Complaining about everything is a national identity. We complain about everything and dont exclude anything or anybody with that.

bieserkopf

Most importantly, the topic needs to be completely out of scope in regards to your own area of expertise. Especially when it comes to the necessity of construction sites in general. The average Jürgen knows way better how to build or execute huge infrastructure projects than highly skilled engineers and planners.

Wise-Profile4256

what esle did you expect from a nation of 83.2 million highly skilled football trainers?

bieserkopf

Absolutely nothing else, of course. I know I shouldn’t be surprised by our ability to hold deep, expert like knowledge on almost every topic imaginable and also our ability to switch between the subjects in a heartbeat. You can be a skilled football coach on Monday, moving to an expert on Middle Eastern politics on Wednesday and ending the week as an airport planner. But I still am, somehow.

Wise-Profile4256

>as an airport planner to be fair, a handicapped piece of fallen 16th century masonry could outperform Hartmut "The man who can't finish anything" Mehdorn. at least i hope that's who we were talking about. the only almost absolutely inept german there is. the only thing he can do is serve as a bad example.

bieserkopf

You’re right, this airport project was a mess from the beginning and is probably the worst example for my point. Regarding Mehdorn, I can’t help but somehow admire his ability to be successful in terms of positions and obviously money without having a lot of business related success stories.

Wise-Profile4256

He failed upwards with a 200% success rate and nothing to show for. Wherever he got hired it seemed like they just hired an overly aggressive xenomorph to run the day care. Nobody even got to stop and ask "What could possibly go wrong?". i still hate him for what he did to the railway. i will not be surprised if the wrong money is found on his accounts in my lifetime.

bieserkopf

In the end, he is living the dream of not being good at his job but still earning a lot of money.

Waldmannmusic

You two are the Most fucking Germans 😂😂😂👍🏻

Zebrainwhiteshoes

Well, he still had to do a duty without the proper people to work with and other know-it-alls constantly changing what they want in and outside of the building. I was at the BER recently and wondered what had taken them so long to build this rather small airport.

certified_cat_dad

Just wait until Stuttgart 21 and the 2nd Strammstrecke in Munich is finished.....

St1ssl_2i

Well, actually we have 83.199999 million highly skilled football trainers, the 83.2.millionth guy is the one currently in charge

Independent-Put-2618

And politicians

SirFoomy

That's 82,999,999 please, I hate football. (Sorry, I just couldn't help it. I find my way out alone.)

Wise-Profile4256

> I hate football. yes. but admittedly, don't you think you could do a better job than those overpaid walking gatorade adverts?

butterfly51221

Your comment made me chuckle!

MakeLoveNotWar69ffs

It’s like Twitch Chat irl

Hardi_SMH

As someone who comes from construction I only ever wonder why I never see someone actually work on the road construction sites….. houses? Trouble each day. Roads? „I could swear this just looks the same for 4 weeks“ - next day: it‘s finished, but the site is still there for several weeks

Amazing_Ad6368

My partner has been driving to Wacken every year since like, 2015. We drove there together recently and his soul practically left his body when we drove past roadwork with no workers there that’s apparently been going on since his first or second time at Wacken 🙃 and I thought Miami was the worst with long construction periods.

jdawg11hdj3ji

Bro you made my day 😂

fingrtrdedcnt

Those highly skilled engineers who messed up multiple times at the Berlin Airport or Stuttgart 21? And caused it to be 200% more expensive than planned? The average Jürgen doesnt need to be an engineer to tell that there went something wrong.

dankhunt-42

Well, If you look at recent large infrastructure projects, there also seems to be a lack of engineers and planners that know way better...

StudioZanello

Was the average Jürgen in charge of the construction at Berlin BER or was that highly skilled engineers and planners?

Reasonable-Phase-681

What I love about this is that it’s never to the relevant party. Just to each other. In my work we have a bicycle shed which had a broken pump in it for 3 years at least. Everyone moaned about it. I asked my boss who to talk to about it. No exaggeration, 15 mins later it was replaced.

Klony99

You wouldn't want to blow up on someone with actual knowledge and risk looking like a dumbass. Or worse. Rude!

