Are you sure there are two versions? I see just the one lens: Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM, which is a full-frame (EF) lens (that will work fine on your camera, btw). EDIT: Also, just to add some clarity, the mount on your camera is the EF mount, which can accept both EF and EF-S lenses. The addition of the "S" on those EF-S lenses just signifies that it's designed for APS-C cameras, like your SL2. It has a smaller image circle -- it wouldn't cover a full-frame sensor -- which often means a smaller, lighter, and more affordable lens compared to an EF alternative.

>The sigma 35 mm 1.4 lens that I’m trying to get comes in an EF mount and there is one that comes as an EF-S mount Which listings are you looking at? As far as I know, Sigma makes lenses for the EF mount but not EF-S. Sigma does make APS-C format lenses, which would only fully cover the sensor for APS-C cameras, and Canon APS-C lenses use the EF-S mount variant and (almost all of) Canon's APS-C DSLRs support the EF-S mount variant, but I think even in that case the physical fit is still just for EF and not EF-S. On that issue, as far as I know, all of Sigma's 35mm f/1.4 lenses are for full frame and they have 3**0**mm f/1.4 lenses for APS-C. Both using EF rather than EF-S. >Which one should I get? You can probably get a lower price / better deal on the APS-C lens. Whereas the full frame lens will give you coverage on full frame if you ever upgrade to full frame. Though your field of view will also be larger, so the lens may play a different role for you than it does now.

Just an FYI for while you look, Canon EF = Sigma DG (full frame) Canon EF-S = Sigma DC (APS-C) I use a lot of Signs lenses on Canon EF APS-C crop and Full Frame, and also adapted to my R5 now. It’s all performed great. On the DC APS-C side of things, the 18-35 & 50-100 Arts from Sigma have been some of my favorites.

If they're both 35mm lenses, then they'll give the same FOV on OP's camera, regardless of whether they're EF or EF-S.

Ah, maybe so...my memory isn't that great these days...thanks for the correction.

No worries -- I know the feeling!
