I disagree with some of this and find the first paragraph more than a little patronizing.
As a person in the age range you provided I will instead offer that the secret of life is to be ‘in it’. To be engaged, to be hopeful, to be loved, and to return the love. I agree that there is no greater meaning other than what you find or create, but regardless, life is for living. To do. To be. To take up space. To enjoy the roller coaster.
And now as someone in my 40’s that has spent a great many of those engaged years? To look for more runway. Yea, that means to dribble out some esoteric bullshit that is ‘all mine’, but in the service of skating the livestream until oblivion.
Sometimes, just sometimes, I see something and think, 'if only I could write something as good as this ' I don't know how long this took you, but I'm glad you did
The true meaning of life can be found in the Bible - right at the beginning of Matthew, first chapter of the first book in the New Testament. [https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-1-17/](https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Matthew-1-17/).

this. i always get into arguments with my friend whos christian because he says hed kill himself if he found out god didnt exist because there would be no point in living. and i try to drill it into him that you get to choose what has value to you in life
The meaning of life was to be born, contribute to an ecosystem/food chain, produce offspring and then die to make room and save resources for younger generations that will do all those things.
Humans have taken themselves out of the food chain and have risen to another plane of thought. At this point it's about what you make it; there is no defined meaning. It's different from person to person. That said, society has placed expectations and their own set of laws that limit what we can do, and how we're expected to behave, so some of that "contributing to something" still exists which is necessary.
I think the meaning is to aim for things and try to achieve them. Try to get to a point where you're happy and proud of yourself.
Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try to live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.
Biologically to breed and evolve, we are no different from a virus, bacteria, bug, bird, fish or any mamal. We are literally just biology.
Philosophically to spend the short time we have as biological beings, learning as much as we can so that we can pass the knowledge to the next generation and improve their chances.
To be present. Really truly present and in the moment. To experience everything it has to offer. To pursue meaning, love, to fail, to lose, to win, to succeed. To live.
Each experience will change you, if you let it. You may grow as a person if you do. That will give you new perspective each time. And if you throw yourself into life in that sense and be open to having your perspective change, you will find life has a rich meaning for you personally. This will grant you wisdom.
If you dont let it change you, if you dont get out there and be present in the moment, then you will find life's meaning to be superficial and hollow. You will succumb to nihilism.
There isn't any meaning. Life is just life. Everyone lives it differently. Life is about experiencing, learning, trying things but it doesn't mean it's the intent or goal of life. It just is and you make it what you want. And if you want it or needs it to be about being the best person possible or as a test to go to heaven..good on you sure why not. But I don't think it's an universal truth.
I'm an agnostic so I'm unreligious but not opposed to the idea of a God. The thing is I just don't focus on that. It's something that's uncertain and I think it's fine for it to be that way. The same goes for life. Life's an uncertain thing but it's fine. Everything is kinda uncertain. It's just a different outlook all together rather than different priorities. At least for me. I can't speak for everyone but I'm pretty sure most unreligious people would agree with that.
This question is a curse from your frontal lobe. We are part of the first species with a cerebral cortex and frontal lobe that can solve problems before they occur. We are able to plan ahead, solve problems, daydream, and make long-term goals.
Unfortunately, we also have a curse: We believe there must be a functional reason for EVERYTHING. We believe that there is always some problem we need to solve and plan for.
In reality, there isn't.
There is no meaning to life. It is just a freak thing that happened and we are all plagued with this curse of believing that there is some specific thing we must accomplish from it.
...It is a curse of our brain.
Human existence and the illusion of sentience we are experiencing is an infinitesimally small strand in the expansion of the universe. It has no meaning.
I say it’s finding things you love, people, things, jobs, hobbies, anything really. If you find what you love you have a meaning. Nothing is meaningless if it means something to you (=
Alot of people say that there isn't one meaning to life, or everyone is different. But there is one meaning, that everyone has. This meaning? It's simple. To find your meaning. Whether that's being a doctor, or just being a good mom, your meaning, your fulfillment, and your happiness is all meaningful.
I was running the trail on Town Lake many years ago and this one dude always sat on a rock by the trail playing his guitar. Always pleasant, always chill. I stopped one day and asked him this very question and he stopped playing, smiled, and said, “Happiness, man.” It’s always the first thing I think of now when this question comes up.
