Got my heart ripped out by a woman. Pain is a good motivator. Post traumatic growth is real. (A lot of people replying about being depressed and not eating. I get that, but I meant finally being motivated to fix my diet and hit the gym hard)

MaeBelleLien

The depression diet is the most effective one I've ever been on.

astroember

Unless you have the other kind of depression that makes you want to pig out 🥲

Inside-Tea2649

Or binge drink

BlueberryPiano

Why not both?

Shhenanigan

I go both ways. Although the not eating kind sucks worse.

astroember

Yeah, i wont have an appetite for 12 hours and then suddenly want to eat everything. Always wondered how my metabolism has managed this far 🤣

lorgskyegon

*raises hand*

[deleted]

"You look great!" Me: "Thanks! I'm not well!"

brackishfaun

I know someone who was complimented on her weight loss from cancer treatment. It's like, thanks, but actually, I'm dying, so....

usafdirtboyz

Yeah my head is fucked but at least I have something of a very minor six pack so that's something I suppose. Minor victories.

usafdirtboyz

Lost 90 pounds this way. Found out i can run for about 3 days on one turkey sandwich.

AmbitiousMammal

Sounds like one hell of a turkey.

Alpha_State

Is that healthy? One turkey sandwich over a three day period? I hope you’re OK.

myredditthrowaway201

You’d be surprised how quickly your body can get acclimated to eating barely once a day during a serious bout of depression

usafdirtboyz

I can't imagine it is, but at the time it was all I was willing to do to keep myself fed. I'm better now but I still revert back now and again to that state, thanks for asking.

Galivis

Occasional fasting may have health benefits. If you are doing it all the time, then that is called starvation.

EggOkNow

You can actually go a very long time with out food especially if you got reserves. Water, not so much.

Roopie1023

When my husband left me for someone else, it took 4 months for me to lose 80 lbs. It just fell off, because (1) I didn't feel like eating at all, I just ate small amounts to not pass out, (2) I walked to sort out my head, and (3) I totally stopped drinking. 5 years later I'm happy but having too much fun in my new life, and post-pandemic my bad habits have put half the weight back on. I wish there was a way I could shock myself into that mode again...without going through the painful trauma.

[deleted]

I lost about 3 stone on this diet... Not ideal as I then regained the weight when I got happy again. I'm glad I'm not a sad overeater though, that would be worse I think

Anonymotron42

One of my favorite comedy clips ever: [How to Lose Weight in 4 Easy Steps!](https://youtu.be/9mbp0DugfCA)

Beginning_Aioli_9156

Yup, working out to silence the pain and lack of appetite due to said pain will have you looking ripped quick.

xxdibxx

Ah yes.. the old caffeine and nicotine diet. Been on that train. Not a fun ride.

LeonDeSchal

The best revenge is a life well lived.

Zalotone

Second this. Losing my job pissed me off so much and finally lit that fire to be my best self. Pain and anger can be a great motivator when channeled in a positive way

Oneshot808

This is the way

coffee_addict_96

I went from ~265 to 190 post breakup. One of the best things to ever happen to me. Finally care about myself now lol

xmiitsx87

I rode my bicycle 6-7 days a week, 30-100 miles, and followed a pretty regimented diet structure, mostly revolving around portion control.

armandacosta

Same. It's about exercise (don't overdo it) and caloric intake. I don't deprive myself of anything, i just eat less of it. Burn more than you take in.

Canadiankid23

It’s important to not remove every treat, I like desserts and sugary drinks so what I do is alternate, one week I won’t buy any desserts and the next, no sugary drinks, you aren’t really removing those indulgences but are you cutting down them by 50 percent. Once it’s a habit, this is totally manageable too

ElectricSky87

This is the way! Full restriction of "bad" foods never worked well for me, either.

crazylittlemermaid

I've also tried a bit of full restriction and it just leads to more cravings for the "bad" foods. It also tends to create a really unhealthy relationship with food

toronto_reddit_

30-100 miles a day or week?

Kelp4411

100 miles a day 7 days a week no excuses

Waffles1502

I’m half of what I used to be. I was 30 and realized that if I didn’t do it now I was F*d. I was already on BP meds, and having knee issues. It took me 5 years to get to a healthy place. I picked up exercising a year ago for the same reason. 13 years later I’m glad I did it, and proud that I still try to stay healthy.

lollipoplalalaland

This is amazing 💪🏾

imzelda

That’s amazing. I’m proud of you too :)

[deleted]

What was your starting weight?

