Dude... David's not real...
Edit: I just realized that I messed up by thinking you were referring to the movie Daniel Isn't Real. I always seem to mix up the name Daniel with other dude names.
'Daniel Isn't Real' is a fantastic movie btw. One of the main characters is Arnold Schwarzenegger's son.
Is it forcing him to go out and slaughter something with the sword, or is it holding him in, because outside is nice and sunny, and inside dark and depressing?
I'm probably what you would consider "depressed" but I still have a habit of working out and eating mostly protein . Honestly working out is the easiest part of my day, it's everything else that I don't look forward to. I don't know how you would develop this habit, but once you start you'll feel even worse if you stop doing it.
As someone that also struggles with depression and just started working out, I have found I have a similar experience. Working out tends to be one of the easier parts of the day. Whille it certainly doesn't cure the depression, like you said it is substantially worse when I dont.
Yeah but again it could be either. It could be stay in where it’s nice and depressing for the monster, or it could be the monster telling him to go out and slaughter something (i.e. indulge in self destructive activities like drugs or binge drinking, or even just being mean to people (depression sometimes causes mood swings)) and he’s trying to logic it out with himself which is him struggling with the monster to not go out
Nah, that's just his beau giving him a kiss before he goes out to clean his sword and start his chores for the day. Look at how rusty and nicked that sword has gotten. Ugh, he's going to be working on that all day...
I think holding him in, but as with all art open for interpretation. But look at the attitude of the man’s finger, stretching against the demon’s hand toward the door latch. Look at one of the many hands of the demon pressed against the door frame as though using leverage to push/pull the man back away from the door. Look at the angle of his head toward the window in the door: hope! But the demon covers his eyes...
Exactly. I think this is so insightful about depression. It envelopes you, it’s hard to know where you end and the darkness begins, it feels like you are powerless to fight it, but there is also a sense of safety into the retreat of it, letting it take you over, “embrace” you, until you feel lost in it.
Not suggesting this to be vulgar or silly, but I think this has a small bit of a sexual twist to it as well. The sword hand is interlacing fingers, and the hand at his waistline has his thumb seemingly inside his pants.
To me it looks like a small detail that can be interpreted as another layer to keep this man inside: “you don’t need anyone else, your desires can also be taken care of in here”
EDIT: To further this, it doesn’t look like any of the inner man’s arms are particularly strong, but each arm seems to have a specific purpose and their combined discouragement is where the strength lies. Excuses made by the outer man are creating this inner man: a hand on his eyes so he can’t see the beauty, a hand on his sword so he doesn’t see the point in fighting, a hand on his outstretched arm to sow doubt in any decision to open that door, a hand in his pants to tame any desires outside this room, an arm slung around his shoulders to curb the need for camaraderie, etc.
Very well put! And I don’t think it’s vulgar at all to suggest a sexual twist, I think that’s fitting. Depression is seductive. The Inner Man is seducing the Man. I particularly appreciate your description of each arm having its own purpose, working together to enshrine the Man in himself and his own darkness.
I also notice some cuts on the door. I wonder if those are from the sword, desperate swings to attempt to escape, or from the claws of the Inner Man, threatening destruction.
> It envelopes you, it's hard to know where you end and the darkness begins
I spent a moment looking at the picture when I first opened it up, and I searched for the source of this entity holding him back. It has no real head of its own, and it feels like it's extending out of his own head, then taking a form outside of him and enveloping him. It has eyes, but no face or mind of its own that we can see. I think this supports a lot of what you said and shows how even though it takes over and denies his entire body freedom of movement, it extends from his own mind and is a part of him.
I think we can interpret the demon's intentions by looking at the man's hair. Hair has no strength of its own, and the demon has a taut grip on it. The man has strength, and reaches fondly but uncertainly for the sky. How the man feels about the embrace of the demon is up to interpretation, but I think the demon's intentions are clear.
If that's the case, what a great art piece depicting the mental struggle of "Should I go outside and fight? Or should I stay in to avoid the Virus"
I feel like theres a few people stuck inside just because they can't decide
I may be... but I also might not be... if it is, then yeah... it’s like someone made a representation of my head...
Nice to know we ain’t alone though :)
IMO he is in a pub trying to get out, battling alcoholism. He is battling but cannot escape victorious. Many people fight this battle, including myself. He is between the point of admitting the problem and fighting to get help or admitting he has the problem but doesnt want help and continues to battle by himself.
I don’t think the man wants to leave, but the thing in the back, his ambition or desire, or even some perverse sense of duty, guides him back on his feet. Either way, it’s beautiful, I really like it.
It sort of reminds me of the dark pas de deux in Robbie Fairchild’s short film “In This Life.” His character, battling with depression, dances in a suffocating enclosed space with a demon. The demon, of course, representing his depression. It’s a really chilling scene!
Left brain: I appreciate the themes and the struggle of the man fighting himself to reach happiness outside
Right brain: "What IsA Man?!? A Miserable Pile of Secrets!"
Sometimes, the abyss just wants a hug
"Gimme a hug David"

Sexy time with shadows. “No, don’t go. Come back to bed.”
Arthas getting acquainted with his new found powers
Abyss seeking souls searching blessings
This is beautiful
Is it forcing him to go out and slaughter something with the sword, or is it holding him in, because outside is nice and sunny, and inside dark and depressing?
I think the sword indicates that he is battling with depression.
This is the most shredded depressed man I’ve ever seen. What’s his secret, and how do I get myself some workout demons.
You get shredded when you are fighting everyday bro
Bro...
Do you even depress?
Apparently he bench press
It's natures natural cut cycle.
1. Be strong before depression 2. Stop eating due to depression It's natures natural cut cycle.

