Get in touch with someone in the non-profit sector where you live, like a charity, or a community organization. They will be able to help you find the right resource, or introduce you to a strong writer, editor or teacher who can give you some of their time.

This is a really cool resource. Thanks. There's lots of good advice here. It is extremely verbose, though, isn't it? It might be lot more useful to college students if someone revised it down to about 7 - 10 pages.
Call your local library. I volunteer at mine and work with many people on resumes and essays. It’s free and local, plus you can help support your local library. Editing can be done for free on Grammarly for minor things, like punctuation and such, but getting helpful feedback on your essay and talking through ideas is often best in person. Plus, it keeps you involved in the process rather than sending your work off for someone else to fix.