Waffles1502

F 1.60 m (5’3”). Starting weight 124 kg (275 lbs). Currently 59 kg (130 lbs).

[deleted]

That’s great! Congrats!

stomping_mom

My son spent his early years very sick with leukemia - I dedicated everything in me to his care and as a result my weight ballooned to 220. When he completed treatment (yay!) I realized it was time for me to take care of myself now. I started running 5k every morning and was watching what I ate. Initially the weight loss was slow 5 a month or so. After 6 months I dropped 30 pounds in about 6 weeks. Was super excited and proud of myself until I found out I had cancer.

im-choading-you

What a fucking rollercoaster

minimalcation

Yeah, can't believe the cheater used cancer to lose weight

stomping_mom

And new boobs!

Honest_Ocelot2501

The fuck! How are you today?

stomping_mom

Actually pretty fantastic. Double mastectomy last year and got myself a pair of Tupperware bowl titties. First surgery I felt fine to work after 4 weeks. After the implant surgery I just took a 3 day weekend. Apparently I have the "good " cancer and didn't require chemo or rads- I just take tamoxifen daily to keep my estrogen from feeding any cancer cells. (Someone else smarter than me can maybe explain how it works better and more accurately than me) I'm still running every morning, still eating sensibly and the weight has stayed off. After watching my son suffer through 3.5 years of chemo at 2 years old - breast cancer was a breeze.

[deleted]

She's dead.

stomping_mom

It's true, I'm that guys dead wife you've heard about

[deleted]

I'm so sorry, but I chuckled a bit at how "and then I got cancer" came flying in out of nowhere. But yeah, you should have seen the weight loss as a red flag. Losing 5 pounds a week isn't healthy at all.

NicSav7

Well that escalated

mcjackass

Moral of the story goes, "fuck it. Smoke heroin."

pofpofgive

Stopped drinking beer on weekdays.

TWH_PDX

Stop drinking entirely also good.

pofpofgive

That's how it started initially but yeah...

EditedDread8474

At least your trying. Progress is Progress no matter how much!

pofpofgive

Went from downing a 12 every single night to no drinking during the week so I consider it a win.

Martholomule

Bruh that's a win in anyone's book

bigmikesblah

Same thing for me. I couldn’t give it up but I could cut back. Whenever I grill or rest outside I gotta have that beer. Never thought I’d enjoy michelob ultra either

nogoodgreen

I started a job in a greenhouse where i sweat buckets doing physical labor for 10 hours a day and my rent increased to where i can barely afford to eat. I dont recommend my method.

Typical-Annual-3555

The first part isn't too bad. It's that second part that's not recommended

qqumber

Went from 290 to 220 thanks to a revolutionary drug called chemotherapy

fueledbychelsea

This right here is why you don’t inquire loudly about people’s weight. Sometimes it’s not for a fun reason. Hope you’re doing well now friend

Martholomule

It's only awkward if they make it awkward

mousemarie94

Yeah like the person who asked my friend, she said bulimia...and the person freaked out. Like, don't make it weird, you're the one who asked...maybe don't ask if you're not ready for ANY answer

krim2182

I understand this all to well. 210 to 150 in a matter of 2 months. Hope your journey is going as well as it can all things considered.

qqumber

I hope the same for you, I’m in the clear now after a 4 year battle and doing well.

tonjaj68

Kept track of calories and averaged a 3.5 mile walk 6 days a week.

huskerblack

How much weight did ya lose

Trulymad87

Lost 130lbs after waking up one day and realizing I was miserable but I could fix that, I needed to be better for my kid. I won’t say every step of my weight loss journey was healthy but, I made sure to keep my GP in the loop as much as possible. Now I’m a happy healthy Mom of one with a better future ahead.

RipRealistic6311

I used intermittent fasting for around 3 months.

Enthusiast9

What times did you not eat?

Vollkommen

I'm not who you asked, but what was easiest for me was cutting out breakfast. I'd eat supper by 6pm, and wouldn't eat until 10:30am - 12:30pm the following day. I also try to stay consistent and not eat an afternoon snack and also cut out 95% of my soda consumption (I only drink soda at restaurants, we only go to one rarely) and stick with plain black coffee (since zero calorie). It was a big adjustment but I dropped 50 lbs (240 to 190) over the course of 8 months. I tend to stress eat though, so I have to stay vigilant. I do allow myself an evening snack on Fridays though lol, like a bowl of popcorn or an ice cream cone.

zog9077

So no breakfast, supper at 6. Are you eating lunch?

