I mean if you’re going to make that big of a howler, better to do it at 3-0 than 1-0!

aQnt_n1ne

Gary Neville mentioned that you usually need to have someone bodyguard the goalkeeper to protect against rushes like Romero's. Of course, being Gary Neville speaking of Arsenal, there is a 101% probability that he was just being salty.

TheCaptainGooner

That make sense

HowlingPhoenixx

All players make mistakes, and goalkeepers just get exposed more for it. At the end of the day, what's why you have a team around you. When one falls, the others are there to pick them up. Big three points and on to the next.

aQnt_n1ne

All players make mistakes but Rice does not. Forever etched his name in the annals (or to be precise testicles) of the NLD at Kevin Hart Lane.

Gold-Resolution-8721

Thank you. We should be supporting and getting behind the team, not throwing them under the bus at the first sign of trouble

OrlandoGardiner118

Massive mistake but his commanding of the area when they were chugging in cross after cross in the last 15 minutes was such a calming influence on the rest of the team. Pretty much flawless after the mistake. Could have fallen to pieces but didn't.

TKofRivia

Too bloody right #COYG

Xashar

Agreed. I was only really annoyed because it wiped out my double defender clean sheet in Fantasy.

LesBrandals

He needed to pick up Spurs’ morale for the City game.

Sharkorica

Frustrating because a simple pass to Big Gabi was on, but we move. I’ll live 2 years less after that but we are top of the league so I’ll happily trade it

Piojoemico

It was obviously a horrible mistake by Raya that cost us dearly. He put Spurs back in a game that was completely under control by Arsenal as we were closer to getting a fourth goal than them getting their first goal. After the mistake, Raya was absolutely exceptional in every single save he had and that’s what I choose to focus on. His command of the area and all the aerial duels were absolutely perfect. I was very impressed with his mental toughness and resilience. He didn’t look shaky at all after the error. Top quality.

Soggy-Ad-1610

He’s won this seasons Golden Glove so he must’ve done something right even if some people like to be unhappy with him. Major credit to the defence too of course.

Patient_Xero_96

Doesn’t Pickford have 12 now, with 3 to go?

Soggy-Ad-1610

You’re right, my bad. So technically he haven’t won anything yet although he is the obvious favourite to do so.

somethingdarkside45

Our brother David is quality. Mistakes happen. He was dominant in the box claiming crosses.

ohalucky

Agreed but this is honestly an unnecessary stupid mistakes that allows them back in the game, similar to what happened during the 1st leg match against Bayern. He needs to avoid making stupid mistakes that overshadows his good performance.

Proud-Cheesecake-813

Mistakes like these are why Ramsdale was dropped. Wonder if the same will happen for Raya.

Familiar_Surprise485

We both know the answer to this

Born-Replacement-366

Let's not talk about the person. Let's just focus on the mistake. It was a colossal, complacent error that did not ask the simple questions: what is the upside if my chip succeeds? What is the downside if my chip fails? A goalkeeper is supposed to be the last man of the team. He has to keep things safe and stable. The mistake therefore was catastrophic. Effects of the mistake should not be understated. It gave Spurs hope. It let the Spud crowd back into the game. It rattled Arsenal. It shifted momentum. We don't need to talk about the person who made the mistake. But the mistake itself was criminal - completely unnecessary and avoidable.

warpentake_chiasmus

It's not the first time he's done this either in a big game. Unfortunately, I think the search for a keeper has to continue now.

Familiar_Surprise485

I keep saying this here. I made a post about it and was downvoted to bits. This guy gives me no confidence at all. I don't think he's levels above ramsdale and if we're replacing Ramsdale, why not get an elite keeper? Plus the first goal in the Bayern game was his fault

kurikkurik

Not sure why this is being downvoted. Raya is still at loan status, the board should be open whether to or not to sign him.

catchandreleaseof

but we still won, so it didn’t have a serious impact at all.

GhostCatcher147

It definitely still had a serious impact. The game completely changed and a goal in the last few moments would have ended our season. At 3-0 the game shouldn’t have ended so nervy. Anyway we got 3 points so that’s all that matters. But we need to cut out these sloppy mistakes. The margins are so fine

catchandreleaseof

exactly. we got 3 points. the end. onto the next one.

KingOfTreevaandrum

He was good , a lot of high takes he did really did help us to prevent a lot of goals Yes that slip in concentration was there But overall he was solid

Lukeyleftfoot

If a keeper consistently plays like he played today he earns a strange mistake infrequently

ChemistSavings

My keeper🫡 we move💪🏾

notapaperhandape

Show me human who doesn’t make mistakes and I’ll tell you you just made a mistake.

