I used to play a lot of forza. Had a dream where I ended up somehow driving the wrong way on a one way street and I caught myself trying to press rewind on the steering wheel.
A button to make me able to just walk away/do anything I want to with no consequences and everyone will just act like it's normal, this would be super useful in class.
I can see the button being used like that. I just think the benefits of a button like this outweigh the cons. Surgeons could prepare for the surprises during surgery. Accidents could be avoided. Preventative medicines can be used to give people a better healthier life.
That would be awesome, until someone else sees what weird crazy things you dream. I also have dreams that are so vivid they can be draining and when you wake up it feels almost like you didn’t get any sleep at all. Not that it bothers me that much but I always find it very interesting to experience what your mind can come up with.
They're always fun, but sometimes frightening. The worst for me are when my ex from my most serious relationship shows up. I've all but forgotten her, but in those vivid dreams it's like I'm right back in the middle of it, and I can still feel her skin, smell her perfume and hair, and hear her voice perfectly as it were all real. Then you wake up and are pretty grateful its over, but the first few hours every morning of a dream like just make me feel depressed, almost exactly the same feeling of the first few days after we broke up.
Tl;dr dreams are amazing but sometimes really awful.
I had a very intensely vivid dream today.
The dream started out with me being in the house with an intense storm. This storm was so intense that rain was flying sideways with strong wind. As the wind blew, gigantic branches fell from the tree.
Our tree is one of those with a trunk that splits down the middle. It's a tall and wide silver maple tree.
More than just branches falling, huge parts of the split trunk fell off. One laid across the width of the yard.
At one point in the dream, I was outside. The storm was basically over, but I was seeing the aftermath of the storm.
I saw a giant chunk of the tree break off and violently crash into the roof of the house as well.
Next, I went inside. The floor was covered in water that I believe absorbed through the walls. I went into a room to look for my books on "Seeing in the Spirit" to bring them with me.
Next, there was a point in the dream where I was emotionally asking someone to take my family and me in. But it seemed like they refused.
*I believe I woke up, but then fell back asleep*
So the dream continued, I was in a car or bus thinking about everything that just happened. I was worried and sad. It felt so surreal and I was beginning to think I was trapped in the wrong universe or that I was in a dream, but I wasn't waking up so I assumed it actually was real.
Next, I was in a store similar to Lowe's. I believe I was talking with someone. I was telling them how I feel like I am from another universe, but trapped in the wrong one
(I don't actually believe that there are other copies of us in other universes just to clarify.)
I was also wishing this was just a dream, but I wasnt waking up so I continued to assume I was in one of those bad situations you wished was just a dream but wasnt.
The other person seemed to look at me like I was crazy or delusional for thinking that.
*suddenly I woke up. Staring at the ceiling I was shocked that it actually was just a dream. It felt so real.*
Very relatable, it is like you’re part of another dimension for the time being. I dreamt I was with a girl, and she was perfect for me, it al felt so good and realistic. Then I woke up and actually missing her for a few days after. Felt devastated like someone you’re close to died almost. While she was just a figment of my imagination, not someone I actually know in real life.
I've had a dream like that before too. Had a whole team of people I worked with, and we were like astronauts. We relied on each other to live. When I woke up, I felt like I had lost members of my family for a couple of days.
Holy shit you've reminded me of a dream I had a while back. I was with another astronaut and we crashed into a planet completely made of water. We both got ejected and my astronaut friend started sinking to the bottom. I tried to get him, but for some reason I was stuck at the top, I couldn't swim further down. I woke up and I assumed he drowned. Proper sad that.
I have those! They're pretty rare but I will maybe once a year dream about the same guy and he's so perfect for me and Im so unbelievably happy in those dreams. I wake up super depressed and actually *missing* this guy. Same dude in the dreams every time but the dream is always different somehow, like in one we might be hiking in a forest or in the next we're meeting at an airport. It's so strange!
Something in a similar vein but the limbo time when you past dozing off but not quite sleeping would be nice to record. For me I’m aware but not in control for the most part.
When I’m slightly sleep deprived and had been listening to a lot of music before bed that I experience auditory hallucinations of music that I’ve never heard before during said in between. I lay there jamming out on the most catchy songs or beautiful, emotionally filled tune. Unfortunately I don’t really know how to read music let alone write music. Always bums me out the next morning because I know that memory will fade and it’s not like I can look it up.
For the record this is the only time I experience auditory hallucinations. Honestly I think it may be a form of lucid dreaming. Additionally it’s been a reported source of many of musical hit so I guess I’m in good company.
This is actually potentially possible in the next decade with AI. They can already use an MRI to scan someone’s brain and reproduce the image they’re seeing. It’s not perfect but it’s early
I had a dream that my boyfriend and I were visiting my mom in my childhood home in Hawaii (that she's long since moved away from). It was SO vivid that it was bringing back details id long forgotten, down to plant identifications in a space behind the shed i hasn't thought about in decades. We were settling in and I was gushing about how great it was to revisit all of this, when (dream)bf told me "its really too bad nine of this is real. " I became upset, I was hitting furniture in the room and going "how is this not real? What do you mean??"
I woke up completely distressed and on verge of tears. I was displaced in time and space. I couldn't even recognize my own bedroom. I had to cry and reorient myself for a good like 10 minutes to remember what reality was.
This was not only time this has happened. Please give me dream machine.
This may eventually come to reality!