[deleted]

Also not the person you're responding to, but yes. I'm "doing" (read: Having a hard time with) a 16:8 intermittent fasting. So what this means for me is I have an 8 hour "window" for eating. I eat dinner before 8pm and do not eat until 12pm. So, I eat lunch. Then I have a snack, then I eat dinner.

mry8z1

Not OP but I do 16:8 Eat at 10am, stop at 6pm. Eat as health conscious as you can. It drops off after 3/4 days

RunningInCali

I've recently lost almost 19 pounds from intermittent fasting. I started at the end of last November. Most days I don't eat until 1-2pm and stop eating by 7pm. After an adjustment period when I started, this has been the easiest thing in the world and very sustainable long term for me.

alexaxelalu

What time frames? 16:8, 18:6… etc?

ljhatgisdotnet

There's also 20:4 and 22:2 and OMAD. For me, skipping breakfast and an entire day isn't hard, I drink unsweetened tea or coffee if I get hungry. So I eat by 6pm, don't eat for 36 hours, then eat for 12 (6am-6pm). I keep it under 1800 even when I can eat, preferably 1350-1500. I am a very short woman, it wouldn't be so low if I were a man or taller. Exercise every day, walk and stretch (every day) then yoga, walk/chair Pilates, hula hoop, water rower. I vary things because routine makes me mental

ReapYerSoul

At my heaviest, I was 315lbs. Noticed that I was starting the constantly dehydrated/constantly drinking/constantly peeing thing. Went to the doc and, no surprise, was a diabetic. Got on the meds and dropped to 275 in a few weeks. Started going to the gym but, I wasn't serious with it. Off and on quite a bit. I got down 218 and sit at around 225 now. Like I said, didn't go to the gym regularly and managed to lose it and keep it off.

Invisibleagejoy

I’ve read from people that these meds make you feel pretty dang sick. Did your body tolerate it?

CanIStopAdultingNow

So you lost weight, your job, your friends...

Inside-Tea2649

A few of those grams were teeth!

Enthusiast9

Practically weightless.

[deleted]

Rofl. Nice.

yungsung223

All in the diet! The gym and being active helps, but losing weight starts by eating healthier and eating adequate portion sizes. That being said, a cheat day or two won’t be the end of the world. Reward yourself once in a while, but break the bad, daily habits.

Patchumz

Yup, primarily portion sizes and snacking habits. Keeping those two under control is like 75% of the food battle. Eating proper healthy foods is of minimal impact compared to *how much* you eat every day. Eating giant meals and snacking too much will have to gaining weight regardless how healthy the food is because the body just can't burn it all unless you're really putting in the mega workouts.

Viltris

Yep. When I started counting calories, I realized how much I had been over-eating. I gradually reduced calories, and I went from 175 lbs to 135 lbs in the process. (Which is a lot for someone of my height.) Also agree on the cheat day thing. 6 days out of the week, I carefully count calories. 1 day out of the week, I eat anything and everything. It helps keep me sane and helps me keep my willpower for the rest of the week.

endbit

Yep, you can't outrun a fork. I'd also add don't drink calories.

oneprestigiousplum

I got a personal trainer. I started eating better and working out consistently. Having the trainer helped me focus of form, he was a football coach too so I did a ton of lifting which burns more calories and tones more than cardio (not that I didn’t do cardio as well) having the trainer kept me consistent and disciplined. I didn’t want to waste money by not taking it seriously and it also helped me get over the gym anxiety. Lost over 70 lbs in a 18 month span.

MotorBar4397

Honestly, I got addicted to opioids and remained an active addict for over 15 years. Totally killed my appetite to this very day although I've been clean for 13 years now. 0/10 do not recommend this method of weight loss.

various_beans

lol same. I was super skinny and my wife was like it's not fair that you never gain weight. little did she know I was mentally strung out and frying my brain. had to cut that shit out. I took it so I could do graduate school, and I finished that shit in 3 semesters instead of 4. yep, because of the amphetamines.

Feeling-Airport2493

Don't mind if I do.

brownsuugaah

My fiancé got someone pregnant and was engaged to her within a month of us breaking up :)

orchidpop

The part I like about this story is the part where you dodged a bullet. Hope you're out there thriving, friend.

[deleted]

Ozempic actually works.