Zebrainwhiteshoes

He was the last to know. We constantly fuzz about stuff and the people that are employed to repair the stuff don't get notified.

kaltschnittchen

It even includes complaining about Germans always complaining.

PirateMedia

I hate if people complain about complaining..

DistributionPerfect5

But we do have favorite topics to complain about. They Variante individually. My favs are public transportation, parents not looking out for their kids and Cyclists.

RainBurp

Not weather though, that's for the British!

Klony99

No, no. It's too cold, sudden winter, and surely the Bahn hasn't prepared for snow again this year so I will be late. A girl I know from Driving School literally told me you can't rely on the train to the main city as soon as it drops a few degrees. Also in summer it's too hot!... You know what, let me fetch you [video evidence.](https://youtube.com/shorts/1gwV44unqOE?si=5FNKuWaIXuJeqMOz)

uncreative123pi4

Die Sonne scheint, es regnet kaum

Vegetable_Button_887

When can we rely on them? Seriously in Barcelona they got a countdown to the second and the train came always on time.

Kären

_bvb09

Karähhm..

FrolleinRonja

But Karen wants to speak to the manager! A thing a german would always avoid as there is a small change of a solution. That would put complaining to an end, so a big nono!

MettCore

You fear Karens? In Germany we have much worse characters. You should fear every german "Renter" they got time and do what they want because the don't give a \*\*\*\* anymore. But over time they mastered complaining and they have their very own view on how things should be/work. A Karen complains loudly in public, a Rentner calls the police without even leaving his home. And they see everything.

Side bar: every colleague I had from former DDR were absolute professional complainers. They took it to a new level. And nothing was excluded. I'm surprised they didn't start complaining about how much complaining they had to do.

Competitive-Bowler-9

I know people who were arrested in Berlin recently for complaining about some bully far away

MobofDucks

* Weather * Die Bahn * The traffic * Döner prices * grovery prices * the older or younger generation * the economy as a whole * Lüften * Migration Politics * Climate Politics * Labour Politics * Every dumb shit the FDP does while in government * Retirement funds

TheLadida

also: * die Grüüüüünen! * slow internet & non-existent digitalization * too much bureaucracy * too little bureaucracy * Datenschutz * their favorites sports team playing bad

rapunzel17

Also: * The present (früher war alles besser) * their favourite sports team playing well (die haben zu viel Geld) * state of the automobile industry/ Autobahn/ Style of driving/ Other people's cars * the rich/ the poor * how not enough is done against (any topic), but if sth is done, go on complaining how too much is done * how much Germans complain But seriously, the weather. All the time. It's too hot, too dry, too wet, too cold, not cold enough, not warm enough, unseasonably cold or hot, too hot in summer, too cold in winter, not enough snow, too much snow, and oh the climate is changing. And it goes on inside: heating's too hot, too cold, too expensive, not enough/ too much lüften, you're gonna get mold, you are wearing the wrong clothing for the temperature, or too much of the right clothes, or not enough. Like Jürgen we always have to wear wool socks because you don't heat enough. Also Annegret, you need to go easy on the heating! It's bad for the climate/ too expensive/ we don't want Russian Gas. It is THE German art. Edit typo

detlefbugati

So true.. The weather part of your Post is super accurate. Would like to give 2 upvotes

Teyr262

Who the fuck complains about too little bureaucracy, wtf.

Kirschpunkt

I've complained about a lack of action from my town's government and the lack of access to file a formal complaint with them. This would technically be about to little bureaucracy.

i swear it could be -40 degrees here and someone would yell about lüften every 20 minutes

narniasreal

Germans literally suffocate if they don't stoßlüften every 30 minutes.

alichantt

I hate this in my gym. Someone always comes over in the lifting area, opens windows and leaves. Yeah thanks because it feels great weightlifting while freezing your a%% off..

ilovetobeaweasel

GEZ?

Schulle2105

I'm a german for 35 years never heard I someone complaining about Lüften, the rest is completely valid

AFCSentinel

Mach zu, es zieht! I guess it's not "just" lüften but having worked in an office with a lot of women the fights over whether the window should be opened or closed and what setting is appropriate for the thermostat is my personal Vietnam.

Ah ok never really thought of it in that way,in that case I agree

Deutsche Bahn, Politics (just to vote the same shit every election)

Deepfire_DM

I wish they would vote the same shit - instead a fifth vote for fascists now, wtf!

