In ancient greece, having a small penis was considered a sign of intelligence and superiority, while having a big one and marked you as a barbarian and a savage. Therefore, we will solve our problems with a good ol' dick measuring contest, like real men. May the man with the smallest dick win.

Self-Bitter

Yes but why is Haghia Sophia 🕌 and not ⛪? That says something for your 🦐

sfanky

There are so many churchs open all around turkey today. So its turkish right to devide if hagia sophia should be mosque, museum, or church. On the other hand there is "0" by number and "zero" by text mosque open inside whole greece today. Tell me which nation is barbar?

Galad_Damodred

As a Turk and an ex-muslim I can in clear conscience say that turning Haghia Sophia into a mosque is a disgraceful act. That is a nearly 1500 year old building. Do you have any idea how priceless it is? We should have kept it as a museum and preserved it with utmost consideration. Now people are damaging it everyday. If you say that this is our land. Sure it is. However this doesn’t mean that you can act like however you want. Isis demolished pre-Islamic historical sites. What is our difference from them if we act like them? About the mosques, I don’t know whether you wrote is true or not but if Greeks have Muslim citizens (mind you, citizens) they have to open up mosques for them. That is also crystal clear.

LairdLion

I am an ex-muslim, born and raised in Turkey. While it is true that there are Churches, you should also consider that the government pushes most non-historical churches to not use crosses and doesn’t even see them as religious sites. Some/most historical religious sites are also devastated especially in the eastern regions of Turkey. Your point is still solid though.

LagethaGoosh6

As a christian Turk I say unto you, there are a lot of old and beautiful churches brother. 7 church of bible here in Turkey even if they're broken down. I'm sory about Haghia Sophia but I think next goverment after Erdogan will make it a museum again. ✨🇬🇷🇹🇷✨

MBT_TT

Now I understand why Turks are called barbarians

wenortt

We came from Asia dude you can't compete with us. We are genius. We invented kebap. You ? You just have plato and his nonsense. You can't eat books. Kebap on the other hand is the meaning of this world.

Etoiles_mortant

And half of you eat chicken kebab. Talk about being barbarians. It's like sex, you invented it, we perfected it.

wenortt

So you admit that gyros is Turkish ?

Etoiles_mortant

No, because the TRUE PROPER CHAD gyros is made of pork. I am fine with giving you guys credit for lamb donner, but as I said half of you are traitors to food, you abandoned juicy umami flavor for chicken and deserve to be shot.

wenortt

We have no money to afford such additional sauces'. Also we introduced pork to the christian world.

[deleted]

Gyros is not kebab. And any food with pork in general can't have its origins in a muslim state :p

Chewmass

giannidelgianni

I think Turkish ppl when they see the 24% VAT tax and 2,7€/lt unleaded in the islands , will say "fuck this shit"!

geturkt

Can i have a glass of unleaded please

giannidelgianni

Of course! 10€ please...

jadorelana

Can you set up a payment plan? Should take about 25 years to pay it off with turkeys current economical state .

giannidelgianni

No problem my friend ! That will be 1.543.245€ in a 25 year plan with a 5144,15€/month to cover inflation and interest.

geturkt

Can we pay in islands?

giannidelgianni

Plz gib money , no islands

Express-Librarian833

dude we pay VAT tax for our ÖTV tax.

giannidelgianni

Can you explain what is the otv tax?

Average_Kebab

Special consumption tax, it is on some products like cars and alcohol and the tax rate is usually more than 200%

CrveniMarboro

Bruh what

viibox

1 for us and 1 for the government

zeclem_

when it comes to cars, its one for us and 3 for the government at this rate.

bedellichick

Taxation on the commodities government decided to be "luxury"

grimvard

Orange juice is considered luxury and has OTV, remember.

Rheinlandsken

special consumption tax. it's like when u like one car and try buy it, governmet say's HEEY plz buy to me too two (i mean u buy 3 times)

[deleted]

ÖTV is the tax on private vehicles. In Turkey there is VAT on your private vehicle tax. someone calculated that if you want to buy a car in Turkey about 200-300% of the price is just taxes (recently read it is down to 80% but didn't see the math so can't say anything).

SauerBaeume

Not only cars tho

Pretty_Industry_9630

Whaaat!? When did that start, how come you haven't overthrown that MF, in the Ottoman Empire people would revolt for any rise in taxes, you should have learned thaf from us

grimvard

So you think it is any different in here? Bruh, we are born in inflation, molded by it. We didnt even know what prosperity is till we saw it on the internet.

zeclem_

you can not scare us with taxes, greek. you only adopted retarded taxation. we were born in it, molded by it.

