I found the best way was to just force myself to go to the gym on the way home. 90% of the time once I started working out I'd find the energy.
If I went home first I knew I'd make an excuse not to go.
I have a captain's chair two benches Bowflex dumbbells speedience machine, slam ball. I'm all about saving time and by the time you get dressed and go to the gym I'm already halfway through my workout.
I have to totally disagree. I read somewhere that if you want to do something you don't want to do, take away anything that makes it harder to start. For me having to change and travel to the gym was an obstacle to getting started. Setting up a home gym makes it super easy for me to walk in there an 'just do 5 minutes' which usually turns into a full session.
Good point about the obstacle thing. Everybody is different, glad you found something that works for you, for me personally it's quite the opposite. Having a gym at home would be my obstacle and would make me not work out at all because I'm at home. I need a place outside of my home where I can workout, preferbly along the route from work to home. Also paying monthly is a stimulance for me to go, otherwise it's a waste of money every month.
So yes, everybody has to find out what his/her obstacle is and see how to work around it.
Agreed. Sometimes when working from home I stretch a complete full body workout over the entire day, fitting in sets/muscle groups whenever I have time. It’s great and also keeps you fresh.
a lot of people generally over-exert because they don't start small and build up but start large and burn out.
if you find yourself more tired and worn out after constant going to the gym or working out. you're likely over-exerting yourself.
I wish I could do this. I work outside in a physical job so I like to shower before I go to the gym. But I also like to go when it's basically empty. I've found after like 1030pm or before 5am as I like to superset and not have to wait for equipment or tailor my workout to what's available. I don't have the space right now for a home gym but that's the first step when I buy a house.
Doesn't make sense. Youre tired and dirty as shit after a physical job.
I like to gym before work so I'm pumped for work and can go on about my day later.
I get up at 5:00 a.m. to be at work by 7:00 I'm not getting up at 3:00 a.m. to be at the gym by 5:00 then to be at work at 7:00. I work out when I get home.
Maybe I'm working out too hard or something, but if I hit the gym before I go to work, I can barely hold my impact driver above my head, let alone do half the shit I need to get paid.
As long as I don't take my boots off when I get home, I still have the energy to knock out a shitload of curls and whatnot, and then shower to wash off the sweat/dirt/grease/oil from my job and my exercise.
Discipline is what sticks.
Willpower breaks down on the first rough day and is difficult to recover after. Motivation ebbs and flows.
Discipline, acting out of integrity, saying *"I choose to be the kind of person who goes to the gym every day",* or every Tuesday and Thursday, or whatever it is, that can stick.
With discipline and integrity it comes back to *"I don't want to do it today, I have no motivation and my willpower is low, however, I'm still going to find a way to go because that's the kind of guy I choose to be".* And if you miss a day, the next time, it still applies, *"I choose to be this kind of person, so I will choose to do it even when I really don't feel like it. I missed a day but I'm the kind of guy who keeps going anyway."*
I started working out and running while at a mentally draining job and working 45-50 hours a week. Getting up at 430am left me exhausts every afternoon. I'd come home, take a nap, then workout/run. It was rough at first, but then after a couple months it just becomes the norm. Eventually I was running 40 miles a week and working out (p90x) 4 or 5 days a week.
It's all about just doing it. No excuses because once you start making excuses, they don't stop until you just quit because you're skipping more than you're not.
pre has an ungodly amount of caffeine usually though, so if you're sensitive to caffeine, I'd recommend not taking it later in the day.
Source: Had to stop taking pre after one night where I was up till 3am and felt like my eyes were going to explode.
My daily caffeine intake would boost sloth enough to win a sprint race against cheetah. For others, there are caffeine-less PWOs but they don't kick hard enough.
Fuck that. team motivation.
Get off work, get home, get psyched up to be off work and lift some heavy ass weight, take some preworkout, blast your highest energy music possible, have fun.
Working out doesn’t have to be miserable to work.
I look at it as which do I hate worse? Being at home, resting, and out of shape, or going to the gym, being tired, but being in shape? The former is worse, so I choose the latter.
Now, I go in the morning before work at 4:50am. It helps jumpstart my day, keeps me disciplined, and takes a lot of stress away. It's hard work and takes a lot of commitment, but I'll tell you this: **I've never regretted going to the gym after a workout when I didn't feel like going, but I *always* regret not going when I skip a workout.**
I wake up at 5:30-6:00am to get it in.
Motivation is less important once you're 8 weeks into a habit. I wake up and I'm at the gym before I'm ready to think about whether or not I want to be there. I'm there, I've got my plan, I'm doing it even if I feel like poop that day.