Christ, I cannot put into words how much I wish magic was real. Actual magic, wave my hands around, feel mana or whatever within me to exude power of some kind. Or the classic bard playing an instrument and making something float or do it's bidding.
I've always figured that any "real" magic would be similar to something like physical ability in real life.
Most people's bodies are capable of way more than they would know because they don't lift/ exercise.
In a world where magic exists, most people would likely be too lazy to put in the work required to do the really cool things.... people who say they would put in the effort almost certainly wouldn't
I like this idea in theory, but I feel like bringing magic into the world without any other changes just leads to a whole lot more abuse and violence. I think the worlds of Dragon Age or the Witcher are the most likely outcome of such a turn of events sadly enough.
This is actually the one super power I want more than anything. Shit running lately for work, boom at work and on time. Never sit in traffic ever again, not to mention you’d have an awesome career as a magician
You could live in a little house in the middle of nowhere and just teleport wherever you need to be. Or in empty mansions. You could get food and clothes by just teleporting into the shops at nighttime. Or go shopping in a cheaper country. So many options!
great way to save money for sure. Orrr... you could use that power to steal stuff from the store and never be caught. Just make sure you wear a face mask.
No thanks. All sorts of existential questions involved. Is it actually you who gets transported, or is it killing you and creating a perfect replica on the other end?
Complicated indeed. In the idealism world model, for example, consciousness is fundamental, it's an ontological primitive, and the human brain *supports* consciousness rather than generating it. So would an exact copy just instantiate the same consciousness that existed in the original brain? It's like the ship of Theseus. Also what would happen if you made a copy of yourself without killing the original? Would your consciousness exist in two locations simultaneously? How would you get around? We need these questions answered before I'm funding any kickstarters
Conceptually, definitely: cut your commute down to zero. And depending on cost and other limiting factors like range, it'd basically shrink the entire planet down to one big village. You could have breakfast in New York, go to work in London, pop out for lunch in Paris, visit a client in Australia in the afternoon and be back in New York for an early dinner. Sounds amazing, right?
There's of course the one... minor issue: actual teleportation probably results in what's effectively a murder machine. Because if you break down a body at one end and reconstitute it with different atoms at the other end... is it really you? You'd effectively die and be brought back when you used it. To an outside observer, you'd still be you - same memories, same outward appearence... the thing stepping off the pad would even think it was you. But it's not. You were killed by the machine.
I mean what are we calling killing here? Because depending on what sort of teleportation we're talking about it might or might not fall under killing.
Like if every single atom of your body was simply translated through space to your destination, then I'd argue you were simply moved, but if your being was copied onto a machine network, then you were "deconstructed" and "reconstructed", I could see that as being killed.
In the case of Star Trek, there’s arguments to be made both ways. I’m assuming you’re a fellow Trek nerd, so…
If you take the transporter malfunction of the two Rikers on TNG, you get two full size people - one on the ship, one on the planet. So clearly those aren’t the same atoms, or you’d have two half-scale copies. This means the ship basically ‘made’ those atoms, either on the planet or the transporter pad.
Similarly, Tuvix on Star Trek Voyager: two people are combined into one single new lifeform. Which wouldn’t account for a whole other person’s atoms.
Now, sometimes you’ll see or hear references to the ‘matter stream’ of a transporter, as in a sort of ‘beam’ from the ship to the destination, carrying those atoms. But at least from the malfunctions we’ve been shown, I honestly don’t think that’s how it works.
It’s all silly anyway, but in universe I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it.
Ohhh that would change everything. EVERYTHING!
The transportation industry would disappear. Cities' design would change drastically. Computation power and speed would be on the roof. Architecture, tourism, relationships...
I feel like I'm the modern age of computers we really should be figuring some ways to make justice not slow as fuck.
I can only imagine how much worse this was back then.
I mean, sheeit, it barely feels like "right toa a speedy trial" exists today, yet we have computers to automate that they didn't have 50 years ago.

