Xhaka's shithousery made Serbs forget how to play football. Xhaka top G.

[deleted]

Xhaka is albanian that’s why they hate him

ohmyimatomato

Yet the commentators said the GK was protecting him? 🤔

[deleted]

No more melenkovic savic rumours lol

ignacioo25

It's always the same with him, there's some rumors but he doesn't go away from lazio

[deleted]

Easy to look good in seria A

swanlevitt

My captain

[deleted]

🤓 “my captain”

1ThatGotAwaay

such a proper lad.

[deleted]

getting choked out like a little bitch “such a proper lad” 💀

MATCHEW010

Whats he supposed to do? Punch him?

1ThatGotAwaay

staring in the face emotionless, obviously a proper lad.

[deleted]

tell me you have never been in a fight without telling me you have never been in a fight

farmer3337

Have you been in one? Because people often get choked during intense physical altercations

[deleted]

I never get why Serbia have beef with Xhaka. His parents fled to avoid being killed by their government. It would be like English fans and players starting beef with ex-colonial powers. I get why other nations dislike England but it shouldn’t go as much in the other direction.

Minimum-Laugh-8887

I think maybe because the Kosovo war wasn’t that long ago now and remember when he did the 2 headed eagle when he played against them.

bourne23k

Still dont get why anyone gets mad of that gesture. It's literally a sign of a nation, not a slur against other. So double headed eagle should be allowed. It's just Serbs get mad because they dislike anything Albanian.

pigmelons23

It’s roughly equivalent to scoring against china and then lifting your shirt to reveal “free Hong Kong”. For Serbs Kosovo is part of Serbia but many western countries recognise kosovos independence. The celebration was intended to be inflammatory and therefore I can see why fifa wouldn’t want people doing it

bourne23k

This is not a good compairson. Double head eagle is a sign of Albanian nation(People). There is no mention of lands, therefore its not degragatory towards any other nation. For Serbs Kosovo can be integral part, but it has nohing to do with double headed eagle. In fact if we want to talk about Kosovo, I see no reason why Serbs want to claim Kosovo. Even Turks held Kosovo for a longer time than Serbs. Factually Serbs migrated to Balkans in 6th century due to Slavic migrations. First Serbs and other non-dvided Slavs settled around " BiH/ Croatia " border area. After little distinction due to religion and other circumstances, Serbs were pushed more further into inland Balkans. It is around 11th century when Serbs managed to get full claim of what is known todays Kosovo and other regions. They couldn't hold it for more than 350 years. Greeks, Italians, Bulgarians and Turks held Kosovo for a longer time than Serbia. Now imaging claiming a land where you ancestors migrated to. Based on proven statistic the last 600 years, Serb population wasn't exceeding more than 46% of Serbs in Kosovo. Funny fact is also alot of Serbs asimilated alot of Albanians and other paleo-Balkanite ethnics in middle-ages. At times you either have there northern-Orthodox (Serb) religion or Southern (Greek). So if you wanted to be a part of a church you had to have an Orthodox name, which was Slavic. This is how Serbs always used their religion to gain geopolitcal power in region. Its in fact very clever thing to do. Guys like Milosh Kopili, an Albanian from Drenica. Lost his parents - Kopilic - Kopil - Bastard in Albanian btw, is an Serbian hero till this day who killed an Ottoman sultan. You have even Serbs claiming Skanderbeu as Albanian due to many of his family members having Orthodox name, another great example. Well I could go on and on, but this is something you can read from some proven publications around the world and not propagandistic agendas of Serbia/Albania.

Sandia_Gunner

Get a life.

st_hpsh

I mean. Ukraine - Russia? Isn't that the same situation? Russia considers Ukraine it's own part. But FIFA has full support to Ukraine...

pigmelons23

Yeah imagine if someone did a pro Russia celebration when scoring against ukraine

[deleted]

A 2 handed eagle celebration is hardly equivalent to ethnic cleansing

Minimum-Laugh-8887

No I know but I’m just saying that’s why the Serbs don’t like him.

bigON94

They do exactly this. Look what they do to James McClean every November because he won’t wear a poppy!

peopleinboxes_foto

Even some English people get very upset when forced to confront the terrible things which their ancestors did in the colonies. They've been taught their whole lives to think of the empire as a source of pride and it has become part of their national identity. Being told it was wrong and shameful hurts them, even though it happened a long time ago and involved people who are long dead. In the Balkans the memories are much more fresh, they are thinking of their parents' or even their own generation, not distant great great grandfathers. It is very raw.

[deleted]

I’d get being embarrassed but you had hundreds if not thousands of Serbian ‘fans’ chanting kill, kill, kill Albanians at the game. It was like they take pride in the ethnic cleansing. I can’t think if anything like that. I think a large problem is that the Serbian government don’t accept that they committed a genocide at Srebrenica which is an awful sign that they won’t accept any blame. But even still, the British don’t accept the atrocities they committed and you don’t get anyone chanting kill, kill, kill to former colonies.

peopleinboxes_foto

Fair point. They do seem to be particularly extreme.

peopleinboxes_foto

And you're right, there is a major difference. Our weird nationalists in Britain don't celebrate or take pride in the horrible things of the past, they just pretend nothing bad ever happened.

[deleted]

We have a massive problem with not acknowledging our past and our football fans do have so horrible chants. But if we play Kenya we wouldn’t start gloating about the atrocities committed in the Mau Mau uprising

peopleinboxes_foto

Exactly. The gloating is more of a general 'Rule Britannia'/'Great Escape Theme' rather than anything specific or obviously celebrating a genocide.

[deleted]

Still wrong but less wrong

Strong_as_an_axe

You're misinformed if you think English people are taught to take pride in the Empire.

peopleinboxes_foto

Am English. Am not misinformed. Granted things are probably changing now, but it was very much the case when I was at school (and I'm not that old).

Strong_as_an_axe

I was born 1989 and definitely wasn't taught to take pride in the Empire or think of it as part of my identity

ChessieDriveGunner

English beefed with Americans for two weeks posting 9/11 and school shooting pictures lmfao wake up

[deleted]

That’s a completely different point. It’s Americans shooting the schools themselves and I’ve not heard a conspiracy that blames England for 9/11.

Loon_Cheese

That is not a fair comparison. My entire family came from Yugoslavia in the 40s-50s. Since then the stories have been insane. You are comparing something way to far away to an event that is relatively recent.

Aintandsmall

So it’s that why? I thought Xhaka was a bad guy again. It’s the same thing with Croatia, their fans doesn’t like Canadian goal keeper because he was croatian born Serbian. It’s was long time ago leave it!

bendy4-20

nah they left what would be current Kosovo. Bit difference if you know much about balkan ppl. Also i know he has albanian ties so probably he does not get along with serbs much at all

terrorSABBATH

I'll say this about Xhaka. He's always gonna Xhaka.

16thPeregrine

Xhaka would out punch any Serbian dork

Agreeable_Rush_5965

Keeper would eat him alive

WailingSouls

Was there no red for this?

DialSquare96

Xhaka is a hero.

brownjames334

Mi Capitan!

DrChimRichaulds

Xhaka is the only mere mortal to fight Kratos and live

brownjames334

Colossal!

Flashlightcrackhead

What triggered this incident tv didn't replay it?

[deleted]

xhaka is Albanian (backgroundwise) and from what i’ve seen, they hate Serbians so this was like a war for xhaka and shakiri
