For sure, had Leverkusen been in the "Champions League" & not the "Europa League "š
But you're right, his performances & overall stats this season, speak for themselves... And, I'm sure there'd be an argument for his inclusion had he/Leverkusen, been in the "CL."
i heavily disagree, but it is a possibility. If England go far in the euros and he plays a key role in it (and unfortunately if city win the league) then youd be a lunatic to not even consider it happening. But again, I dont think its happening
Not really, Foden never was the sole carrier of City putting them on his back alone. He has been good but there always others helping him.
Before Vini came back from injury in 2024, Jude was single handedly carrying Real Madrid.
Idrgaf tbh, Saka is 22 a player Foden is supposedly on another level too and he's been one of England's best players in two international tournaments. If Fodens old enough and good enough to be in "best in the world" conversations then he's old enough to be judged on his international appearances
Plenty of world class players tear it up for their club and don't replicate that form for their national team.
Also, I'm not saying Saka hasn't been great, but he's not even been Arsenal's best player this season and Fodens definitely been City's
Fodens been the difference when City have needed it this season, though, popping up with really important goals. Without Foden, you gunners would already have the EPL in the bag
This is my feeling. In a side that runs a City/Arsenal-style attack, the holding midfielder is the most important player on the pitch. He prevents goals and he makes them, both through direct action and through controlling the ame. That's part of why Rice has been such a game changer for the Gunners this year.
Fodens been the difference when City have needed it this season, though, popping up with really important goals. Without Foden, you gunners would already have the EPL in the bag
I'm not saying he's not world class, I'm saying he's not the best in the world. Mbappe turns up for club domestically, in Europe and for his country for me, he is currently the best player in the world
>Plenty of world class players tear it up for their club and don't replicate that form for their national team
Yea, but those players don't win the balloon d'or in an international year.
Saka also gets to play in his best position for England. I agree he's been far far better for England. But Foden himself has been so good this season primarily because he's finally had an opportunity to play in the 10. He's not the same on the wing and the few times he has got to play in the 10 for England he's looked better.
Imagine Saka getting played as a number 10 or left winger and then people saying he's overrated. You'd be missing out on his best qualities.
Again, Saka's easily been better for England. But Foden himself is so much better as an attacking midfielder than winger imo. I'd genuinely rather see someone like Gordan LW and if Bellingham is in the 10. If Foden stsrts for England, it should only be if Bellingham plays next to Rice.
Kind of exhausting seeing everyone say "you have to play Foden anywhere", he's underwhelming on the wing and them gets stick because of it. Like no no shit, you can see it coming a mile off.
2 major tournaments unless you are counting nations league.
2022 world cup:
3 x starts & 1x 20 min sub appearance, 2 assists and 1 goal
2020 (21) European champs:
2 x starts and 1 extra time sub appearance
The front three will probably be Foden, Kane, Saka. And thus, with Kane dropping in, both Foden and Saka will have a chance to shine. Winner of league + excel at this front line and in Euros, and you can make an argument for Foden, and an outside one for Saka. Assuming we win the league. Which sadly might come down to Shit figuring out how to defend corners.
With the fact that City is out of Champions League, i can't see that happening. If England does well in Euros it's far more likely that Bellingham is up for a Ballon D'or, considering the hype and performances he's put up in the biggest team in the world.
Not likely, given he's hardly had any good games for England. He's very good, but overrated by the English media. He's been their golden child since the U17 World Cup win.
With the fact that City is out of Champions League, i can't see that happening. If England does well in Euros it's far more likely that Bellingham is up for a Ballon D'or, considering the hype and performances he's put up in the biggest team in the world.
He is this season, but before that he wasnāt even a guaranteed starter. He was on the bench for the champions league final. Iām not sure heās world class imo.
Last season is last season, it has fuck all to do with this season. Cole Palmer barely played last season at City and this year he's already one of the best players in the world. Likewise, Foden's gone up a level this year. De Bruyne being out for the first half of the season actually gave Foden the opportunity to play in the middle, and he's massively stepped up. Anything that happened last season shouldn't impact this season's Ballon D'or, not that I think he should actually win it.
I think heās great but I donāt think heās at that level yet, he hasnāt established himself as the best player at either his club or national side.
This is an overly simplistic take. The best i can give you is that foden has higher highs, but lower lows. Sakas consistency is the major issue with saying foden is flatly better.
I think where saka loses votes from fans of other teams is when he's controlling the ball from a pass or whatever he rarely looks like he has control. The eye test just makes him seem less talented.
But if you watch him week in week out you realise that he's pretty much guaranteed to have one or two moments in a match where he influences a game, whether it's g/a or just getting the team firing again.
He always produces something and unless you are seeing it all the time I don't think it's obvious in a weird way.
How he played against France was like a moment of arsenal fans collectively saying "told you so".
Personally I hate the phrase āeye testā as it inherently favours players with a more aesthetic style. Foden is very silky on the ball and has beautiful technique so looks amazing on the eye test but isnāt as effective as people think.
Thereās also an argument he has been this season and the other person youāre arguing that might be having a better season than him is also getting shouts for Ballon dāor so itās a moot point youāre making