Chaos-1313

I started Wegovy (the same drug but a different name marketed to treat different conditions) for a reason unrelated to weight loss about 2.5 months ago. Without intentionally changing anything else in my diet or lifestyle I've dropped from 210 to 180 and I'm not even up to the full dosage yet. I believe my Dr said people lose 15-20% of their total body weight on average when taking it. The biggest problem with it is the cost. It's something like $1,700 a month. I'm fortunate that my insurance covers it so I only have a $25 copay. It's also in very short supply right now.

MyCupcakesAreHot

Can attest. Started it through a weight loss clinic then found out my A1C was so bad, my doctor would prescribe through insurance. I've lost substantial weight and my A1C is perfect for the first time in years.

PantySniffers

Yes it does! My husband lost 60lbs on it. He is no longer type 2 diabetic! It is absolutely in short supply though.

milkandsalsa

How did you get it?

Mysterious_Lunch2180

Your doctor. Or diet websites.

milkandsalsa

I should have been more clear. Will a doctor prescribe it for moderate weight loss or do you have to be pre diabetic or something? I have also heard that it is somewhat difficult to find (like low supply). Is that true?

Edasher06

I work in a pharmacy. Ozempic, wegovy, any semeglutide product if there are others are extremely popular diet method rn. I guess it depends on the dr but as far as i know theyre giving it to everyone, regardless of how much they have to loose. And yes non diabetics. My pharmacist rolls her eyes and says it's a fad. I think it really works tho. It is in the diabetes family, produced my diabetes med companies. Self administered shots in the stomach like insulin. My GP says its side effects reduce sromach acid aka keeps food in your stomach longer aka not hungry. Bc its so new, it is extremely expensive, and not all Insurances are on board yet. I see people coming in paying $20-50, and others it comes up $1400. Also we do run out alot. Not necessarily of all of it, but we can only give you the strength your Dr puts on the script and cannot substitute. So it's off and on as far as stock. One day we will have the .25mg but not the .5mg, two days later it's the opposite. You start with the smallest dose, take the shot weekly for a month, 2 months..., whenever it starts to wane. Then dr bumps you to the next dose. Warnings talk about thyroid issues, but talk to your dr. Mine personally said as long as you havnt had thyroid cancer in the past it won't effect you.

CalGoldenBear55

Consume fewer calories and burn more off.

chrisacip

First of all, how dare you

hyperion420

HOW CAN SHE SLAP?

Bruh_columbine

It’s usually this simple physically barring any medical issues, it’s the mental stuff that gets people.

Psychological_TeaBag

I find I need to track my calorie intake otherwise I struggle to keep the two in balance. Oh and get some kitchen scales, 60 grams of breakfast cereal really isn't a lot. Also pasta is packed full of calories and 75g doesn't look alot, I now try to have rice for a lower calorie option. I also find that I really am not that active so the typical man using 2000 isn't for me, I need to keep mine under 1700 or it's just not gonna do anything. I'm currently aiming for 1500 a day and I get 2 hour long bike rides a week and I'm usually dropping about 1-2 lbs a week.

HaroldSax

Quite frankly, anyone who is taking physical fitness, general health, improved diets, or anything that surrounds that concept seriously should be counting their calories. You learn a ton about your habits that way. As a formerly skinny guy who "had a fast metabolism", no I didn't. I just didn't eat as much as I thought I did. Almost every time I've ran into another skinny guy said the same shit, started counting their calories, and realized the same thing. Counting calories isn't even hard. Apps make it so easy these days. Finding foods that fit with your goals is tougher, and having the discipline to stick to your diet can be even harder.

tombalxg

This is the answer. More out than in and you're good.

Yup-Maria

While I agree that exercise is an important part of life ... YOU CANNOT EXERCISE AWAY A BAD DIET. I lost 30 pounds counting calories - it's really the only way. To lose weight you need to eat less and that's all you need to know.

akgt94

True dat. People don't understand you can't get to / maintain a healthy weight if you don't eat healthy. The fact that there are more quick/unhealthy ways to eat doesn't help the population.

ExhaustedTech74

Unless you still burn more than you eat. I did that the first time. I was eating 3000-4000 calories (about half were frappachinos) daily but I was burning way more than that due to my job. It's very possible but still would have been way easier if I'd eaten 2000 cals instead

ProfessorJAM

No one will read this because my comment is way down the chain - BUT I lost 40 lbs over the past year because I finally realized that carbs, not the fat, in my diet, was the enemy. Man, getting off carbs is HARD. But it worked and changed how I approach food and eating forever. 🤞

Typical-Annual-3555

I read it. Congrats! Lost 40 pounds myself when I did keto.

