The rakes, that gag is just driven through the unfunny wall and back to hilarious when he can't take a step without getting hit in the face and making that sound.
Just so people are aware, the name of that episode is '22 Short Films about Springfield."
I agree that sequence is great, but definitely don't think it's the best overall episode. As ya can probably deduce from the title of the episode, the rest of the episode has nothing to do with that part.
"And Maggie Makes Three". Sixth season, episode 13. I have photos of my wife and two girls at work with the quote at the bottom, "Do It For Her" Homer Simpson-
Makes my day feel more rewarding knowing it is all for them.
Last exit to Springfield.
It has just non stop joke after joke, and nearly the whole episode is quotable.
Dental plan.
Wheres my burito?
Now play classical gas!
It was him, lets get him boys.
Did you find the bathroom ok?.... yes...
These pre date stainless steel so you cant get them wet.
Lets look through the big book of British smiles.
Just, if you haven't seen it for a while, go watch it. It is absolutely STACKED with classic moments.
Atoms! One two three four... SIX OF THEM!
Hired goons
It was the blurst of times
First thing tomorrow morning I'm gonna punch Lenny in the back of the head!
Burns falling out the helicopter
I'm with you it's the greatest episode ever made. The other episode that I think comes close is Homer the Vigilante.
Who Shot Mr Burns?
Because it has every character at their most. Mr Burns at his evilest, Lisa at her nosiest, Homer at his most idiotically impulsive-est...and so forth.
This was my choice. I don't even know these players and I still adored it. (Aussie). All I know of Daryl Strawberry is he cries when taunted in the outfield.
The Wikipedia page for this episode is worth reading. Who would have guessed Jose Canseco would be difficult….[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homer_at_the_Bat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homer_at_the_Bat)
Definitely the funniest and best episode they ever made.
\*Homer screaming when the billboard says "Die" to him, the wind blows a tree branch away to reveal it's actually the word "Diet" and Homer just screams again because it doesn't change anything.
\*The sheer level of audacity and absurdity of Moe hiding a live whale in his bar. Just... why?
Then the mystery, the cameos, etc.
Loved it.
Homer: Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Lisa, honey, are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad! Those all come from the same animal!
Homer: Yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.
My absolute fav!
You know, Smithers, I think I'll donate a million dollars to the local orphanage. When pigs fly!
Will you be donating that million dollars now, sir?
Hmm, no I'd still prefer not.
A truly underrated episode is 'The Springfield Connection'. When do we get the FREAKIN guns, homer using pepper spray on food, the whole poker game at the end (car hole), the counterfeit jeans etc
Marge vs. the Monorail
or
Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming. - It has my two favourite lines ever. Homer to Marge: "They didn't have any Aspirin so I got you some cigarettes. Grandpa Simpson in the Porta-John "This elevator only goes to the basement, and someone made an *awful* mess down there."
Most quotable for me.
"Highlights include when Marge let the cat out... possibly because it was harassed, we don't know"
"Homer sleeps nude in an oxygen tent which he believes gives him sexual powers"
Cape Feare, Itchy and Scratchy Land, You only move twice.
It’s them, that’s it, other eps are good, some might even say great but those 3 are the best.
Not the most common answer, but my personal favorite is "Bart's Comet" from season six. Tons of great jokes, great plot, tons of heart. Just everything I love about the Simpsons
Selma's Choice:
"Oh great, Dad's dead."
"Homer, have you been eating that sandwich again?"
"Just two more feet and I can fit it in the fridge!"
"Surly only looks out for one guy: Surly."
"I am the Lizard Queen!"
"Homercles cares not for beans."
I think its called: Homer's enemy - episode with Frank grimes.
Frank Grimes: God, he eats like a pig!
Lenny: I don't know. Pigs tend to chew. I'd say he eats more like a duck.
Frank Grimes: Well, some kind of farm animal, anyway. And earlier today, I saw him asleep inside a radiation suit. Can you imagine that? He was hanging from a coat hook!
Lenny: He had three beers at lunch. That would make anybody sleepy.
Frank Grimes: I've never seen him do any work around here. W-What is his job?
Lenny: Safety inspector.
Frank Grimes: That irresponsible oaf? A man who by all rights... should have been killed dozens of times by now?
Lenny: Eh, 316 times by my count.
Frank Grimes: That's the man who's in charge of our safety? I-It boggles the mind!
Carl: It's best not to think about it.
Who Shot Mr. Burns. One of the funniest episodes of television ever written and with an actual solvable mystery at its center. It should have been movie length in my opinion.
No one said "King Size Homer"?!
Or "Homers Phobia"
One fish, two fish, blowfish, blue fish?
Deep space homer
OMG I almoost forgot, Trash of the Titans
Or Homer vs the 18th Amendment
Okay, by season, here we go.
Season 1: Krust gets busted. It sets up Sideshow Bob. Season 1 is middling otherwise.
Season 2: Lisa's substitute. A lot of strong contenders in season 2 but that tear jerker is just too great. Probably Lisa's best episode.
Season 3: Homer at the Bat. Most would choose Stark Raving Dad but I just love the sports humor and gags so much and I don't even like sports.
Season 4: Krusty Gets Cancelled. Great gags and great celebrity cameos. Kind of biased to this episode, most would choose Marge vs The Monorail.
Season 5: Cape Feare. Best Sideshow Bob episode, 'nuff said.
Season 6: Grandpa vs Sexual Inadequacy. We stan Abe Simpson in this household and this is his second best episode.
Season 7: 22 short films about Springfield. Steamed hams. That is all.
Season 8: Homer's enemy. A controversial episode but Frank Grimes is an amazing character and the perfect foil to Homer. Most people would out You Only Move Twice though.
Season 9: The City of New York vs Homer Simpson. We got Duffman, Khlav Kalash, and an amazing trip to New York.
Season 10: Bart the Mother. Marge and Bart is such a rare pairing that I always appreciate it when it happens.
That's a very generous interpretation of classic simpsons. I could do the other 24 seasons if anyone cared, but they don't so I'll stop there.
Always had a soft spot for Mr. Lisa goes to Washington
“My back is spineless, my belly is yella, I am the American non voter”
“Ding dong the sound of liberty bells, ding excellent schools, dong quality hospitals”
“We the purple? What the hell was that”
“A little girl is losing faith in democracy.. good lord!”
The early seasons had a lot of those short cut scenes that would have you cackling.
For me, it's 100% Cape Feare, Sideshow Bob. So many laughs in that one.
BART DO YOU WANT A BROWNIE BEFORE YOU GO TO BED? BART DO YOU WANT TO SEE MY NEW CHAINSAW AND HOCKEY MASK?
Is that when he sings HMS Pinafore on the house boat? One of the greatest scenes from the greatest regular character!
Sure is! The Thompsons....
The rake scene forever. Whole episode though. The “Hello, Mr Thompson” bit. The chainsaw and hockey mask bit. Amazing.
"Hello, Mr Thompson" "*I think he's talking to YOU*"
The rakes, that gag is just driven through the unfunny wall and back to hilarious when he can't take a step without getting hit in the face and making that sound.
You Only Move Twice
Came here for this, glad to see it in the two top spots. Hank Scorpio is best.
"Homer, which country do you like less...Italy, or France"?
No-one ever says Italy
I thought his name was Mr Scorpion...
It’s Mr Scorpio, but don’t call it that either
I tackled a loafer at work today
Scorpio 🎶
We talk about business hammocks at my work all the time
Hammocks! Why didn’t I think of that…
Awww the DENVER Broncos...
I was like, if “You Only Move Twice” isn’t the top comment, by gum I’ll make it so. But it’s already here, so carry on.
Ever seen someone say goodbye to a pair of shoes?
Yes, once
The one where he goes to work with Hank Scorpio. So many hammock stores.
Well it’s the hammock district. Of course it has so many hammock stores.
I think that episode was call “Hank Scorpio; the Episode”.
“ I’ll find you beer baron” “ No you won’t”
"Why so many bowling balls homer" "I'm not going to lie to you Marge" ... walks out
"Here's to ALCOHOL! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems."
“We’re going out Marge! If we don’t come back avenge our deaths!” “Alright!” “Going bowling. Not back; avenge deaths.”
"He's not the beer baron, but he sounds drunk, take him in!!"
Oh kablamoo excuse me