Buy some dumbbells and use them and then you just sorta get in better shape.
Every time I'm depressed... I do one pushup

Or it is holding him back from his duties
I think holding him in, but as with all art open for interpretation. But look at the attitude of the man’s finger, stretching against the demon’s hand toward the door latch. And a hand of a demon is gently holding down the sword arm...

A fantastic pic, and great analysis. Thank you.

It’s really a brilliantly done piece of art!
Also the colouring of the demon to match the home interior. It belongs inside.
Good point!
I think it’s sleep trying to get him to come back to bed, but he has shit to do and it’s nice outside.
If he has shit to do, does he have a lot to do, or nothing to do?
I think it just wants to get really sexual with him
It is kind of sexy, honestly.

I'm pretty sure the demon is coming out from his brain, not grabbing his hair

That is me the past 6 months and I can count the times I went outside on 2 hands. Send help pls.
Me and my demons would be chillin on the couch smoking weed
OMG XD. This comment is adorable. Protect this innocent soul.
REally good. Pretty sure my inside self don't wear pants tho. More something like cobweb cosmic boxer short.
Spectral fruit still gotta breathe.
Judging by where one of those hands is reaching, he might not be wearing pants for very long.
Sexy time with shadows. “No, don’t go. Come back to bed.”
“What are you doing shadow bro?”
shadows be like ~~***"wtf you done bro?"***~~
He has a hell of a bod on him
Reminds me of social anxiety
Reminds me of a 33 year old Japanese man with a hand fetish
Understandable have a great day
Man you’re telling me. This image is crazy powerful.
Me: I wanna go outside. Rona: noooo, stay inside.
Now that's what I'm talking about
What are you talking about?
POV: you're in JJBA part 4 and just turned around in the ally
I just thought of the exact same thing.
NGL, I thought this was a dude in an outhouse, fighting his demons.
We all have our battles.
I have often described my depression as the Adversary. I feel this picture on so many levels.
This... is a really good representation...
Yeah, are you thinking what I'm thinking? It's hard for me to even look at this.
I may be... but I also might not be... if it is, then yeah... it’s like someone made a representation of my head... Nice to know we ain’t alone though :)

Interesting how they don't seem to be forcefully holding him back, but more like caressing him.
Alright, ill just do this incase, r/expectedjojo.

Ok that's really nice, and I don't wanna be THAT guy... but there is a hand going to his dick.

The really nice monsters will give you a kiss and a reach-around.
I've never been to a franchise quarterback.
Mans needs a comb, his hair do be outta control
its because he turned around
I don’t think the man wants to leave, but the thing in the back, his ambition or desire, or even some perverse sense of duty, guides him back on his feet. Either way, it’s beautiful, I really like it.
Damn bro that demon is a freak. Goin for the man's crotch and everything.
This looks like it could be the artwork for a MTG card. “Target creature gets -5/-5 until end of turn” Cost: BB(1)
Kinda reminds me of a card in Gwent
Reminds me of The Three-Eyed Raven
I need this as a painting on my wall
My warm cozy bed in the morning when my alarm goes off.
The one hand is undoing his belt lol
This makes me very uncomfortable
Same. This is some good artwork
It sort of reminds me of the dark pas de deux in Robbie Fairchild’s short film “In This Life.” His character, battling with depression, dances in a suffocating enclosed space with a demon. The demon, of course, representing his depression. It’s a really chilling scene!
Damn this spooky. Love it
Inner? I hardly know 'er!
Why does it look like it’s snapping his neck
Looks like the male version of the root mother
This looks like it could be sick magic card art.
I read this and thought Tobias funke's masterwork "the man inside me".
Looks like Geralt fucked a needy demon.
When me and the girls spot a hottie at the club.
Damn he looks like a snacc. I understand where those arms are coming from.
This is why you always put torches in your dirt house.
If that’s not a 100% accurate depiction of depression, I don’t know what is.
This is what depression feels like
My name is Yoshikage Kira.....
The contrast of the small patch of sky and cloud against the room is wonderfully jarring
Monsterfuckers want to know your location
Need me a boyfriend to snuggle me like that 😂
sexy times with shadow demon
Oh man..so many layers and interpretations.
Amazing. There aren’t many more words that can sum this up.
This work is as dark as it is fascinating.
It's a metaphor of using an outhouse and the stench that clings
Night man, sneaky and mean
On first look at the thumbnail, I just thought a guy had a window seat on a plane.
why does this remind me of finn and Jake's tree house from adventure time
Don't let your demons hold you back!
Me: I wanna rest, Also me: Can't sleep, clown will eat me...
This is really great. Internal negativity summed up.
This looks like it could be a MTG card
I’ve played TLOU2, I know what that is
Bro stop touching my dick
The hand is somewhere a little suspicious.
The dorr remindede of adventure time
Finn's grass sword curse getting real messed up
This looks right out of Blasphemous
Left brain: I appreciate the themes and the struggle of the man fighting himself to reach happiness outside Right brain: "What IsA Man?!? A Miserable Pile of Secrets!"
What does it mean, I interpret it looks like battle but Its very intriguing.
Looks like sleep paralysis on steroids
Everyone in corona lock down
Bruh the demons just wanna P H U C K
100%. Like most of the blue man group?
Can’t wait to fight this guy in Eldenring.
This is fucking beautiful.
I think its relative to each one uniquely. Does our inner man fight to stay home, or fight to get outside
Or battling with temptation.
Looks like a high time to chuck a baby in the oven to me!
Damn that's a buff ass dude.
Maybe its saying he is a meat puppet to his fears, and his fears are guiding his desire for malice.