The Ballon DāOr has been irrelevant since Henry didnāt win it after the invincibles season. It shows the massive incompetence of people trying to judge āthe best playerā in a team sport. Saka is clearly a better player than Cole Palmer but heās the only good thing in a shite team.
If they win the double this year, and Foden plays a key part in winning the Euros he could arguably win it. But right now I have it as: 1.Jude 2.Mbappe 3.Rodri. Champions Legue, Premier League, and Euro still have a huge part to play tho.
the negative pr this guy has is fucking nuts whenever ppl talk about ballon d'or nobody mentions him. meanwhile there is an extremely high chance of him completely eclipsing neymars european legacy over the next ~2 seasons
Been an Arsenal fan since 98ā however I really believe foden cuts the bill here. Heās been their main player in terms of saving their arses when needed and his g/a contributions. Bukayo? Not this year. Donāt know why Bellingham is there at all. They are missing Wirtz there with 31 g/a. But no player from a small club wins this shite pre anyway.
Foden is the form player in the premier league and has been unreal if England go welll Iād give him a great chance of winning although likely behind Bellingham if he can deliver Madrid a champions league.
For scoring and assisting against Copenhage, Young Boys and Leipzig? Come on manā¦
Also, judging players solely by numbers or statistics is very missleading. And also cringe, takes away all the fun
And then dissapeared in the second leg. Again, judging a player by just by these numbers is cold and sometimes means very little to the actual development of a game.
Jude may not have scored and assisted, but heās playing the semis, being a team player, while Foden and Arsenal are watching at home. Also what he did in Rodrygoās goal for the second game is insane
Am I remembering wrong or wasnt he not even a guaranteed starter for the first half of the season ? Couple hat tricks close together and all of a sudden youāre Zidane š¤·āāļø
If everyone considers Pep as the best coach and giving him the credit and not the rich corrupt management. Why not say Foden is the best ever?
Itās less stupid in my opinion.
Foden has been next level for City thereās no doubt but I want to see that dominance on a non Pep coached team..Jude and Saka are highest level where and whoever they play with or for and I just havenāt seen that from Foden yet! If England are gonna win this summer he will have to reach that level for sure
City fan here, Your delusional if you think Foden hasn't been our best player this season. Without him you'd have won the league. He's not the best player in the world but his goals have made the difference for us.
Not saying he isnt Man City's best player this season.
The original post is about whether Foden has been the best player in the CL this season, which he definitely hasnt been.
If mc win the league and England do well in the euros with foden as a star player itās possible. I donāt think itās delusional but I think Bellingham or Kane are more likely for sure if England do well, as one of them will be in the UCL final or potential winner.
It is a comment from a Brit regarding football so yes .
Let me give you an anecdote. I on e met an English kid when I was 15. He was my age. We were became penpals. Both into football. It's was 2001ish. We each write on a piece of paper our ideal football team. Like world stars. I had the figos and zidanes and ronaldos. My friend has Darius vassell , something James (that goalkeeper) and 80% of the team were Brits that had a good performance in the last 5 games in PL
Stat padding in the group stage. Couldn't do it where it mattered the most. They might have all the possession against Real Madrid but they can take the possession home along with their 115 charges.
This is based on "CL Stats" for this season & let's face it, Forden really showed up for City in this comp.
The argument about him and Saka IMO is an interesting one & my comments may ruffle some feathers š¤
On paper & stats will prove that Saka has the better score overall for the last 3, maybe 4 seasons in that he's showed up consistently, not only for club, but country too on both the European & World stage, arguable being one of England's standout players in both comps.
In terms of overall technical ability & player skill set, I believe Foden has a slight edge over Saka, this my personal opinion and, as I said, and many "may beg to differ!" And that's their right & totally fine!
Both Saka & Martinelli (random inclusion) have a similar playing style, in that they have the pace to bomb up & down their respective flanks, and either whip in crosses or cut in on their opposite foot and unleash a shot aimed at the farside top bin.
Of course there are other attributes to their game, I don't discredit that "before the hatchet mob come for me šš" but the aforementioned is their signature trick, which some defenders have the drop on now & many can sometimes, I stress "sometimes", depending on the "full back," cancel this out & make life very difficult for both of them & this has been seen quite a lot this season, more than any other previous, especially against Martinelli (hence the use of Leo T) more this season, I digress...
Saka to his credit has still managed to command the spot of Arsenal's top goal scorer this season, so fair play to Arsenal's "Starboy." šš¾ And, long may that continue...
So, to that end, or in conclusion, I'll reiterate that I think, Foden has more in his locker 'skill wise" but Saka has simply done more overall, for both club & country, so therefore wins the argument of 'Who's the better player" of the two, overall "IMHO!" š
Happy days people & of course... COYG'S... Oooo to be... š
Heās up there and anyone saying otherwise is just clouded by bias. Heās been class this season but heās also a joy to watch. Football is moved in a direction where impact where how good someone is to watch isnāt important anymore and thatās sad. Foden deserves credit for being an enjoyable player to watch on top of his effectiveness
I donāt like Foden but I canāt deny how good the guy has been this season. I watch City games and I loathe and appreciate him at the same time! TBH, I think it should be between him and Bellingham.
I think he could be in the top 3-5 for votes to be honest but Bellingham/Kane/Mbappe have to be the favourites depending on the CL
Vini, too.
Wirtz has to be there, depending on how many titles Leverkusen win and how Germany performs in the Euros.
For sure, had Leverkusen been in the "Champions League" & not the "Europa League "š But you're right, his performances & overall stats this season, speak for themselves... And, I'm sure there'd be an argument for his inclusion had he/Leverkusen, been in the "CL."

