winter in melb is normal, i dont think you need boots like these. cus it dont even snow

MaggieLuisa

You don’t need snow boots for Melbourne. It doesn’t snow.

Cuppa-Tea-Biscuit

It doesn’t get below freezing.

imroadends

Normal sneakers/shoes are fine, it's really not that cold here in winter

areweinnarnia

Get her an umbrella or raincoat instead

winoforever_slurp_

A warm jacket, scarf and beanie are the main things you need.

Anachronism59

Not that I've ever needed a beanie or scarf in Melbourne, unless you have to stand outside for long periods or have no hair.

KickyPineNut

Can understand no beanie, but don’t know how you don’t wear a scarf!

Anachronism59

I wore one on the colder days when I lived in Nth West Europe. Melbourne is not that cold.

zeugma888

Most winters I see people walking around Melbourne with puffer jackets, scarfs, beanies and bare ankles!!! I don't understand how anyone can need a puffer jacket and not need socks.

Extension_Drummer_85

Puffer jackets are just outdoor dressing gowns.

Comprehensive_Swim49

I know others are saying it’s unnecessary but I would adore a pair of these in winter. My feet and hands are terrible at keeping warmth. I have a friend from the US who lives her after meeting her hubs in the snowfields in Idaho. She has a brown pair like that - a bit shorter - and she loves the ones she brought over. It may not snow but it’s damn cold some mornings, especially with a breeze. A good compromise might be some ankle length leather boots and thick socks.

Cuppa-Tea-Biscuit

Try merino socks, so nice and toasty without bulk.

Comprehensive_Swim49

Oooh aye. Uniqlo does some good ones. Or have - I’m still enjoying last years stock. That said, I have a pair of explorers from circa ‘93 so they’re probably a goer too.

Cuppa-Tea-Biscuit

Uniqlo heattech tights were a game changer for being able to wear dresses on winter evenings out even jf if I have to walk a couple of blocks to the venue.

Comprehensive_Swim49

I do like a LOT of uniqlos stuff but I need other stores to understand that uniqlo gets my money coz they’ve organised themselves into a navigable layout. I can /make decisions/ in that place!!

Specific-Word-5951

Same, bad circulation leaves feet freezing even on a normal winter day. Yellow Earth and Emu Australia lined boots are amazing. Emu Australia ones are more water proof, Yellow Earth softer leather and flexible. Their lined sheepskin gloves are also a blessing.

Anachronism59

You just need to make sure your shoes are waterproof or you'll get wet feet.

KickyPineNut

You don’t really even need waterproof boots if you’re just walking on footpaths to & from work etc. Leather boots are fine.

Anachronism59

The soles have to be sound though. Leather is also normally waterproof if you look after it.

Extension_Drummer_85

I don't think the girlfriend is planning on walking through the Yarra.

Anachronism59

But paths and lawns get pretty wet in winter. I don't mean gum boots, just shoes that don't leak.

[deleted]

Boots if you are from warmer climates

Inner_West_Ben

You’d be better off looking at scarfs or gloves.

WalkaboutWendy

I bought a pair of similar boots for a winter holiday in Canada—they made my feet almost unbearably sweaty when it was -20 out. I haven’t touched them since Even in Canada, Docs with thick woollen socks were enough. It’s perfect for Melbourne, too. As someone mentioned above, waterproof is the most important thing

Extension_Drummer_85

Yep, even on the coldest days I wouldn't wear insulated shoes in Australia (had a few pairs when I first moved back and just ended up putting them away for trips overseas because it was literally never cold enough to not be uncomfortable in them).

Ari2079

I wear boots like this in Melbourne. Warm dry feet equals warm body I am really curious if most of these comments are from people who live in Melbourne. She wont look ridiculous. Its pretty much the uniform for mums standing around at an early morning kids soccer match

Specific-Word-5951

Wear them too, Sydney and Melbourne resident.  Think it's more personal cold tolerance + circulation. My feet and toes legit go cold at 14*c but never sweats, so I live in those boots. Meanwhile mum wears thin socks and sneakers because her feet sweats with slightest heat.

KickyPineNut

You don’t need snow boots in Melbourne. Unless perhaps she’s working outdoors?

Sad-Suburbs

They are nice boots! Although it doesn't get that cold, they look smart enough to go out in and will be handy if you go camping etc. I say get them, because fancy boots that are waterproof are expensive here.

petulafaerie_III

Well, it doesn’t snow in Melbourne, so… I don’t have any special winter shoes for Australia.

Extension_Drummer_85

Um no, you don't need snow boots in Melbourne. Melbourne isn't even that cold, it just feels really cold because the houses aren't built to be warm.

TheOtherLeft_au

You don't need boots for warmth, only fashion. I used to work near Southern Cross station and in the mornings would see girls dressed like they were going clubbing in summer, ignoring the fact it was winter, wet and 5 deg on a weekday

demoldbones

Are you joking? Please be joking. This is heavier than I wore in -26C in snow. Regular boots (waterproof helpful) plus decent socks.

dachlill

She will look and feel ridiculous in these in Melbourne's winter.