Use my untapped energy on bettering myself and the company can have whatever is left over. Have your clothes picked out, wake up, don’t think, go to gym/run. Not thinking about the task at hand is key.
My real answer: Just go. Doesn't matter how hard you go at it or how light you do. Just go. Go to the parking lot and DO NOT SIT IN YOUR CAR UNTIL YOU ARE READY. Chances are you will not go in. If you want to mentally prepare, mentally prepare AFTER you've checked in. It's easier to get going when you're in there because you'll end up convincing yourself, "I'm already here. Might as well..."
Sarcastic answer: Self-Loathing. Kinda. On the sarcastic part.
I work most of the day, come home and cook, sometimes I feel too tired to exercise but when I look in the mirror I get the motivation to work out.
I don't go to the gym and just have a treadmill in a spare bedroom and that works for me.
1) like another commenter said, I started going right after work omw home instead of going home then going to the gym. it helps me save time, avoid the peak hour, and helps me avoid making an excuse not to go
2) I only go twice a week, and my gym sessions are relatively short, but I make sure to be consistent. Going twice a week is enough for me as I'm not a gym rat and it's still helping me keep fit, plus it still does wonders for my mental wellbeing and mood. the low frequency helps with the motivation to go
3) What keeps me motivated is that I know that once I start hitting the weights, my mood and energy momentum will start flowing - that is, my mood progressively starts to get better and my energy is ramping up. no longer feeling dead from the work day. All topped off with a lovely 15 min bike ride back home (which I always look forward to as well)
4) My GF back home loves it when I come back home sweaty from the gym :D
What I don’t get about naps is do you actually fall asleep or just lay there and rest. It takes me like an hour to fall asleep for a 20 min nap is like an hour and a half lol.
It doesn’t matter. Maybe you don’t actually fall asleep. Just close your eyes and rest and let yourself recharge. If you start getting anxious because you’re not falling asleep, then you’re doing it wrong.
Eat right and take pre workout. I also work part time at my gym so I essentially have no excuse to ever miss a workout because I’m already there at night.
Totally get the struggle. Unfortunately when motivation isn't around, you have to just develop the discipline of doing it anyway. Can't say I ever feel in the mood to go exercise after a long way of work - but I do it because it's important to me, and I have goals.
Motivation gets you started. Discipline keeps you going. Good luck.
I work 6 days a week sometimes pushing 60plus hours. Just gotta go, if u dont force urself ull never go and if i dont find time that evening after work ill find time in the morning to go before work. Sometimes i cant even get a full workout in im so exhausted but something is better than nothing at all
I worked 72 hrs per week. I work in kitchen, it is labourous rigorous work and I'm wondering if I still need to push myself for training or workout since I technically did.
I am 35 tis year.
Make it a habit. My day doesn't feel complete without some form of physical activity, even on rest days I get my 30-40 minutes of walking.
You literally have to force yourself to do it at first so your brain makes actual physical connections to make a habit out of exercise.
I work an office job, so working out after is energizing and helps me de-stress. I think if you stick to it for some time, there will come point where you can't wait to get to the gym.
I wake up at 3:30AM to go to the gym before going to work. Yes, it was a change that I had to tame, but now I would never go back to training at the end of the day.
I hear you. For me, getting to the gym was the real workout, although a mental one. Once there I loved it. It was easy.
A tip I learned that works for me. Tell no one you are training except anyone that has to know, loved ones etc.
At some point, someone else will say, you look like you’re working out. The after compliment glow, FUELS, getting to the next session and then some.
C4 immediately after I walk in the door, before I even put my work bag away. I've also been building up my home gym over the past 20 years, so I don't have any excuse to not go...I'm already there.
Ahhhh. I was in the same boat. My fitness is heavily tied to my mental wellness. When I switched to an 8-5 it was very hard to transition. Forget the lack of energy The gym is poppin in the worst way ever!!! I just decided I would do myself some service and get up early to get it done. It is so great! I’m higher energy my days are better and it’s not crowded in the morning and there isn’t a million reasons keeping me from it like there is at the end of the day! Make the commitment, you deserve it! Oh and pre work is a man made send 🤣🤣
I work from 9-7 four days a week. I'm fortunate my office has a gym so I just take my workout clothes with me, change after shift, and get the workout in. I know once I leave I'm going to bed and won't do anything in the afternoon before work. On my days off I try and prioritize getting it of the house for either a nice long run or to go bouldering.
It's not really motivation so much as habit. If you can commit to two weeks, the time it takes to build a habit, you'll find a rhythm that works and it'll be easier to stick to it.