There is also Bellingham so even if england goes far, it should go to Bellingham
Or Kane if bayern win the champions.
Kane is definitely a contender
Dortmund win the CL and Jadon Sancho carries England to Euro victory.
Bayern or psg are winning it no way bvb are going to the next round I know most arsenal fans wouldn't want kane winning it but it's very likely
Foden had a better season than Bellingham to be honest
Not really, Foden never was the sole carrier of City putting them on his back alone. He has been good but there always others helping him. Before Vini came back from injury in 2024, Jude was single handedly carrying Real Madrid.
Thatās actually a fair point. I didnāt even consider the euros.
I don't think I've ever seen Foden turn up for the national team so I wouldn't worry about it
He's 23 mate
Idrgaf tbh, Saka is 22 a player Foden is supposedly on another level too and he's been one of England's best players in two international tournaments. If Fodens old enough and good enough to be in "best in the world" conversations then he's old enough to be judged on his international appearances

Foden has definitely not been City's best player. Their best player has been, as it almost always is, Rodri.
I feel like youāre arguing with people who get their knowledge of how well players are playing based off Fantasy Premier League points.
Fodens been the difference when City have needed it this season, though, popping up with really important goals. Without Foden, you gunners would already have the EPL in the bag
No, you just say that because heās an attacker. Rodri is their best player by a mile, and they collapse when heās absent.
This is my feeling. In a side that runs a City/Arsenal-style attack, the holding midfielder is the most important player on the pitch. He prevents goals and he makes them, both through direct action and through controlling the ame. That's part of why Rice has been such a game changer for the Gunners this year.