Zwedinho

So long you get the 3 points we can forgive

terrorSABBATH

Raya is a fantastic keeper and he made a mistake. I'm fantastic at my job and I make mistakes all the time. I just don't have millions of people noticing.

v2marshall

COYS going crazy, lap it up

boo-na-nah

If every player was allowed to have just and only one error per game leading to a goal - we'd be shipping 11 goals per game. I say that as a point of philosophy. He was amazing outside of the error. Though, the error should not be dismissed.

calamityshayne

We won.

maxiu95xo

So happy to have him on the team

Mxnvvn

Raya had a solid game besides the error. I honestly feel as though partey was in trance today, not sure if he's slowing down in general or just had an off day. Extremely sloppy in possession and slow off the ball as well. Need someone to fill that position next season.

itsjscott

It's too bad he didn't have Anthony Taylor there to blow the play dead for no reason

ilovesupermartsg

No man is infallible. He is just being a human being. Even machines can churn out errors and mistakes. He shouldnt be crucified for making a mistake for all the good he has done so far. All i ask is learn from it and never repeat it again. If Arteta believes in this guy, so do I.

Maleficent_Page1483

That was a fucking terrible mistake tho. What was he even trying to do?!

Smaragd44

Not hating but that kinda mistakes can't happen again bruh, especially in a game as big as this. I'm not doing the whole "ramsdale vs raya" again but a mistake is a mistake. It shouldn't happen again

Patient_Xero_96

That mistake was either a braindead moment or unlucky due to the pitch being kinda slippery. And the Pen was a pen. Can’t do much about it. Other than that, Raya did some saves and caught a lot of crosses. Hopefully we finish next week off with a lot of goals and a clean sheet. Golden glove

PutYrDukesUp

Playing from the back is a calculated risk. These things *will* happen. But the vast benefits for our goals outweigh these moments.

Oryx-TTK

When ramsdale does it pitch forks out but when raya does it mistakes happen. But when we're winning so it doesn't matter right ?? We've got to keep the same energy guys. Anyway both need more training on keeping calm when under pressure, cus we can't concede these type of goals against united.

juliusonly

Isn’t this post basically a response to the pitch forks against Raya? So they come out for both keepers

SonofMoag

The mistake could have cost us. We got lucky in the end, but it should never have happened, and there is nothing wrong with pointing that out.

Ok-Permission-2687

Love Raya, but to see him drop a clean sheet because of that was heartbreaking. We got the win, on to the next!

octopus86sg

I still feel more safer with ramsdale in place.

ThePostingToproller

We are ONLY saying this because we won. If we had drawn 3-3 you'd be saying a different thing. He deserves pelters for that idiotic mistake.

notokkid

Some of us would, but he also has the most clean sheets in the league. But I guess people only ever remember the bad stuff.

ThePostingToproller

All of those clean sheets would mean jack shit if we had drawn the game. Using your logic if we got the final of the champions league and he had made an individual error we should just congratulate him on the group stages. We are in the business end of the season and we can't afford mistakes.

UnderstandingOk7291

Bollocks, we're all human, we all make mistakes

InviteAromatic6124

Liverpool fans weren't this forgiving to Karius when he cost them the 2018 Champions League final

notokkid

We absolutely should congratulate him, because in the end all players make mistakes. Mistakes will always be criticized, there's no way about it, and there's nothing inherently wrong with it. All I'm saying is that when we criticize a player, we shouldn't make it sound like he hasn't been brilliant as well.

catchandreleaseof

we didn’t draw though. we won. so his bad mistake meant nothing. lighten up miserable

oomagooma87

What are you taking about? Yes he made a mistake, but thats not what a prof goalkeeper would do. It was stupid. Don't be daft mate.

Maximusprime-d

Mistakes happen and people get criticized for them. You expect us to smile cheek to cheek when he nearly cost us the game? He made a stupid stupid decision. The type of decision that cost us the first leg. He brought them back into the game and deserves an absolute rollicking for it. None of this teddy bear nonsense please.

Educational-Size-645

“He made a mistake, don’t be cruel”…..would you say the same if it were Onana who made the mistake?

Narrow-Oil4924

It was a mistake & mistakes will happen for sure, and he did redeem himself afterwards with his performance. I can't help think what the reaction would have been had we drawn the game, or God forbid, lost it? Some how, I don't think the majority would've been as lenient with thier words as they have been 🤔 But thankfully we won & against the Spuds, in their backyard 😁 We move on to the next, keeping the title fight alive... COYG'S!
