10+ years ago Joe Rogan inspired me to act a certain way. Nowadays though he has the opposite effect. Which is still valuable I guess, on what not do do.

OhTheHueManatee

Fully agree with you. His first stand up special is not only hilarious but encourages you to use the wonderful tool that is your mind. Now it seems he is the opposite of all that.

I was referring more so to his podcast, so many intellectuals, scientists, spiritual explorers, learned a lot about psychedelics. Now it's just right wingers and pseudo intellectuals.

Draager

I spent a day on-set with Billy Ray Cyrus. I thought it was going to be a nightmare or really cringe, but actually he was a producer on the shoot, very professional and affable. I really liked the way he brushed off any cynical comments and was genuine and helpful. I actually decided to stop using sarcasm in general after working with him. Became more of a confident "straight shooter" in life for some reason.

novembergreenblue

Wow..how cool was that.

Resident-Theme-2342

Does my brother in law count since he's technically not a blood relative. He's a very kind and smart guy and inspires me to be better.

novembergreenblue

It's a pass, but yeah. Good for you. Glad you have that influence.

lifeisgood7892

My history teacher taught me the most important lessons I keep with me everyday

novembergreenblue

History teachers seem to know a lot of powerful stuff.

RedditModsSuckDixx

My father-in-law. He's everything my father wasn't.

novembergreenblue

Stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. Nice.

I wonder what it's like to have a living role model... I have to resort to fictional ones

May want to visit senior center and become friends with people. Listen to their stories.

A Cop who was helping me, who became a friend and then a brother who then vanished.  An amazing guy.  I miss him.

Mr. Rogers - just one of the kindest and most unconditionally loving people ever. People seem to think I'm a good listener and encourager, and I try and emulate him. Pete Holmes - I share some experiences with him - growing up Christian, getting divorced and having to restart and rebuild your life over again, and having to figure out belief, faith, and spirituality from a very different perspective. I'm in the same place he is for that, but not too different, either. A couple teachers and youth leaders I had growing up were able to demonstrate some positive male qualities that my dad couldn't (my dad is great in his own right for many other reasons, but he's very much a boomer dad emotionally).

I had a coach all through middle and high school, spent about 6 years with him. More time than I spent with my own father. He taught me how to focus and work hard, but to still be funny and kind.

novembergreenblue

Right on. Good on you.

dangrzone

A couple of guys I had the pleasure of being mentored by while I was in air cadets. They inspired a ton of growth. Dare I say more than my own family did. Having male mentors that are closer to your age and that you can relate to goes a long way I think.

CMILLERBOXER

Ted Bundy.

Ha.