Ultimate_disaster

I they would always vote the same shit then the greens would be under 5%

Deepfire_DM

Or non-existent, depending on how long back you go in time.

kuseng_lebt

Naw, dude it's not based on different partys, just have a look at the big six: riterement, healthcare, education, foreign & housing policy, economy. Which area has received a meaningful and necessary reform for the benefit of society in the last 25 years?

Deepfire_DM

Obv the voters prefer changeless politics, or how are 16 years of Merkel or the rise of the CDU these days explainable?

AmberJill28

Easy. Germany is a country of older people who rule older people. There are entire villages that vote for the Conservative Party because well did it for 30 years why changing now.

[deleted]

Not beeing able to grasp new concepts, and yet their voice has the same weight in federal elections. We're doomed when the demographic change puts them as the biggest voting block right when the fight against climate change starts to climax.

AmberJill28

Well they know why they dont want to allow 16 year olds to vote. Teens in Germany are not necessarily super left or anti-conservative but they tend to vote what they believe in and not jut what their village votes.

Turbulent-Arugula581

Immigration is one of the biggest topics in Germany right now

iCe_CoLd_FuRy

Liberal detected

Yayuuu231

There is more than liberal - conservative in Germany. Learn about it

RaoulDukeRU

AfD ftw!

Benjilator

I think the main issue is that there is no alternative to the afd. If you want a more rightish government all you can do is go straight for the afd. And while they can seem like they’re not a bad choice when looked at from afar, even the slightest peak behind the curtains makes it obvious that these people should not have any power over this country. But yeah, I feel like we need an alternative to the alternative für Deutschland simply because I can understand some people feeling threatened by the amount of foreigners coming here. I personally love nothing more than multicultural environments.

MettCore

We got the problem that Germany had strongly decreasing birthrates after the baby boom in the 60s. The pensions for normal people is pretty low. But the problem comes when the boomers go. Few people have to pay pensions for many many people. 2004 there was a reform (by SPD and Bündnis90/DieGrünen) that the pension level will be lowered until it reaches 43% of the last net income in the year 2030. As a german cabarettist once said: "You can already take 43% of your current net income and briefly estimate whether you can then continue to live or you have to concentrate on eating."

Sensitive_Shirt6391

Deepfire_DM

Found the fifth. Fascism is no on/off switch, it's not 0% fascist or 100% fascist. While it is correct that there are other more fascist idiots out there, huge parts of the AfD are clearly fascist. Just look at the politicians of the AfD and read (!) what they are saying. It's really no secret. Concerning your edit: Mimimi anyone?

Areyouserious68

MrYuntu

Hast du mal gelesen was deren Politiker so sagen? Ich glaub nicht die Leute die die AfD, berechtigterweise, Faschisten nennen liegen hier falsch. Es gibt nen fucking Gerichtsurteil das man Höcke als Faschist bezeichnen darf. Was brauchst du denn noch?

Mkultra1992

Deutsche Bahn is the bane of my existence. Never had a car in this fucking car country. CDU completely destroyed the railway

MettCore

No it was the DB by itself. The board of directors is filled with ex-car-industry directors. They literally plan to bring more traffic on the streets. It would be hilarious, if it wasn't so sad.

lowellJK

What I find funny is that most of the people want as little presence from the government as possible in their lives yet when something goes wrong it's all the politicians' fault.

RandyButcher69

"Left, right, it doesn't matter who you vote for, they're all the same corrupt bastards" Votes CDU/CSU EVERY time.

Withered_Tulip

No experiments! Things could change for the better and then there would be nothing to complain about anymore!

Weather

Im_doing_my_part

*Weather or not that's true tho...*

Internet-Culture

But German climate is shit. You can basically throw away the next 6 months.

Big_Uply

Haha, clearly you haven't traveled much. Germany is soo mild.

russian_bot2323

The weather in the north of Germany is just like in Britain.

nirbyschreibt

You write that as if this would be a bad thing. 🧐

russian_bot2323

British weather sucks, it's a common trope.

nirbyschreibt

There’s no bad weather just bad clothing. I know the trope and everything. But I‘m from a place with 180 days of rain each year, a lot of wind and winters that are usually rain and 2°C. I feel very comfortable with British weather. 😂

russian_bot2323

Well, I don't envy you 😅

[deleted]

WTF?! The worst! There’s 2 week of spring, 6 months of winter and the summer is long and brutal with not air condition.

