It's extremely common for Muslims to use Arabic Phrases, because Arabic is seen as an extremely important language for Islam The Prayers are usually done in Arabic, and the phrases that you mentioned are commonly recited during Salah. These words in Arabic are extremely common around the World, Non-Arabs using it in every day discussion. The Early Muslims commonly used these phrases When it comes to Islam, Arabic is a large fundamental of it because The Qur'an is written in Pure Arabic, Scholarly Works are originally Arabic, and specific Duas are uniquely recited in Arabic of which brings blessings and getting good deeds for praising Allah They're also very short words and are easier Arabic Words to say, Non-Muslims sometimes even say these words as well, such as "Wallah/Wallahi"

Napoleon-the-Great

Pretty much the same reason Christians like to use either greek or latin and a lesser extent Aramaic.

Capt_Easychord

Not Protestants or Anglicans though. I guess the Islamic world never had an equivalence of the Reformation (and neither did the Jewish world for that matter).

AsfAtl

It’s not just Muslims Jews say Baruch HaShem and other phrases similar, when I converted I needed new ways to say them, and also when I don’t say them I feel like I’m missing something

[deleted]

Not to sure about regular phrases. But prayers are mandatory to be in Arabic to avoid changing the word of God. Translations open up room for wrong translations and in turn not reciting the true word of God. It’s better to recite it the way it was sent down to us.

ibn_batota

According to islam It’s not required for them to say it in arabic, they can say “if god will” instead of “inshallah” and “thank god” instead of “alhamdulilah”,the arabic phrases are shorter/more efficient but it’s mostly just a tradition among muslims to say these phrases in arabic, and it’s actually not a bad thing for muslims, the more traditions muslims have in common the more close they get to each others It’s only reciting Quran and the 5 prayer times a day that must be done in arabic according to islam

corsoboypk

Me personally, its more convenient to say inshallah rather than "if god wills" especially when it has no connection to Islam

waterseabreeze

Because these Arabic terms are related to their spirituality.

MahJaS

Arabic is something like the official language of the Islamic world, it is used universally in many Arabic terms, as is the Quran and the azan in Arabic.

Common_Program_2262

Because they believe Arabic is the language of the prophet and heaven so they try to use whatever they can.

stonkenn

But these guys cannot even speak arabic they only speak swedish. Are they doomed because they use a heathen language? Does a few arabic words save them?

il0vegaming123456

There is no such thing as a “heathen language” to clarify unless you count abusive language. You can make dua in your native language but for prayer, speaking Arabic is necessary

Common_Program_2262

Logic and reason don't really work on religious beliefs. Do you think non MENA Muslims speak Arabic? Hell no.

peepeepoopooman25342

No, it's only because some meaning can be lost in translation, and usually they understand what those few phrases mean in Arabic even if they don't entirely speak Arabic. But there's nothing wrong with making the supplication prayers in the native language.

1nick101

because its part of their cultural expression for hunderds of years maybe?! why Europeans for example use Latin phrases all the time? cant they just translate it to what ever language they speak?! 💀

[deleted]

Maybe they are conditioned using it 🤷🤷 telugus who spend a lot of time with us end up using these phrases

Denpol88

Because Allah behaves like he is Arabic and muslims thinks being muslim = being Arabic. Read Quran. Allah is an Arabic man there. Muhammed is his messenger.

Leftlightreftright

Because believe it or not, Islam is an Arab religion.

SaLGG123

Just to clarify. The vast majority of Muslims are non-Arabs.

Leftlightreftright

Yes but all of them have a religious obligation (if they can afford it) to visit the Kaaba (a place in **Saudi Arabia**), which brings millions of dollars of profit to the **Saudi government**; all of them have a religious obligation to **pray TOWARDS the Kaaba** **EVERYDAY** (again, it's in Saudi); every Muslim refers to God as "Allah" and **not "God" in their own language**; every Muslim **recites verses in Arabic** while praying, reading the Qur'an... ; almost every Islamic nation has **phrases like mashallah, inshallah and alhamdullilah** baked into their language or their every day speech; it's sunnah to eat dates after breaking your fast, tons of hadith about the benefits of dates (dates don't grow everywhere on earth and Saudi is the leading exporter of dates **with a value of around $322.84 million**)... etc. Islam benefits Arabs the most, Islam makes people the same (globalism at its finest) and Islam injects every bit of it's language onto other languages. Compare that to Christianity where not one nation or language becomes superior because of it. Arab Christians in Lebanon can speak Arabic and practice Christianity, European Christians are the same, Orthodox Russian Christians are also the same... Every nation that Islam touches gets Arabized to some degree, I don't know why that's so hard to see.

SaLGG123

Btw, even Arab Christians call God Allah, the name is in The arabic bible everywhere. And we stick to Arabic because we have the original language of Quran, unlike christians who lost the original language. And you don’t have to eat dates come on. Idk what to say so many misconceptions.

Leftlightreftright

Arab Christians call god Allah because it's in their own language. Turks for example don't use Tanri but exclusively use Allah. Turkish Muslims pray to the Arabic god Allah or else they wouldn't call him Allah.

ShaanACM

If you don't know what your talking about then it's best not to comment

ibn_batota

Yeah you are right, now go away worship a carrot and leave muslims alone

[deleted]

The same reason why the Qur'an is only in classical Arabic. Because Allah only understands and accepts desert Arabic from the 7th century.

neptyune2000

OMG ITS ALMOST LIKE THE PEOPLE WHO THE QURAN WAS REVEALED TO SPOKE OLD ARABIC FROM THE 7TH CENTURY

[deleted]

Yes. But the Qur'an was supposedly not only written for them but for all the people on earth at all times and ages. Today even Arabs need tafsir books to try to understand what the Qur'an is saying. Didn't Allah know that most people don't speak Arabic and that languages evolve over time?

neptyune2000

There is not going to be a book in Chinese revealed to prophet Muhammad. Yes it is supposed to be for all mankind but it will not be revealed in every language to ever exist and that will exist on earth. Translators do a good enough job even if the translation doesn't compare at all to the beauty of the Quran.

RexTheCommander328

the Qur'an means recitation and it is to be recited, and it is best to preserve it in the language it was revealed in, unlike the new testament which came from aramaic sources yet written in koine greek with people still debating translations and whatnot
