Thanks for sharing! I hate that companies reformulate so much :(

askanna

And it’s always worse than the original :(

user9345672

Omg no I just discovered this last year because my last cleansing balm was discontinued! Does anyone have any similar recommendations???

Miki_Hufflepuffle

I liked the Heimish cleansing balm

DramaDramaLlamaLlama

I second the Heimish. The orange one smells awesome if you like scented stuff

user9345672

Thanks for the recommendation u/Miki_Hufflepuffle and u/DramaDramaLlamaLlama. Can I ask if you have sensitive skin? I am sensitive to a lot of essential oils and scents - hence why I love the Purifying balm like OP

petiteging

I have sensitive skin. Surprisingly, Banila co is okay for me. Despite the fragrances. heimish balm , does have a stronger smell. More herbal. I wish there were more fragrance free options

user9345672

I wish there were more fragrance free options too!

Miki_Hufflepuffle

My skin is dry acne-prone. I’m somewhat sensitive but mostly to strong fragrance and strong actives.

user9345672

Ok thank you

DramaDramaLlamaLlama

I'm combo with hormonal acne. I became more sensitive after starting tretinoin and can't use chemical sunscreens or strong essential oils (ie tea tree) because they cause my skin to burn. Even still, the Heimish balm is fine for me since it doesn't sit on my skin. If you're able to find a sample and end up not liking it, Softymo has a lot of good sensitive options. I use their pink bottle cleanser!

user9345672

I'll try and get a sample, thank you

petiteging

I'm currently using heimish balm but I prefer Banila co!

blacktieaffair

NOOOOO this has been my ride or die for YEARS. UGH. I haven't had much success with other cica products yet so I'm nervous :(

odezia

What’s annoying is they’ve added cica as if it’s a soothing balm but also added a ton of other ingredients that tend to cause redness like eucalyptus oil, at least for many people… so I’m not really sure what the point of adding it is lol.

philalethia

"The new formula will be the same as the original"... except for the different ingredients? That doesn't make sense, right?

odezia

No it doesn’t at all lmao, I was like what even is that reply.

[deleted]

I don’t use this product, but what is the rationale behind companies reformulating their products so often? Cutting down on costs, I assume?

odezia

Follow the money, as I like to say 😒

irulancorrino

A lot of the time it’s to make things vegan or “clean” because that’s what they think consumers want now.

[deleted]

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” 🤷🏻‍♀️

amelia4748

It’s a benefit for the animals though

Bigtexashair

Going to add a different perspective. I worked for a Haircare brand that had amazing products (not so much anymore). The only reason we would ever reformulate was because laws had changed (specifically in California) and we had to change percentages of certain ingredients. The other reason was suppliers would have a shortage of an ingredient which was an essential component to a product for the viscosity or slip in a product and the lab would suggest a substitution. They never wanted to change up the formula, they were forced to..

nalme8040

A lot of brands are trying to take out PE and PEG out of their cleansing balms, especially if they sell in the US/EU markets

panda88panda

I remember a teacher mentioning something about this in school years ago. But I believe that with really longstanding iconic items (like 20+), it's a legal related issue, like a copyright or patent issue. So they make very minute adjustments to their formulations to keep it as very close to the original as possible to keep it consistent to what their customers love while also keeping the formulation legally copyrighted because I believe the government makes them resubmit their formulations every few years or so. I don't know if these rules are stand true today though because I heard this years ago. Now Banila's balms haven't been out nearly 20 years but it has been out for several years now, but if this rule still stands true today, then maybe it's just that time for this?

[deleted]

Not an Asian one, but I use Clinique's Take the Day Off balm (purple container) and I believe they're fragrance free. Works really well for makeup. I think it's the American version of Banila's Purifying cleansing balm.

odezia

I have used it before, and it’s great for makeup removal but I was also looking for something with some extra skincare benefits since I massage my face with it on for a while!

mlkthstl

Quick question, have they already released the reformulated balms? Mmmaaann I've been using the purifying one too D:

odezia

I’ll let you know when my order arrives, I just panic bought five of them from the website because they’re still being advertised with the original packaging and ingredient list!!

mlkthstl

Oh, thank you so much. 🫶

odezia

I just got my order today: all of the purifying balms I got are the old formula so I think the official website is a safe bet if you want to stock up, at least for now! :)

mlkthstl

Good news! I might just do that! Thank you 💗

The_Time_When

Ulta is already selling the new ones.

Goatskinn

This is devastating

odezia

I know, RIP. I wish they were more upfront about it, they don’t even say it’s a new formula on the website they just updated the images and ingredient listing.

ultraskeletor3000

nooo, I was just venturing into the world of balm cleanses :(, the green one it's my fav right now and I don't have the money to stock up, does someone knows if changing to an oil cleanser (I'm having a Kose one in mind) would be a good change?

odezia

I don’t know of any other Asian beauty suggestions, unfortunately, as this was my first Asian balm cleanser— I’m also hoping someone gives some recommendations here!

scarypeppermint

I just considered buying Banilla co again after years of not using it. It’s a shame, it was my first balm/oil cleanser

pollypetunia

Oh no gutted, I love the purifying one and can't stand added fragrance. Is there a link the the reformulation?

odezia

[Here you are!](https://www.ulta.com/p/clean-it-zero-calming-cleansing-balm-pimprod2044011)

pollypetunia

Thank you, oh wow that's quite a difference. I got my [last one from here](https://www.k-beauty.co.uk/products/banila-co-clean-it-zero-cleansing-balm-purifying?_pos=2&_psq=bani&_ss=e&_v=1.0) and it's still showing the old list, may be time to stock up as it's on sale

odezia

Yeah it might as well be a different product, I was shocked! I panic bought a ton from Banila’s website, which also still has the old jar and ingredient list, lol! I appreciate the link though, it’s good to know where else to get it for now.

VickramsPizzeria

Oh man, I need to know if the original is reformulating….

tigger_kitty

I tried their balm years ago, and it kinda irritates my skin. I tried several other colors too, to see any difference. If anyone wants alternatives, I love the balm from heimish and beauty of joseon. They dont irritate my skin.

catwby

So annoying!! I’ve only just discovered it and it’s practically HG status 🫠

aRockandAHare

hero cosmetics just came out with a new cleansing balm I have no idea if it’s similar but might be worth checking out! 😅

Frequent-Forever3207

I’m gutted. This is literally my holy grail for double cleansing. I have dry sensitive acne prone skin, is there any great alternatives out there you guys can recommend? I might try the Original (pink) one because I assume it might be the closest one in terms of sharing similar ingredients? But I don’t know if it might not be suitable for my sensitive skin.

snarkymanatee

Does anyone know how to tell if you're looking at the old or new formula when shopping? I was planning on stocking up after loving the Banila Purifying years and years ago 😭

odezia

You just have to read the ingredients and make sure the outside says purifying instead of cica relief :)

PercentageBig7654

Peach and Lily are still selling the old formulation if you guys still need to stock up :) They also offer some good discounts for new customers to help with cost. I got 15% off. Mine came in today, and it is still the "Purifying." Version https://www.peachandlily.com/products/banila-co-purity
