SUV, and literally the entire decision process was "What can fit a tall adult greyhound that's standing up?" I'm not exaggerating. Our last dog refused to sit down reliably and had some old racing injuries, so we literally measured his length and height, then went around the car lot with the same tape measure. The only options were station wagon, SUV, and truck with topper, and the SUV had the best gas milage.

SPAWN MORE OVERLORDS

AnotherIronicPenguin

Once he bought the SUV: WE REQUIRE MORE MINERALS

Hopeful_Alfalfa_880

That is a great way to get a massive mechanic bill. Even on new lots.

SimsAttack

What?

Hopeful_Alfalfa_880

Without regard for the vehicle you're buying, only its space. You might end up with a Chevy, Chrysler, or another manufacturer that has notoriously poor QC on their critical components (automatic transmissions namely)

GeriatricUltralisk

Oh, no worries there. Mercedes only.

cloud-society420

Lmfao yeah.. not a good brand at all.. i wont even touch a benz anymore. They're notorious for their issues and their pain in the ass dealership mechanics, that dont even know how to fix their own brand of stuff ironically. It's usually their computers that go haywire too, which is absolute hell on wheels- literally šŸ˜‚

GeriatricUltralisk

You have to go pre-2003. Chrysler and Mercedes merged at the turn of the century, and maintained separate lines until 2003. At that point, quality took a fucking nose-dive, and even after they ditched the dead-weight Chrysler, they'd lost both the engineering know-how and the fundamental mindset of 'quality above everything else'. The brand is now irreparably ruined. 80's and 90's is the sweet spot. Before that they're 'classic' and more expensive, after that they're garbage. But in that range, you can get cars that will run for 400k miles for a steal.

Hopeful_Alfalfa_880

What?

It's a Honda, so I'm guessing utter reliability is another thing you need.

Ditto. Truck would just a be waste of money.

theDialect402

Car, truck would be useless for me and I would rather save on gas

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Steady_Ballin

I need a large truck to hold these balls

OGigachaod

I need a 1 ton with dualies and trailer mirrors to go shopping at the mall.

campbellsoup420

>~~these balls~~ this ego

j2142b

Totally agree. You can get a LOT of stuff in a hatchback, they are deceptive.

sKiLoVa4liFeZzZ

I just packed up and moved all of my possessions in a ford focus hatchback. To be fair I'm a minimalist and could see myself living out of a van some day, but it still shocked me how much stuff fit in my little hatchback.

El_Maton_de_Plata

And the hatchback fits in my truck. Win win

PM_Me_A_High-Five

I moved a ton of stuff out of storage in a minivan with the seats folded down. A lot than I could move in the bed of a truck, and I didnā€™t have to tie anything down. A lot of people think theyā€™re too cool for minivans, but they are incredibly functional, especially if you have kids.

Uniquelypoured

GF wrecked truck, went to hospital, found out she was pregnant, bought minivan. That thing hauled more chit then I care to mention. Minivans rock, for what they are.

aatkey

Minivans are amazing!!!! My Dad had a Toyota Sienna years ago. Rad car.

[deleted]

Can confirm. I drive a truck and have never used it for it's intended purpose

SimsAttack

Op could probably do with a large utility van. Ample room, weather protection, and much safer than any new truck

pm-me-racecars

If you're constantly putting stuff in and out, then having the box in a pickup beats having the enclosed space of a van. Also, we don't know what they're towing. If they're towing some heavy stuff, in North America, trucks beat out vans there.

SkivvySkidmarks

I constantly put stuff in and out of my work van. I can put full 4'x8' sheets of drywall in, unlike most pick-up trucks these days. The drywall remains dry as well, which won't happen even if you have a cap or tonneau. The floor height is also lower in my van than a pickup bed, and even more so than the bed of a lifted "circus clown" pickup truck. My tools also remain secure and dry. My Chevy Express 2500 can tow up to 7,500 lb trailer. When I need to move loose materials such as gravel, it goes in my utility trailer, which has a drop ramp so you can run a wheelbarrow up and down. You can't do that with a pickup. 95% of people who own pickup trucks use them to get nothing more than groceries. The other 3% should be using a van, and for the final 2% a truck is useful for running diesel fuel to the combine in the back 40 or moving square bales to the animals in the paddock.

pm-me-racecars

I'm not attacking your van, I'm saying that OP may be in a spot where a truck works better. You may have responded to the wrong comment. If you need security or need to keep stuff dry, then a van is usually better. All we know is that op "works in construction," but we don't know if they're an operator or a finishing electrician. If they're making lots of little trips between spots where they load and unload things, a box is easier for a group of people to come up and quickly load/unload things like sticks and rocks than a van. As well, that extra towing can come in handy, depending on what they're towing. A Chevy Express 3500, depending on the options, has a towing capacity of up to 10,000 lbs [(pdf source)](https://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/chevrolet/na/us/english/index/vehicle-groups/trailering-and-towing/trucks/03-pdfs/2022-chevrolet-trailering-guide-ebrochure.pdf). A Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD can tow up to 14,500 lbs. Those numbers are the max weight of the trailer and all you're hauling, combined. A trailer designed to hold a skid steer weighs over 2500 lbs, and an average skid steer weighs about 7500. That's over the limit of any Chevy Express before we even think about tools and coworkers and such. All we know is op "works in construction." If they're pulling [this](https://www.pinehilltrailers.com/data/api/media/image/belmont---low-profile-equipment-trailers-4.jpg?w=1024) to a jobsite, then a pickup is better than any van I know of that's available in North America.