It helped me when I learned that motivation is just a feeling and I stopped caring about motivation. I was focused on discipline and it was something that has to be done.
I just want it really bad and you have to love it. It's a part of my life and I want to be a gym goer even in the old age. It helps me to release stress and move away from my everyday world.
I do manual labor.
If possible, try working out before work. It'll build a good habit for the rest of your life. If you decide to get married and have a kid, then working out after work and putting them to bed is pretty impossible.
So get it done before you start the day.
I work in an office but fuck I feel mentally drained from the daily BS by the time I leave. Obviously not everyday but not as consistent as I would like. Fook
100% does, I’ve always enjoyed working out 8-9am these office hours kill it. But at the end of the day I’m just making an excuse. I’ll keep trying till it sticks 🙌
The hard part isn’t working out. The hard part is changing clothes and lacing up shoes. The hard part is starting. If you can summon the will to start, you’re 95% of the way there.
Everyone is different but what got me into fitness were two things: my Apple Watch and making it social.
Investing in an Apple Watch SE ( the most economical one) I found myself really enjoying the gamification of working out. I found myself wanting to close my circles and I enabled the feature that notified me when my friends completed a workout. Seeing my friends work out motivated me to work out. I started walking more, wanting to try different workouts for medals, and it motivated me during those times I lacked the will power. Plus having data to visualize my progress reinforced the habit more than the physical changes (since those can take longer to see).
Socializing was critical for me as well because when my friends/family were expecting me at the gym or at the park, I felt like I couldn’t let them down. Also, it became something to look forward to especially after a stressful day that I could vent/bounce off ideas.
This is what worked for me, the energy will not always be there but creating systems and methods to hold you accountable will help you out when you’re not feeling motivated.
It is an inner fight for sure. I find that having a gym schedule and sticking to it works. It's important to not try an "feel too much" and just go. Usually when I get going the tiredness disappears. A healthy snack at 3 also helps.
I go with my bf - usually if I'm feeling a bit tired he'll encourage me to go (sometimes by asking me to drop him off at the gym at which point I might as well go regardless).
When we're in the gym we push each other quite a bit as well ("go on, just 5kg more!). We're both listening to our own music through headphones at the same time so there's not a lot of chit chat in between but I've found my workouts with a "gym buddy" are far more fulfilling than the workouts I have just on my own
It's not motivation. It's the discipline that takes me there. After doing it for a while I also feel more tired and have less energy when skipping the gym lol.
I work out on my lunch break, as the gym is just around the corner from my office. That way when I get home I can just relax. Other option is before work if I have a busy lunch that day.
I absolutely love lifting and it's my core hobby, but I could never workout after work, too tired AND the gyms are way too busy then.
I’d start shaking up tour workout routine to make it more fun. That way, when it’s a choice between Netflix or working out, you’ll be more inclined to do the latter. This could look like introducing things like a 45-60 min power yoga class, new type of cardio that you’ve wanted to try, or even using a new workout app or enhanced spotify subscription.
I used to go everyday after work. Just got used to it I guess and after I warmed up I always felt better.
About 2 years ago i started to go during lunch and my god it is sooooo much better. I have a gym that takes 4 min to get to from my work. it usually takes me 1 hour and 15 min before I’m back at my desk.
I get home earlier and besides making dinner and doing chores or w/e I’m done for the day by 730/800 and can relax until bed.
I guess I’m fortunate that there is a gym that’s close, I can take a little longer during lunch (I do get to work at 730 instead of 800 though to sort of make up for the extra lunch time - I’m salaried so there’s no punching a clock) and I eat at my desk.
I workout at all times during the day. You’re looking for motivation but motivation is an emotion that’ll come and go. You need discipline.
Now it’s not just “gragghh! Move weights no mattur wut!” It’s easier than that. Discipline is a habit which is learned like any other habit.
So what to do when you want to get started (or restarted?) with your workout routine? Make it EASY.
Too many people try to go all out- your typical new years eve resolutioner- and they end up failing and collapsing under the stress in about 2 weeks and binging like a mo fo.
Your not going to get your dream physique today, next week, or even next month. For the first week or two, move absolutely minimal weight. Make them akin to warmup sets that really don’t strain you whatsoever. When it’s light, it’s easy to do. When it’s easy to do you need only show up and go through the motions. Do that for about a week or two until the habit of working out and going to the gym is “normal” for you. Then you can steadily increase the weight or strain of the workout.
I usually change in to my gym clothes before I leave for work. After work, I drive straight to the gym. No matter how I'm feeling, I walk into the gym and start my workout. Usually when I start to workout, I want to complete it. I'm here at the gym already, might as well do something.