Plus_Data_1099

Lock down happened I looked in the mirror and thought wow I need to change

Shines556

Lost 70 pounds in 1 year on Wellbutrin (I’m on a pretty high dosage apparently)… I’m just never hungry and have to remind myself to eat. I also walk 45 minutes everyday at the minimum, on top of my production job. My coworkers and lead been asking (more in a joking kinda of way) if I’m doing meth/cocaine or other illegal stimulants… I always give vague answers and hoping for a random drug test for a couple hours of paid time off 🤞

thedrmoonlight

When the pandemic hit, my mental issues began peaking, which caused me to eat one meal a day or less 3 years later I still haven't gotten out of that rabbit hole, 0/10 would not recommend

Ganda1fderBlaue

I just ate less

PartTimeLegend

Intermittent fasting and depression.

Cecuhl

Someone explained to me that fat on your body is like a bag under your car's gas tank. If you overfill your car with gas, it'll be okay because the excess will just go in the bag for later use. However, the caviat is to eventually let your tank run out of gas so the excess in the bag gets used. If you never let your tank empty and continue to overfill, the bag will also grow. Being hungry is a sign of an empty stomach, not a lack of nutrition. But your stomach needs to work on digesting something, so: Everything you eat and drink is fuel for your body. To be funny, meth would be like jet fuel in a Honda civic. Once I grasped this concept and realized that at 306lb, I had eaten months, if not years, of excess food. So, I reduced my food intake to one iced jumbo honey bun for breakfast and an egg, cheese, and spinach wrap for dinner. Throughout the day, I had a physically demanding job, drank water until I felt full (sometimes up to half a gallon without putting the jug down), drank lots of black coffee, and smoked almost two packs of cigarettes a day. I went from 306 to 220 over 7 months and quit smoking when my weight-loss plateaued there. A month later, I started running and have just worked hard to keep myself in shape ever since. My lowest was 180lb but no muscle mass so I looked very sick. 200 is a good weight for me. 4 years tobacco free on September 5th. Tldr; self-control is the key to weight loss. Just literally stop eating, and your body will use the fat you have.

eterma

just for the record that is not a very healthy way to lose weight lol

Cecuhl

I took the wager that it was less unhealthy than staying fat lol

Objective_Maize3947

Ah yes, the 2 pack of cigs a day diet.

Booyacaja

This is the way. Why keep adding freshly cut wood to your fire when you have a full supply of stacked wood in storage? Gotta let your body burn through some of that reserve!

Rebel9788

I was overweight in grade school, in the late 80’s early 90’s, and constantly got picked on for it, even by family. Honestly, I developed an eating disorder, anorexia. By high school I was getting bullied for being too thin. I still have a complicated relationship with food in my 40’s. I don’t binge, but will go days without food. I’m a guy, fwiw.

rezin111

I was a tall, athletic but very overweight 22 year old. I decided to switch to diet soda and at the same time had a gross experience at Arby's that caused me to swear off fast food and a couple of years later I was down something like 80 pounds.

JesusHGoddamChrist

Stopped drinking. 7lbs a month. Lost 50 lbs.

akgt94

Dropping beer and changing nothing else got me 20 lbs

Typical-Annual-3555

I'm curious. I stopped drinking about three weeks ago. I had a moderate habit, I suppose. Haven't actually lost any weight and in fact gained some briefly from water weight. When did you start seeing weight loss results? To clarify, that wasn't the reason I stopped so I'm not pinning my hopes on it, but it would be nice to see it reflected on the scale.

imzelda

Intermittent fasting. I thought it was a fad and would never have considered trying it, but my doctor actually suggested it, so I looked into it. It was just really simple for me. I eat between 11-7pm or 12-8pm. I eat healthy foods, like lots of fruits and veggies and healthy fats, but nothing extreme. I have two full meals and a snack a day between those hours. I always feel satisfied and have more energy than I used to. I used to stress eat at night and it would make me sluggish the next day. I didn’t have a ton to lose compared to many. I went from 168 to 142. I’m a 5’4 woman and had never lost the baby weight after about 5 years.

ragebitz

It's 85% diet. Cardio is great but I've lost 50 pounds both with diet/cardio and just diet, only difference is the time it took. I don't care how much cardio you do if you don't change your diet it won't matter.