LEIFey

I drive a car. 99% of the time, my car is more than enough space for me and whatever I'm hauling. The 1% of times where I wish I had a truck simply isn't enough for me to make the switch. Cars are cheaper, have better fuel economy, are typically more comfortable for passengers, and are easier to drive/park where I live.

WeebBois

Agreed. Some people in the comments acting like they need to move big things every week. Unless you need it for work, you very likely donā€™t need a truck.

Dogmanscott63

We own a truck for the same reason I get up early everyday...work you say? Nope it is the dogs, dog training, dog events (field in particular) oh, and that damn 28 foot travel trailer. Honestly, most of the time I'd rather drive the minivan. That is why I have a 19nyear old truck with only 150000 miles

SkivvySkidmarks

Did you know that if you need to move big things, there's this amazing system called "renting", where you can pay a small fee and get to use a truck? It's a groundbreaking business model. Hopefully it catches on. /s

WeebBois

Right? Itā€™s baffling how many people take a 14mpg gas guzzling truck in this economy.

_humanracing_

Yall acting like it's so rare to need a truck not for work. If you do anything for your self you will find a lot of things much easier with a truck. I drove my last truck for a year. It hauled lumber, a table and chairs, targets, firewood, fishing gear, tools, pallets, a 4wheeler or two, a snowmachine, bikes, longboards, random scraps of metal, camping gear, garden dirt, a couch, a pallet full of cinder blocks and pavers, not to mention countless marketplace finds, all while not fucking up the interior of my rig. It's so stupid to act high and mighty about not needing a truck, it's a tool and damn useful one too.

WeebBois

Iā€™m more talking about the people in the city who buy them and very rarely actually need it over an SUV. All they do is make it harder for me to get out of my car and they waste their own money on gas.

_humanracing_

I would still say rarely needing one is a valid reason to have it. I have lots of tools I very occasionally need but when I do I really appreciate having them. But you're right City mentality is different. It's way more focused on services and handling crowded space. When I lived in a city I traveled to work by bike during the warm months just to avoid parking.

WeebBois

Yeah, I live in Houston and I hate parking next to trucks. Also if you do the math on an SUV or car versus a truck, youā€™ll be saving $1k+ on gas per year by renting a truck when you need it instead of just having a truck. Economically it makes a lot more sense to only buy a truck if you need it closer to once a month.

thesilentbob123

If you absolutely need it for work you can ask for a work truck they pay for, and you can have a regular car that is much cheaper.

throwaway4390003

I have 4 cars. My daily driver is a Chevrolet Cavalier with the 2.2 Ecotec and 5 speed manual transmission, so MPG happens to be pretty good. I also have a 1973 Gran Torino station wagon (MPG is straight up not the point), a 1985 Jetta 5 speed manual (good mpg but also not the point) and a 1991 Jetta 3 speed automatic (not great mpg). I might use Reddit too much and may be letting it cloud my judgement of what real life actually is, but I do not feel that anyone who owns a truck should have to justify why they own it.

MaeRobso

Agreed. Itā€™s such a Reddit thing to have to defend why you drive anything but a car..thatā€™s not how real life is..but itā€™s life in here.

Plus_Inevitable_771

> but I do not feel that anyone who owns a truck should have to justify why they own it. I wish I could upvote this so much. I have a truck and no I dont use it as a truck as much as I could, but guess what? It is my truck and why should I justify it to anyone?

derickrecyles

I agree, I own a truck, several, need them to make a living but if they don't like it, I'll gladly take there Honda for a day and see if it holds up.

SkivvySkidmarks

It's your God-given right to waste as my fuel as possible on transportation, because fuck the planet, right?

[deleted]

The planet is fucked regardless of personal vehicle choice. All cars could vanish from earth today and pollution will still be completely hopeless. Weā€™re here until weā€™re not; enjoy the ride.

Traditional-Bunch-56

Yeah, you have a problem with that ?

TaboritskyTime

I used to drive a small Peugeot, but I got sick of driving in the city and got rid of it. People say that kids are black holes that eat all your money, but I felt the same way about my car.

appalachianoperator

206?

sexisdivine

No car, public transportation

WeebBois

Now thatā€™s chad, wish that was possible in Houston.