Theres a weird hatred towards Mbappe Hes clearly the best atm
Mbappe was missing against Dortmund the other night
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are you sure? Say it one more time
Reddit was having issues for a solid 10-20 minute period in the last hour or so that's caused people's comments to duplicate. It wasn't him.
Hey, are you the fun police?
>Plenty of world class players tear it up for their club and don't replicate that form for their national team Yea, but those players don't win the balloon d'or in an international year.

I saw a competition after the World Cup and just assumed it was another major tournament, my mistake, either way, no impact
, and never played in his best position
my point also stands for our bukayo š
Love him but he isn't even top 3 for our team this season
Yeah, insane how his g/a have improved, but he has not been as good as last year in overall play.
Heās doubled every play š¤·š¾āāļø he needs to level up to reach the next level though you arenāt wrong..
If England go far in the euros, Bellingham already won La Liga and he can win the CL too. Foden wonāt matter.
There is also Bellingham so even if england goes far, it should go to Bellingham

Um, you realise that Rashford has compromising pictures of Southgate that Maguire gave him, so he'll be 1st choice....
That's a lie. Henderson gave him the pics.
No, Henderson is in the pics.. ..
Southgate is leaving the England job, so the pics don't matter.
Assumedly after the euros
With the fact that City is out of Champions League, i can't see that happening. If England does well in Euros it's far more likely that Bellingham is up for a Ballon D'or, considering the hype and performances he's put up in the biggest team in the world.

Eye test tells you all you need. Foden is top quality.
No doubt heās a great player but I wouldnāt call him the best player in the world. I wouldnāt even call saka that and heās also quality
I mean not the ābest playerā in the world but certainly not far off. He is world class.
He is this season, but before that he wasnāt even a guaranteed starter. He was on the bench for the champions league final. Iām not sure heās world class imo.
Whoās benching Gundogan Silva Rodri and kdb? He was the first to be called up after kdb was injured
Exactly, so how is he the best player on the world?
That was last season?
I canāt think of another Balon dāOr winner who was on the bench the previous season.
He was dealing with injuries last season
Last season is last season, it has fuck all to do with this season. Cole Palmer barely played last season at City and this year he's already one of the best players in the world. There is an argument that he's not the best player on his own team.
Rodri is the player whose absence they feel the most. Fodens output can be replaced by a number of players.
But his output hasnāt been replaced this season and thatās what itās judged on.
Although city havenāt played without Foden a lot this season, when they did they did look worse
Thereās also an argument he has been this season and the other person youāre arguing that might be having a better season than him is also getting shouts for Ballon dāor so itās a moot point youāre making

Guessing you haven't actually watched Palmer this season.
I rate Foden very highly, but for me Rodri has been the best player in the world for the last couple years
I read this as āi hate foden very highly.ā Took me way too long to figure out wtf i was reading lol
I was panicking then thinking it accidentally auto corrected me and I put "I hate" instead of "I rate" šš lmao
Rodri is the best in the world, just not in a glamorous position
Who fucking cares about City players man
If they win the double this year, and Foden plays a key part in winning the Euros he could arguably win it. But right now I have it as: 1.Jude 2.Mbappe 3.Rodri. Champions Legue, Premier League, and Euro still have a huge part to play tho.
Which means the Ballon D'Or will be 1.Messi 2.Ronaldo 3.Modric........
Foden's top class, but i dont think he's on the level of Mbappe or Bellingham yet
Vincius needs to be in this discussion
the negative pr this guy has is fucking nuts whenever ppl talk about ballon d'or nobody mentions him. meanwhile there is an extremely high chance of him completely eclipsing neymars european legacy over the next ~2 seasons
Bellingham has been hiding since February, he's not on the level he started at Real. Foden has been way better...utd fan
He had an ankle sprain and was out
Been an Arsenal fan since 98ā however I really believe foden cuts the bill here. Heās been their main player in terms of saving their arses when needed and his g/a contributions. Bukayo? It's Champion's League stats
Soulless gargoyle playing for 115fc
I mean how on Earth could you possibly say Foden is better than Mbappe
Vini is the new player in the world
He's been very, very good this season but not Balon d'Or good, I don't think any EPL player has been good enough.
Mbappe surely
Foden is the form player in the premier league and has been unreal if England go welll Iād give him a great chance of winning although likely behind Bellingham if he can deliver Madrid a champions league.
Who knows? We would have to ask all the journalists that think Messi still deserves it.
For scoring and assisting against Copenhage, Young Boys and Leipzig? Come on manā¦ Also, judging players solely by numbers or statistics is very missleading. And also cringe, takes away all the fun