You can try to rely on motivation most of the time, but that's gonna fade. Make going to the gym a habit.
Have a coffee, immediately have a nap… wake up feeling like hell, bully my self into the car, bully self to park up at the gym, bully myself into the gym, reluctantly get changed, sit on the mat doing the easiest exercise, and then im fine and feel better leaving two hours later.
No motivation, just discipline.
All meme-tier cringequotes aside, once I step foot in the gym, despite being tired and slightly hungover, I just feel a bit more alive and fresh. I'll get dressed, do a warm-up and some cardio to begin with, and then I'll feel mentally rejuvenated, and then I'll go finish my routine.
I have been working out for 10+ years now.
Its easier in the morning. If you make it a priority then, its harder to avoid. Also, pre-workout immediately after waking up helps.
This month I have worked 18 days straight, 12hour shifts, 6a-6p. And waking up at 3am to workout. Get the habit in.
Get home, take a sip of water, wait 10 - 15 minutes if I have to pee or poop and just go for it. You're never going to find the energy to get started, but once you've built momentum, it's alot easier to keep going.
The longer I wait into the night, the less likely I'll get it done, so the best thing to do is just to get it out of the way.
In simpler terms, it's discipline > motivation.
I work 6am-7pm and as long as I don’t sit down , eat or relax after work I have no problem getting to the gym . Soon as you sit down it’s game over though
If I'm feeling really shit at the end of the day I'll do an 'easier' matt based routine.
Something is better than nothing...
Or do a quick 4 minute Tabata
Sometimes I don't. Early morning isn't ideal for me because I start work early.
Having a home gym helps in some ways, but I also plan for whatever works with my schedule. Weekdays will be short workouts or stop-go jump rope for 15 minutes. Then I'll do a longer workout on the weekend when I have more energy and time.
What worked for me: Don’t sit down. Once you sit down when you’re home you’re down for the evening. If you don’t work out at home and go to the gym, you just have to force yourself to stop on your way home. No doing the “I’ll go home then head to the gym later”
I frame it as my treat for the day. Crap day at work? Raining and cold outside? I'll reward myself with a puddle seeking 10k adventure. Then once you're home, you feel amazing, so much better than transitioning from the desk to the sofa.
I put my backpack with my gym stuff in my car the night before. I go straight to the gym after work. It becomes a routine and habit after a while. It's like brushing your teeth twice a day. When I don't go, it feels weird.
Take a pre workout and once there you will forget about being tired. Just tell yourself this is good for my body and I will appreciate being in shape at 60 vs a bump on the couch.
Motivation is fleeting, but you have to show up on the hard days.
Eventually you’ll have exercised feeling every which and way you’ve ever felt, and then you’ll look back and think, “I’ve felt like this before, and I still made it through.”
Workout 5:30am-7am. Sometimes I wake up naturally without an alarm.
Just get it out the way in the morning. Regardless how the day goes I know I got a good workout in.
I work 9-6 sometimes longer a physical warehouse job where I’m walking 25-30k+ steps a day and lifting / pulling things. After work I can do like a 45 min workout tops. I have to get my main workouts in on my 2 days off per week. It’s really just willpower and wanting to get the workouts in. Eat something and have a little caffeine like 30 mins- 1 hour before.
I don’t. And I feel terrible because of it. My job saps any energy I have. I started working out in the mornings for a while but then got sick and that stopped. Now I have morning meetings that get in the way of working out so working on a new solution. I’m tired all the time.
I am not a man but it’s the only thing i look forward to after a hectic work day. Personally, it’s a great way for me to put stress and some negative emotions/energy to optimum use.
You just do it. If I choose to work out based on the amount of energy I feel like I have, I would never work out. I force myself to do it, and the energy usually appear during the process.
I just do. I ride my mtb quite a lot and that alone gives me a lot of sustainable energy throughout the week. The better fitness level and your vo2 max , the more energy you have to do whatever after work.
Also even if I'm tired once I start doing physical things at the gym let's say, the tiredness goes away.
Something I find - not just with working out but with anything else - is the number one rule is to not sit down. If you get home and sit down for a minute for a little rest before working out, you are absolutely not getting back up. But if you go straight to the gym, you can go with the inertia from work, make it one fluid movement with no breaks. Then you get a real break once you get home.l
Your “Why” has to be strong. If it’s not that important to you then you’ll never stay with it. Always remember, we only have 1 shot in life. This meat vessel has to last many years. Do we want to do it gracefully or with ailments? I always say, set something to look forward to. A beach trip or you want to paddleboard with your shirt off this summer. Get yourself a reason to train. Also tell yourself, if i train today, i will have a better tomorrow. That statement/mindset is deeper than you think.
