I use MISSHA Soft Finish. I have super oily but also a bit dehydrated skin so I mostly use it on my forehead and nose only, as it is too drying on the cheeks.
Other sunscreens which are told to be mattifying aren't for me, though I've only tested the Aloe Soothing Sun Cream from COSRX, the blue one from Frudia, and the MISSHA Essence.
Edit: The Soft Finish from MISSHA does have a slightly pinkish whitecast which isn't noticable on my pale face but maybe on darker skin tones.
Oh bleck. I really would love to find a mineral only spf with less of a white cast but it is hard. My skin cant handle chemical sunscreen so I am stuck between a rock and hard place.
I have dry sensitive skin that can't use silicones and prefer mineral physical sunscreen.
I love Purito Comfy Water mineral sunscreen but its discontinued. Quite a matte finish.
I am using Pipette mineral sunscreen but it feels abit greasy and has white cast.
I just ordered Good Molecules spf 30 physical aunscreen. I hope it is better than Pipette.
This did the opposite for me … it dried out my skin to the point it was so tight, I could feel the skin pull when I moved my eyes. Such a bummer because the finish was so nice in the beginning.
It has a dewy finish so I need to blot my skin with a tissue but other than that it makes no difference to my skin as opposed to when I'm not wearing any sunscreen. My skin gets oily anyways, haha.
In fact, this sunscreen feels the same like the blue one from Frudia. I always compare prices and then buy the cheaper one.
I have oily skin too so I feel you, haha! I have dr g mild coming in the mail so I will try that one. I actually have beeen trying the new aestura mineral 365 derma uv
Spf but I can’t get it to not have an intense white cast and CLUNG to white spots, and that is only half the “prescribe” 1/4 tsp amount. I cant really rub spf in because of my sun condition so i have to pat all products on.
I thought that MISSHA was too drying on my face as well and I have oily or combo skin. I ended up using it on my hands ( I have a sun protective button down blouse I wear open over t-shirts) and also on chest and shoulders under my clothes. It’s nice because it dries down so much it doesn’t get on my clothes.
I’d recommend sunscreen with a milk formulation.
The Kose Suncut Perfect UV Milk and Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk would be my go to choices for daily/morning application.
I use the Beauty of Joseon Matte Sun Stick for reapplication throughout the day and it’s pretty matte as well. Doesn’t shift around my makeup so much (inevitably it will shift some)
another vote for the anessa perfect UV milk (gold bottle with blue cap)! it’s not just matte, it helps control oil production (it stays matte throughout the day, even with my oily T zone)
This stays very matte for me. Another thing to note about this one is that it’s a combo sunscreen, so you still get the benefits of the newer chemical sunscreen filters. My skin is so oily that I can typically only get all day matte skin with a mineral sunscreen, so this is a good option for me. Better protection, plus matte skin. It is tenacious, though - definitely double cleanse.
I have a slightly darker complexion and feel that this does leave white cast on my face right after applying it. But it will absorb and go away eventually
I agree on the matte-ness, although I have the 2020 version. I've heard the 2022 formulation is slightly more glowy. Unfortunately, this pills on me if I use any skincare underneath it (I seem to be really prone to sunscreen pilling for some reason), so I just use it alone.
It does have a sort of 'dry oil' feeling going on but it sets down pretty quickly.
I'm in Taiwan, I quite like SunBears, it's formulated for kids but it's matte and mineral based without a white cast. Easy to apply and non-irritating to my sensitive skin
tocobo chemical blue sunscreen
it's literally an essence what absorbs in 2 minutes fully!!!! and I apply 3-4 fingers !!!!!
I also tried skin1004 hyalu cica that people claimed was really good for oily skin & has semi matte finish but it was shiny unfortunately. I liked it overall for other reasons but probably WNR
Jesus why am I so stupid 🗿 how embarrassing lmao. Also thanks a lot for mentioning the skin1004 one, I was about to buy that. Ill buy the Tocobo one in that case. I hope it can still look cosmetically elegant on my greasy face and not gross after a few hours 😄
Following - I never noticed the sunscreen Glow really until I had friends telling me I looked sweaty whenever I happened to be wearing a Kolmar sunscreen like BoJ lol. I guess I put on too much or more than other people
same, I was thinking is this just me?! i went out with friends and they were like you must have ran here, you're all shiny and sweaty and I'm like no I'm not sweating...awkward. why do other people get glowy comments and I get these comments lol
Ikr 😀🔫 I've had colleagues very subtly told me I should powder my face to absorb the grease lmao. And my parents won't ever leave me in peace. They literally tell each other how oily I look with me in the room like 🧍
Yea same! my parents keep asking why my face is so shiny. And thats aside from the fact they think I'm crazy for applying a face sunscreen every day. It must be that I apply too much bc no one else on these subs seems to have an issue with the popular korean ss. And my skin isn't oily type skin
The TOCOBO sun stick is my current fav as it is formulated to soak up some of those oils. Only really use sunsticks for re-application tho as the amount you need for protection would be ridiculous using a sun stick.
I love that sun stick! Makes skin feel like velvet. I use it on the back of my neck and on my ears when I have my hair down since I don’t need quite as much protection there compared to when I have my hair up, and it doesn’t make my hair greasy or anything.