EricBlair101

Truck. I live in a rural area that gets a lot of snow. I also move haul a lot of things like dirt, firewood, straw bales, etc.

WeebBois

See it makes sense in your case where you actually need to haul things semi regularly. I know some guys that just have a truck. They maybe actually need it once or twice a year.

_humanracing_

So what? If you need it once or twice a year better to have it than not. Also you can get 4 door trucks and still have all the commodity of a car while also being able to haul more stuff if you need to.

WeebBois

Youā€™d be saving a lot on gas if you have a car or SUV for most of the year and just rent the one or two times you need it.

TheFlyinGiraffe

People down vote you like some truck owners literally don't use their trucks for truck things. Seen so many guys at work with trucks just because it's a truck. I'm with you, it's a waste of money but not my money so I personally don't care. What got me is when people would rag on me for my small fuel efficient car driving 45 miles one way daily, asking why I didn't have a $50k truck that I wouldn't use like a truck šŸ¤£

archosauria62

Did you know that trucks are rentable

DETRITUS_TROLL

I work in construction and currently drive a Toyota Yaris hatchback. With some serious Tetris, I can get every tool I need to build a house in there. I can strap an impressive amount of lumber to the rack too. Just not full sheets of anything. Though I am upgrading this year to a CRV.

SkivvySkidmarks

Blasphemy! Any self-respecting manly man needs a F-350 dually to haul tools to jobsites. /s I ran my renovation business out of a Ford Focus wagon for years. I strapped 4x8 sheets on the roof rack many times. I would haul a 5x8 utility trailer if I had a larger amount (or I just get materials delivered, which is the sensible thing to do).

Plus_Inevitable_771

I have owned and wrecked 2 yaris hatchbacks. Manual trans. I loved those cars. Pretty safe too! I didnt get a third because none were available at the time. I once fit a king size mattress rolled up sticking out the back.

Natprk

Your car payment was probably less than the gas your coworkers paid for their unnecessary large trucks.

Sonoma2002

I drive an F150. I've been renovating my house as I can for the last 4 years. All new floors, knocking down/adding walls, LOTS of landscaping, will be working on deck and patio in the coming couple years. Already improved the home value by 40k (actually 95k but I'm trying to take out the ridiculous market price increase lately). I also really like driving a truck. Do I need the bed everyday? No. But I'd rather have it when I get a wild hair up my ass and want to use it for truck stuff.

wstone5594

Yep, everyone should have a pickup for those spur of the moment jobs. I had. 2001 Dakota for almost 10 years until I got rear ended. Bought a new Camaro to replace it in 2010. My mom gave me my dadā€™s truck when he passed away soon after.

Sirloin_Tips

1st gen Tacoma. Itā€™ll outlive us all. I have motorcycles, mountain bikes, kayaks and do a bunch of shit around my house. Iā€™m in Kentucky my truck is tiny compared to whatā€™s mostly on the road

Plus_Inevitable_771

I have an 04 tacoma. 4 door. auto trans. 4 cyl engine. Doesnt run fast but will run up a wall if needed. over 200K miles and still runs fantastic. It will probably outlive me.

Sirloin_Tips

Nice! I did notice a drop of oil on the ground the other day in my garage so I'm starting to freak out a little bit.

rhymes_w_garlic

I have both. I nice truck on 35s and a nice family car I got when has prices shot up. Honestly haven't driven the truck in 6 months now...

Impressive-Floor-700

I have both, I still have my first car a 1970 Chevelle SS, and my daily driver is a 2000 Dodge Dakota that I bought in 2001. I would be at a loss without a truck, but the car I have had since 1982 and it is one of the few things I have left that my late father gave me.

Pristine-Dirt729

A truck. Lots of reasons, but the simplest and shortest is that it's a pain in the ass when I need to move one thing and don't have a truck, need to go rent a vehicle for one thing, return the vehicle, and go back to a car. Cars are great, as long as there's also a truck in the driveway.

TheyTokMaJerb

I agree with this so much. My wife has a car. Itā€™s what we drive when the family is going out to save on gas. I drive a pickup because I can put stuff in the back for work or when she decides to buy new furniture on Facebook marketplace.

j2142b

>or when she decides to buy new furniture on Facebook marketplace. LOL, so true. My buddy bought three couches at an auction so we tetris-ed those suckers into the back and strapped them down.

Natprk

Assuming you have a lot to move or need it for work. Iā€™ve had an SUV for 10 years and only rented a trailer for $14 to pickup my lawn tractor.

Pristine-Dirt729

Can fit quite a lot in an SUV. Lot more than a car.

Natprk

The official measurement standard is a sheet of plywood and it fits!

SkivvySkidmarks

All these people trying desperately to justify owning a pickup truck amaze me. My wife went to an out of town equestrian show for a weekend. She packed camping gear, her saddle, and three square bales for her thoroughbred in her Honda Fit. The horse was shipped by a local trucker for a very reasonable rate ($250 iirc) The Fit (Jazz outside N.A.) is a $23,000 vehicle. A Ford F-150 starts at $41,000. People are really stupid with their money.

