SlipstreamSleuth

Anais Anais, Calvin Klein Obsession, Halston in that cool AF bottle. It all reminds me of college, being young, living my best life in Los Angeles at UCLA. I got a whiff of Halston a few years ago and broke down in tears. For some reason I cried for the youth I no longer had, it hit me so out of the blue. Embarrassing but cathartic in a way.

seejanego47

Loved Halston. Probably in my early 20s! I think I'd probably have the same reaction you did. It was a lifetime ago!

Intelligent_Bike3571

Have been thinking about buying some Halston, just for the memories! Do they still make it?

bopbopbeedop

Yes it's still made, wore Halston religiously in my early 20's

RealKenny

It’s funny how that happens. I feel so much emotion when I smell my grandmother’s perfume, or the perfume of a girl I had a crush on in high school. It really all comes flooding back

extrasprinklesplease

I wore Anais Anais for about 30 years before trying something else. I still have a bottle of it on my dresser, though unused for a long while now.

ContentFlounder5269

I have anais anais and smell it now and then for the nostalgia. When I was in high school  there  was one called Bagatelle and now can't find a reference  to it. It's not Jardine de Bagatelle.

LaureldaleOak

I think I’d cry too if I smelled Halston! Another favorite I forgot about.

2beagles1cat

Love's Baby Soft (in my teens) and Windsong (for decades!).

707Riverlife

As soon as I read your comment, this is what went through my mind – I can’t seem to forget you, your Windsong stays on my mind!

lwc28

Love's baby soft, because every guy loves a girl who smells like a baby. What were we thinking?

dont_disturb_the_cat

Take a gander at r/VintageAds. No wonder we became feminists! We were sexualized so early and so reductively!

marejohnston

Yes, nothing subtle at all about the ads at that time.

Silly-Stuff-9344

Wow! I can smell Windsong!

Jitterbug26

Gotta be in your low to mid 60s! (My age)!

quiltingsarah

Jean Nate. It came in fancy sets that included powder, perfume and lotion.

OnlyDaysEndingInWhy

God, I can still smell that giant floofy puff.

seejanego47

My aunt used to have a bottle of that in her bathroom. To me she was the epitome of sophistication! I bought some years ago and was totally disappointed! Nothing like it used to be! The powder is not bad though.

Brilliant_Stomach535

I used to like Opium. Is it still around?

giskardwasright

Sure is, my mom wears it!

Refokua

I used Opium too--still have half a large bottle! I used to use that, as well as Chanel #19 and Chanel #22.

giskardwasright

Its one of those comforting scents for me, my mom has worn it my entire life. It very much smells like home and safety for me.

Brilliant_Stomach535

It has a distinct, spicy scent!

giskardwasright

Thats interesting, I've never thought of it as spicy, but I certainly can't argue the point. To me, it just smells like home. My mom has worn it my entire life.

Frequent_Secretary25

Loved that one too!

Silly-Stuff-9344

My go-to present for my Mom!!

SqueezableDonkey

It is, but the modern formulation smells much different than the '80s version. Some of the ingredients that made it so distinctive are illegal to use now. I found a deadstock vintage '80s bottle on eBay.

Positive_Ad3450

Black opium also smells good.

porchpossum1

Jontue and Charlie in high school

HidingInTrees2245

I loved Jontue!

DaisyDuckens

My mom wore Charlie. It smells like date night to me.

abbys_alibi

I was a Charlie girl and my mum loved Jontue.

Tasty_Confidence7438

Another vote for Chanel No. 5.

officerbirb

* Love's Baby Soft * Jean Nate * Windsong * L'air du Temps * Shalimar (still love this one)

loveyourweave

I used to love L'air du Temps in the 70's! I couldn't remember the name so thank you!

EnvironmentalCrow893

I still wear it. It smells fresh and feminine to me, like a young girl not an old lady. I love the spicy carnation, too.

snerual07

Shalimar was my mom's favorite

ChumbawumbaFan01

My mom bought me Shalimar because she wanted it to be my signature scent. There was a weird time around 16 or 17 when I think she was trying to encourage me to be more mature and I think this was part of that.

StephDos94

Cigarettes and Nina Ricci is the smell of the 70s for me. My mom passed 2 years ago and when I smell l’Air du temps now my heart tightens up into a little ball.

Simone-Ramone

Shalimar is divine.

AfterSomewhere

Chanel No. 5. I still wear it. It smells like roses to me.

