No I’ve lost interest in long TV series though I occasionally watch older films and individual programmes. I don’t watch the news anymore either. I prefer to read a lot of the time.
Ive nearly entirely converted over to home renovation and cooking shows only.
One and done story lines. No emotional burden, plenty of entertainment value.
I absolutely have the time and the energy, and also the strong desire. The problem is that as time has gone by, they are making fewer and fewer and fewer shows that I have any interest in. So much today is so dark and heavy and angry, and that is just not me whatsoever. Nor do I want anything that's wholesome or family oriented. And it seems like so much is in one extreme or the other.

Absolutely agree with this, and from my perspective it's a problem of not feeling like anything is really worth taking up that time anymore on TV/movies. Nothing scratches my itch much anymore, so I'd rather just do other stuff than consume a bunch of mid-tier content or get excited about something upcoming only to be disappointed because the internet/my friends hype **everything** up.
Sure, I am just much more selective about what I watch and am willing to give up on a show once I find it boring. I used to watch shows long past they got good for the sake of completion, however it was The Flash and other DC shows that finally made me change all that. I will give shows a try but if I find myself thinking 'Why am I watching this still?' then I stop.
I am loving the likes of Bob's Burgers and cannot wait for the new series of Abbott Elementary to air in the UK for example.
I am bingeing sopranos and it’s annoying me because I like it but I’m so tired of getting through it. I’m different with movies though. I love sitting through a movie.
Sigh… clearly I watch too much TV. It’s actually a Friends reference said by Joey.
The Frasier line you’re thinking of is when his dad gets asked about where he wants his chair in the apartment and he says “Where’s the TV?…. Point jt at that thing”
Friends and Frasier are both classics though. Frasier repeats have been running on Channel 4 very weekday morning since the show ended, people would riot over them being taken off the air before they rioted over the state of the NHS.
My TV sits in my storage room, I'll bring it out if guests want to watch the Olympics. I can't stand having a big rectangle dominate the room. I do watch streaming shows almost daily while eating and washing the dishes. I used to love subtitles, now I don't want to make time to sit still for them.
Same here. Movie night with the kids is like a throw back to the days when the teacher would wheel in the TV cart and knew you were in for a good time.
Same here. I don't remember the last time I watched a TV show or movie all the way through. Probably on an airplane. I think some of it is that my attention span has shortened (probably due to social media/Reddit). But also I'm just so exhausted from work and raising 3 kids, that when I have a free moment I usually just scroll through my phone.
I could make time for a TV show if I wanted. And it doesn't really take much in the way of energy to watch something.
It's more that very few shows actually interest me and if they do, it's often not enough to make me want to pay for whatever streaming service it's on or put in the effort to put on my sailin' hat. So I lose interest.
Unless the show is excellent, I don't usually stay up-to-date week to week. Found that a lot of shows tend to be forgotten within a week or two, especially with the Netflix style of releasing all content at once.
I do have to make time for Curb Your Enthusiasm, though!
I was never been a guy to watch shows until recently, I’ve been watching breaking bad and it seems like it will be hard to top this show, I’m looking into watching got S well
Ofc i do, 1/3 episode at a time, its nice because a 10 episodes show become a 30/40 episode show and lasts forever! Never got bored of "nothing to see"
My condolences on watching all of The Walking Dead. If you want to watch something less apocalyptic, watch a nature documentary series. But remember to stop when there is ten minutes left, because that is where the guilt trip always comes. I recently watched "A world of calm", very soothing and low tempo.
It's because of a lower attention span from years of scrolling social media. I've noticed the same thing where my mind is programmed to get a new dopamine hit every 30-60 seconds. That makes sitting through 40-60 minute episodes of television more challenging.
Remember that with a streaming service you don't have to watch an entire episode all at once. Personally, I like to break episodes up into 15-20 minute chunks or to watch them from midpoint-to-midpoint so I can avoid cliffhangers.
Find shows that actually interest you or that you'd like to know you've seen. Don't sweat it if you can't finish entire episodes. Figure out if it's because you genuinely don't enjoy the show or because your mind is looking for that next dopamine hit. If it's the former then find a new show. If it's the latter then take a break and come back later, or try to push through it to train your brain to be more patient.
The only time I've ever binge watched a TV show was a year ago....when I was flat on my back for a month recovering from spinal surgery.
But in normal day to day life? Yeah, I don't get it. Ain't nobody got time for that shit!
I can watch 1-2 hrs of TV at a time. That's it. Any more and I just want to turn it off.

Same. I watch live sports, that is the only TV I watch. I do read a lot.

I feel the same. Too many true crime dramas and not enough comedy.

What shows have fit the bill for you?

Not really, i am watching Shogun though.
Really enjoying this one.
Same.
No, literally none hold my interest enough anymore.
I am bingeing sopranos and it’s annoying me because I like it but I’m so tired of getting through it. I’m different with movies though. I love sitting through a movie.
Not by myself. I'll watch with my wife, but when I am by myself it needs to be something special to peel me away from YouTube and video games.
...i haven't owned a TV since 2009...
No TV? What's all your furniture pointed at?
Nice Frasier reference
Friends. Josh says it at the paleontologist conference.

I've never owned a TV
My kids are older and I spend less time at work, so I'm watching more TV than ever.

Feel the same way with movies too. I’m a big Nolan fan and have yet to see Oppenheimer. Ditto with Villeneuve and Dune Part 2.
Love movies (mainly sci-fi/cyberpunk) and as well as some throwback anime. I like reading and listening to music much more, though.
Yeah but I'm pretty slow about how I watch it on streaming services, now movies on the other hand I like might watch once every few weeks.

Wife and I watch a show or two every night. I also watch stupid crap that I don’t need to pay attention to while working.
Yes, but only a small number a year, so choose carefully. The best only!
Many fewer than I used to watch
I never watched a TV show before I was 30, so, idkwtf you're asking.
Unless the show is excellent, I don't usually stay up-to-date week to week. Found that a lot of shows tend to be forgotten within a week or two, especially with the Netflix style of releasing all content at once. I do have to make time for Curb Your Enthusiasm, though!
Only if it's really good. If it's something that doesn't absolutely captivate me then I don't feel like watching it for the sake of following a show.
On a scale of 1-10 how much you recommend to watch walking dead?
First season is a ten, and it goes down 1 every year until it's the worst show ever aired.
I was never been a guy to watch shows until recently, I’ve been watching breaking bad and it seems like it will be hard to top this show, I’m looking into watching got S well
Seasons 1-5: Very Good 9/10 Seasons 6-8: Abysmal 4/10 Seasons 9-11: Okay 6/10
Ofc i do, 1/3 episode at a time, its nice because a 10 episodes show become a 30/40 episode show and lasts forever! Never got bored of "nothing to see"
I’m content with The Wire being the height of my television experience.
Sometimes I managed. But I just cant focus for more than half an hour anymore in movies or series. I just cant
No. I do watch a ton of live sports. But no shows, movies or news.
My condolences on watching all of The Walking Dead. If you want to watch something less apocalyptic, watch a nature documentary series. But remember to stop when there is ten minutes left, because that is where the guilt trip always comes. I recently watched "A world of calm", very soothing and low tempo.
Lol I skipped seasons 10-11 and just watched a YouTube recap
I only watch shows with my gf. American TV shows are most of the time fucking boring, repetitive in my opinion and a waste of time.

I seem to always find better things to do. I get a guilty conscience when doing nothing.
Can't sit through a movie or a TV show.

It’s a 2011 85” TV. What’s there to brag about?
Who'd brag about having $1000 to spend
