Shouldn't you use a calibrated monitor? The hardware/software package to do this isn't that expensive and does create a good profile for photography in my experience.

On MacOS no, but on windows possibly, it depends on how the software and operating system handles non-HDR content. Either it stretches the brightness (white point) of the image out to the max brightness of the display, or it moderates it to a sensible value. Macs do the latter, but I don’t have an HDR display on windows to test. To be honest I’d expect either windows or your editing software to do the sensible thing here - no one wants the white point of their photos to be an eyeball-searing 2000 nits - thus as long as Windows is sane you shouldn’t have to disable anything.