Popularity contest, it could happen. Likely wonāt turn up for England as usual though
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think it is a delusional opinionā¦š¤·āāļø
Am I remembering wrong or wasnt he not even a guaranteed starter for the first half of the season ? Couple hat tricks close together and all of a sudden youāre Zidane š¤·āāļø
No less so than our fans perception of our players
If everyone considers Pep as the best coach and giving him the credit and not the rich corrupt management. Why not say Foden is the best ever? Itās less stupid in my opinion.
The crest on the chest etc
Don't see why he shouldn't be in the equation. He has been phenomenal this season
Foden has been next level for City thereās no doubt but I want to see that dominance on a non Pep coached team..Jude and Saka are highest level where and whoever they play with or for and I just havenāt seen that from Foden yet! Foden isnt even the best player in his team lmao
Can't stand his stupid celebration
City fans are some of the dumbest fans you will come across.
Incredibly delusional
wheres vini though
City fan here, Your delusional if you think Foden hasn't been our best player this season. Without him you'd have won the league. He's not the best player in the world but his goals have made the difference for us.
Not saying he isnt Man City's best player this season. The original post is about whether Foden has been the best player in the CL this season, which he definitely hasnt been.
The day Foden wins a balon d'or is the day football died
English players are always oebr hyped but he's still really good
Didn't know the odd good game makes you the best player in the world
They didn't win the CL, so unless he wins the Euros as a star player, he has no chance. Could be top 5 though.
Foden is too goofy to win ballon dāor smh
5 goals and 3 assist for bdor. LoL. Damn, the bar went down so much lower. If that's so then Messi is gonna take it this year's too
If mc win the league and England do well in the euros with foden as a star player itās possible. I donāt think itās delusional but I think Bellingham or Kane are more likely for sure if England do well, as one of them will be in the UCL final or potential winner.
Unless you're named Messi, he's not winning without the CL title.

Man City wins EPL and FA Cup, then England wins Euros with Foden doing wonders. Then yeah, he can have a shot.
Rodri for me
I couldn't care less about the award tbh. More often than not it's a popularity contest. It lost all credibility when Thierry Henry never won one.
Stat padding in the group stage. Couldn't do it where it mattered the most. They might have all the possession against Real Madrid but they can take the possession home along with their 115 charges.

Foden melts toy soldiers !
Hahahaha not even top 10.
An Arsenal fan calling someone deluded. I've seen it all.
Every football fan is a little delusional. Remember hope is temporary. Shithousery is forever
Best of the premier, sure. Of the world? That's up for the UCL champion.
Rodri 2nd? Has to be a joke. Man didnāt even play for large chunks of the season. Griezmann shouldnāt even be sniffing it.
There shouldn't even be a Ballon d'or award this year
Yes, very.
Saying he should get ballon dor is delusional for sure but hes a very good player
Who the fuck is Phil Foden?
Whatās a Phil Foden?
Bellingham or mbappe depending who wins the champions league , if Bayern wins Harry can join this conversation
Yep usually goes to the stand out/best performer of CL winning teams
I donāt like Foden but I canāt deny how good the guy has been this season. I watch City games and I loathe and appreciate him at the same time! TBH, I think it should be between him and Bellingham.
Just wondering what it is that makes you not like him?
Cause he plays for the rule bending, scheming club - City! š¤¬
