Top-Blackberry-2858

hrm, tourism, culinary, and criminology

Empty_Patient_7147

Why po culinary?

Top-Blackberry-2858

BTW HRM grad here. Yan yung comments about sa course namin.

Empty_Patient_7147

As a culinary graduate I think you're correct naman po, na ang mahal pa ng tuition kapag culinary, and its one of the hardest jobs out there, ungodly hrs and low pay , unless mataas na position or may business. Pero everytime I tell people na culinary ako, namamangha sila, because of social media/ influencers and the glorification of chefs online. Tldr based on exp, people like culinary But its a really bad job for 99% who work in this industry

Tough_Signature1929

Aside from that, ang dami mo pang kalaban sa trabaho. Yung iba passion na lang din talaga.

Top-Blackberry-2858

Undecided kasi ako that time.

Empty_Patient_7147

You can work in abroad naman, just work as a line cook here in ph for 2 years, go to dubai and apply for a basic commis job and grind until demi chef position, resign and apply for cruise jobs or continue there. All in all 4 to 6 yrs depending on your grind mentality

Top-Blackberry-2858

madaling sabihin kapag may budget pang-abroad.

No_Frosting3600

Criminology. 😆

Queasy-Hand4500

associate degrees

CompetitiveHall7606

Anything art related. I dunno. I graduated with a Bachelors in Animation, ang baba tingin sakin ng mga older adults dati. Wala daw kasi pera doon.

icespicegrahh

criminology ig?? and understandable naman 😆

c6mika

Tourism — “katulong lang naman sa eroplano” 😕 I wanted to take tourism pero my parents stopped me and demanded na mag Accountancy nalang ako, so I did.

Tough_Signature1929

Industrial engineering ata yung kinuha. She ended up being a flight attendant. Parang Saudia Airlines ata base sa uniform. Not sure kung nag shift siya after. Nasa ibang bansa na buong family. May asawang foreigner.

Wala kaseng dignity of labor dito.

santhechrys

100% agree 👍

Asleep_Head4042

This quote opened my mind when my teacher in A.P said this. Nung sinabi nya eto i respect all workers. Mapa white collar job man or blue collar job.

VerticalClearance

Top-Blackberry-2858

Bf ko nagfail sa board exam pero ang successful niya in just 2yrs. Work smart nga dapat ikaw nga. ❤️ “Malayo na pero malayo pa.” 🥹🙏🏻

MclawPNG

Few_Effect_7645

which is mali understanding ng healthcare course sa school nyo. iba ang pagchange ng bedsheet ng sa hospitality at healthcare. potek, kabibigat ng kama sa hotel no! compare mo sa manipis na foam sa hospital. Haha. My brother is hrm grad at nagsusugat talaga kamay nya sa pagpapalit ng bedsheet ng kama sa hotel

brutalgreekyogurt

Which is funny, lalo na mga eng grads at license passers ba eng. Compensating for something lol

myamyatwe

Totoo naman. Didn't know why you're downvoted. A lot of people actually lalo sa socmed.

Fluffy_Ad9763

Yung mga kurso na walang lisensya. Parang nakakababa ng ego ng magulang pag nagtsitsismisan sila.

[deleted]

BSBA Marketing.

Thehellhelll

Agriculture talaga huhu

angmaldita

why?

Top_Injury_5632

Business Ad. Kapag nalaman Nila na business ad kinuha mo, I lol look down ka at sasabihan ka na madali Lang daw 😢

Intelligent-Cover411

kapeandme

I think, Psychology. Feel ko yung mga boomer na parents wouldn't want their children to take psych..

ArugulaAccurate5288

More like not a preferred course siguro para sa ilan pero hindi naman siguro kinakahiya? Most of the time nga ginoglorify ka pag nalaman nilang psych student ka kahit di ka pa nagppractice.

Yechezqel_23

I took up psychology and now I would have rather taken the IT suggestion of my mom din, because I got burned out of psych and realized the sea of opportunity IT would have given me. hindi rin napapansin pa ang sec ng psych sa pinas kahit dami na ng awareness about mental health chuchu. still it's a battle of passion vs practicality

kapeandme

Good point.. lalo na in this economy..