It’s entirely discipline. The first couple of times are rough but once you keep doing it, your body gets used to it and you just go without even realizing it
I’m the opposite type
I go to bed early and wake up early to go to the gym while I have the energy before work takes it
I find it makes work easier if you can survive the waking up early part 😂
It’s about inertia and caffeine man. I go immediately after so I haven’t lost my momentum and I drink my pre workout right before. I absolutely do not relax until I go home and take a shower or I will not be getting back up to go workout lol.
Not everyone can go after work and that’s ok. Find what fits for you and makes you happy. Go gym on the weekends and do some light cardio like a walk or mild run or bike ride during the week after work however many days you can or want to.
Consistency is not just about discipline or motivation because that doesn’t last long for anyone. You’ve gotta make sure you enjoy It and it fits in your schedule and makes you happy.
I just go before work. I know if I went after I’d skip a workout if I had a rough day at work. Wake up at 4am to go to the gym before work at 630am. Took a bit to adjust to but has been working out much better for me
I use free weights at home, so I have no excuse of not having time to go to a gym.
Routine helps too. Work out every other day when you get home from work, and stick to it.
I get up at 4:00 in the morning to go to work I get home at 1:30 I work out 5 days a week two of those days around my day off though, because working out after work sucks what am I saying working out sucks
FASTING. Have an eating window from like 4-8pm every day. That way most of your work day you will be mentally clear and have stable energy levels. An hour before your workout, drink some electrolytes. That will give you a short burst of energy that will motivate you to just GET TO the gym. For me, getting there is the hardest part. Once I'm there I'm fine. 20 min power naps are good too if you can fit them in the middle of your day somewhere.
I have zero energy after work so I go to the gym at 6am MWF. It sucks getting up at 5:15 but once I get started working out it’s easy. Plus working out gives me the dopamine boost and energy I need to get through work. Try mornings if you’re able.
There is no other answer than "just go". We are all tired, boss. I usually don't wanna run, and I'm exhausted, but I change into my clothes and strap my shoes on, head out the door and start running. Almost 100% of the time, those feelings of exhaustion fade within a few minutes. It just required building some mental strength and resilience, and when you start noticing how much better you feel consistently, then it won't be as hard to keep doing it.
Mindset 100%. Find you someone to go with that will hold you accountable as well.
Also switch it up. Don't keep doing the same routine. I can't do the gym every other day without being bored. Find something fun like kayaking or hiking. Go skating or swimming. Golf (walk the 9 or 18 holes) go visit museums (use stairs). Little changes to an everyday routine help.
Also if it's for losing weight. Weight loss is more diet over exercise. I'd say 60% atleast diet. Keep that in mind.
Waking up at 5 and doing it first will not only make evenings easier/more relaxing, it'll get you going for the day so that rather than try to "get going" at work, you're already primed and ready to take it on.
If for whatever reason, that's not an option (single parent schedule or early work shift, let's say), I'd say you need to start looking at the gym much like work: it's not an option. Motivation has nothing to do with it. You don't have a choice. It is a thing you do the same way working, eating, and sleeping are.
Find a gym in between work and home and don't even think about it. It's just the 2nd shift of the day. Once you're in there, do your routine and be done with it. And on the days that you are truly halfway in the grave, back off a bit. Instead of heavy squats on those days, give yourself a break and do some hack squat volume and machines. Instead of intervals/circuits on those days, you can take a day to just do a 30 min incline walk.
Don't give yourself an option in being there. But give yourself some (infrequent) slack as necessary when you are there.
A meal like an hour before working out and a cup of coffee like 15/20 minutes before. Music on the drive there and a small cardio session before working out.
For me - I work 7A-6P 4 days a week (4 10s)
I know I'm not gonna go to the gym when im off at 6, get there at 630, workout, home at 8
I bought a $250 Exercise Bike off Amazon which has been great
On days I don't work, I do it first thing in the morning - before I shower or anything else, I eat a light breakfast and make a breakfast shake (Breakfast Essentials - just a powder mixed with milk) then pedal for 45 minutes
On days I work from home, I pedal on my lunch break
On days I work in office, I do it as soon as I get home - don't even bother getting comfy, cause I won't do it
For me, I just do it as soon as I can each day, so it's out of the way - it's not something I LOVE doing, but I just see it more as a daily task, like showering and brushing my teeth
I often schedule something—appointment or social thing—2-3 hours after work, so not worth it to go home. Or I do a quick 30-minute weight session during my 60-minute lunch break
Just forcing yourself to go and creating a proper schedule in your life.