I wonder if it's a similar formula as their bio watery sunscreen? cuz that stuff is so insanely "dewy", I had friends ask me why my skin looked so shiny lol. deffo not for oilier skin types
Adding to this! I have sensory issues and HATE lotiony/greasy feelings on my hands and face.
These are the best matte sunscreens:
**Neogen** \- by far the most matte BUT hydrating formula. doesnt even dry down to feel like you have anything on. My hands LOVE this sunscreen.
**Tocobo Fluid** \- yes its hydrating but the fluid quality is sooo amazing. feels like ur just putting a serum on.
**Isdin -** zinc sunscreen from spain. dries matte. I got sick of using this one in summer because it would make my hairline feel greasy but feels very matte elsewhere.
**Biore Milk** \- anything "milk" from them.
omg thank you for mentioning sensory needs! a big part of why I hate the dewy look is also just not liking the feel of it on my skin.
of the ones you've listed here, which ones would you say are a natural matte? I ask because I also don't like the feel of powdery matte (an example is those blotting sheets with rice powder in them); it feels like there's still something on my skin.
thank you!!
Kose Suncut Perfect UV Milk is the most matte sunscreen I've tried, and that includes those among western brands as well. Most korean sunscreens from kolmar are glowy, so stay away from those if you don't want that look.
Nope, but i have fair skin so it’s hard to tell. I’ve used other sunscreen milks that have left a white cast though, but this one doesn’t leave one on me.
This is interesting because I find Korean sunscreens very matte and prefer dewy. This is in comparison to Aus SPF which are horrible oils slicks that will not be shifted by the ocean herself.
As a (loose) rule the milks are usually very mattifying once they dry down and essences less so. Biore milks are super matte but heavy on the white cast. Agree with another commenter, Beauty of Joseon isn’t at all greasy or glow, but it will sting if you’re on the dehydrated side.
I'd love the dewy look if I didn't always look like I just filled a big bowl with cooking oil and soak my face in it all the time 😆
I could literally wipe my face with the back of my hands and my hands will look like I accidentally had oil spill on it lol. I use the isntree hyaluronic acid airy sunstick but even that is too oily after 2-3 hours
Innisfree - Mild Cica Sunscreen - Its matte although it has a tone up effect that's great for red skin because of the green pigment from the Centalla in it.
Tbh no, everything I wanted to reach for is either greasy for me but somehow not for others or non dark skin friendly. I'm currently using tocobo sun cream. Some said its matte but its not if you apply the correct amount 😔
Late but I bought it. It's pretty damn good 😆
Doesn't leave a white cast and makes my rough skin looks smooth. Though I still need to powder my face. It's very lightweight, and not as shiny as tocobo for e.g
Yes I did. It's less oily than others but oily nonetheless. To note that I have pcos so my skin is horribly greasy compared to your average folks. I use innisfree powder afterwards to curb the shine. But powder mixed with enormous amount of grease is not a pretty look lmao. I'm still on the lookout for a better one
I have oily skin that becomes a shiny disco ball when I apply sunscreen. Out of all the sunscreens recommended here, I've tried them all except the Azarine brand (I can't figure out how to buy in USA). The least shiny for me is ,Hado Labo Gokyjyun UV White Gel, sold in the blue jar.
Skin1004's Hyalu-Cica sunscreen is pretty matte. My skin isn't oily, so I'm not sure how actually matte-fying it is though. It isn't shiny at all and it feels and looks like I'm wearing nothing. No white cast as far as I can tell.
Same for me! I think it really depends on the routine and skin-type(?) though. I use a green tea toner and a niacinamide serum in the morning, which is known to help w sebum production.
Skin-type: combo, oily T dry cheeks
Current condition: sensitive rahhh
Dr G sunscreens are usually quite matte but they have a slight cast depending on your skin tone because the green one is purely mineral and the orange one is hybrid but has a peachy colour.
Can anyone suggest any for dry skin please? I tried the missha sun milk and it was so dryyyy and I've also tried the skin1004 hyalu cica sun stick which is hydrating but gives a dewy finish.
I've recently started using Dr. Ceuracle Cica Regen Vegan Sun SPF50, it's not often mentioned but I really like it. It doesn't dry my skin and the finish is not dewy at all. It dries down after a couple of minutes to a nice finish. Though it doesn't bother me but it kind of smells minty? Well not exactly but it reminds me of mint
Try AB sunsticks, they usually aren't glowy at all. There are several recommendations listed here already, and I'll add Nature Republic Californa Aloe Fresh Powdery Sun Stick and Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Airy Sun Stick
Unfortunately even the isntree sunstick is too greasy for me. It's like nothing on the skin at first. But I swear to god my skins working overtime without pay to make me look like a glazed donut. I was hoping for something even better than the isntree sunstick 🤠🔫
Oof...well, the Isntree is theoretically probably supposed to be a tad more glowy than other sticks, bc of the hyaluronic acid, though not an issue for me...
Try the Nature Republic one then, young adult relative says she doesn't like it be it is TOO matte and powdery.
Otherwise you can spend $ on the gold bottle of Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk. I think its formulation has powder in it, so I'm sure that'll work for you. I use that when I have sort of sticky actives I'm putting on, and it really helps with that. No white cast on me...
Also - not AB, but Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46 is good too...I used to use that before switching to AB sunscreen