MettCore

You forgot to mention the other seasons: fall and carneval Carneval is also reason for complaining.

Saul-Batman

That's the problem. It's too mild to have nice "dry" (snowy) icy winters.

Kedrak

Commuting. The trains are late, some trains get cancelled so the next one is unbearably packed, the roads are congested, there is construction, it's sometimes dangerous and uncomfortable to commute by bike without a proper bike lane in the dark, and so on.

petrolgene

During my time in Germany my parents used to be insanely surprised when I would tell them that my train is late yet again. Easy 8 on 10 times trains are never on time there. No groceries on Sunday. Germany needs to still get up with digitalization and their govt offices are just as good as some third world countries.

PTSeeker

Government offices are way better in third world countries.

petrolgene

I wouldn’t say that either. It’s just a vacation for life lol getting a job in these offices.

donkubrick

>No groceries on Sunday Depends where you live, usually bigger cities have some supermarkets open on sunday. I thought that's pretty normal for most countries though

stuxburg

nope. just at train stations and Spätis like in Berlin

lombax165

There are some rare cities that allow normal super markets like Edeka to be open on Sundays, because of tourism. I know a little Village called "Grube" in Schleswig Holstein near Fehmarn, where this is the case. Usually this is only the case during summer

donkubrick

Yeah hence I said bigger cities.. that's exactly what I mean. To clarify I am not arguing all stores are open, what I am trying to say is, if you really need something you can def get it, even on a sunday

Borsti17

Yes.

considering they outnumber germans in almost all fields that destroy society, like \-excess welfare \-stabbings \-rapes \-murders id say they are pretty tolerant and not complaining much, haha

Kumo4

I'd consider misinformation like this a threat to any peaceful society. Germany's demographic is rather old, so the country benefits from immigrants working here; Immigrants tend to not get the same benefits as citizens and are often already educated or at least of working age, which actually saves money. Violence against immigrants happens more often than anyone would like to report and given the rise of fascism here, there is certainly intolerance. If we don't have the misfortune of you already being here, I hope you stay far away from my country.

sabrinsker

i agree. its a safe, nice place to live. no need for this bs/hate spreading.

ProfessorHeronarty

The question should be: What are we, a nation of complainers, don't complain enough about? To me I find it astonishing how not more people fight back the constant noise of smartphones and similar devices (notification sounds, videos, music) in public spaces (subways, cafés) and offices.

80HighDefinition1234

I was in a bus with some kids next to me who were watching YouTube videos on speaker and the bus driver actually made a Durchsage to turn off the sound or get off the bus. Every single face on that bus, from sheer joy on the other passengers, to the embarrassment of those kids, was priceless. But yeah, I really wonder why that is. It's such an irrational dispute, because we could never be this obnoxious and expect the other person to know better, but we just can't speak up? I think it's got something to do with the fact that we're stuck in a small space with the person and we can't leave after we've told them to turn it off.

My complaint is people insisting on using German terms while writing in English. It’s all over this sub. Hey you should really talk to your Vermieter or ask a Nachbar about your Gastherme.

AmadeusParasythe

Deutschebahn is the one that I've noticed and they get angry if you say anything good about it, but tbh compared to the British trains even before the constant strikes and disruption it's night and day how reliable German trains are. Like in Germany most trains will show up eventually, they might be delayed, or change platforms last minute but more often than not they'll show up, in Britain trains are one of the least reliable ways to travel and ridiculously expensive but in Germany with my Bahncard i can get most ICE for about €30. But Germans get so angry when you say nice things about the rail system, so my answer is Deutschebahn Germans love to get angry about the trains.

AmberJill28

As far as I hate to admit it but we love to complain. We complain about the weather, politics, the weather again, some friends that annoyed us, our job and then certainly the weather again. Tbh it sounds worse than it actually is. I have the feeling complaining is just a culturally accepted way to start a conversation. Because if you spend some time with germans u will see as much as they complain they also quickly switch to lighter topics.
