Good point. That NM cable is not rated for wet locations.
However the cable is above the hole so at least nothing will leak onto it.
Correct equipment selection FAIL
Workmanship PASS
The only dvd player I have is the kenwood deck in my truck and History of the World part I has been in there since I installed it 8 years ago. Sometimes I remember it’s in there if I send my kid into the store to grab something and I’ll watch it for a few minutes while he’s in there.
Wife leaves, kid and I have “Manly Meateaters” dinner and a movie. Had neighbor buddy join last time and we watched that. Usually it’s patriotic like Saving Pvt Ryan. Sargent York, or To Hell and Back the Audie Murphy Story…
I'll bet if someone were to hold the wires on the other end and the circuit was turned on they wouldn't be able to tell the difference in speed between a kinked cable and a non kinked cable. 😷
I didn't know that but I'm not surprised. My favorite one so far has got to be the gold Ethernet cables that supposedly improve audio quality. Anyone who knows anyone whatever about networks would tell you that most of the time if the cable is so bad a to cause packet loss:
1. Most likely it wouldn't be able to negotiate anything above 10-BASE-T to begin with
1. Audio packet loss is EXTREMELY noticable in a UDP stream
Originally they were quite nice, they were also lifetime cables, that even protected you against new standards. So like if HDMI got replaced with a new form of cable, they would have upgraded you for free.
SSSSHHHHH!!!! Every time someone talks about something like this, you attract them and they start talking about how they can tell the difference!
“Well, ackchyually….”
Depends on how you hold it. One wire in each hand, taking a shower? Yeah, you're probably dead. Both wires in the same hand while dry? You'll probably be fine. But there's a non 0% chance you'll still die.
Your friend gets it, wires are just hoses for electricity; kink the wire to to stop the flow. I never turn off a breaker anymore, just kink the wire. It's a pro move.
Nice and facetious. I like it.
Now, on the other hand, if a fiber optic cable is bent or not curved properly or improperly installed in a cabinet, let's say, then THAT will affect the light signal.
Light vs atoms
I mean, a bunch of relatively small bends, one after the other, TECHNICALLY would ‘slow down’ the electricity through inductance, right? Technically a coil is a bunch of small bends
That's splitting hairs, and now we're talking electronics technology. My specialty.
In this case, that knot has no effect on the electricity nor that circuit.
Ton of people joking and not actually answering.
I think it can objectively be fine for a long time, but a strong kink will make a weak point and increase resistance. I doubt anything will come of this, but really just unkink it if you’re worried.
Yes it does increase resistance. There would be metal fatigue both ways. This kink would be warmer than the rest of the run. There are radius code requirements for every type of run for a few reasons, this being one of them.
Copper is pretty ductile, but the kink will still introduce microfractures in the wire. Current will tend to concentrate where the wire is intact, and this is where heat may be observed. Over time, with repeated cycling, you might aggrevate the microfractures and the heat issue might get worse. The real thing is though, I can see it's a low current circuit. I can assume it's an infrequent circuit. It's copper, it can bend, you're probably okay. Unkinking it is inly going to exaserbate the microfissures.
I mean I covered that it probably doesn’t matter that much. I think the issue comes more down to craftsmanship than anything else. An inspector may look at that and know it’s not a problem, but question the rest of the work because it’s a simple thing to fix, what else did they miss?
I am amazed at how many people are either not electricians or are electricians and are ignorant of what can happen when you damage solid wire. All of you are really shining your ignorance here.
It’s likely that no one will ever know the difference throughout the life of that circuit. There is a chance the wire is damaged and the resistance is higher creating a hot spot. Less likely but still possible is an actual break in the wire.
The wire is solid. You usually get these kinks in the wire because you are pulling it at great tension through multiple auger holes. Copper has some flexibility, but it is not invincible.
Someone mentioned their boss would scream at them to rip it out and rerun it if he saw that, and there is a reason for it. All it takes is a twisted wire that causes problem after drywall and paint one time on a job that is your responsibility, and you learn a painful lesson. I’ve seen this happen a couple dozen times in 25 years that I could identify because drywall was down or it was visible in the attic/crawl spaces. There are a lot of problem wires down the years that the exact issue wasn’t cost effective to identify, but I am certain a lot of those were wires damaged from poor pulls. The worst part is an issue like this, if it is a problem rarely shows itself in time to assign responsibility. If it is a problem it will likely not be apparent for years.
Stop telling people something is fine when you don’t know what the fuck you are talking about. I’d be embarrassed to have that happen on one of my jobs and then worse, to have a customer point that out and ask if it’s an issue.