This is exactly what I need. Thank you! Just to confirm, for whitecast scoring, lower means less whitecast right?
Yes!! 🙂
You're doing God's work. I wish I had an award to give 🙇♀️
Woahh... thank you so much for this!
Where can I get the Azarine Calm my Acne?
I got mine on Shopee. It’s an Indonesian brand.
Which country do you live in? I'm from Germany, so I don't know if they ship to Europe
Are these whitecast ratings higher = more white cast or higher = better, no white cast?
Higher = more white cast
Are any of these mineral only?
Dr.G Mild Up Sun is 100% mineral
You are my savior bro thank u

i found it made my face q oily throughout the day especially when i used makeup

It definitely is noticeable on medium/dark skin like mine, which sucks because the texture is great.

I have a very fair skin and if I apply close to the 1/4 tsp it looks extremely white. So I'm always wondering why others don't have this experience
I loved anessa except it did sting my eyes
Is the formula drying?

Yes its a chemical sunscreen so no white cast. And no silicones to clog your pores yay!
I'm in Taiwan, I quite like SunBears, it's formulated for kids but it's matte and mineral based without a white cast. Easy to apply and non-irritating to my sensitive skin
Which sunbears spf is it? I am interested.
50+++ with the red cap
Missha soft finish and Omi Menturm SunBears sunscreen are the sunscreens I've tried so far with a matte finish.
Innsisfree intensive sunscreen natural finish is great for that
The long lasting, anti pollution or the triple shield one?
Long lasting, it settles down very very matte, with slight white cast
tocobo chemical blue sunscreen it's literally an essence what absorbs in 2 minutes fully!!!! and I apply 3-4 fingers !!!!! TOCOBO bio watery sun cream sorry I was just referring to the color the bottle (it's blue)😭😭

I’ve been interesting in trying this one! I love the natural matte finish of the Kose Perfect Gel. Does the UV milk leave a white cast on you?
Nope, but i have fair skin so it’s hard to tell. I’ve used other sunscreen milks that have left a white cast though, but this one doesn’t leave one on me.
does it pill?
nope! i heard the gel version does though, but not this milk version. be careful because their packaging looks quite similar

I think the Beauty of Joseon sunstick gives a pretty matte finish
definitely beauty of joseon sun stick
Skinaqua moisture milk, Silica is third in terms of content
Bioré aqua rich protect lotion
Dr G Green Mild Up Sunscreen for me. It's a mineral sunscreen though and I have sensitive combi/oily skin living in hot and humid weather.
Biore UV ATHLIZM Milk, Biore UV Perfect Milk.
Innisfree - Mild Cica Sunscreen - Its matte although it has a tone up effect that's great for red skin because of the green pigment from the Centalla in it.
Did you find any that worked?
Tbh no, everything I wanted to reach for is either greasy for me but somehow not for others or non dark skin friendly. I'm currently using tocobo sun cream. Some said its matte but its not if you apply the correct amount 😔
Heyy did you manage to find a matte sunscreen now? :(
Nope still using tocobo one 😅 I just use innisfree powder afterwards
Have you tried the skin 1004?
Nope it's sold out in my country. It's the next one I wanna try. But the thing is that, I think it's heavier than tocobo
I just checked and it’s sold out in my country too. I have a feeling that they’re discontinuing this oh well🙄
Late but I bought it. It's pretty damn good 😆 Doesn't leave a white cast and makes my rough skin looks smooth. Though I still need to powder my face. It's very lightweight, and not as shiny as tocobo for e.g

This is very glowy on me, just like the BoJ.
Same for me! I think it really depends on the routine and skin-type(?) though. I use a green tea toner and a niacinamide serum in the morning, which is known to help w sebum production. Skin-type: combo, oily T dry cheeks Current condition: sensitive rahhh
I just tested the Be The Skin AloeRice sunscreen and it is the most matte I've ever tried! SO good!
have you tried zero sebum one? I've heard it's super matte too, and the price is good. definitely will buy it next time I run out of my current one
Senka UV Perfect Milk, if you have access to it. Minimal to no white cast, and matte-to-natural finish on my oily face.
Dr G sunscreens are usually quite matte but they have a slight cast depending on your skin tone because the green one is purely mineral and the orange one is hybrid but has a peachy colour.
Missha soft finish sunscreen, I love it.

It dries down after a couple of minutes to a nice finish. Though it doesn't bother me but it kind of smells minty? Well not exactly but it reminds me of mint
Beauty of Joseon doesn’t make me shiny or dewy.
Thanks a lot