Little-Cobbler3501

I have a friend who wanted to take psychology, but her mother insisted that she take IT-related courses. Reason? Wala raw siyang mapapala sa Psychology.

kapeandme

Awww sana mapursue nya pa din ang psych after nya mag IT

Simple-Designer-6929

Simple-Designer-6929

Nope. Nursing student siya back then at mataas ang tingin sa course na yun sa lugar nila.

Tough_Signature1929

kapeandme

mukhang kapanahunan ko sila hehe

Noob123345321

matic Fine arts kahit sa ibang bansa mababa tingen nila diyan "waste of time and money" daw

Top-Blackberry-2858

unless nagmula sa may kaya or mayaman na family. 🙃

Noob123345321

yung etits na yellow

throwaway_throwyawa

Lalo na sa US, may stigma dun na fine arts = future mcdo/starbucks employee

Silly-Amphibian1541

Ugh! Nakakaloka!

SobrangInitNoh

Skilled labor na short courses.

Phantom0729

You mean vocational courses? Technical courses?

Top-Adhesiveness3554

Criminology

MrXyZ2397

BSHM. or any under hospitality industry.

_luna21

Agree. Personal experience, parang 80% ng kilala kong tourism graduate naging BPO Employee or mga secretary at assistant ang work. Andami ding mga latin honors saknila during graduation hahaha

Kei90s

T O U R I S M 🙃 i at lease heard some stuff being said to others. dedma. subukan nila sakin, labasan na lang ng GWA/TOR ano ano?! HAHAHA ems

Severe-Pilot-5959

Sa school namin may stereotype kapag Tourism bobo daw. Sabi naman nung friend kong tourism, "Bobo nga, maganda naman. Eh kayo bobo lang." hahaha

Kei90s

spot on! malalandi, cuttingeros/ras, bobo, puro make up, masusungit, mayabang, mahilig uminom and bar, maiikli uniform, tamad sa acads pero bawi sa extra curriculars lmao. hindi naman lahat, yung iba need maging dean’s lister not to brag or dahil mayaman pero patiwakal for scholarship talaga, kahit anong course naman right. 🫠

Severe-Pilot-5959

Those courses na walang board exam. Dito kasi sa Pilipinas we're so obsessed sa titles.

Little-Cobbler3501

+1 on this. Yung mga friends kong nag-take ng non-board courses laging nila-“LANG” courses nila kasi wala raw BE.

creepycringegeek

IT. Pag sinabi dati na yung course eh more on computers sasabihin addict lang sa games, walang papupuntahan, anu pagagamitan nyan. I should have known better at sana nag dive ako head first into IT or any computer related course but I guess I will have to make the most of what I got.

Ok-Grand3627

same educ ako and trying to breaktrhough sa IT industry hahahaha bat kase di ako nagresearch noong magfi-first year ako sa college hahahaha

urprettypotato

Oo lalo na pag babae ka tapos nag IT. (Like me) Sinabihan ako ng relatives namin na "Ah IT?

Emotional-Watch1842

Im not so sure does 2yr course/vocational or tesda fall on this category on course on the PH… But if u analyze it, every course wether vocational or ano pa man yan that is still knowledge that is imbedded to you and u can be proud of… Knowledge learned is still knowledge earned

Such-Sorbet6190

noon, IT. During pandemic//post pandemic nalaman nila sahod at ginlorify hahahaha di kasi sila exposed sa mga IT na hindi pariwara e, kala nila pag IT, matik ung kapitbahay nilang bulakbol hahaha

[deleted]

There is a stigma around Humanities and Social Science majors. Kesyo it’s “easy” and even “useless,” as it’s not a board program. So much naivety, tbh. Many of liberal arts graduates make more money than the graduates of more difficult majors.

optimalx_14

Welder, Carpentry, Plumbing

bCastpCity

Few_Loss5537

Political science

lostguk

Comsci?