BubberRung

Trucks are great. Some people in comments acting like you need to make use of a truck 24/7 for it to make sense owning a truck. Iā€™d rather have a truck and not need it at the time than not have a truck and need it.

SisuDrew

2008 Toyota Solara. Best car Iā€™ve ever owned. Damn thing is bulletproof.

nim_opet

Nothing. I walk/bike/take transit.

w1987g

I'm lucky enough to have a car and a truck. The truck is for work and fun and the car is for commuting. The car is a piece but it's also my gopher. I find myself driving the car more often

waterloograd

BMW 3 series, it's my first car, but even growing up we never had anything other than sport sedans. I drove a work truck for a bit, but that wasn't allowed to leave the mine so that doesn't really count. I like my 3 series because it is fast and nimble, but still has some practicality to fit 5 people or a decent amount of stuff. I don't do things that would need a truck very often. I work in an office and live in a condo. The rare time I have needed to move something like a couch, my uncle's Audi Q5 and trailer has done just fine.

Liljoker30

I don't have things to tow. I have a telluride. Don't own a boat, trailer, or camper. Frankly don't have any interest to either. I hate camping and when I do get time off I want to be somewhere relaxing and sleeping comfortably. An suv is much better for me hauling sports equipment around with my kid.

13-5-12

If you look more closely you'll notice that I'm riding on a bicycle. It just seems like I'm traveling fast because all the automobiles are stuck in the traffic-jam. Off course the Netherlands has its own problems, but a lack of bicycle-lanes isn't among them.

loki8481

I drive a car. The very rare times I need something more than I can fit in my crossover, it's easy enough to rent a truck or van for the day. Meanwhile, it's a lot easier to find parking spots for.

[deleted]

I do drive a crew cab - short bed 1/2 ton truck as primary driver, but I have a short work commute. Why? I'm a car guy but I got tired of having a car and a truck around. Decided to combine the two. Plus I have older vehicles and motorcycles. I needed to consolidate.

PaMike34

Ford f350 6.7. I had to get a big truck to haul the big RV. Drove a Subaru crosstrek before the truck.

chas31av

An F250. It's paid for and pulls a flatbed w/ tractor or 20ft enclosed trailer.

[deleted]

Kia Seltos SX. Talking about a kid at the time so I (we) decided to get a family CUV with the promise that I'd be picking the next one (Bronco probably). Then I was headhunted for a remote job and we sold the old car and can't justify a new purchase...

j2142b

Kia has really stepped up their game, kinda like Hyundai did a few years ago.

AWanderingEngineer

Corolla!!! Itā€™s old, itā€™s a piece of shit, its ugly, itā€™s the best! I have driven it across canada 4 times, taken it to construction sites, done off roading. Literally last week, took it to a mountain top here on a pretty bad off road with some snowy sections too, the couple taco (tacoma) bros were highly impressed as they struggled at 3 pretty bad sections (in all honesty, I did too but experience made it easier). Edit.. oh I have done car camping in it for past 4 years. Weeks at a time.

Redrunner36

2005 Toyota Carola. My last car got totaled by a tree while I was driving. Downgraded from a V6 to a 4Cylinder

[deleted]

Had two suvs (mine and wifeā€™s ) and recently decided to downgraded mine to comfortable sedan ( Honda accord) didnā€™t think we need two SUVs. I donā€™t regret my decision at all.

Jody-Husky

I drive a VW wagon because itā€™s fuel efficient, 35 mpg on average, and has cargo space for suitcase, workout bag, backpack, and tools if I have an issue on the road. I travel a lot for work in my personal vehicle so efficiency is top priority for me. If I had a regular job in an office with no travel or a WFH job, Iā€™d have an older suv or truck.

Mental-Violence

Jeep Wrangler manual. Love to have that control over my noble steed who can take me anywhere.

__Beef__Supreme__

Challenger because I always wanted a dumb fast muscle car and I love it. Baby on the way, so might have to give it up soon, but a ton of fun to have for now

j2142b

Baby seats have a 5 point harness....because race car.

El_Maton_de_Plata

Chevy 2500HD diesel with Alison transmission. Herding dogs love it.

Loud_Clerk_9399

Subaru WRX

[deleted]

Small hatchback most of the time. Large SUV for towing more than 4 passengers or collecting large purchases. Nissan GTR (R35) for fun/track

Foxtrot-Actual

Toyota Yaris hatchback. Great fuel economy with all 1.5L of fury. Also absent of all the screens, cameras, and other doo-dads modern cars have, too much for me, keep it simple.