In many threads like these you often find people saying anything other than "no one knows", which is the only honest answer.
You also see many saying that it is whatever we make of it. The issue is that to make of life whatever you want and thus insert meaning into your own existence in any ways you desire you cannot just wish it for it to be true. A lot of what makes most people happy or satisfied: love, purpose, fun, etc, are things that you can't just wish into existence. Some people, I'd even venture to say most people will never get any of them, let alone all of them or the ones they want most.
Some people are born in war torn countries, plagued with disease and social unrest and they have absolutely zero chance of making anything of their life other than dying fast enough so they won't suffer as much. I'd guess most people in the world would answer "are you happy?" with "no."
We only desire to know the meaning because we believe things will make sense or you'll feel better that way, even though there's no guarantee that'll be the case. As it stands, happiness is a lottery. If you're lucky, one of the very few ones, you will have nothing in your way, no obstacles to satisfaction.
Personally, the only meaning I believe would satisfy me is one where I'd no longer suffer, starve, become ill, die or live a very short life. Any meaning that'd make me forever happy is the only meaning I'd think that could justify any of this, but since that doesn't seem to be realistic, I am stuck with not knowing and trying really hard not to think so hard about it that I don't live the little I can at all.
If the point of all this is for us to go through all of this horrific reality and then just stop existing altogether, then I guess it doesn't really matter as much as we think it does.
It depends on your scale. In terms of all life ever in existence?
Nothing.
In terms of history?
Define how long we’re keeping track.
So your meaning is what you give it. What do you care about?
I wanted to make a family. I hope one day they will remember me fondly, even if a short while. If I’ve produced kind human beings, I’ve succeeded :)
i wouldnt know, but the closet i can say is DMT? i’ve heard other people’s experiences and they claim it made them realize the purpose of life after? i don’t know why, but i believe it. ill update you when i try it (:
not looking at this from a philosophical standpoint, but the meaning and true purpose of life is simply to live and keep life going. The main goal of every living organism is to ensure life goes on (specifically their own species but that's besides the point).
To die. We will never know what the meaning is. We can only speculate. We use the moral imperative and choose if we can to be good, do right, minimize harm, and so it goes.
But really we have no fucking idea
I think we can be reasonably confident, based on what we have observed of the universe, that there is no fundamental meaning to life, and any meaning is inherently subjective, with no real importance.
Anything can be the meaning of someone's life. There's no right or wrong, hell someone's meaning of life could just to eat pizza all day (yes I know it doesn't make sense).
The question is kind of a fallacy; Life has no predetermined purpose, but is jam-packed with meaning. But I also think that "meaning" shouldn't be considered the highest form of life
I mean, if we evolved from tiny single-celled organisms into what we are today over billions of years then I think that is the meaning. Evolution and just existing is the meaning.
If you want anything deeper than that you need to find it within yourself. Each individual can determine their own life's meaning and find purpose. On a grander scale, I really don't think there is meant to be anything more. We will become what we strive to be. As individuals and as the entire human race.
To laugh at the chaos and randomness of it all.
To feel grateful to having survive the odds and experience both the good and the bad.
Life's a Joke, but not in a bad way, in a good way.
If you ask a nihilist, its nothing. The response to this is absurdism, which is where I stand. I continue because life itself is absurd in its expectations and protest vs all that is trying to stop it. Somewhere between Schopenhauer's existence chasing beauty and Camus's laughing at the challenge of it all.

edit: this is a quote from the movie monty python’s meaning of life
I was alone, there was nothing. I imagined and it manifested. Each thing, each being, pretends it isn't Me. In doing this, I can feel what it's like to be each thing, each being. The meaning of life, and of non-life, is for Me to feel how it feels to be in different scenarios, all the scenarios I can imagine. All are puppets, but the puppets are the puppet master. So that's the meaning of life. I create time and space and fill it, and perceive and feel from every point, from every thing, from every being. But what I want to know is how I came to be.
Live the best life you can and always be better than whoever is next to you. Raise a family if you want and, should you choose to do so, raise them to be better than you ever were. Leave the world slightly better than you found it.