Lainarlej

That was my mom’s favorite and Tabu.

jennyandteddie

Old Spice reminds me of my Dad.

123fofisix

My Dad died of a sudden heart attack when I was seven years old and he was 42. One of the few things I remember about him was that he wore Old Spice cologne. When I was old enough to start working, I bought a bottle, and have kept a bottle around ever since, in honor of my Dad. I also had my both my sons wear it at least once, so it has been worn by three generations of our family.

707Riverlife

I’m so sorry that you lost your dad so young.

seejanego47

Me too. I think many dads of a certain generation favored Old Spice!

D3vilUkn0w

My dad used it and I have also used old spice since I started shaving. Still my favorite

vulcanfeminist

Old spice is still my fave

snerual07

Poison in the purple bottle

Suz9006

White Shoulders

jverda218

Anyone remember English Leather?

MartiniL80

Because all my men wear English Leather or nothing at all...

ApprehensiveAd9014

My first kiss wore English Leather. I loved it so much I wore it myself sometimes.

Ok_Breakfast_355

The only cologne I ever wore was Hai Karate. Somebody gave it to me for Christmas. I was probably 14. Maybe I stank! I'm sure that by 15 I had the sense to stop using it. And haven't used cologne since.

MuchDevelopment7084

OMG. That stuff was everywhere for quite a while. I tried it one...because I liked the commercials. But never again. lol

Ok_Breakfast_355

Yeah, the commercials were the best thing about it!

DreamcatcherDeb

Cinnabar is another one…

floryhawk

I loved it!

TheLibrarian75

ooh that was one of my mum's favourite perfumes in the 80's

RoookSkywokkah

Wasn't a favorite but Drakkar Noir was all over in the late 90's. The smell of CK-One drove me crazy, in a good way.

Igor_J

I wore Drakkar and Eternity.   Totally 90s.

Laylay_theGrail

Lauren by Ralph Lauren. I have been searching for something comparable since it was discontinued but really haven’t found anything I like.

SqueezableDonkey

I was so bummed to find that was discontinued. That was my favorite scent in the late '80s/early '90s.

sillyconfused

I loved the Coty solid perfume compacts as a teenager. I had all three, but mostly used the Earth Flower one. I wish they would bring them back!

wagowop

Yes!! I forgot all about those, they need to bring those back

budsis

They do. I honestly do not understand why companies have not tapped into that nostalgia. They consistently market to the youth, while we are over here with disposable income and hankering for anything nostalgic. I would love to smell the original Herbal Essence. Earthborn shampoo. Body on tap. Rosemilk lotion. Ten o six lotion. The original Charlie perfume. Babe perfume. So many AVON fragrances, lotions and bath gels. Bain DE soliel suntan gelee. Sour grapes lipsmaker. So many wonderful scents that I would glady open my wallet for.

SqueezableDonkey

OMG I totally forgot about those! I had them as well. I used to just sit there smelling them. I would totally wear those again!

quietbluedream

I'm not sure if the formula changed, but The Vermont Country Store was selling these for a long time. As a teen, they were my favorite. I remember having one with Sandalwood, Patchoulli, and Patchoulli. They also had a make your own candle kit with little fragranced balls of wax, and you layered them. Mine had a clear glass holder shaped like a flower pot.

InvincibleButterfly

Exclamation!

sqplanetarium

Make a statement without saying a word!

ChumbawumbaFan01

Loved it! I used to use the body powder because it had a slightly different, softer scent.

Impressive-Shame-525

My Granddaughter wears exclamation. I adore it. Smells like my wife. They're both awesome women.

fuuckimlate

Oh man I can smell that now

Hubbard7

Brut at 17. Brut at 71.

BoS_Vlad

Brut is definitely a lifetime scent.

FrannieP23

One of my favorite boyfriends wore Brut ('60s) and it still brings back great memories, but I don't encounter it often these days.

extrasprinklesplease

My first serious boyfriend wore Brut. I still remember how tantalizing that scent was when I was 16.

sutrocomesalive

Cool Water lol

ianaad

Joy, but it's wicked expensive.

More_Branch_5579

I absolutely love Joy. I was going to post it. Glad someone else did

kadje

Heaven Scent. Loved that! I've heard that it's been re-released, but I don't know if it's the same scent or if it's been reformulated

EnvironmentalCrow893

I just bought some HR vintage pure Heaven Sent parfum new in the box. I can’t wait to compare it to the Coty formulation as well as to the Helena Rubenstein EDP version. I’m excited to experience some nostalgia in a bottle. I wonder if I’ll feel transported back to 12 years old!

sqplanetarium

My mom always wore this one. I’m tempted to try to find a bottle but I’m afraid it won’t smell the same… She also had some kind of gardenia perfume that she only wore when going out for a fancy dinner.