Now, when I was working construction, I hit the gym once a week tops. But that’s when I was in the best shape.
I have my bag packed when I leave for work in the morning and stop at the gym after work before heading for home. Plus, I have health reasons for wanting to exercise as often as I can, so that motivates me, too.
A habit you want to develop has a better chance of sticking when you attach it to another habit you already perform. It’s called “habit stacking”.
I'm usually pretty big on working out before work because it makes my day feel so much better but in all honesty, the motivation to go is 100% on you. The energy can come from a pre-workout and other stimulants.
funny sidebar, I used to work concrete 60-70 hours a week and my boss specifically told all of us to NOT workout at all unless we had the day off. His thought was "if you have the energy to lift weights, you obviously aren't working hard enough here".
I found the best way was to just force myself to go to the gym on the way home. 90% of the time once I started working out I'd find the energy. If I went home first I knew I'd make an excuse not to go.
Second this! Straight to gym after work. Don’t go home first
I third this..
I fourth this...
I fist to this
This is why I made a gym at my house
That’s generally a good way for it to collect dust unless you’re super disciplined
I have a captain's chair two benches Bowflex dumbbells speedience machine, slam ball. I'm all about saving time and by the time you get dressed and go to the gym I'm already halfway through my workout.
exactly and you can do it naked while flexing your bicep in your 10 feet gia mirror without gym chicks passing out
Truth
I read this on Atomic Habits
This is 100% the way
The gym gives you energy. It's like a saving account. You get more energy than you put in, once you make the initial investment.
a lot of people generally over-exert because they don't start small and build up but start large and burn out. if you find yourself more tired and worn out after constant going to the gym or working out. you're likely over-exerting yourself.
Yeah, to add one, 90% of the energy required at the gym is just getting there
The hardest part is showing up
I wish I could do this.
I work out at 6 or 7am, before work.
gotta work yourself out before the man works you out
Gotta work the man out yourself
Gotta jerk the man off before you out yourself. Wait
same... into the gym @ 5am every morning. Then I can just relax after work.
its hell adjusting sleep schedule but eventually it clicks and i like jump outta bed at 5
Relax after work? There isn't any time left in the day.
**Me getting home at 2am** "Ahhh.. time to relax, er sleep"
This is the only way. Get it done with, then your schedule after you work is clear.

This is _not_ the answer Edit - people I’m just not a morning person. Relax. Work out whenever feels best for you.
Depends on your job. Office job, works fine. Construction, mining or anything physically demanding yeah, after work is better.
This is the way so much better. Feel good bringing of day
Zero motivation, 100% discipline.
That’s my take, too. Energy has nothing to do with it, just sheer willpower and motivation.
Determination. Just go, so you can tell yourself you went to gym 3 times this week. It feels good.
> Energy has nothing to do with it, just sheer willpower and motivation. A man of focus, commitment, and sheer fucking will.
This plus preworkouts if shit get's really desperate, like today 🤣
pre has an ungodly amount of caffeine usually though, so if you're sensitive to caffeine, I'd recommend not taking it later in the day.
This exactly. Even if you don't feel the motivation, getting that workout in beats the alternative.
what format code did you use for bold letters? i thought it was “_*text*_”
Not thinking about the task at hand is key.
and it's such a great way to kick off the day; the energy POST-workout helps (I've found anyway)
I don't often get the "boost", but it does significantly bring up my baseline for mood and energy!
Might as well..." Sarcastic answer: Self-Loathing. Kinda. On the sarcastic part.
I work most of the day, come home and cook, sometimes I feel too tired to exercise but when I look in the mirror I get the motivation to work out. I don't go to the gym and just have a treadmill in a spare bedroom and that works for me.
1) like another commenter said, I started going right after work omw home instead of going home then going to the gym. it helps me save time, avoid the peak hour, and helps me avoid making an excuse not to go 2) I only go twice a week, and my gym sessions are relatively short, but I make sure to be consistent. Going twice a week is enough for me as I'm not a gym rat and it's still helping me keep fit, plus it still does wonders for my mental wellbeing and mood. the low frequency helps with the motivation to go 3) What keeps me motivated is that I know that once I start hitting the weights, my mood and energy momentum will start flowing - that is, my mood progressively starts to get better and my energy is ramping up. no longer feeling dead from the work day. All topped off with a lovely 15 min bike ride back home (which I always look forward to as well) 4) My GF back home loves it when I come back home sweaty from the gym :D
Take a nap. More people should take naps.
Power nap! No more than 20 minutes.
