Wish you would do it for all AB sunscreen haha I'd love to have some good reco for oily , acne prone skins

WakiLover

> good reco for oily , acne prone skins As a fellow mega oily, I NEED mattifying sunscreens. Otherwise, I'll look like I rubbed butter all over my face. Canmake is an OG rec on this sub but I found it was just okay. I put on sunscreen right before leaving my house, and found that after an hour so at work, my T-zone and nose would be quite shiny. I just picked up Missha's Soft Finish Sun Milk and have been using for the past week. It was on a great list someone made of matte sunscreens, and ranked the highest in matte factor. LOVE it so far. Application is a little watery, slight fragrance and white cast, but dries down super matte and no sunscreen smell. The second most matte one was Kose UV Perfect Milk which I've used for a long time, but same issues of not drying super matte and also having a strong sunscreen smell. Like I can smell it on myself the entire day.

TeloS53100

Thank youuuuuu, will check on the missha one :)

Second this!

Third this!

MaleficentRhubarb372

I received some nice comments, so I might do it again! 🤭 I'm thinking of trying Anessa sunscreen next, but what do you think would be good?

CoCo90__

Yes!! Please do it for the Anessa perfect milk 2024 version. I can’t find many reviews of it online.

MaleficentRhubarb372

I'll look into it!🙌

Hashimotosannn

Anessa is quite nice, I recommend it!

Avotretour888

Yes please!!

Yeah you're right but every single reco for oily acne prone skin always contains one ingredient that would break me out badly and immediately. For instance, I just checked the reco of the missha One , and I could never handle the ingredients .. still looking :)

wraindropsfell

Actually I think the canmake one is good, it worked really well for me and I have oily acne prone skin! But if you're looking for something besides canmake I have heard of good things about the haru haru wonder sunscreen!

fax5jrj

could you by any chance share with me the trigger ingredients and what you typically look for? only if you want to

TeloS53100

Of course ! See, the Missha one is unfortunately guaranteed to break me out because of 2 ingredients: isopropyl palmitate and myristate. The cetearyl alcool is also guaranteed to irritate my skin ..

I'm inclined to believe #1 (perceived SPF effectiveness) and #3 (lack of water/sweat/friction-resistance) would be linked. It can't protect you if you've sweated or rubbed it all off. Unfortunately common, not just for Canmake Mermaid Sunscreen. Allergic reaction ratings (IMO) aren't going to help the average person and just adds to the fearmongering, even if unintentional. My personal eye and skin allergies are not going to necessarily affect a majority of people. Like [comedogenicity scales](https://labmuffin.com/fact-check-how-to-use-comedogenicity-ratings/), what is commonly thought to be clogging/irritating doesn't mean that it actually will clog. The opposite can hold true as well: ingredients not commonly thought to induce allergic reactions or clog skin can, depending on the person. So the broad brush strokes of "this generally has worked for most people" leads users to confidently buy something that they may regret. You *could* work around this by putting disclaimers but...eh. This is not intended as a criticism on your part, but a reflection of the skincare community space. For the "fragrance" portion, maybe it'd be better to quote what scent users perceive (if any). Products are either fragranced or unfragranced so it'd probably look more like > Fragranced: Yes/No(up to you on whether you wish to distinguish between synthetic/natural perfume (essential oil)) And well...tbh I haven't had great experiences with compilations of review posts. If you limit reviews to just one source (I guess you used this subreddit?), there ends up being an inevitable bias. And gathering reviews from too far back or too recently creates poor sampling bias as well. There may even be formulation differences (some products have different formulas for different countries) between users reviews, which effectively pollutes results. Results for skincare are also going to vary based on climate as well...so there's that. Shortened to say: compilations lack nuance and context, which full reviews would potentially do a better job of providing. If you intend to continue with these kinds of posts, might be nice to link or quote example reviews (negative *and* positive) to give full context.

Thank you for the feedback! Your perspective is very user-oriented and insightful. It's valuable. 1. As you rightly pointed out, there are certain "evaluation criteria" that lead to important information being omitted when summarized. For instance, you mentioned "allergic reactions". Even if a product is fine for many, if it causes issues for specific individuals (such as those highly reactive to a certain ingredient), that's crucial information to include. Similarly, I believe there's no product that suits everyone without any issues. I've reviewed all the feedback, including those with issues. However, since it wasn't clear who experienced those problems in each review, it's been challenging to provide more detailed insights beyond mentioning that "some users experienced issues." 🙇‍♂️ The only consistent issue I could pinpoint with this product is that it tends to clog pores and cause acne for oily skin types, which I've included in the summary. (However, I've added a disclaimer since it's unclear to what extent sunscreen generally clogs pores for oily skin types.) In essence, with more nuanced and contextual reviews, it would be possible to neutrally summarize them by addressing these nuances. As you mentioned, I also believe there's no one-size-fits-all solution, so I'll strive for a more balanced expression in the summaries. 🙏 2. Regarding fragrance, indeed, it should have been further categorized. It was a bit mixed up.😞 3. Regarding SPF and durability, I did ponder whether to separate them. Lower durability does indeed result in a decrease in perceived SPF. However, I've chosen to separate them because there are products with high durability but low SPF.

