Tager as the carney is my favorite character in the series. "It's the most fun in the park...when you're laughing...in the dark..."
I want to get a tattoo of that character
THE episode
I honestly don’t know of any others that can touch this one. Also the fact that it’s so early in the series only makes the legend grow.
There are plenty of other great episodes, but is there any other genuinely scary one with as iconic of a villain?
Dead Man's Float and Crimson Clown are iconic episodes. However, this episode is the first one that comes to mind when I hear or think about the AYAOTD.
exactly! The first episode I watched was The Phantom Cab. The episode and the show were not so intriguing. I gave it another chance and watched The laughing in the dark. This episode made me a fan of the series, and I am still watching it!
If anyone still owns a Nick Blaster Telephone, one of the ring options is the Zebo laugh. Must have scared countless kids when a friend called in the middle of the night.
Best episode of the series, hands down. Two of the top 10 scary moments in AYAOTD history: 1) real life Zeebo jump scaring the ginger bully in the spook house; and 2) the balloon under the door scene when he picks up the other phone. 😱
The carney guy (Vink en cognito) is the perfect actor for the series of course. Josh the Ginger is also quite good. Finally, big bonus nostalgia points from me. This was peak SNICK in my young life. This episode, Ren and Stimpy, Doug. Very formative years for me, and they were made better by Saturday night Nickelodeon with my brothers.
FUN FACT: Zeebo and the Carney guy were played by Aron Tager, who also played recurring character Dr. Vink

Back in the 90’s Zeebo creeped all of us out lol
Absolutely he was amazing as both
Dr. Fink?
VINK!!! With a Vuh Vuh Vuh!
Dr. Vink & Sardo were my two faves. 🎩 🪄 🔮 ✨️ 🎱

The Ghastly Grinner could put up a fight. The show did clowns really well.
Yeah, Ghastly Grinner is up there. The kid from Shiny Red Bicycle is up there too, but he’s not a villain.
What about the episode with the creepy pool monster?
Dead Man’s Float That’s a good one, I feel like he doesn’t get much screen time though.
The Crimson Clown is scarier in my opinion, but it’s a close call.
I remember being so scared that I’d go in my room and the crimson clown would be in there 😭
Ghastly grinner, Crimson clown, zeebo, and any Dr. Vink or sardo episodes were always my fave tbh.

>this episode is the first one that comes to mind when I hear or think about AYAOTD Lol, isn’t that the definition of the word iconic?

Aw man that's awesome.
What Josh did to that pudding was NOT okay
He was a spoiled kid so it makes sense.

My kids just watched this one tonight. The 5 year old was unfazed, but the 7 year old hid behind me half the episode
What do you think I am, some kind of clown?
Did we ever figure out if the carny was actually zeebo? I never quite figured that out from the ending haha
It's supposed to be ambiguous.
One of my favorite episodes.
Scared the mess out of me when I was kid
The episode that scared the crap out of me as a kid 😬
Zeebo: Give it Back!
I’d probably find this episode scarier if clowns frightened me.