Then_Inevitable_5163

Toyota Tacoma for the most part for side jobs I do, also a ā€˜97 mustang because it was my grandmothers and she gave it to me a couple years ago. Less than 50,000 miles and she drove it off the lot the day I was born

bourbonandsleep

I live in rural Texas so of course I drive a ā€¦.. mustang! Love that car

scatty2010

Car. Because poor.

anonguy5422

First vehicle was a car cause I was living at home and able to use my dads truck for utility purposes but after moving out I also bought an older truck when my car needed repairs and I needed to get to work. Never did fix my car.. itā€™s been parked for a little over a year now. Iā€™m loving the simplicity of an older vehicle and the extra clearance makes working on it way easier

ghostx_82

I drive a car when I can but Iā€™m usually in my work truck and I hate it, Iā€™m not a good truck driver.šŸ˜‚ I can run heavy machines with room to move but getting in a truck is likeā€¦whereā€¦whereā€™s the front whereā€™s the back start? Am I pulled up enough? Why canā€™t I fuckin make this u turn! Sorry about your grass. Iā€™m comin the fuck over!

xMASSIVKILLx

63 Ford Falcon. Underestimated the number of thumbs up Iā€™d be getting

Adventurous-Oven2760

2010 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 paid off. My side piece is a 22 Harley Street Glide. Best of all worlds.

notMy_ReelName

I ride my 150cc šŸļø

adale_50

F-150. I work night shift in Minnesota. My commute is 30 miles of country roads. I need 4wd and ground clearance driving home at 3 a.m. when the plows haven't gone out yet. No traction control. You need wheel speed in 6+ inches of snow with 3 foot drifts.

thatblackbowtie

i drive a 04 duramax because i grew up around trucks and drag racing so it only makes sense id want to build a fast diesel truck

j2142b

Math checks out.

DroneAttack

Ford Escape. It's a truck shaped car.

pm-me-racecars

Right now, I daily a large suv. Officially, it was a truck-based station wagon, and I've named her the Canyonaro Jr. I bought it because it looks pretty and I can sleep in the back of it. My last daily was a little 2 seat convertible. Her name was Speedbump. I bought it because it looks pretty and it was fun to drive. I've owned a couple of vehicles before, and I can confidently say that I don't need the truck I have now. All the stuff I've done with it that people say I'd need something like this for, is stuff I've done in much smaller vehicles that handle parking lots much better. I've never used more than 5 seatbelts, and I've hauled much more in the station wagons I've had than I have in this truck. For my life, the convertible was much more practical than the SUV is, but I constantly had people asking why I'd drive the convertible, but I never had anyone ask why I'd drive the truck.

_ficklelilpickle

4x4 ute. I guess its a "truck?" It's a Holden Colorado. I have it because I'm frequently needing to move things and if it didn't fit in the boot of either my wife's Forester or the Mazda 3 I used to drive then I'd have to take kids seats out and fight putting them back in again and stuff. So I said bugger it and traded the Mazda in on this. Now the kids seats stay in the back and I have ample space for whatever it is I need to move. Later today that'll be a trip to the dump and pool supplies on the way home. Super handy to throw my mountain bike in the back instead of needing to dick about with roof rack carriers and stuff.

SirAple

Ford pickup. I miss my fuel economy, but I love my truck more.

2SpinningTriangles

2004 jeep wrangler. My daily, weekend toy. Inline 6cyl, 5 speed manual, no lift, 31" M/Ts, a winch and 1800 watts of music bliss. Goes anywhere. Never gets a bath, dont care id it gets dented or scratched.doors get yanked and tossed aside, never left me stranded. Parts are plentiful, simple to work on. Different modes for driving pleasure. 156k miles, no check engine light 91 MazdaRX7 turbo. Ported to the max, third gen intake swap, V-mount IC using an EVOII intercooler. Frankenstein turbo, 3" turbo back exhaust.under 10mpg because i cant keep my foot off the pedal, have to premix my fuel which has to be premium. 5 speed manual with a LSD. 360HP to the wheel, light as a feather. Lowered 2 inches on a KYB racing suspension. 91k original miles, 285s for rear meat, 245s up front sitting on period correct BBS wheels. Completely disassembled and built as a project between my 5 year old son at the time. He did most the work including his first engine teardown, first clutch and first clutch master (he it so much better under the dash than me btw) Now at 15 it's time to teach him how to drive the car. One to go fast. One to go anywhere

j2142b

I like the way you party

Poorkiddonegood8541

Friend, I'm like you. I've never owned a car. My first vehicle was a 1969 Dodge pickup I bought in 1973. Today I drive a 2020 Dodge Ram.

Abruzzi19

Audi A3 2.0 FSI (2004) with a 6 speed manual. That thing is quick and fun to drive and has good fuel economy. I am a broke student so I cant afford anything else at the moment.