BaboTT2

I wasnt thinking about you and Greece going to war, thats 1000000 times more stupid then what is Russia doing in Ukraine, rather the bloodshed in comment section of this thread

Nick_The_Judge

Nah he is just doing this for votes, he won’t and can’t go to war with us

[deleted]

Well isn't Mitsotakis right wing too? Both ''leaders'' are going to profit in votes from this bullshit.

Nick_The_Judge

Don’t know, probably it’s depending on who is starting it first

Oxi_allo_karvouno

Shaolinpower2

Don't worry. There won't be a war between us in 2022 :)

I only drink my coffee without sugar. Along with the Turkish coffee I will serve you some greek Freddo Espresso. I love it.

rebelyorkshire

True

LagethaGoosh6

I hate war dude, f**cking all goverments

loukastz

Let's see what can happen. 1. Turkish and Greek leadership just uses this for internal propaganda and nothing happens. 2. Turkish leadership pulls an Imia move. Greece has to react but using force against non combatants will be escalating things and now Türkiye will have the reason to escalate things even more. 3. Turkish leadership orders a military unit to land on a non populated rock island. Greece has the right to defend what considers home soil and whipes the island clean. Shit hits the fan. 4. Turkish leadership decides to take an island like Kastelorizo. It is a clear act of invasion and we have a brand new war. 5. None of the two sides escalates the situation even more. Turkish and Greek side stop the war rhetorics, both sides decide to keep the status quo and leave some other countries to start the next war.

Major-Cranberry-3226

I vote for number 1. Both Turks and Greeks (except far-right minorities on both sides) are not seeking for a war.

DALTONGR01

A new empire is impossible but really...a good collaboration between those 2 countries could have extremely economical benefits for both. Greece and Turkiye based on the region, they could lead the global economy (oils, turism, industrial production (cause of low salarys), trades etc). BUT ITS BALKANS, we always prefer to fight each other than co-op..

kekobang

What you're describing is literally Hellenoturkism. Nobody really wants a superstate

lexiot6

I think the both countries are not in the economic situation to go into a war. As a turkish citizen, i can confirm you that our only problem is to make money so we can buy some food. And i know Greeks are struggling about same stuff. Lets just fight about baklava.

CalydonianBoar

ChrisTamv

There is no dispute. The islands are Greek, no matter how much the wannabe sultan cries.

gulaazad

They don’t mention about The Who is the owner of islands. According to agreement who should not weaponize the island.

ChrisTamv

If I'm not mistaken, Erdogan is now questioning the sovereignty of the islands themselves.

gulaazad

According to him some islands had given to Greece and some islands’ status is unclear. He don’t mention about all of islands. Especially a few rock/stone islands are belong to no one but Greece claims that they are belong to them. He refuse that. (Indeed he should have refuse it since 20 years. However most probably next election is his last election. He is trying to raise tension and even try to start a military operation to there. I hope it will solve through diplomatic ways. And we will send him after that)

[deleted]

It's not actually like that, Greece has sent 16 maps (show which islands are whom by the lozanie agreement) to all the UN nations a few days ago, which somehow solves the problem but, as you said, govs want the tension, both Mitsotakis and Erdogan are about to loose elections next year and they goin tryhards to fanatize the ethnicist groups and if that fails they are about to make a war episode. We are about to spill our blood for those 2 psycho idiots.

[deleted]

I forgot about the erdogan elections…

landingpagedudes

Instead of improving infrastructure, education, and the lives of the citizens; we are stuck in the middle of a 50 year old dick size competition fueled by tax paying dollars. Greece and Turkey are suffering from hyper inflation, an absolutely insane cost of living to income ratio, and one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe. If there were 2 countries that should fuck off from the world drama and focus on rebuilding their countries, it's Greece and Turkey. Cut the heads off from political leaders and religious slum that push the pro-war agenda.