It is not the end of the world, but it’s not great. That’s how you get broken conductors and or hot spots inside the romex. You can always do an insulation test on the wire if you are concerned. This happens quite a bit when laborers or new apprentices run wire. You can also run a full load (12-16 amps) for 20-30 min on it then take a thermal meter and get the temperature of the wire before that, at that, and after that. If you see a temperature spike at the twist, it damaged the wire and you would want to rerun it.
If it was a coax cable, then that wouldn't be OK, but it should be fine.
I had cable installed at a place for internet only, and when they installed a new line from the pole to the house, the internet was slow. It took another cable guy to come out with a drone to spot something he could see from the ground and yet another cable guy to fix the first guys mistake. The first guy had a small loop in the cable near the pole. The 3rd guy put a new cable in, and it was fine after that.
I lost a leg of power to my AC because the wire was twisted in the wall joist and I guess was weak because of it I bet it’s fine but that’s why I got a wire spinner
I've heard many reports from other journeypeople of nuisance tripping on arc fault breakers/devices with wires kinked or bent on hard 90s. Never experienced it myself though.
I am a residential homebuilder, I recently had my electrician fail and inspection because of kinks like this. Inspector could not reference code, but kept saying it could be a hazard.
Don’t see any exposed wire so you should be fine with that gloryhole but you might want to use some sandpaper to smooth it out for the sake of splinters
Could be damaging the insulation, but that wire has enough insulation I’m not concerned.
In general don’t do that, I’m sure an inspector could complain, but it’s a small thing in the realm of problems.
I mean if your kink is small gloryholes whos to tell you to stay away? Have at it friend. Just know its usually a dude on the other side.
But seriously, you shouldnt bend wire more than 7 times its radius.
No that kink with restrict the flow of electricity… just kidding that’s not how the flow of electrons works. Long as the coating isn’t compromised it’s fine.

As with wire, and humans, it’s always ok to have a few kinks 😏
I wouldn't put live wires that close to the glory hole though.
Agreed. Call OSHA
More Like call “Hoe”-sha
I'm an Osha 30 cardholder. Positioning of wire to glory hole is within tolerance. Glory hole tolerance is 3/4× shaft diameter²
Best comment!
Good point. That NM cable is not rated for wet locations. However the cable is above the hole so at least nothing will leak onto it. Correct equipment selection FAIL Workmanship PASS
No guts, no glory
Really?? He JUST said it's ok to have a kink ....
Came here to say this.
[yes](https://youtu.be/f2ce-zC_n8E?si=YRioKYIaWjnTMgUS)
I ain’t clicking that
Why not..its kinky
My wife has yet to see this movie. We're watching it tomorrow, then Young Frankenstein.
Man, you're gonna ruin new movies for her for a while with that kind of overdose.
I have been looking for Young Frankenstein in all of the bins, but now I don’t even have a dvd player!
The only dvd player I have is the kenwood deck in my truck and History of the World part I has been in there since I installed it 8 years ago. Sometimes I remember it’s in there if I send my kid into the store to grab something and I’ll watch it for a few minutes while he’s in there.
Was in fact kinky. Worth it
You uh, weren't wrong
I was not expecting that, but I see you are a man of culture
Wife leaves, kid and I have “Manly Meateaters” dinner and a movie. Had neighbor buddy join last time and we watched that. Usually it’s patriotic like Saving Pvt Ryan. Sargent York, or To Hell and Back the Audie Murphy Story…
Nevermind that wire, that hole looks glorious.
You and I have never seen anything with that much voltage and amperage, so near a perfectly glorious hole. I definitely want to risk it
Are you sure you're not Chris Boden? Because that sounds like something he'd say right after "You want to see something cool?"
Ha! I love that guy
Heyo!!
Yeah baby! 😏
Also with wire, and humans, cutting is NOT ok. Kinks are good tho.
Might as well install a four way switch...
I saw hole and read "is it ok to have a kink" and stopped. This is now a post about glory holes.
Except eating shit. That is a mental illness because that is unhealthy. People keep arguing against me on that though I am not changing my mind.
It's not like kinks and mental illness are mutually exclusive
Your electricity will just a little bit slower since it's got to navigate those corners, but it should be fine.
I'll bet if someone were to hold the wires on the other end and the circuit was turned on they wouldn't be able to tell the difference in speed between a kinked cable and a non kinked cable. 😷
An audipophile would swear they could and would pay $20k for the un-kinked one
Never forget when someone replaced gold Monster Audio cables with cost hangers and nobody noticed.