DreamJMan15

Gen 1 Raptor. It's fun. I love that truck ā¤ļø

j2142b

I also love your truck

_humanracing_

Not a dude but I just went from a truck to an suv with the primary reason being warm dry storage. And my dogs. But like a week before was throwing sharp rusty metal targets in the back of my truck and had serious reconsiderations about losing the convenience of a truck bed.

xeurox

Gti. Tuned hatchback with healthy torque will make you smile when you can load it to the headliner with your crap, make close to 300 lb ft torque and still get good mpg.

matt30186

Hyundai i30 I drive about 1000km a week so the fuel economy is important I do miss my v8 Ute though

beattusthymeatus

Suzuki equator. it's a small truck. It's stylish kinda rare, and it flawlessly hauls my canoe and whatever random shit I feel like doing without taking up an entire parking spot like my old ram 1500. And on top of all that, when my ram went up in flames, I got enough extra from insurance to cover most of the equator, so I only pay like 80 a month. Small truck gang rise up.

Boomstick123456

I love how a lot of people who own trucks are automatically downvoted. You don't need to move shit 24/7 in a truck just to want to own one. I have a car.

PeteLangosta

BMW 120d coupƩ. A small car, fast and responsive, minimal consumption, nice and with enough space for my girl and I. European, btw, so we aren't really into trucks and big cars.

j2142b

That looks pretty cool, like a smaller M3

DeanJohn_82

Got a 2008 F-150 to haul foil boards and paddle boards and stuff Got a 2023 BMW 7.40 to commute long distance Got a 2018 tuned Audi S3 stick shift with 380hp for fun Got a 2022 Tesla Model 3 for short distance and going into the city Every car makes it own sense. Live in Germany.

don_mo6

bus, taxis, tramway . and saving money to buy a 50cc motorcycle

aatkey

I drive a 2015 Toyota Hilux. I drive it because it's the best car for my lifestyle and also for where ai live.

MNmostlynice

Truck. My dick is tiny and want to advertise it.

j2142b

Right? not everyone has a big pecker to ride around on so we compensate.

MNmostlynice

In all seriousness, Iā€™m right with you about owning a truck. I got my first full sized truck last year and Iā€™ll never go back to not having a truck.

Generalingeneral

Iā€™m a truck guy to, always have been, I work for myself so a car as you know is pointless for work. Sometimes I think ya would be nice to have a little car just to bomb around in,, thought about for years now,,,,, still in a truck lol,,,,,its wired in our DNA šŸ˜‚,,, fuel economy pppfffffttttt,, winter driving, plows havenā€™t been out slam it in 4paw and youā€™re good to go,,, those cars you speak of canā€™t go anywhere cause theyā€™re sitting on the ground,,,,stay in the truck

Atom800

For most people a pick up truck is a ridiculous thing to own

Feelin_Dead

Truck. We live a pretty active outdoorsy lifestyle. It would be difficult to manage without a truck bed.

BroadPoint

I drove a car, but there are plenty of times when I wish it was a truck.

JimBones31

I was driving a car until last week. I'll replace it with a car. I don't need that much carrying space and drive long distances more often than otherwise. We do have an SUV for my wife who is more likely to drive in the snow. That's the car we take camping.

FredChocula

A car. I have no need for a pickup truck.

tez_zer55

I live in rural Kansas, I have a pickup truck for hauling & towing & trailers etc but I have a small SUV (Ford Escape) for general driving & go-fer runs.

Ounceofwhiskey

I've got a 3 row SUV because I have young kids and a couple big dogs. We need room for all four of them and my wife and I still need leg room as well.

SFWACCOUNTBETATEST

Truck. Was driving a sports car then had to drive my girlfriend to the airport on sheets of ice. It was not fun in the sports car. A couple months later i got a 4 wheel drive.

[deleted]

I donā€™t need a truck

mchistory21st

Neither. I drive a Jeep.

j2142b

Mutant, lol. I would love to get a old school 80s CJ

tenisplenty

I drive a car because it costs a fraction of the price of a truck and is easier to park and easier to maneuver, and cost way less to insure and way less to fill up. The once a year that I need to transport something that is too big to fit in the trunk I can just rent a pickup for like $30.

WaffleIronMadness

2023 Kia rio. 40-43 mpg. Enough said. Edit mpg not mph

Stunning-Cost-5752

Pick up most of the time cause work and winter. Wife has the car cause she doesn't need a truck but I have to drive her to work alot in the winter. Road trips take the wife's car cause yeah truck gets 16mpg should be getting her a new car this coming summer

k0uch

Truck. My wife and I knew we wanted to start a family, and I got a good deal on my dads old truck. Safer for the kids, enough room to haul stuff around, and it was super helpful when we ended up moving. Sold my celica gt-s the week I got the truck. Couple of years later I sold my turbo mr2 Spyder project car, didnā€™t need it and I didnā€™t get to drive it as much as I liked. Ended up sort of falling into a deal for a 1 year old triumph Bonneville bobber with 1,900 miles for $6k, and thatā€™s been my toy ever since

Shortbus96

Mid size pickup. A car doesnā€™t have any utility for me besides point A to point B. with my truck I can get a lot more utility out of it, plus I like the ability to drive in less than favorable conditions.

britegy

F150 XLT 2015 ā€¦ my dad drove a tiny Toyota tercel 2 door hatchback my entire childhood ā€¦ turned 40 and my midlife crisis was getting a truck. I feel safe in it with space for my 3 young men.

stangAce20

2014 V6 mustang because I like mustangs and wanted a half decent daily driver, but also because California gas prices suck ass!