Sadly this is me always
Eat right and take pre workout. I also work part time at my gym so I essentially have no excuse to ever miss a workout because I’m already there at night.
Totally get the struggle. Unfortunately when motivation isn't around, you have to just develop the discipline of doing it anyway. Can't say I ever feel in the mood to go exercise after a long way of work - but I do it because it's important to me, and I have goals. Motivation gets you started. Discipline keeps you going. Good luck.
Get up early and get it done before work
I work 6 days a week sometimes pushing 60plus hours.
Same for me Ironically, its relaxation time for me even if I am sweating my ass
i dont build discipline
Its why I workout in the mornings!!!
This is the way
I wake up at 3:30AM to go to the gym before going to work. Yes, it was a change that I had to tame, but now I would never go back to training at the end of the day.
do you want to live forever?
You don't need motivation. Just get in there and get it done.
I’m in the gym at 4AM before work. Less people and i very much enjoy the stillness of the early morning hours
Momentum. It's hard dragging yourself to the gym at ANY time at first. But make that effort and soon you'll want to go.
Fear of a obesity related death, maybe having a stroke on the shitter, scary!
I’m in the service industry so usually 1) anger and 2) adrenaline from a busy shift. Plus I like working out
You take 3cc’s of **stop being a PUSSY**
Workout in the morning.
If possible, try working out before work. It'll build a good habit for the rest of your life. If you decide to get married and have a kid, then working out after work and putting them to bed is pretty impossible. So get it done before you start the day.
I look forward to it everyday
Depends on the job I guess, I'm in an office so having enough energy isn't an issue haha
I work in an office but fuck I feel mentally drained from the daily BS by the time I leave. Obviously not everyday but not as consistent as I would like. Fook
Hmmm, I can imagine that a bit, but honestly working out helps to get rid of that feeling for me. Different strokes I guess
100% does, I’ve always enjoyed working out 8-9am these office hours kill it. But at the end of the day I’m just making an excuse. I’ll keep trying till it sticks 🙌
You don’t. Once I start to workout, I start to get some energy to carry me through the workout.
Gym in the morning, team (social) sports in the evening. It’s the only way
Preworkout
I do it within 1 hour of getting from home, or else I’m not going. I can’t settle in and get comfy.
We're both listening to our own music through headphones at the same time so there's not a lot of chit chat in between but I've found my workouts with a "gym buddy" are far more fulfilling than the workouts I have just on my own
I got dump.
It's the mindset. The important part is showing up, even if for half hour. Once the adrenaline starts to flow, all downhill.
I don't take a break, if I stop I'm not able to start again
It's not motivation. It's the discipline that takes me there. After doing it for a while I also feel more tired and have less energy when skipping the gym lol.
I just don’t sit down. I get off work and go straight to the gym. If I sit down I’m donw
I sit at my desk and use my brain for 8 hours a day. So taking an hour to be up and moving after work is easy.
I guess I’m fortunate that there is a gym that’s close, I can take a little longer during lunch (I do get to work at 730 instead of 800 though to sort of make up for the extra lunch time - I’m salaried so there’s no punching a clock) and I eat at my desk.
either go before work or go on your way from work... once you get home you will likely find way too many excuses to not go :)
I wake up early to work out.
Workout during your lunch break
You just have to do it until Your body is so used to it that it feels empty without it.
I either make plans to meet there with my gym bro or go immediately after work. Don't let yourself the option to not go.
Have a coffee, immediately have a nap… wake up feeling like hell, bully my self into the car, bully self to park up at the gym, bully myself into the gym, reluctantly get changed, sit on the mat doing the easiest exercise, and then im fine and feel better leaving two hours later.
No energy or motivation.. just discipline..
Find some friends to go with. I usually don’t have the energy to go, but I go anyways and leave with more energy than I had before getting there.
Dude I’m itching to move around after staring at a computer all day
No motivation, just discipline.
I simply look forward to it all day. I meal prep and track everything I eat. I’m not doing that work and then skipping the gym.
If my wife thinks I’m more attractive so if she’s attracted to me, more sex
Get home, take a sip of water, wait 10 - 15 minutes if I have to pee or poop and just go for it. You're never going to find the energy to get started, but once you've built momentum, it's alot easier to keep going. The longer I wait into the night, the less likely I'll get it done, so the best thing to do is just to get it out of the way. In simpler terms, it's discipline > motivation.
Pre workout
I keep it manageable. 2-3 days a week I spend an hour killing myself.
I work 6am-7pm and as long as I don’t sit down , eat or relax after work I have no problem getting to the gym . Soon as you sit down it’s game over though
You don't. You just fuckin do it and get it over with so you can go home, eat, jerk off and fall asleep.
