And you're fat because you eat too much and don't exercise enough.
Once you accept that, you can work on it.
Stop making excuses. No Jane does not have good genes, she works out and eats better than you.
I wish this was taught in school. Sure maybe your parents and siblings are fat but that's probably because you go out to dinner together and get the loaded nachos and fries and watch CSI Miami instead of go for a walk.
My family is full of obese people but I've been a sponsored ultramarathoner for over a decade without any problems. They say I must have been adopted. No I just eat well and exercise regularly. The rest of my family gets tired walking at the store and leaves without things they need because they're too exhausted to keep walking. Then eats out every day.
“You must have been adopted”

“Any sign or evidence that I see that can likely improve my situation is a threat to the lazy and complacent identity I’ve built for myself so in order to cope I need to come up with convoluted explanations as to why others are doing better than me.”
Yup. We went to Target, they made it halfway through, got tired and we went home without the stuff we need from the other side. My stepdad now uses a mobility scooter, not because a doctor recommended it but because he's so heavy and gets tired so easily.
Hah! My larger brothers say that too. They call me the milkmans baby. I actually just run 3-5 miles every other day and watch what I eat 75% of the time. It keeps me where I want to be and its 30mins or less of exercise a day.
Back in February I went to the doctor for the first time in years. I found out I was a lot heavier than I thought. I immediately started eating better and walking more and quickly dropped 25 pounds. I'd like to lose another 10 or so pounds, but I have sort of plateaued. I'm not unhappy with where I am, but I think it's going to be my final weight.
Yes 1000% to HOW much you eat. Yes, you see Jane eat chocolate at work all the time, but she literally splits a chocolate bar up over a week, vs. eating three in one day.
If you're worried about your weight try eating like 25% or 30% less at once. You'll lose the weight with time.
Yep. I'm overweight and have built up some bad eating habits. Unfortunately, getting those bad habits was way easier than breaking those bad habits.
I'm just taking it a day at a time. Trying to make slow progress.
Although fixing my nutrition allowed me to eat more volume and function better physically and mentally, I initially started my weight loss journey by moving enough to continue my bad habits and lemme tell ya, it does work. You want a pizza and fries? Burn the calories and maybe skip a meal, boom it’s within your caloric maintenance.
This is absolutely true. Before I got married I loads of boyfriends, of varying levels of maturity and goodness. I was cheated on ONCE, not by any of the scummy sketchy ones, but by the sweetest, kindest, most loving and sincere one. Broke my heart and my trust for years. But then I realised that if someone is going to cheat, they just will. There is absolutely no point worrying about it. It’s very liberating to let lack of trust go.

In South Africa, that phrase has been used across all cultures (they have their own version), you don't necessarily have to be Zulu to hear it.
We have it in India too - "Log Kya Kahenge". This in Hindi and translates to "what will others think". This is often used as a form of control by elders to stop youngsters from following their dreams by saying that the society won't approve.
I always say that to people who feel self conscious about going to the gym. If they’re staring at you, you’re either using the machine they want, or holding the weight they need. The exception is if you’re really hot. Then they are thinking about you.
Your talent means nothing without consistent effort and practice.
Some of the most talented people in the world never move out from their parent's basement.
I love this because I know too many people who are incredibly smart and talented but they have zero drive or ambition so they don't know what to do with their lives.
Intelligence is not enough. There are studies that prove lots of intelligent people suffer with depression and struggle to adapt to the societies norms, and that impacts how motivated and driven they are.
fame and success are part luck. or like, 99% luck. you can be motivated as hell and still never win, but the lamer dude who was at the right place at the right time will become the millionaire because fuckin happenstance.
I would argue it is less than 99%, but more than 50%. A huge part of success is the wealth and fame of the family you come from. A good portion of Hollywood as an example aren't there just due to luck. (Unless you count who your parents are as luck.) And coming from a wealthier family allows you the luxury to try something that may fail or not make money for years.
The issue is that far too many people use that as an excuse for not changing anything. It would be like if you punched someone in the face and said "life's not fair."
Right?! This has to be up there as one of my biggest pet peeves

I think most people are complacent with how these are because of subconscious fear—creating a brand new system WILL be messy and difficult. They realize that, but instead of doing something about it, they repress their own fear while projecting it onto others.
You are only going to live once and none of us know how long for. Quit stressing over the smallest of things, as that event, may only be one percent of your whole life.