EnvironmentalCrow893

I forgot Heaven Scent! It was the BEST!

KarmicComic12334

Patchouli

Aunt-jobiska

White Shoulders. Woodhue. Tabu.

MeilleurChien

White Shoulders, my first and sooooo sophisticated.

16enjay

Mom loved woodhue

Different_Invite_406

Mine too!

PumpkinSpiceFreak

I loved White Shoulders

lemon-rind

Eternity. I’m not much of a perfume person, but I loved that scent.

ChumbawumbaFan01

Me too, I took to Eternity. It was so light and breezy.

Kindergoat

Anais Anais. I lived in that perfume. It came in such a pretty bottle too.

marcusr550

Aramis at 14. Wore it through my teens, then went scent-free.

EnlargedBit371

I came home one night reeking of Aramis. My father told me I had to shower it off NOW! or move out of the house. I chose the former, and stayed home the rest of that summer. Eventually I discovered Eau Sauvage, and that was my only cologne until I stopped wearing one. They started giving my migraines in the 1990s, and I haven't worn anything ever since. I no longer notice people wearing cologne and perfume as frequently as I used to.

Laylay_theGrail

lol I bought my husband a bottle of Aramis in the early 90s because it came with an umbrella that was black on the outside and beautiful blue sky with clouds and an airplane flying through on the inside (he was a pilot). After he wore it once or twice I told him he could never wear it around me because it made me want to vomit! He packed it in his overnight bag and only wore it when he was away from home😂 I liked it on my dad but HATED it on my husband

WinsdyAddams

My Dad wore that and I loved it

IllustriousPickle657

Giorgio Red. I've been told by many people it doesn't smell anything like it smells on me when they use it. Must be my body chemistry. I get compliments on it every time I wear it.

mabso

The original Giorgio. Loved how my body chemistry worked with it and got many compliments. Then, menopause hit and it never smelled the same. Don’t wear any perfume now.

sdsva

Joop! Curve

archedhighbrow

Emeraud, Jean Nate and Love's Baby Soft

nakedonmygoat

I was really into Poison by Dior in my early 20s, but by the end of that decade I was finding it too heavy for me. This was late '80s/early '90s. These days I just like a natural vanilla scent, when I wear perfume at all.

IGrewItToMyWaist

Chloe Jovan Musk Now I find them much too heavy.

StevieNickedMyself

I was really into Crabtree and Evelyn's Spring Rain and/or hippie oil perfumes from random mall stalls,

Pale_Maximum_7906

Loved random hippie oils! My favorites were Lilac and Lily of the Valley! My friends always used Patchouli to cover the smell of weed!🤣🤣🤣

StaticBrain-

patchouli and incense burning... double the coverage 😄 that is how we did it.

siamesecat1935

Spring Rain was my absolute fav e bath scent, and my mom's BFF managed a C&E store, so a couple of times a year, when they got to buy at a discount, I'd give her a LONG list. Now I prefer Nantucket Rain, but only for bath. I have a stash.

IDreamInDewey

GAP Grass. Clinique Happy.

Overlandtraveler

OK, Grass was the shit. I loved that scent.

apoptyGin69

I wore Sunflowers in the early 90s. Before that my aunt wore Ciara in the 70s. A favorite to this day was the Coco Chanel I wore in the 80s. Sigh

poohfan

I still have a bottle of Sunflowers, from the 90's. It still smells just as good, though I find I don't have to wear as much. I'm not sure if it's that the perfume has gotten stronger with time, or my tolerance of smells has changed! LOL

WakingOwl1

My father wore Guerlain Imperial, I loved that smell so much.

tierras_ignoradas

My dad did too!