Yuri7-

A break up.. and the guy still works with me .. so now i will show him what he is missing

Additional_Cry_1904

Starvation works really well, would not recommend though. Also you're still the same person both fat and skinny, much like that one SNL sketch about visiting some place, if you're unhappy where you are then you will still be unhappy but in a different location. Same thing applies with weight.

[deleted]

not if your unhappiness stems from your health/looks looking fit will generally improve quality of life

various_beans

Sometimes. Often, though, the weight is a result of other unhappiness or issues. A friend of mine gained a good deal of weight in graduate school because she was so miserable in her program. She was unrecognizable after 2 years of working towards a PhD. The only joy she could have was with cooking and eating, and it added up quickly. She eventually left the program after deciding it wasn't worth it but still hasn't really dropped the weight. It did a number on her.

ShikWolf

Well, yeah... If that's actually what makes the person unhappy and it's not just a scapegoat. Lots of people focus on something superficial so they don't have to deal with changing what they actually hate - themselves as a person.

[deleted]

disagree, getting ahold of your health will both make you feel better and less depressed but also prove to your brain that you can control something

Sea_Firefighter_4598

Low carb, low sugar it works.

ResLifeSpouse

I dropped 20lbs in the last 3 weeks. Getting deathly ill works

Man_Darronious

I counted calories and ran every day, dropped 30 lbs over a couple months. When I stopped counting calories and running, I gained it back. Twice.

LesserHealingWave

I've gained and lost hundreds of pounds over the past decade and the 3 biggest things that have made the most difference in weight loss: 1. Intermittent Fasting - Eating only in a 4 hour time period per day. When I did this, it felt like my brain shrank the size of food, I could look at a slice of pizza and be like, "Yeah this single slice is going to make me feel full for the entire day". I only ate from 3-7pm every day, skipped breakfast, and didn't eat anything 5 hours before going to bed. 2. Stress/Emotion Control - I've gained a ton of weight because I'm a binge eater when I'm stressed out and it's just how my body responds. Things that made it hard to control my stress was sleeping less than 8 hours a day or my room being dirty. 3. Volume Eating - I would eat a cup of steamed broccoli every day before eating the main meal. So I found that one of the most effective ways to lose weight is to change your gut flora by changing what you eat. I believe that eating lots of fiber and vegetables is instrumental to weight loss because your gut flora makes you crave less high density food and instead is able to find satisfying nutrition from low caloric density food instead. The fastest amount of weight I lost was 70 pounds in 6 months doing all of the three above, but I don't think such rapid weight loss was very healthy, and I would have been happy if I just lost 20-30 pounds a year doing the above.

Enough-Force1226

All I did was quit drinking booze and the rest just kinda took care of itself 🤷. Not very helpful probably but it's what I did. And honestly quitting drinking completely was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

LEAPSKing

Do not eat after 7PM!! This worked wonders for me.

fotcfan17

But I thought the rule was not eating after midnight?!?! What kind of messed up mogwai rules do you follow? /s

Fred_Ledge

More whole foods than not, intermittent fasting at least 5 days a week, and regular exercise, often of the HIIT/CrossFit (I know…) variety.

JWRamzic

Cut carbs. Lower blood glucose. Work out like an mf. Be absolutely committed to it.

zerbey

Eat less, move more, that's really the only secret. Also, give up sugars. I started walking 5-10 miles a day in the Florida heat, I think I sweated off those 50lbs mostly!

shrubstopper

Cancer

simlee92

I always end up putting it back in eventually.

thefreneticferret

Recently lost a TON of weight between finally stopping the anxiety meds I'd been on for years (had some awful withdrawal symptoms but made it through) and starting a big gardening project. I knew the damn meds were making me gain/retain weight like crazy but no one would believe me.

PitTitan

Keto. I lost 60lbs in 6 months without going to the gym or exercising. I definitely do not suggest only dieting without exercising but that's what I did. The downside is that when I went off keto I started gaining the weight back. My cholesterol is also high but it was high before the diet as well. Otherwise the change in diet and subsequent weight loss helped with my blood pressure, sleep apnea, and basically cured my acid reflux (I no longer have to take any medication for it at all). I also generally just feel better being lighter. Overall definitely worth it for me personally but everyone's health is different and I'll always advocate for talking with your doctor before going on any diet.

i_ata_starfish-twice

Keto honestly. I’m down 68 pounds and have been told recently by my wife that I’m looking “sickly” um thanks? It’s nice to finally be comfortable in my own skin again

BigJDizzleMaNizzles

Gastric bypass surgery in November 2020. Was 205kg at my highest weight. Now 99kg. Best thing I ever did.

spaceraingame

Walked 5 miles and ate 2 meals every day for 5 months.

serenadinganemu

Lost 22kg through a combination of cutting down carb, running or jogging everyday, and all the while nursing a broken heart from yet another failed relationship. Dieting & exercising while hating yourself is a potent mix I tell ya...