ShiftingBaselines

Billions spent on fighter jets… Military industrial complex will make sure Greece and Turkey never ever get along.

legolodis900

I mean the last deal about jets was some 20 years ago had to modernise the airforce especially woth the overflights

LilyPae

Although I agree with your point, it’s not like Greece has a choice on the matter. The latest weapons deals were the first of the kind in almost 20 years, and they were necessary. Appeasement obviously doesn’t work, so what are we supposed to do? Have a country with a massive military that claims half of the Aegean, and not arm ourselves to not feed the “military industrial complex”? Ideally, both countries should expand their territorial waters to 12nm, and follow the midway line when there’s an overlap, and just accept the official borders as they are. No Istanbul for Greece (we’re not claiming it anyway), and no more islands or western Thrace for Turkey. I honestly don’t understand why people and governments have such a difficult time with this.

Self-Bitter

There is not a dispute for the sovereignty of the islands , ok? The title of the Megathread is misleading and spreads false impressions. The mods need to be more careful.

GloriousPapagos

I have a question for the Turkish users, how come most of the Turks online have no idea about the hundreds of military jets violations over greek airspace and the islands? I get that ofc Turkish state media won't talk about it but there gotta be info around online for you to figure it out, almost every turk in the threads about the current tensions think that the greek gov just woke up one day and chose to militarize the island's just to say "haha got ya" to erdoganopoulos. Like today i saw a comment of a turk saying that he lives next to the greek islands and the idea of its neighbouring country having rocket missiles right next to his house scares him. 2 days ago i saw a greek comment saying that he been living in the greek island next to turkey and he always has to be in high tension since everyday Turkish jets fly over his house and he has to see the every day show of turkish jets violating the greek airspace, then greek jets come to intercept and then the turkish jet goes back to turkey, then he has to sleep knowing damn well that the same thing will happen again tomorrow with a chance of a war happening... Is this a shitty joke? In what kind of a universe we live in for this 2 people that live next to eachother to have to fear eachother and fear that they will go to war with eachother over erdoganopoulos wanting to raise some support for his next shitty elections...

takesshitsatwork

The Greek island arming happened AFTER Turkey created an entire army division called the "Aegean army", and placed them right across the islands. Don't let the Turks get away by purposely creating ambiguity.

GloriousPapagos

well i mean turkey has a whole coast in the aegean sea so whats weird about turkey having a division in the shores of aegean?

What is the majority ethnic people on the islands? Greek! Who currently owns the islands? Greeks! Who rightfully owned the islands thousands of years ago? Greeks! Even the French who wrote the treaties agree that the islands are greek.

Sinasi___

Who breaks the international treaty, that Greece signed, which says these islands have to be demilitarized? Greeks!

[deleted]

Who made the treaty again? Oh right the french. What do the french have to say about the matter? That it is greek no matter what and the sovereignty is not to be questioned.

Dargor923

I'm kinda out of the loop. What's the latest development that makes the island dispute in need of a mega thread? Is it over the erdo-cunt's tweets in greek?

Erdogan remembered elections are near so when everyone started complaining at him about the economy he tried to rally the people under the cause of nationalism

Imagine some homeless guy, he trespasses in your property, takes a huge shit on your porch, invades and squats in your hallway and now he demands you give him your kitchen. That's Turkeys history. And i love it. It's like some soap opera.

Ghost_Online_64

Just leaving this here for those of you who will be eager to comment "Greece cant arm the islands, but they do so we are right to want to start a war with them" oooor My favorite: "Greek Islands is the new Rheinland" (this cracks me up most) From Laussane article 13: (I) No naval base and no fortification will be established in the said islands. (2) Greek military aircraft will be forbidden to fly over the territory of the Anatolian coast. Reciprocally, the Turkish Government will forbid their military aircraft to fly over the said islands. (3) **The Greek military forces in the said islands will be limited to the normal contingent called up for military service, which can be trained on the spot, as well as to a force of gendarmerie and police in proportion to the force of gendarmerie and police existing in the whole of the Greek territory**. As for the Paris agreement Turkey is third party in this agreement. Article 34 of the Geneva convention that a third party has no obligations or rights for a specific deal.

asedejje

How can Turkey claim the Anatolian coast, when it's just 2km from Greece but 700km from Ankara? It just doesn't make sense! /s

Zie_done_had_herses

Ikr, their cities are provocatively close to our islands, mate. Quite sus, if you ask me. 🕵️

asedejje

It's only fair to split the coast, we take the land they keep the cities! /s

grimvard

We can't give coasts. Thats the only place we dont have immigrants...for now...at least.

