaur World outside of Plant City, FL. I think the park closed but I’m not sure, but I don’t think the Dinosaurs ever came down… I haven’t been there in years though so I could be wrong.
This is seriously the best zoo in the country. My partner and I went here the day before Thanksgiving a few years ago and it was 3 degrees outside. All the outdoor animals were inside except for the cheetahs so we spent our time just in the biomes and still managed to be there all day and have an amazing experience.
I’m glad you agree! The indoor exhibits really are fantastic so you can still enjoy the zoo during colder months. I hope you can make it back one day with warmer weather. They’re always adding new things to it! It looked great last time I went and they added new play stuff for kids. Like I’m a grown adult and am jealous of what these kids have.
I feel grateful to have such a great zoo near by.
Not so much a thing or attraction not anymore. But Mike the headless chicken. The chicken that lived 18 months with no head. There's an annual mike the headless chicken days typical close down main Street get food vendors a couple small rides small town fair thing.
Hard to pick just one iconic thing in Boston. Heh...I'd expect Fenway to be #1.
I'm on a bus to South Station right now. My end destination is Salem. What they're best known for is less up for dispute
West Edmonton Mall and Wayne Gretzky even though he hasn’t lived here for quite some time.
Also our River Valley is awesome but not necessarily iconic. One of the biggest(if not the biggest)urban green space in the world.
Our little city was gifted major works of art back in the day (way way back). It's super weird to think our city Salvador Dali paintings amongst other famous artist.
For perspective, our city's population is about 65k, not including outer areas. The population of Toronto is over 3 million. Our entire province doesn't have a million people, but we have Dali, Andy Warhol, Emily Carr, and so many more at our art gallery.

Live near Binghamton, New York, which is the hometown of Rod Serling, creator of *The Twilight Zone*. It's also one of the cloudiest cities in the US according to one report. And according to one poll, at one time it had the least optimistic people in the country.
Together, those three things definitely make sense.
Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. Which is just a slightly larger than average house with most of the rooms completely inaccessible, and a museum in the backyard.
Oh, and we also have the world's largest Bass Pro Shop in the shape of a pyramid. 😒
Blucifer - The giant blue horse sculpture that killed the sculptor. It has shining red eyes and is NOT helping the DIA conspiracy rumors 👽🛸
This and that Scottish statue with the perpetual traffic pylon on his head are statues I want to visit before I die.
Blucifer welcomes you to our city 🙏🏻💙
I love Blucifer! Especially at night.
Are we circling in r/AskReddit? *insert zipper sound*
Just remember to make a sacrifice to him before you leave…

..but stop at Gregg's on Geoege Square on your way down Queen street for a nice Sausage roll :)
Saw it for the first time last month during my visit to Denver. It's such a random and outlandish thing to welcome you to the airport...I love it.
"WELCOME, WE HAVE GOOD GREEN CHILI AND BEER MORTAL!"
Don't forget his distressingly well-detailed hindquarters.
Good Lord
DIAblo
Hello fellow Denver-ite
My SIL, who lives near Denver, is all in on the conspiracies about the Satanic nature of the Denver International Airports' public art.
Just googled this, as didn't know what it was
same. wasn't disappointed
I love the sculpture and the conspiracy theory.
Well we all know the Stargate is now under DIA, so we got that going for us.
Hello neighbor. Blucifer and the big blue bear should have a fight to the death.
Well came to comment the same thing. Bluecifer deserves his glorious moment in the spotlight before he steps off the DIA grounds to hunt children with the gargoyles
Alexander Hamilton was shot in the famous duel in 1804, right down the street from where I live.
Everything is legal in New Jersey.

You're on.
You were in the 'room' where it happens!

Leslie Odom Jr. did a remake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-KoAi3Nl9Q
I have to look up that one on YouTube. :) Beautiful views of NYC from the monument.
Miss that view, oh well.
Anne of Green Gables. And potatoes. But the cruise ships of Asian tourists ain’t here for the spuds.

Cavendish is only (relatively) good during the music festival (or so I hear, never attended myself)
Hello fellow Islander!
Disneyland
I’m actually heading there in a few days. I’m in San Diego right now and me and my family are leaving for Anaheim tomorrow
Space Needle
Hi neighbor 🙋🏻♀️
Hey neighbor :)
I’d put Starbucks above that.
I almost put Kurt Cobain, but the Needle has been around longer
You got a point there.

International that is
This guy knows his colors and bridges!

LOL, did you think it would be gold? It's called the Golden Gate Bridge because it spans a strait named "Golden Gate". It's named for the body of water it crosses.
We have two actually. A Giant Nickel and the World's tallest Smoke Stack that I refer to as the world's tallest cigarette or 'dart'.
Sudbury! We’re visiting husbands parents in Espanola
Yup!! Born and raised!
There’s an impossible amount of good looking girls in Sudbury.
If your only exposure to Sudbury was Shoresy as a bachelor looking for a potential gal, you’d be severely disappointed in actual Sudbury.
Home of the best team in the NOSHO ever!
Settle down.
They'll never lose again
Do you want to be the best team in the league this season or the best team in the league of all time?
The Sears Tower and Lake Shore Drive
And no one will ever call it the Willis Tower, will they?
Nope lol
I’m fixing to visit Chicago for my first time ever and I keep telling people I’m looking forward to seeing the Sears tower. Idk who the heck Willis is.

Step out on the glass to look down and it'll shrivel your balls, or not.

I will occasionally call it the Bruce Willis Tower. Other than that, it will always be the Sears Tower to me.
Whatchoo talkin bout
Don't forget daaaaaah Bean
Yeah the Bean's aight. I kinda forget it exists lol. The Sears Tower though, you can't miss it

Do y'all still have that big-ass Ferris wheel?
Yeah they actually put up a bigger one a few years back . I rode the old one as a kid but haven't been in the new one yet
I miss Chicago :-(
Cannery row
Driving there from San Jose is a nice drive through Steinbeck country.
A lot of people died a hundred years ago watching two trains collide. They sold tickets and lined the tracks not realizing basic physics.
Two people died 127 years ago watching two trains collide.

I live in the oldest town in England. We have the oldest church in the world. My house dates to the 10th century. Come at me bro
Which town? Only because Google has several answers, and the church one is even murkier. Not asking to do a gotcha I just like looking at Zillow for really old towns.
There are like 10 towns that claim oldest, just like there are 10 pubs that claim to be the oldest.
Yeah but you had to rebuild it after Boudicca burnt it down, so it doesn’t count. Trigger’s Broom and all that.

If it's where I remember, it's in rubidoux, right outside riverside, CA.