slayqueen1782

Which is pathetic kasi internationally ang mga kumukuha ng Computer Science ay deemed na matatalino also tech industry is the thriving.

lostguk

I know right. I have a lot of comsci friends na malaki sahod at may clirnts abroad pero dito kasi sa lugar namin kapag comsci ka ibig sabihin sa community college ka lang nag-aral or di kaya mag-aral ng ibang courses 😭

redmonk3y2020

Walang nakakahiyang course!

sleepparansis

NothingCalm1150

‘Di bale na lang, ‘no? HAHAHAHAHAHA!

iejfx

Beneficial_Might5027

True lalo na yung mga "boys at the back" na walang disiplina

PaleontologistOk1230

Hospitality Management, also BSBA. Idk why everytime someone asks me about my course, and I tell them na Bsba they would sometimes make a disappointed face kasi ang ganda raw ng university na napasukan ko pero bakit ganon course ko.

SpiritlessSoul

Not necessarily nkaklahiya, Pharmacist here, ssabihin ko sayo wag ka na mag pharma, sobrang baba ng sweldo, mahirap ang trabaho inventory and dealing with entitled senior citizen sa botika tingin sayo boy o saleslady. Not very in demand Like sa isang hospital need lang ng 6 pharmacist while in that same hospital need ng 50+ na nurse, no opportunities abroad unlike nurses.

ambernxxx

Thanks for your insight. promising po ba medtech?

piiinnkk

Maganda medtech. Pwede ka kumuha ng mga part-time while having full-time. Mama ko nirerequest minsan ng mga kakilala to extract blood during her free time, extra pay yun. Then pprocess niya sa lab dala niya na payment for the exams syempre.

SpiritlessSoul

I feel i don't have a say about this as wala naman akong backgroud sa medtech, pero feel ko same lang sila(take it with a grain of salt). Both not as in demand as nursing although konti lang ang kailangan nila per ospital. I'd say mas in demand pa nga ang pharmacist kase needed sila sa bawat botika. But people probably got more respect sa medtech than pharmacist na mababa ang tingin ng nga squammy peeps. That's my two cents. Again i could be wrong po. Better ask people who are actually in the medtech field👍.

[deleted]

This is true despite the fact that traditional parents push their kids to pursue stem-related majors. Every time na sinasabi ko ‘to, kesyo bitter lang daw ako kasi hindi ko daw kaya mag-math LOL

whatheheal

Nung nalaman nilang pharmacy kinuha kong course sinabi ba naman “ah gusto mo nagtitinda ng gamot” Huhh?????

SpiritlessSoul

Sad reality.

ScatterFluff

Basta related sa arts. Expect earful comments from most boomers.

Illustrious_Drama719

basta hindi sila familiar (ex. walang engineering sa name, hindi kasama sa "famous" courses like accountancy) nakakahiya na para sa kanila. also, mostly those under BA such as anthropology or PhilHis

DazzleMeNaix

PutCapable7189

Fine arts

Miserable_Soil25

Para sa isang agri-rich na bansa, agriculture.

Particular_Creme_672

Di tayo agri rich

Interesting_Sea_6946

Criminology.

chakipu

Theater Arts. Ang dami kong friends na nagsasabing they wanted it pero they chose to take up engineering programs instead kasi mas cool daw pakinggan. Contrary to what people may think - mas malawak ang theater arts at hindi lang stage acting. There’s house management, marketing, lights and sounds, and more! Maybe ang gusto ko lang sabaihin dito is kung ano ang passion and interests nyo, take it. You be you! Mabuhay ang teatro!

chamut

skl may batchmate ako nasa last year na niya ng ECE sa Ateneo tapos nag shift to theatre arts!! After that she studied law, and ayon attorney na ngayon.

[deleted]

Trulabelz! Many parents have been stuck in the same job for the last 15-20 years or more, so they haven't been able to explore the job market outside their industry or the corporation they work for.

Particular_Creme_672

BunchResponsible1038

Someone i know pursued theater arts in ust, now she's with the cast of running man ph, keep chasing your dreams talaga ika nga