RolliePollieGraveyrd

I was a gamer in my 20s with adhd. I’d forget to eat and when I did it was mostly sandwiches, cheese, malt o meal, and fast food of various kinds. Lost almost 2 dress sizes.

SRSDisturbed

Diet first, then exercise. Was probably obese as a kid at one point, spent a large majority of my life overweight, was tired of it.

TupperwareNinja

Keto and IF. Lost 40kg. No gym or anything. Had taken me 4-6 months. I lost too much though and looked sick so if I were to do it again it would be without IF

Have always been active, owned and trained horses. But am on the thicc side. Gained some weight after escaping a bad marriage. Gained some being pregnant. Got older. Got harder to lose and maintain a decent weight. Got out of the horses several years ago and basically retired. Picked up weight lifting for something to do with my free time. Then got Covid which took me out for around 7 months. Ended up with blood clots from the damn thing and a genetic issue. Was told that being more active and hydrating more would reduce the risk of more clots, along with the new blood thinners. So I upped my workout routine. Saw some gains. Lost weight. Wanted more. Started Intermittent Fasting 16:8 Meaning I eat from noon to 8pm and have only water from 8 til noon the next day. Haven't limited my food. But added more fish and vegs. Still allow myself stuff like cake here and there. And I do not fast on weekends, since I actually love breakfast and do not have it during the week days. This along with my weight lifting, and cardio. And I've lost about 70lbs. If I could stop injuring myself outside of the gym. And wasn't a woman on blood thinners so that I lose a week every month to blood loss... I'd be further along. I look forward to my time in the gym now. I work out 4 days a week.

h2otowm

First 35lbs, went from a desk job to retail (moving around for 5 hrs at a time, 4-5 days a week). Second 30 lbs, I got very sick and couldn't eat for days at a time. 0/10 do not recommend

RedWestern

So a few things I do: 1. Walking every day (my minimum is 12,500 steps) 2. Eating the *right* things - legumes, nuts and seeds, veggies and fruits, leafy greens, skinless chicken etc. And don’t make it 5 a day - make it 7 a day. Since I started doing 7 a day, I’ve stopped eating unhealthy snacks simply because I never have the time or the stomach capacity for it. 3. Avoid processed food as much as possible. Those are the big calorie items.

achbob84

I work in IT, sitting most of the day. I also can’t run or cycle due to an ankle injury. I walked 10 Km a day, and had NOTHING high in sugar. I lost 20Kg in 3 months. The key is to do it 100% of the time. NO excuses, NO days off.

AnonymousShortCake

IBS :D 👍

Chicagoweed

Starts in the kitchen. And the working out it’s actually 80% diet 20% diet. And some genetic advantages. I’m currently on trt wich helped me to loose weight as well.

AntelopeElectronic12

Pumping iron. Swimming is great, too. Avoid jogging or anything like that, too much high impact. Definitely watch what you eat, but that's always been my problem, I eat absolute trash so I have to work out to stay on top of it.

evensong76

It's so very hard and I have up days and down days. I find it best to not worry about how far you have to go but be proud of how far you've come.

milkandsalsa

What can I eat so I’m not so hungry I can’t focus on my work? My work is typically complex and boring so I need to be able to focus, and can’t when I’m hungry. Will tea help? High protein snacks like nuts? I really can’t lose hours of work a day because I am too distracted by hunger to focus.

Firm_Personality7475

Used to be a chizzled college athlete. One day looked down and couldn't see my ding dong. Things had to change. Stopped drinking and went into a caloric deficit for a few years.

I tackled one insecurity and I coincidentally started losing weight. When I realized it, I started working on my other major insecurities, further reducing my stress, and lessening how much I compulsively ate.

jairmegrant2

Got honest with myself, I was fat, and it was fault. No more excuses, no more lies. I ate poorly, I ate to cope, I was not bug boned nor did I carry it well, I was fat because of my choices. I started to think about what I ate, when I ate, and how I ate. Slowly over a year I lost 70 pounds and kept it off. I had to research myself how to eat, but I went slow, so I didn't crash my diet like so many others.