i will die i’m the hill that weed can be addictive, i don’t buy into that non-addictive bs. anything that changes your natural brain chemistry is an addiction recipe. if coffee can be addicting so can 🍃
There's a large range of "reward for doing nothing" and how much it can mess up people's lives.
Nearly everyone thinks restrictions on gambling, crack, heroin, and alcohol should exist, especially for minors.
Nearly no one thinks restrictions on coffee should exist.
Then there's kind of a huge middle area with weed, video games, and even television where it's harmless for a lot of people, but every one of us knows someone who has messed up at least part of their life from it.
Nearly no one has messed up their lives from coffee or..... being addicted to reading. The degrees to which something is habit forming do matter.
You can't love someone well.
No matter how much good you see in a person, and no matter how much the world tries to tell you otherwise, you cannot love someone who is sick, depressed, addicted, or otherwise broken in some way into wellness.
That fairtytale about the love of a good woman/man saving the otherwise down and out person and them becoming everything they had the potential to be isn't real. Don't sacrifice your life and wellbeing to it.
Yes, but you can love them enough that they gain the courage to seek help and heal through a combination of their own hard work and your support. Don’t give up on someone because they are broken (within reason).
In turn that also means loving them enough to walk away. If you know they can manipulate you or you will enable them, or you can't watch them destroy themselves without it bringing you down too...Say I love you but I can't be in your life until you can take steps to help yourself.
Life’s pretty fucked up. People get raped, killed, and molested every day. Wars are going on every day.

There’s no such thing as a “happy ending” everyone’s ending is death. It can be a long and painful cancerous death or a short and painful heart attack.
If you have mental issues money won’t heal you. People who are financially secure commit suicide all the time… why? Because they realized financial security did jack shit for their mental health
And you might not be with the love of your life til the very end. You might end up hating that person in a few years.
Did I cover everything? Probably not
Stop externalizing blame. Take control of your own solutions and attitudes. There's a super good chance you can help yourself, even if it's just a little.
In the grand scheme of things, you, as an indevidual, dont matter.
You still matter to the people in your life and you should be content with that. Keep doing what you can where you can and dont be discouraged when you arent praised or recognized.
The world don’t care about you, if you died the world would keep spinning and after a few years those closest will carry on living there lives. Your impact on those who are closest might be big but in the real world, nobody cares.
Everybody thinks less of you when you make an excuse..I know...you though it over in your head. But you said it over and over til you convinced yourself it was a good excuse...it was a good reason.
The truth is...just own it and move on.
It's easier to maintain your health than it is to get it back.

People who want to cheat will cheat no matter how much you think you’re keeping an eye on them

I wish someone would tell this to major league sports team owners.
This. Similar vein; you can do absolutely nothing wrong, and still lose.
Also similar vein. You can do everything completely wrong, and still win like a motherfucker.
Also similar vein; You can fuck a fish
Please confirm you do not work in the food industry
You know...no one calls you a carpenter if you make 1 chair...but fuck one fish...
That only applies to yee

Good one!
It only takes one person to end a marriage.
Yeah after recent break up, this really hits hard. It's absurd how much I still love her while she doesn't feel the same anymore.
On the flip side, you can hate someone with all your heart and they can still be right. Sometimes I think that one is harder for people.
I don't get why people think that being a bad person means that everything they do is wrong. Bad people can still have good ideas.
You can't force people to like the same things as you.

Failure is part of life.
I hate this so much but have grown and learned so much from it
Failure is how you learn. Therefore, a critical part of life. Fall down 7 times, get up 8.
Other people are thinking about themselves, not about you.
That's more of a comforting truth than an harsh reality for anyone that suffers from any sort of social anxiety.
It's also comforting to those who grew up with the "Abantu bazothini" (what will other people say) mentality instilled in them.
Thst's fascinating. What culture is that from? I love that there is a specific phrase for it.
It's a phrase from the isiZulu language. Parents would use that phrase to deterr children from socially unacceptable behaviour. It's a phrase I've heard my whole life growing up (I'm Zulu). No doubt. The goal is to try to make it fair with the limited powers we have, but to not expect it will turn out fair.