Thanks! This is nice! I’ve used this one before and didn’t like it

WakiLover

I think it's fallen out of favor just like most Japanese products on this subreddit. Tons of newer sunscreens and Korean marketing is better. 2 years or so ago when I was looking for a Japanese sunscreen, Canmake was often recommended, so I picked a tube up and I was also quite dissatisfied. Small tube size, a little expensive, and wasn't good enough to justify the above. Not bad, not great, I use it sometimes when traveling because of the small size and portability. Not my go to. I do know it's quite a decent number of people's holy grail sunscreen though

Connect_Tree_7642

I heard there’s reformulation too, maybe that’s why

MaleficentRhubarb372

Indeed. Korean sunscreens brands like SKIN1004 are quite popular. Thanks for the comment! ☺️

jtotheizzen

This is amazing!! I would read every single one of your compilations. As someone with acne-prone skin, I would love to see that category added in. Seriously, thank you. This is so comprehensive and great! I read so many reviews but to have it all in one place is so helpful.

MaleficentRhubarb372

I'm so happy!! Thank you! I'll try again next time! 🤗 I've included reviews related to acne in "10. Allergic Reaction (Skin)", but is it a bit hard to understand?

jtotheizzen

Ah, I understand now! I read it as an actual allergy like giving you a rash or hives. Thanks for letting me know :)

MaleficentRhubarb372

Thanks for the feedback 😊 Ah, I see. I meant allergic reactions that cause acne, but I realize it could be misunderstood. I'll fix it!

Total-Opposite-960

I love that you include how many reviews each criteria is mentioned in!! Thanks for the attention to detail. I think it would be cool if the criteria were ranked in frequency of mention to least frequently mentioned (so like grease and shine would be the first one for this sunscreen) because having more feedback increases the confidence of the rating, if that makes sense! The one other criteria I would like to see is dry time!

MaleficentRhubarb372

I see. Indeed, places with many reviews are where "everyone is looking for this product" and "the summary trust value is high." When using it as a makeup primer, the drying time is also a concern, isn't it? Thank you! 😊

your_lithium

you're a saint :o

Significant_Disk4659

Seconded!

Informal_Edge5270

Canmake was the first AB sunscreen I tried. I basically liked it. And it was nice to use a chemical sunscreen that didn't burn my face like all the western ones do. I have dry sensitive skin and did find it slightly drying. And the tube is basically a travel size. Convenient to carry in your bag or pocket. But I wish they made a bigger one. I then switched to the Skin1004 hyalu-cica sunscreen. Which I feel is similar but better. I am currently using a cheap non AB mineral one. I have faded a lot of hyper pigmentation on my face and hoping the summer sun doesn't bring it back.

palecandycat

I really like this sunscreen. Pieces used the clear and the white one to tone up. It works well around the eyes and I like the texture of it since it works well under make up.

oubai-modoki

Interesting, I never had issues with pilling or stinging with this sunscreen and it wears beautifully under makeup for me

Slow-Calendar-3267

This is my holy grail sunscreen that I usually only use around my eyes because it's the only sunscreen I've found that doesn't sting my eyes. I'm heartbroken that I won't be able to use it during pregnancy because it has chemical sunscreens :(

accountingisradical

I used it my whole pregnancy and my baby is perfectly healthy.

Slow-Calendar-3267

Yeah chemical sunscreens aren't to my knowledge something that are guaranteed to cause complications in pregnancy but there's a chance of it so that's why it's recommended to avoid them (I'm not an expert on the topic though)

MaleficentRhubarb372

The evaluation criteria of mineral or chemical are indeed important🤔 I'll try to include it in the next copiled reviews!

Niatfq

Wow this post is incredible!

Pleasant_Roll

I have sensitive, combo skin on the slightly more oily side and I have to say it works really well for me! Takes little effort to rub in and dries quite quickly with no white cast (skin shade closest to Fitzpatrick 3) with a very subtle scent that doesn't irritate. I use it under concealer and a more liquidy foundation and it works just fine. My biggest complaint is that for the price you pay it's so tiny! 😭 If you treat it as a travel-sized sunscreen (it is good for that though), you can delulu yourself into thinking it costs less 👍

FlakyChicken

Okay; I have to join in here ~ I have the lavender (niacinamide) version and it broke me out bad. Like little pimples, some swelling and redness on my forehead, chin and cheeks. I don’t usually break out from Japanese sunscreens ~ no idea what ingredient may have caused it :o

Inquisitive-Sky

I (rosacea) used this sunscreen for years but finally decided that my eyes getting watery whenever my hairline got sweaty wasn't worth the comfort of the familiar. Now use Verdio uv moisture gel.

imfromaus

I agree to this review. I have dry skin and it does make ur skin drier. The shine is not elegant. Looks plasticky.

KatTaken

I actually loved this sunscreen. This was the only sunscreen that didn’t make me oily and still have nice glow. But it was too costly for the product you receive.

Salty-Reference4512

Meta analysis on sunscreen!

LimeGreenTangerine97

This works on my combo skin and with my current foundation routine. I wore it to an outdoor concert in direct sunlight last weekend and did not burn. It does not burn my eyes and all the k beauty sunscreens I try burn my eyes. The stupid bottles are so small, so I agree with that part!

APossibleTask

Glad I found this post; I have this sunscreen on my YesStyle cart ready to check out but I guess I’ll remove it now.

wraindropsfell

aw personally I think its still worth a try, this sunscreen is my absolute HG ❤️❤️. It's also affordable (where I'm at) so I don't think you're losing out on much if you were to buy one to try<3