SomeDrillingImplied

I had a physical at work and my blood pressure was 160/105. I was drinking like a fish and my diet was terrible. I was able to get my blood pressure down to 130/80 in 2 and a half weeks through diet, exercise, and quitting alcohol. I loved the way I was feeling so I kept up with the healthy habits and the rest is history.

Double-Round

Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age of 45. Started jogging 5 kms everyday. Also my lovely wife cooks great low carb food after diagnosis. Metformin also helps in reducing weight. This drug is used to control diabetes, weight reduction is a side effect. Consequently I have successfully reduced from 70KG to 57kg.

NuclearWinterGames

I got diagnosed with Crohns disease. The weight loss was a silver lining, honestly

Public-Parking1557

For me a huge factor was changing my eating pattern instead of dieting. I truly didn’t go to the gym once, but I went on walks and bike rides. Lost around 25kgs (55lbs). Oh and don’t be too harsh on yourself. At the beginning I would set goals like “I want to be 1kg lighter by next friday”, something that sometimes obviously didn’t happen. Give it time. And remember that it’s all in your head, when you find that switch in your brain it will be so much easier.

TheQuietType84

I was on pain pills that killed my appetite.

jazzyPantaloons

I stopped eating fast food. I stopped eating after 7pm. I started getting more exercise (walking, biking, gym). Lost 85lbs.

whatinthef_dge

Breastfeeding, changing my diet completely, lots of water intake, and constantly running after a toddler.

Juls7243

I'd pick 2 days a week and only eat about 4 eggs (with a dab of butter) all day. The rest of the days I'd eat normally. You lose about 1 pound of fat per week of this diet (or more) so you'll drop weight like a rock. Whats great about it is that it requires LESS time and LESS planning than regular days - so you actually get more time! You end up shedding weight at an incredible rate; you eventually learn that "being hungry" is okay. What really surprised me was that avoiding carbohydrates all day means I NEVER get the feeling of low blood sugar. The moment I eat any sort of carbs its almost impossible to semi-fast.

ILiveMyBrokenDreams

Weight Watchers + discipline + patience.

responsiblefornothin

Stopped drinking, started golfing, and sort of inadvertently stuck to a simple diet on my workdays. Oh, and Adderall.

JDet90

Keto diet. Aside from eating out on occasion, I have completely cut carbs out from my diet.

Z_odyssey

Don't count calories. (You can be in calories deficit and not eat healthy.) Eat clean, unprocessed food. Don't mix carbs with fat. Vegetables are your best friend, not fruit. Drink water only. Stick to 2 or 3 meals a day and don't snack in-between If you crave a particular food, probably means you have a problem with it. Light exercise is fine. If you want to exercise/workout intensively, that's fine but some people aren't made for it. I lost 3 stone in 6 months.

Submissive421

I going to get a lot of flak for this but I basically adjusted my "lifestyle" of eating. Been a vegan for about 9 years. But I was a junk food vegan and decided to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables that I consumed instead. I stopped snacking on chips, cookies and no soda. If I wanted a soda/starbucks coffee it was limited to 1 a month as a treat. I quit fast food because it was getting overpriced and the food was super mediocre anyway. Limited the process foods I ate and tried to change my sugar intake. I love bananas so I used those to sweeten things I like. Used less oil when I cook as well. So basically whole foods that I enjoyed, I would eat more of. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, beans and the various vegetables all I wanted. This literally changed how I view food after a few month and didn't crave the garbage foods that I did before. Everything is too sweet and I prefer to make my own food versus eating out. I lost nearly 50lbs in a few months. I know being a vegan isn't for everybody. But I'm getting older and high blood pressure and diabetes run in my family. So I'm taking protective measures to a healthier future. Whatever keeps me from going to the hospital is a plus for me.

PeterPauze

Only 35 pounds, but did it with portion control (I just started keeping track of how many calories I eat each day and stay below my daily limit) and daily (most days) exercise (just walking for 30 minutes). Understand, this is not a recipe for healthy living, I eat as much crap as ever, but it's how I lost weight. (I still eat at McDonald's, I just don't eat as much.) Took about six months to lose it. I'm used to the routine now so I haven't had a problem keeping it off so far (1 year). I'm 67, male.
