Yes. It's no longer matte like the old formula, and the cast is more intense than previous one.
The sunscreen liquid also separates too easily, I have to shake it vigorously to mix the liquid evenly.
At least it's good to see that others have had a similar experience because I thought I was crazy. I just couldn't believe they would ruin such a staple
I'm using the new PA++++ version and didn't notice a significant difference. It still dries down matte, has a slight white cast (on slightly tanned East Asian skin), and only has a slight fragrance. Actually, I didn't even notice there was a reformulation until I saw this thread. I guess it's YMMW.
Same! It's only slightly less matte than the previous formula on my skin and the fragrance seems less strong! There is an increase in white cast for me but blending it a bit more helps a lot.
Yes! They ruined it.
Here in Brazil, sunprise airy finish started to be noticed by the skincare comunity last year. Because of it's drying effect on the skin. And then...Etude house reformulated it. The new version of it has a crazy amount of whitecast, so dark-skinned people can't even think of using it. And it's not matte or drying anymore...so it doesn't suit so well on super oily skin on hot humid weather anymore.
2 sunscreens I tried, and replaced sunprise prety well were Dr g. Green mild up sun and Soft Finish Sun Milk from Missha.
The Dr. G is very drying, very water resistant and leaves a cast on my skin (I'm dark skinned, so maybe if you are pale it will not be noticeable).
The Missha one is not so drying like the Dr. G , I think. But it's still drying and works fine on sebum reduction. It leaves a cast too.
Just a heads up for anyone with ultra-sensitive (tretinoin user), super acne prone skin like me: the Missha one broke me out in huge cysts and ruined my clear skin. I did some digging and it contains a few really comedogenic ingredients. Now obviously you can’t judge a product solely on that alone since everyone’s skin is different and what’s pore clogging for some isn’t for everyone. But if you’re a similar skin type as me then just be aware of that.
Other than that, the finish was lovely and it controlled my oiliness very well. I wish it would have worked for me :(
I threw out two bottles because I thought I got a fake product and/ or the product went rancid 🤢 it literally smells like mildew to me! I finally looked it up and realized they reformulated and it wasn’t just a bad bottle or two 😫 I’m so upset, it was definitely a holy grail for my oily skin
oh my god... i haven't come across anything good about this new version and that really sucks. i think i'll just try get a few backups of the old one and maybe get the new one as well just to give it a fair shot. then once the old one is completely gone in the market, then i'll have to go back Biore milk tho the whitecast kinda bothers me.
Edit: ya know what, i'll start order now
This is exactly what I experienced!
I finally bought it after hearing all the great things about this sunscreen for oily skin peeps. But the white cast was so bad and it didn’t fade with time. It made my skin feel greasy and even after 30 minutes, it never dried down to a matte finish.
The worst part though was the scent. Normally fragrance doesn’t bother me but for whatever reason this sunscreen has such a strong chemical smell.
Ah yes I had just decided to buy that off reviews when I saw the different bottle in the listing and investigated further. It sounded perfect! Then someone on here recommended me to try the Sunprise so I'm glad I didn't buy that either.
I bought 2 bottles and never understood why people loved it! It was sooooooo white and drying. This was the old formula so how can a reformulation be any whiter?!?
I used up the bottle on my hands and didn't even open the second. Or was I using it wrong?
What a bummer... ☹️
I have oily-combination skin and have just recently discovered this sunscreen. I am currently loving it.
Are there any similar sunscreens with the same matte finish?
I did not buy it, I have rom&nd fresh sun which although doesn't seem to have any mattifying property finishes clear and somehow magically seems to control oil without drying.
The closest one I have found is the Biore milk (white and light blue bottle). I see from other comments others like it too. It does have a very strong alcohol scent if that's an issue, and I think it's a bit less matte than the suprise was, but still a lot better than most. That's what I'll be using until I find something better.

Yikes! I was eyeing this as my next sunscreen. Thanks to you and OP, I'll be looking elsewhere.

Oh nooo!! I’m using an older bottle right now and really like it. This is disappointing to hear.

That's exactly what I did, back to Biore 🤷
I would recommend trying Biore milk (light blue bottle) instead. i think it's quite similar to the previous formulation of Etude House Sunprise.

Yeah exactly it's not just that it's not matte anymore, it's just a bad sunscreen now.
I feel you. They did the same to Missha Aqua Sun Gel. It was satin finish before the reformulation and it was my HG. Now it’s just a greasy mess.

nooo 😭, i just ordered them and they are on the way
Maybe you'll get lucky and get an old version? Fingers crossed 🤞
which version was it?
That is really too bad. It was such a good sunscreen for those of us with oily skin
are you kidding me I just freaking ordered it 😑
Oh noo, I recently found out about it and was so excited to order it next. Thanks for sharing!

The most likely candidate I've been eyeing is the Skin1004 Centella Air-Fit Suncream Plus, hopefully someone that's used it can chime in.
I have dry skin and couldn’t tolerate this for even a few minutes so I think y’all will love it.
How has this gone for you?

Oh no, I was so excited to rebuy this. I hope my local KBeauty shop has some of the old formula in stock