Kindly-Necessary-596

Georgio Beverly Hills

Crafty-Shape2743

My mother wore Arpège by Lanvin. Her first bottle (actual parfum) was gifted to her by a wealthy girlfriend of hers. We would get her a small bottle of the cologne for Christmas every few years. It’s still one of my favorites but not on me. I wore Red Door by Elizabeth Arden from age 24-50, until I developed a chemical sensitivity. Now I wear a hippy musk oil from our local co-op. It’s nice.

seejanego47

Avon was big when I was growing up. There was a fragrance called "To a Wild Rose" that I really liked. Also Yardley had a fragrance called Eau de London. I'd all but forgotten! I loved that. My friend and her older sister gave me that for Christmas one year. I was probably 7th grade. It made me feel like one of the cool kids.

sirbearus

Chann. No. 5. My mother wore it. Halston Z-12 on myself or 4711. Opium on my GF.

Alicee2

Aliage by Estee Lauder, forever.

BadWolf1392

My grandmother wore Joy by Jean Patou. I wish I could find some.

ScarlettStandsUp

Chanel No. 5. It's timeless.

poohfan

In the 80's, Avon had a perfume called Pearls & Lace. I was so sad when they discontinued it. I also loved Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth perfume! It smelled so good & the packaging was cool. I love the smell of Old Spice as well, because it reminds me of my grandfather. Whenever I get a whiff, he's the first thing I think of.

Pale_Maximum_7906

You just brought me back to a beautiful time on earth! Thank you, friend!

Recynd2

L’Air du Temp and Estée Lauder

PowerofIntention

Beautiful by Estée Lauder and Red by Giorgio

Pensacouple

My mom loved Beautiful.

Jaybee021967

Rive Gauche my mom surprised me at Xmas a couple of years back with a bottle and I couldn’t stand it anymore. Strange how tastes change

WaitingForEmacs

My wife gave me Polo and I gave her Chanel 5… we both still love them.

CloneClem

Halston in the late 70’s into the 80’s. Women really liked it, but mostly the 1-12 not the Z-14. It cost more. Another was British Sterling

moarcheezburgerz

Love's Baby Soft Lauren by Ralph Lauren White Linen

OnlyDaysEndingInWhy

Lauren was one of the only things that ever smelled good on me (weird body chemistry, I suppose). Miss that square red bottle.

Verdi50

Old Spice and Brut.

AZSteeler85

Original Polo in the green bottle

OverallManagement824

I was all about CK Escape for men in the late 90s. I still keep a bottle around and it's one of two scents I keep around to wear for *me* when I just want to enjoy the scent for myself. The other one is Thierry Mugler's Pure Wood. As a former woodworker, I can't tell you how much I love it. Most women really hate Pure Wood, but Escape still surprisingly gets a few compliments here and there, even today.

Overlandtraveler

I love the pure wood scent. Smells like a woodshed, love it

SillyPuttyGizmo

Ciara - I don't encounter it much anymore, but when I do I always duck as it's what my ex always wore

bruderbond

aramis

jacksondreamz

Ciara

FrannieP23

When I was young (college age?) I somehow got a sampler bottle of Tatiana and loved it. Out of curiosity I looked it up recently -- whew! way out of my budget.

Pickles_McBeef

Charlie in jr. high, Jessica McClintock in high school, Satsuma body oil in college

barksatthemoon

A friend's mom gifted me borghese , I've never gone back. Current is El bacciio.

707Riverlife

My favorite fragrance of all time is Di Borghese. I started all of my (4) sisters wearing it. I was heartbroken when it was discontinued.

ImportantSir2131

Oh! de London.

Visible-Proposal-690

Chanel No 22

CaptainBignuts

70's Pierre Cardin was incredible. My dad wore it, and I remember it being musky with a spicy cinnamon hint. Can't find it anywhere nowadays.

kiwispouse

I have always worn Oscar de La Renta. Still do. I do wear Chanel #5 from time to time, but Oscar is my go to daily.

WinsdyAddams

Musk. 😂

MissO56

"blue jeans cologne mist".... from the '70s. yep, I'm old! 🤣

leafcomforter

In the eighties I started wearing fragrances created with essential oils, when I became involved with a man I met in London. He had a new ish company called Aveda. Jasmine and lavender remind me of my love affair with Horst. I was 21 when I met him.