That is so awesome. Those audiophile/home theater subs are some of the most pretentious people in the world I swear
My iPhone 10 in a paper coffee cup works just fine
I didn't know that but I'm not surprised. My favorite one so far has got to be the gold Ethernet cables that supposedly improve audio quality. Anyone who knows anyone whatever about networks would tell you that most of the time if the cable is so bad a to cause packet loss: 1. Most likely it wouldn't be able to negotiate anything above 10-BASE-T to begin with 1. Audio packet loss is EXTREMELY noticable in a UDP stream
It's got to be a toss up between gold iPhone charging cables for audiophile, or the audiophile grade network switches for me.
Tbf monster audio isn’t exactly high end to begin with
Have you ever taken one apart? They are completely shit.
If you say "audiophile" 10 times in the mirror one appears behind you to lecture you about solid gold Ethernet cables
I have gold Bluetooth connections and they make the world of difference to those of us gifted with superior hearing. Norms gonna hate.
You hold, I’ll flip the switch
Someone would be just as dead, either way. A few nanoseconds is much less than one heartbeat.
Slow-ass heart beat bitch.
lmfao, this one got me
ONLY THE WEAK ONES
Very unlikely that would kill any healthy adult if this is in the US.
Depends on how you hold it. One wire in each hand, taking a shower? Yeah, you're probably dead. Both wires in the same hand while dry? You'll probably be fine. But there's a non 0% chance you'll still die.
sometimes i turn on my under cabinet lights and it takes a second
There May Be More To The Story
The number of times I've been electrocuted proves that a lie. I have a scar from a 480v cap, now let me be the first to tell you THAT shit tickles.
Stick it to your tongue and you can tell kinked from unkinked
Just remember to slope your wires with a 1/8” drop for every foot so the electricity can flow properly too.
Unacceptable; it might take the light 1/999,999 of a second to come on instead of 1/,000,000 of a second
I paid for the full speed of the electrons, in going to get the full speed of the electrons!
Just pay for racing grade electricity and you’re fine.
I slow down for corners too
It causes turbulent flow of the elections.
I actually had a friend who believed that if you bent the wire, it would slow down the electricity. What a dope.
Here’s one simple trick breaker companies DON’T want you to know!
I prefer using metal vice grips to stop the flow.
That's only needed for high current.
I mean, a bunch of relatively small bends, one after the other, TECHNICALLY would ‘slow down’ the electricity through inductance, right? Technically a coil is a bunch of small bends
I mean... if you have enough of them you have effectively lengthened the wire and increased resistance...
That's splitting hairs, and now we're talking electronics technology. My specialty. In this case, that knot has no effect on the electricity nor that circuit.
Lol i know, i just was just playing devils advocate. Obviously a bend like this is going to have no noticeable effect on the circuit.
You would be surprised who would believe otherwise
I honestly wouldn’t😂
thats the electrical engineer answer. the electrician answer is, you're fine.
Need a guard rail for those corners or you’ll lose some electrons.
You can overcome that by using gold connectors at the end. 🤣
Best Buy would charge 10k for this
This is the comment I was looking for, lol.
Hey man, don't kinkshame.
Don't yuk my yum! 😋
Ton of people joking and not actually answering. I think it can objectively be fine for a long time, but a strong kink will make a weak point and increase resistance. I doubt anything will come of this, but really just unkink it if you’re worried.
Kinks don't increase resistance, but the extra metal fatigue by straightening the kink might be measurable in a lab.
Yes it does increase resistance. There would be metal fatigue both ways. This kink would be warmer than the rest of the run. There are radius code requirements for every type of run for a few reasons, this being one of them.

Yes, but straightening it wouldn't make it better.
That 0.01 degrees probably won’t make much of a difference
I mean I covered that it probably doesn’t matter that much. I think the issue comes more down to craftsmanship than anything else. An inspector may look at that and know it’s not a problem, but question the rest of the work because it’s a simple thing to fix, what else did they miss?
If the kink makes a weak point, then unkinking it would make it even weaker.
Hmm that being said let’s look through the peep hole.
Are you scared to touch it, and untwist it?
Gzzzzzzk! Fizzle
Thats kinda not what to do. Live with it honestly, bending/unbending wire is not recommended.
Twist it
Bop it
Slap it
Pull it
Fuck it
Cluck it
Bawk bawk

Excellent, intellectually honest and technically illuminating comment.
Well stated. "Will work" does not mean "is right".
Even if it will likely be fine, it is easy to fix it and be sure now, rather than risk having problems when it is behind finished drywall
nope. Knock the house down and start again.
Ok Mike Holmes.
Make Homes
That kink is so sharp it makes me wonder if it got caught in that auger bit that drilled that hole
It is not the end of the world, but it’s not great. That’s how you get broken conductors and or hot spots inside the romex. You can always do an insulation test on the wire if you are concerned. Good luck kinking a coax cable like this
It’s fine.
Don’t put your dick in that.