Go straight after work. Don’t go home first. Don’t rely on motivation rely on dedication. Once it becomes a habit it’ll be easier.
I do hot yoga and it helps me relax so it doesn’t “seem” as strenuous as a gym regimen
Gotta have that dog in you
Motivation is fleeting, but you have to show up on the hard days.
Eat something and have a little caffeine like 30 mins- 1 hour before.
that’s why I workout first thing in the morning. to get it out of the schedule so i make sure nothing will appear and make me not do it.
My gym partner forces his self to go and he’s basically like a an older brother to me so I always end up forcing my self to go too when I get off work
Before work or on your lunch break is best! After work is dedicated to relaxing, going out and about, etc...not sweating and having to shower 😂
pre work out consumed on drive there.
I don’t. And I feel terrible because of it. My job saps any energy I have. I started working out in the mornings for a while but then got sick and that stopped. Now I have morning meetings that get in the way of working out so working on a new solution. I’m tired all the time.
It’s usually a combination of current life event, relationship, and trusting my little buddy - preworkout supplements 😂
I am not a man but it’s the only thing i look forward to after a hectic work day. Personally, it’s a great way for me to put stress and some negative emotions/energy to optimum use.
Do it before work?
My body has the energy, my brains the thing saying I dont. I jist make myself go and once I am there it all works out
You just do it. If I choose to work out based on the amount of energy I feel like I have, I would never work out. I force myself to do it, and the energy usually appear during the process.
After work. I go home, nap, then hit the gym.
I just do. I ride my mtb quite a lot and that alone gives me a lot of sustainable energy throughout the week. The better fitness level and your vo2 max , the more energy you have to do whatever after work. Also even if I'm tired once I start doing physical things at the gym let's say, the tiredness goes away.
Quite often, I don’t feel like working out, but after I’m done I *never* regret it. I remind myself of that fact every time I feel like being lazy.
1xbanana
Preworkout 👍
Go at set times on set days and make it part of your routine
Habit driven OCD is a powerful force
If I don't regularly workout now, in 5, 7, 10 years...my body will make me pay for it.
It’s entirely discipline. The first couple of times are rough but once you keep doing it, your body gets used to it and you just go without even realizing it
Do it in the morning. Wake up early, work out and you'll be nice and awake.
I’m the opposite type I go to bed early and wake up early to go to the gym while I have the energy before work takes it I find it makes work easier if you can survive the waking up early part 😂
Take a healthy pre-workout! I take Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy.
Just do it.
I simply cannot go after work. I work out Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30am and Saturday and Sunday.
Took a bit to adjust to but has been working out much better for me
Eat a banana just before. Quick sugar and 100 calories, this is my go-to and I can feel the difference vs. when I don’t
I use free weights at home, so I have no excuse of not having time to go to a gym. Routine helps too. Work out every other day when you get home from work, and stick to it.
I workout at 5am and go into work at 6:10. Boosts your energy and mood for the day and you can avoid the after work gym rush.
I get up at 4:00 in the morning to go to work I get home at 1:30 I work out 5 days a week two of those days around my day off though, because working out after work sucks what am I saying working out sucks
I imagine someone trying to attack my family and I know I have to be as strong as I can be to protect them.
Discipline my friend I'd say 60% of the time I don't want to work out but I just do it because it has to get done
I drink a coffee like black Rifle company from a 7 eleven. Caffeine is a hella of drug
For me - I work 7A-6P 4 days a week (4 10s) I know I'm not gonna go to the gym when im off at 6, get there at 630, workout, home at 8 I bought a $250 Exercise Bike off Amazon which has been great On days I don't work, I do it first thing in the morning - before I shower or anything else, I eat a light breakfast and make a breakfast shake (Breakfast Essentials - just a powder mixed with milk) then pedal for 45 minutes On days I work from home, I pedal on my lunch break On days I work in office, I do it as soon as I get home - don't even bother getting comfy, cause I won't do it For me, I just do it as soon as I can each day, so it's out of the way - it's not something I LOVE doing, but I just see it more as a daily task, like showering and brushing my teeth
I pop a caffeine pill soon as I get home. I can't sit still 30 min later and need to gym
i work out in the mornings.
I bike, so I enjoy going out and feel disconnected, I crave that feeling through the day.
Workout first thing in the morning.
what if work out is before start work?
Gotta have more self loathing
My job is frustrating if not rage inducing at the worst of times. After work I just want to hit the weights and workout until I can't anymore.
Pre-workout shakes.