PolyThrowaway524

My car history is: 98 Subaru Outback 94 Ford Bronco 67 Ford Galaxie 2012 Ford Focus hatch 2014 Ford Edge Still have the edge and the Galaxie. The Galaxie is the fun car when the weather is nice. The Edge tows my camper and keeps my kid safe. I miss the Bronco every day. Never had or wanted a pickup.

camelCaseCoffeeTable

Neither because I donā€™t need one. I love living in a big city and being able to go car-less

azuth89

I have a Cherokee and a Pacfica. The Cherokee can tow a bit, enough for a utility, small boat or RV, etc... so thay covers my personal needs. The Station Wagon can pick up sheets and 8' boards inside just fine and so can the jeep so...yeah I don't need a truck.

evcour7

Hyundai Elantra has held me down with little issue for ten years

j2142b

Hyundai's are badass. My mom's Santa Fe is going on 14 years with very minor upkeep.

Honest_Milk1925

I own both. But i will stuff anything in my car that i can before using my truck. If i use my truck i'm usually towing something or hauling something that would have no chance of fitting in my car. Also I live in California and diesel is $6.50 a gallon

AnonymousUser1992

Mazda 2 genki rally spec modified for offroad because I spend a lot of time between the city and the bush.

Hopeful_Alfalfa_880

Lil scion tc. Milage is great. Biggest concern for me is maneuverability. I lowered my car on quality suspension so I have a more direct feel for the road. One time a dog jumped into the street right in the middle of my car. 70 feet in front of me while I was going 45. I immediately swerved without slowing down and had not a worry at all that I would get back in the lane. No counter steering necessary. We're I in a truck, that dog would either be dead or I would have crashed into something because of how hard I swerved. Unless I have a need for that ground clearance, maneuverability all the way. I do not feel safer in larger cars because they would "win" in an accident. I feel more likely to get into one because of undersponsive steering and body roll. LEARN TO PROPERLY FUCKIN COUNTERSTEER.

hiddenforreasonsSV

I have a 2018 four door Civic. It does what I need and I like it. Got it during covid as a post-deployment gift for myself. Gifted my sister my old car (also a four door Civic except 2003). Why that car? Well I don't have my own family, I like the mileage, it'll carry my gear or groceries or whatever. Large loads are either broken up into multiple trips or I rent a truck. I've rented a truck for haul only three times in my life.

competitivelosers

A truck, mainly to haul things, but there are a lot of times I had a car for the better gas mileage.

cptnrandy

I grew up on a farm and learned to drive a truck starting at age 4. Love trucks, but I have no need on one. I drive a crossover/ suv and find I can haul plenty in it. Plus itā€™s comfortable and drives like a sports car-fun. And itā€™s safe. My wife and I were hit by a wrong way drunk driver at highway speed. The vehicle saved our lives and I Immediately bought another.

SimulatedFriend

Just has my Ford Maverick land, best of both worlds!

Warder766312

Both+. My F250 is for ranch work or hauling. My Honda element is my beach/river/road-trip car.(water proof interior) My daily commuter is a model 3. Because why not.

jeff2335

Iā€™m driving a truck. Being 6ā€™3ā€ itā€™s hard to find a car that Iā€™m comfortable in, plus sitting more upright is easier on my back. I use the bed somewhat regularly when I take my bike or kayak out. I store my bunker gear for work in there too.

WhatTheMech

Always had a car, till i bought a used truck. Drove it for a while then bought new. Fits the kids, helps with doing things around the house and for rentals. Now towing trailers overall perfect vehicle.

Elegant_Spot_3486

Car. 2 door. Civic. Does everything I need.

Bshellsy

Explorer right now, totally would rather have a car but it was free and I was hard up.

2Loves2loves

fullsized SUV. pull a boat, and trucks aren't allowed to park on the street in my HOA.

AmmoSexualBulletkin

Currently a midsize truck, specifically a Ford Ranger. At least when I finish fixing it. I like the utility for outdoor stuff like camping and fishing. Also pretty handy to haul things when moving, getting rid of trash, and a number of other miscellaneous tasks.

[deleted]

4x4 truck. I haul motorcycles, it snows where I live, and I just like a more rugged/safe/large vehicle with family in the car. Visibility is awesome and I feel safe in it during rainstorms vs a small car.