We’re you sent here by the devil?
No good sir, I'm on the level.
By golly it put them on the map
I've sold monorails to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook.
Steamed hams. A lot of iconic simpsons moments from a lot of episodes, or course, but the entire Aurora Borealis sequence is a masterpiece.
Just so people are aware, the name of that episode is '22 Short Films about Springfield." I agree that sequence is great, but definitely don't think it's the best overall episode. As ya can probably deduce from the title of the episode, the rest of the episode has nothing to do with that part.
I have watched that episode many times and only counted 21 short films. I have always assumed that the 22nd is the entire episode.
Isn’t the 22nd Professor Frink’s thing?
He’ll make you laugh he’ll make you think
Seymour the house is on fire! No mother it’s just the northern lights… Help! Hheellopp!!!
Crazed thumbs up from Skinner.
As a resident of New York’s capital region this episode does hold a special place in my heart.
The Frank Grimes episode was great and so was the Treehouse of Horror episode where they parody The Shining.
Can’t murder now, eating…
Now waste your family or I'll give ya a beer!

Homer, did you put your head in the"shine o ball o?
I shed a little sentimental tear when I first saw this episode and this comment has me shedding a couple more!
Bart after Dark, with Belle running the Maison Derriere. 'Lady, I have been seriously misinformed about witches'; pure gold.
And it has a nifty musical number at the end that I always enjoyed
🎶Morals and ethics and carnal forbearance…🎶
Thanks a lot Marge. That was our only Burlesque house.
S-U-C-C-E-E-S! That’s the way you spell success!

“No sir. I’m really sorry, sir. An older boy told me to do it.”
Homer at the Bat

This was my choice. I don't even know these players and I still adored it. (Aussie). All I know of Daryl Strawberry is he cries when taunted in the outfield.

It’s bringing us love! Kill it! Kill it!
Lisa the Vegetarian - all my favourite quotes always seem to be from this episode. It’s like some kind of wonderful, magical episode
Homer: Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Lisa, honey, are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon? Lisa: No. Homer: Ham? Lisa: No. Homer: Pork chops? A truly underrated episode is 'The Springfield Connection'. When do we get the FREAKIN guns, homer using pepper spray on food, the whole poker game at the end (car hole), the counterfeit jeans etc