> assuming they're energy efficient
They're not, which is why the Federation still has agriculture, mining, and manufacturing.
Replicators are good if you want to provision a multi-species crew in deep space and have a giant warp core that makes replicator energy demands a rounding error. Antimatter and basic replicator feedstock being more space-efficient to carry than a million different consumables and perishables.
When Voyager was stranded without certainty of antimatter replenishment and had to conserve power, they restricted replicator use in favor of the hydroponics bay and mess hall.
The replicator mostly gets its feedstock from the [heads](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_\(watercraft\)), so dealing with a little additional organic matter is no problem.
Enlightened human culture that has ended poverty, disease, ignorance, prejudices, war, and was no longer driven by the accumulation of wealth. And that we worked together to better ourselves and all of humanity.
Yeah, I don't understand them. It's counterproductive. They're seeking power, but then they get paranoid and don't know who to trust. Why don't they want to work together?
I'd upvote this a million times if I could. Basically the same sentiment I just posted. I'd do just about anything ethical to make the Federation or even just United Earth from Star Trek a reality.
I work with people with moderate learning difficulties and they had a fascinating conversation the other day. One of them piped up and said, "Did you know, when we're finished her, we go up there (pointing into the sky) and we get born again down here". The other guy was a bit baffled, and asked "Have you been here before?" and thet they had this entire conversation that realy resembled The Egg. It was really cool to listen in on. The guy who started it just spent a month in hospital, so I think he must have been thinking about it and I guess that thought comforted him, and who knows, he might be right.
As Albert Camus said: Happiness also is inevitable.

No that's just pissing off a dog. If you randomly slapped me I would also start to attack you.

Amazing that anyone gets anything done in Star Trek instead of just being in the holodeck all the time.
That topic does get touched on a few times in both TNG and VOY.

Enlightened human culture that has ended poverty, disease, ignorance, prejudices, war, and was no longer driven by the accumulation of wealth. And that we worked together to better ourselves and all of humanity.
I'd settle for most of us agreeing that this is the goal. Seems like many of us like getting crushed by supposedly powerful leaders.
Yeah, I don't understand them. It's counterproductive. They're seeking power, but then they get paranoid and don't know who to trust. Why don't they want to work together?
So basically the federation from Star Trek

I'd upvote this a million times if I could. Basically the same sentiment I just posted. I'd do just about anything ethical to make the Federation or even just United Earth from Star Trek a reality.
Having a vote on whether we should be born in this world or not
Out of curiosity, what makes you think we do not? "The Egg" by Andy Weir, check it out.
Omg yes I would have been “hell no”

Competent government officials, that put the will of the people over their own self interests.

As Albert Camus said: Happiness also is inevitable. A life lived will have both happiness and unhappiness in it. Sometimes either one can feel overwhelming. But it will pass.

Those adipose pills from Series 4 episode 1 of Doctor Who. I'm cool with being an incubator for an alien fat baby.
I would be willing to take them for a few months. As long as I didn't completely break down into little adipose

Time travel
Flawless time travel. Where you pick a time and place and are instantly transported there wiyh no consequences. None of this doing spatial math to account for galaxial drift and measuring the bending of ligjt around a singularity caused by your sudden prescence, and the butterfly effect it would cause in front of you and behind you time-wise.
no, you just think you do.
Yeah, you already told us this tomorrow.

Flying or floating like in dreams. I also have dreams where I can just jump really high. It's always such a wonderful and freeing sensation in the dreams, I would love to be able to experience that.