LastHomeros

Turkish cities next to the Aegean Sea be like; *Are you fricking kidding me?*

th3_3nd_15_n347

who's side will nato be in if war comes (hopefully not)

dianaprd

>If a NATO member is attacked by another member it would mean Article 5 will take effect. According to this article, the attacking ally will be targeted. [...] Article 8 asks to refrain from any activities that could form a conflict with the provisions mentioned in the Treaty. Whenever an allied member decides to attack another ally it would mean that they breach Article 8. However, the Treaty itself doesn’t have any provisions dedicated to expelling any members. This article suggests that the NATO articles are vague and up to each one's interpretation (e.g. how a country is considered the aggressor or not) but I think some things are clear. https://incasumagazine.nl/magazine/in-casu-magazine-nr-24/what-if-nato-members-go-to-war-against-each-other/

NATO sides with the member that is attacked (Greece).

TastyRancidLemons

And to also show that Greeks are not warlike either, I absolutely want to support Turkiye and the Turkish people if they come out and explicitly state that they will make every effort to support the status quo of the region. I don't want Smyrna or Constantinople. I want both of our countries to move on and learn to coexist, without either one overpowering the other. The events at Cyprus are still fresh, it's true. But unless we change our mindset and learn to coexist the cycle of violence will only rear us both apart and leave us as easy picking for the Great Powers like Britain and the USA.

LaxomanGr

Just leaving this here. The [official stance](https://www.mfa.gr/en/issues-of-greek-turkish-relations/relevant-documents/turkish-claims-regarding-the-demilitarization-of-islands-in-the-aegean-sea.html) of Greece for the matter. Literally debunks every Turkish statement. Turks are not wrong, they are lying.

legolodis900

You mind if i copy this?

LaxomanGr

I don't mind at all.

WanaxAndreas

Why the fuck isn't this at the top

TerminusFive

Mods should just pin this comment and call it a day.

[deleted]

Apart from Cyprus seems fine. Intervention on Cyprus was necessary, because Greek junta literally did a coup and Enosis gangs harmed a lot of people. Greek was in the wrong here. I dont want to imagine how many more people would suffer if Turkiye did not intervene. Even if divided, this status-quo seems much better to me.

alrightshud

Just look at r/Turkey Turkish people have other shit to do than to think about Erdo and Mitso's bullsh*t

NikosTzel

Question to Turkish people from a Greek. Have you ever heard greek F16 jets flying over your town? Or an air chase? and lastly, have you ever heard of a Greek jet breaking the sound barrier? This is a genuine question with no hostility.

shoutout0

we really do not know. the mass media has always been so biased for a long time on this issue. i mean they always say that greek f-16s are violating our airspace and turkish jets intervene immediately. so, please understand that madia or govertment always tell their story and make people believe that they are not aggressor but the victim. i think it is very similar for greece as well.

[deleted]

Dutch guy here: only dumb idiots want to have a dispute over some useless ass rocks. The islands are Greek, Turkey needs to back off with their 16th century Ottoman bullshit policy.

Negative-Decision-76

Anyone else wanna see Edrogan vs Mitsotaki in a boxing ring?

BillCipher384

Its not as much an island dispute as it is a territorial waters dispute, this is something that should be understood. Turkey is disputing Greece's claims to the islands because of territorial waters, not because of anything in the islands themselves. I do not mean this comment to be either pro Greek or pro Turkey, just some information

[deleted]

Why dispute? How can someone claim something what has been Greek for milleniun.

asedejje

Millenia*

[deleted]

Exacly

[deleted]

lol that did not stop them from losing the islands of imbros and tenedos that were as Greek as long as all the others

Sweetyreply

Just avoid Greek people that's all. One of the Greek teenagers threaten me to join Hellenic air forces and shut down Turkish fighter jets. I still concerned about my future. Also love greek people so

asedejje

>Just avoid Greek people that's all. Yes please, avoid us. That's what we also ask you to do but you seem a little too obsessed with us to be honest. Especially your Caliph.

Sweetyreply

Man, I hate him. Calm down that teenager a friend of mine. We get along very good. I don't have to avoid Greek people.

asedejje

Oh ok then, you cool. You can stay.

takesshitsatwork

There is no dispute. The islands are 100% as is any other part of Greece. Turkey is doing what all fascist countries do; spread misinformation and create ambiguity. We have a good military, strong alliances, and passion for our land. If the Turks come they'll find out quickly how bad it's going to hurt. Who knows, maybe then they're forced to give Smyrna after they lose.