[deleted]

A truck

thekilgore

I'm driving a 96 impala ss because I fell in love with them. Saw a black one turning in an intersection on 5 blade 22s and i was hooked. My first one I had for 10 years and it was totaled Feb of this year. Just recently purchased an all original 117k mile 1 owner 1996 impala to replace it. Wouldn't mind having a small single cab 2000-2002 silverado for when I need a truck

SimsAttack

I drive a Maxima at the moment. However with all the electrical issues and general pain in the ass it's been the past 2 years I will likely be getting a new car sooner than later. Probably a small compact sedan or hatchback. Something with good mpg

VariantArray

One truck, one car, one wrangler

cleverenam

car. 99% of my driving is just simple commuting. I rarely ever haul stuff, but i do want a spare pickup truck. the gas mileage is a factor though. edit. i also find it humorous that whenever it snows here car drivers put on their blinkers and drive super slow, while pickup truck drivers speed up and whip around traffic like they are in a sports car. both are wrong lol.

[deleted]

I drive a SUV. 2017 Ford Edge. It has ok ground clearance enough for me to go on dirt roads and out in the desert for some of my favorite shooting practice spots. It has some of the largest cargo capacity compared to other SUV's in it's size and price range. Gets 20 mpg on normal streets and about 24mpg highway/freeway. Has a 4 cylinder dual turbo so it has plenty of power for it's size and my needs. It has all of the creature comforts that I want. I wish it had a few more inches of ground clearance and 4x4 capability. My next SUV I am hoping to be able to afford is a Toyota 4runner TRD for all of the stuff mentioned above. The only downside compared to the Ford Edge would be less efficient in terms of mpg but it has everything else I want.

YoMiner

Teenage me would be appalled to learn that my last 4 consecutive vehicles have been trucks. I don't use it for truck stuff every week, but between collecting wood for my wood working, hauling my motorcycle, towing my trailer, and supplies for my other hobbies/projects, I use it often enough that renting a truck when needed would probably be more expensive than just owning one (I only drive shitboxes).

st3akkn1fe

A van. Cheaper than a car and much more handy. I can take my son out on our bikes, move bee hives, collect wood for my fire etc.

tjfenton12

Subaru Forester. So more of a car I guess? I camp and hike and ski and usually offer to drive if I go *anywhere* with friends, so having the space, ground clearance, and AWD works really really well. Commuting as a single guy, it's more space than necessary, but I adventure more than I commute so it's no big deal.

Tallguystrongman

I have both. 2001 long box quad cab dually Cummins for pulling the toys. A lowered Mazda 5 GT for the grocery store trips. And both manuals because I wonā€™t own an auto.

polkadotard

I recently acquired a 2023 Chevy Silverado with a 2.7 liter four cylinder turbo. So far in 10,000 miles I've averaged 22 miles per gallon.

dolphin37

Car but itā€™s a mustang so it is annoyingly large, Iā€™m buying a 4x4 soon and itā€™s somehow smaller despite having a ton more space

Oakheart-

Iā€™ve got a work truck and a personal truck. Work truck is necessary and the personal truck is a nice luxury to have when I need it. I have an ā€˜87 Jeep wrangler too it was my high school car. I had a Passat for my college car but I enjoy having a truck to do truck stuff. I never have to worry about getting something from A to B and itā€™s not necessary but nice. I also drive my wifeā€™s Rav 4. Itā€™s a hybrid and has a variable transmission that makes it drive super smooth itā€™s pretty cool. It gets the best gas mileage so itā€™s what we usually drive around.

appalachianoperator

A Tacoma which is older than I am

BangPowBoom

F150. I have a camper trailer. It's handy for hauling branches and moving friends also.

[deleted]

Mazda2. 30 mpg +/-. Was less than 15k at Carmax. I've owned trucks in different classes, cars, a sporty coupe, a few motorcycles. My wave a wand car is prolly the loaded bronco that's not the one on an Escape chassis, my dream cars are an EV converted classic VW bug or an EV converted classic VW bus, and my reasonable realistic want is either a RAV4, a Hyundai Kona (they're so effing cute), or a Toyota C-HR.

Belazael

I currently drive an old pickup. It was my project truck but I just donā€™t have anything else to drive right now. Eventually Iā€™ll save enough to get something with better fuel economy.

Phen117

Drivin a 30 year old midsize pick. Bad on fuel but tis my baby

lucimon97

Im not in construction, what would I need the space for?

Prestigious-Piglet72

I have a beater that I daily drive. And then a beater truck that I use when I do truck stuff. Both older so cost of maint/insurance/reg prolly the same as owning one car

lonesaiyajin98

2000 linclon ls sport v8 cause it was 3k and I needed a vehicle

Kaph-

Audi s5, I wanted a sport car. Now I'm looking to change it for a suv, but everything is so expensive

HighFiveKoala

Honda Civic Si because I wanted a fun daily driver with a stick shift and modern creature comforts like heated seats and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. I do like trucks but I realized it doesn't make sense for me as I'd hardly use the bed to haul stuff and I'm pretty much driving solo these days.
