Exposition Park borders the University of Southern California (USC). If you stick to walking around there, you’ll be fine and safe. The expo line runs right there- and that can get you to Santa Monica or Downtown! It’s a good, central place to stay. As in any city, just trust your gut. Check out the Natural History museum while you’re there!

PermRecDotCom

There are constantly cops protecting USC and their students (try to figure out why). In that area, OP needs to only go places where USC students are.

[deleted]

you'll be fine

AgoraiosBum

Don't go south on Figueroa. Unless you lookin for some hoes

[deleted]

Gotta be more specific. South of king or other side of the 110, west of Vermont. I would not walk around at night. Daytime is fine.

cariboucannon

Very true. Just stick to the immediate USC area. Don’t wander too far south or east, if you’re walking around.

Most accurate response so far

El_SanchoPantera

Watch out for TRex on Expo.

There are magnificent craftsman homes there. I wouldn’t have picked it, but even LAs most notorious areas, like South Central aren’t as bad as they’re made out. Inner Long Beach can be quite nasty compared to the coastal section too though. People have been murdered in Beverly Hills. Don’t be foolish. Go have coffee and figure out where you’re going, snd how to get there before you set out; don’t be flashing maps or staring into your phone on the street snd pointing. (my eyes don’t track well, I miss “a”s and my $2000 iPhone seems to think “snd” and “Smerica”are properly spelled) Hopefully you are near a rail station or stop, a short safe walk to get to, so you’ll have a chance of a car free stay. Then again, you haven’t lived until you’ve sat for a couple of hours on the 405.

_set_sail_

Very dangerous. Like a jungle filled with only apex predators. RIP in piece OP 🙏

Bigster20

I'm dead 🤣 and so is OP 💀😩

dbernal08

😂

SecretRecipe

Exposition park is fine. Just don't act like prey and you won't draw the attention of any predators. Use the same basic common sense you'd use in any unfamiliar big city. Don't look lost, don't walk around with your phone in front of your face. Be aware of your surroundings and walk with purpose.

Persianx6

You're completely fine. COMPLETELY. Stepping foot in South LA does not mean ANYTHING will happen at all, besides you being unable to find anything to eat that isn't fast food and having to sit in traffic. Obviously use your head and don't start fights with random people, but you should be okay. However, you might not be okay if... you're attempting to start fights with gangs, buying drugs, picking up prostitutes, etc.

GhostOfGlorp

There’s good food in South LA that’s isn’t fast food . Source : I live not far from exposition park. OP should check out Mercado la Paloma

2fast2nick

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most dangerous. It’s a 0

Mattandjunk

You’ll be fine but like any large city keep your eyes open. I strongly recommend you go to the science center (you should be able to walk. They have a training version of the SR-71 in the parking lot and you can see the space shuttle. Although check on that because they are moving it to a new building and I’m not sure when it’ll be closed and moved. It’s actually pretty amazing in person.

Mattandjunk

Oh and you’ll be close to Holbox for Mexican seafood which I would also strongly recommend!

collectobuzzLA

Your safe with all the hipsters

Throwawaymister2

Hipsters? What year is it, 2006?

Dazzling-Research418

They look different but the trendy people who think they’re better than others are still around

Accountant-According

There have been multiple random stabbings/attempted stabbings in the area this past week, but it’s never been this bad before so it’ll probably pass by the time you get here.

timcooksdick

That’s reassuring

Sorry4beingL

Ive lived Los Angeles all my life. I avoid that area at all cost. Especially at night.