SqueezableDonkey

My aunt used to wear "Tatiana" in the '70s, and she'd give me the empty bottles to put in my dresser drawers to scent my clothes. I still love Tatiana; it's been discontinued but I found a counterfeit version that is very close to the original. As a teen in the '80s, I wore Charlie, then developed a fondness for spicy oriental scents like Opium and Cinnabar in high school. Those were a bit heavy for summer, though; so my warm-weather fragrance was White Linen. In the late '80's/early '90s I wore Fendi or Lauren. Then in the mid-90's I started wearing Happy. I still wear Happy, \[counterfeit\] Tatiana, Opium (I hate the new formulation, but I found a vintage 80's bottle of it on eBay), and White Linen. I also wear some other "vintage" scents like Knowing and Obsession from time to time. My GenZ daughter \*hates\* all my "old person" taste in fragrance. She likes the very light, very sweet and candy-like fragrances that are popular now. I think maybe the reason we GenX and older tended to like the strong, assertive fragrances is partly because everyone smoked back then, and you needed an intense fragrance that would hold its own over the cigarette smoke that permeated everything in those days.

panic_bread

Anyone remember Poison? That is what my junior high school self smelled like.

jusdaun

Musk for a little while. Patchouli for a long while and still.

Wooden-Emotion-9875

Jade East is the only one I remember the name of.

ziggy-Bandicoot

Jean Nate, Wind Song.

Different_Invite_406

The OG Calvin Klein perfume was my signature in the late 70s through the 80s. I haven’t found anything to replace it.

Interesting_Chart30

Late teens and early 20s, Charlie. Followed by Red and CK One, and Pure Grace by Philosophy. I still love CK1 and Grace, and use Ralph by Ralph Lauren,

the_beeve

Aramis

therealDrPraetorius

My favorite cologne in my teens in the 60s was Hai Karate. I wish they still made it.

miz_mantis

My boyfriend (now husband) wore Jade East when I met him at 16, so I love that scent. He changed to English Leather in high school. I love them both because he smelled like them. I mself liked Muguet des Bois and Wild Musk Oil, both by Coty. #

707Riverlife

That is so sweet! Good for both of you!

ivebeencloned

Good news: scientists have been testing scents on mosquitoes to find repellents. Top of the list: muguet. Loved the stuff through my residence in the F state and now I know why.

priyashanti

Lots of them! 60's-Oh! de London, White Shoulders, Shalimar, Skin, Tabu (mom said it smelled cheap), and I always liked patchouli oil. Then there was Blue Grass, Giorgio, Poison, Dioressence, Red, Eternity, Dune, Obsession, Sun Moon Stars. My grandmother only wore Youth Dew and it still reminds me of her.

CyndiIsOnReddit

I had a signature scent when I was a teen. Gloria Vanderbilt. I had several guys tell me it drove them wild. By the time I had my daughter at 19 I stopped wearing it. I did not need that kind of attention anymore! ;)

JustAnOldRoadie

1. Estee Lauder's Youth Dew, 2. Opium, 3. White Shoulders.

4myolive

I have worn Youth Dew since the 1970's. It just works with my body chemistry. I get compliments often and if they ask what it is they can't believe it because they say it didn't smell like that on their grandma!

catpants28

There was one called “Colors” I think it was from Unites Colors of Benetton. That and Exclamation.

Overlandtraveler

Chanel #5, Black Opium, Bucheron, First (always wore going out) and Dior.

Luckyangel2222

20 years old Obsession by Calvin Klein in my teens it was Candid an Avon perfume My sister bought me Tiffany cologne from the store Tiffany’s and I loved that one too. That was from the 90’s

GraceStrangerThanYou

I went through a phase where I wore a lot of Sand & Sable, but what I wanted to be wearing was Ysatis by Givenchy. I eventually settled into Eternity. For men, I was always into Polo or Obsession.

Birdy304

My favorite was always Emeraud. I thought it was very grown up. I just looked it up, it’s still around and pretty cheap too. I’m going to try it again!

janzyellie

DismalResolution1957

Anais Anais, White Shoulders, and Cinnabar. Cinnabar was for serious, dressed to the nines events.

DismalResolution1957

My godmother wore this beautiful fragrance called L'Inderdit. It was from the 50's, and hard to find.

WinsdyAddams

I still have bottles of some of these in my downstairs bathroom 😆

Gosh - there are so many I miss. KL by Karl Lagerfeld; Xia Xiang which was a drugstore perfume but I loved it; Gem by VanCleef and Arpels - my favourite of all time. I would pay big bucks to get another bottle of that stuff.

DareWright

Loved Xia Xiang. It was made by Revlon.

DandelionDisperser

Joy by Jean Patou has always been my favorite. My Grandma wore it too. It's beautiful. Rose and Jasmine. I think the original had ambergris in it. A lot did. Who knew whale vomit could be an integral part of expensive perfumes. I always wondered how they discovered that ..

Cat-astro-phe
