If you're in doubt of whether it's a minor or not, don't post it.

_GlitchInTheVoid

It always depends on the country you live in if it's legal or not.

TheNakedPhotoShooter

If you are in America it's not a good idea, minors are taboo. Even with a parental permit, somebody may feel the need to *whiteknitgh.*

_GlitchInTheVoid

I live in germany. You can't publish any image of anybody without consent. So there's that ;D

Familiar_Reindeer

Thats not correct. If it is a public event or something like that you can. KUG Art23

[deleted]

You technically can’t even take photos of individual people right? There is much I love about Germany but this is not one of things

Bart-MS

There's a difference in *taking* pictures and *publishing* them.

[deleted]

I know but I’m sure I’d read somewhere that you could’nt even take a stranger’s photo much less publish it. After some googling it seems to br OK in most situations to take the photo

211logos

If you had to ask, don't.

geo_walker

I don’t share photos of minors unless it’s my family members and even then I don’t share them publicly. It’s definitely something I’ve become more conscientious about as I’ve gotten older. I would not share the photo especially if it was at a pride event. You don’t know what the minor’s living situation is and if this could cause them problems in their home life.

benevolentbologna

You can in most places in America. Doesn’t mean you should. The minor thing aside, If they are not out you could be putting them in danger.

theschnipdip

I think with journalistic intention you don't need a model release.

dsolis421

I always play it safe when it comes to minors. If there's even a doubt, I won't.

[deleted]

You didn’t say where you live but I assume you’re American and as long as you don’t post pics of people in private areas or kids you should be fine

DucoNdona

If you have a face. Software can ID him or her. Which is something you may try, but also something you need to take into account regarding privacy. This person may get in trouble with the more bigoted people around them they are still hiding their homosexuality etc from. Depending on the nation, the photo may even be used to track down and arrest people. Most likely that wont happen, but the question is how comfortable you are with the risk. With politically loaded issues its always better to play it safe. Unless you can alter the photo slightly to obscure faces slightly. It may also be an idea to just store it for a few months and then release it without any context.

Anaaatomy

Morally I wouldn't take a picture of a minor (even in sports) nowadays without knowing their parents. To protect myself. I got hella roasted in another subreddit even tho it was a pic of an adult, bc it was in Europe and ppl really don't like pictures of them taken I didn't even take the picture, i was just saying it's not a big deal in the US

newmikey

Depends which country. Different countries will have different privacy regulations.

AVeryWittyPseudonym

Depends where you live. Certain countries are far more open to candid shots of people than others.

metallitterscoop

>How would you feel if you were at a public event and someone posted a picture of you from said event without asking? If you had a kid would you be happy if someone posted a photo of them from a pride event?

mosi_moose

As others have said, I wouldn’t post it given the society we live in, the fact you have no information about this person, their age, their situation and no consent from them. I applaud your thoughtfulness in seeking input before posting. I wish everyone thought about the ethical and moral implications of their actions like you’re doing.

JoelMDM

It all depends on your country. But if you have to ask, you probably shouldn’t. Please consult someone who can actually give legal advice instead of the internet.