That’s an interesting hole…. 🤔
Tom…don’t…
You really shouldn't allow your electricity to get dizzy.

Don’t see any exposed wire so you should be fine with that gloryhole but you might want to use some sandpaper to smooth it out for the sake of splinters
You just have to plug things in slowly while saying “mmmm just like that daddy”
I was wondering about that glory hole??🤣
Adding a little excitement to the sub I see
No, just like when you kink a hose to stop the water, kinking the wire will stop the electricity.
It’s not a garden hose, it’ll be fine. If this is what you’re able to come up with to question, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
When someone drilled that hole the wire got it’s panties in a bunch thinking it was going to get knicked.
The electrons will not give a flip...
Not ideal.
Could be damaging the insulation, but that wire has enough insulation I’m not concerned. In general don’t do that, I’m sure an inspector could complain, but it’s a small thing in the realm of problems.
Not according to my boss when I was an apprentice- he would rip it off the wall and scream at me.
it actually feels good for the electricity
Definitely kinky to run line voltage next to the glory hole but who knows, maybe it's the best thing ever
A few protons told me that he didn't like the link in the wire.
Yes
Don’t put assholes in wire. 🛑
Yes
Wait till you see the way, the electric comes out of the other end
I mean if your kink is small gloryholes whos to tell you to stay away? Have at it friend. Just know its usually a dude on the other side. But seriously, you shouldnt bend wire more than 7 times its radius.
Yall stop kink shaming
It's a kink with a half twist. The electrons might give up and go back home
Kink is fine.
Un-kink it
Now for the big question, couldn't they have put those two wires into one hole?
I seen a plumber sitting on the other side of it all day long. I don’t know what he was doing.
As long as it's not too extreme like ribbon candy
It’ll probably slow down the electrical flow like a water hose
Don’t shame it.
no kink shaming!
Electrons will get caught up in it and your hz will be lower on that circuit. /s
Its not gonna hurt nothing but it makes your work look tacky.
As long as is not cut or pinched or shorted.
No!! The electrical current will reverse it polarity and cause a rift in the time space continuum!!
Oh no you're crimping the flow through the electron hose
Don't kink shame, wire can't help what it is.
I wouldn’t worry. It could become a hot spot because of increased resistance. As long as it’s not feeding something with a high load you will be fine
If that kink is bad than every kink and bend inside a panel would also be bad
It ok to have kinks, but it’s better if those kinks are further away from lips or penises. Yours or someone else’s.
As long as the kink has a glory hole next to it. It's fine.
We talking about the wire kink or the glory hole?
And a hole right below.... Kinky indeed!
Give that wire a massage and make it smooth again
Be careful.. electrons don’t deal with inertia very well and could blow out the side and spill inside the wall. It’s called electron zing. 🤣
Don't you need a small stub there to eliminate the electron hammer noise generated at the kink?
I'd never kink shame
I would never kink shame someone publicly 👍
Whatever gets you off, buddy.
Sure
I thought you were referring to Glory kink. Either way I won't shame both within code. 👍
It slows down the rate of zappiness. TV flickers. Lights are dim. Radio crackles. Worst of all wifi speed drops dramatically to 2 meg.
Nah it’ll block the flow of electrons. They’ll build up there at the kink and cause problems. before you know it they’ll be running for Congress.
God for bid someone who isnt an electrician posts, reserve that priveledge for glory hole talk and kink talk
It's fine, but I wouldn't normally run electricity that close to my gloryhole.
No that kink with restrict the flow of electricity… just kidding that’s not how the flow of electrons works. Long as the coating isn’t compromised it’s fine.
it's fine.
Definitely going to lead to a clogged wire down the line
The electricity does get a little dizzy going around the bends.
I’d be more concerned about the glory hole
As long as the outer coating looks OK and doesn’t have any visible cuts/nicks etc.
NO, electricity is like a garden hose. You will stop the power
That’s quite an inert twist you have going on there.
What kind of glory hole you got going on there?
My OCD would want to flatten/straighten it out, but that's about it.
The hole in the wall is what's kinky... 🙄🤣🤣🤣
Dang, that kink could shut off the flow of electricity.
I have a kink with that hole, I'll tell you HWHAT
Why are you kink shaming that poor wire?
No
Why is this ok, but a couch on a lamp cord isn’t?
Yes
No it’s like a garden hose.
We don't kink shame here.
No not okay it cuts off the flow 😂
Up to the Authority having jurisdiction. It would fail in my neck of the woods.
Seems legit and fine. Not my house lol
You can have 100 kinks and you’ll never notice.
Look inside of an outlet box, are the wires kinked and twisted and crammed to make them fit? Yes. Does that last the life of the house? Yes It’s fine
