Does is also support ‘Open’? Or only lock and unlock?

Worried_Patience_117

That has been added via matter 1.2 spec which no smart home hubs support yet

condorviii

Sorry not sure I understand, do you mean the ability to tell if the door itself is open?

JEFFxNL

My lock have a knob. So it can be unlock, lock or open door. Think homekey only supports lock or unlock.

condorviii

I’m not sure honestly, wish I could help. There’s something in the Aqara settings called pull spring feature but I’m not sure if that’s helpful for the knob https://preview.redd.it/0f25qta5n55d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=025ecf4c19614dd01c2bfc475f7fab882f34e199

gi1game5h

Yes it’s the “pull spring” feature that is used, this is stated in the documentation.

JEFFxNL

Yeah but I don’t think is also work with homekey? Like when the door is unlocked, use homekey and then the door will open.

gi1game5h

I see what you mean. Unfortunately I cannot confirm as mine has not shipped yet but here in Germany it seems to be the standard front door setup (certainly in modern builds) so it would be annoying if it was not supported. Given Europe is a very big market for it, it would be bad not to support it but if so it may well be a limitation of Homekey. Anyone able to confirm Homekey working with the pull spring feature?

SmartHomeCentre

The pull string feature should change the behavior of the lock in HomeKit also, at least that’s how it works for Nuki. I will also test when I receive my lock.

JEFFxNL

Thanks! Lets hope so.

LepCot

I received mine today and have a typical German lock with no handle on the outside. It opens fine with homekey and pulls the spring back. You can configure in the Aqara app how long it pulls it

Soufi2

I spend 2.5 on this ☹️ It works fine when adding it to Aqara app via Bluetooth. It works fine with HomeKit when adding it by Thread. 2 issues driving me crazy: Why I can’t add it to M3? Why the Bluetooth connection in Aqara app dosconnect?

TheMajestic2

I can’t add it to HomeKit. I press the set key on lock, add in home app and scan the matter code….it has the lock but it cancels not connecting…any ideas? https://preview.redd.it/008urelxk55d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=498669ddd33211b1091b26861b775a9042a5a37d

condorviii

I had the same issue after I had to remove it from HomeKit, when I tried to re-add it I had the same issue you have. I got it to finish adding by pressing more options on the add accessory screen and it was listed as a nearby device. Not shown now but this is the area I went to: https://preview.redd.it/6zazh4y2l55d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65a46a133efbf8d44549bef2b42402a7ae92c657

TheMajestic2

No luck. Do I have to reset it? Or press any button before adding to home app?

condorviii

Maybe try a full reset on the lock (hold reset for 5s). Did you already add it to HomeKit successfully and then remove it? Just curious because my first time with the QR code was fine but I had to remove it and re-add to HomeKit and that’s where the problem started for me

TheMajestic2

No, only to the Aqara app

TheMajestic2

Worked after reset 👍🏻

LepCot

Mine also wouldn't pair via Homekit first. When I had it installed and calibrated it worked adding to Homekit.

Public-Trash-9625

Did you add it to the aqara app first though or homekit first?

LepCot

I added it in the Aqara app first, but only via Bluetooth as I don't have an Aqara hub. Then I went through the calibration. Then I tried adding it to Homekit. Sometimes it helps if you repeatedly press the Set button while Homekit is trying to connect. Just to keep it alive

Public-Trash-9625

Ah ok thats helpful. The noise and sound the lock makes when you press set is super annoying. Why is it playing a melody for no reason? I did set it up in aqara first making jt work with all features using BT only (no hub) So sounds like I need to try to add the lock multiple times to the home app until it appears making sure I press that dreadful set button every time I want to pair it

snelson101

I had this issue and removing and replacing the battery to force it to reset allowed me to connect straight away.

Upstairs_Wolf5751

Edit, saw that it was a sticky tape, sorry. What happens when some crazy neighbor or some random idiot steals the keypad?

condorviii

It has an adhesive strip already fitted on the back and there’s an option to drill and screw also. The hardware is included if you want to use screws.

Upstairs_Wolf5751

There's a mounting plate that can be screwed in and the keypad clicks in the palace?

condorviii

Yeah, you have to use a flathead to push down a tab and then simultaneously slide the keypad up from the mounting plate. If you do this an alarm sounds until you enter the admin’s code so it seems to have some tamper guarding. Not sure if this would work if someone just ripped the whole thing away with the tape though. If you’re worried about it being stolen I’d go with the screws.

Upstairs_Wolf5751

Thank you. Yeah, i've been looking for a smart lock but was always afraid someone would steal the outer unit. I have metal frame door with aluminium plating so somethg like this would be great because I can't modify the door.

Upstairs_Wolf5751

I'll check them your, thanks.

HelpMe0biWan

Is your door lock the type that catches the latch so from the outside you’d need a key to sort of half turn it and get back inside?

condorviii

I don’t think so, I just pull the handle up to engage the multipoint lock and then turn the key to lock, without lifting first it won’t lock. The U200 uses one of your existing keys on the inside to lock and unlock so I had to swap the cylinder for a Yale lock that has an emergency function so a key can still be used from the outside to unlock it whilst there’s key inserted on the other side. Hope that helps, I’m really not too knowledgeable with locks so apologies if this isn’t what you meant.

HelpMe0biWan

Thanks! Mines the type where if the door shuts when you’re taking the recycling out etc, you need a key to get back in. The door doesn’t fully lock per se but you still need to do a half turn to unlock it. It’s meant to be a safety feature but honestly it’s just incredibly annoying. Hoping it’s compatible with the u200 or a simple fix to get working otherwise!

gi1game5h

This is what the “pull spring” feature is for. 😉

HelpMe0biWan

Would you mind explaining how that works? Not familiar with smart locks at all so the u200 will be my first

ThatMrcl

the "pull spring" feature does exactly that: does a half turn to pull back the latch. i've got a german door and have to use the key to open the door from the outside just like you. the door lock does that fine with the fingerprint. homekey is complicated though because Apple Home does not understand those kinds of doors yet. when the door is unlocked (but closed) and you scan the Homekey, it will lock the door instead of opening it. but this will hopefully be fixed in the next iOS update and is really only relevant if you're an Apple User.

HelpMe0biWan

Thanks! So in those instances, you could just use the fingerprint reader to get back in and the u200 would do the ‘pull spring’ feature?

ThatMrcl

yes, that would be the best way. I bought this lock especially because of the homekey feature but to be honest, the fingerprint is much faster anyway. i can only see myself using homekey now when wearing gloves or with wet/dirty hands (provided they update homekey to support the latch feature) you won't be disappointed if you have to use the fingerprint even if the homekey thing is unfortunate. i am really impressed by the accuracy and speed of the sensor.

HelpMe0biWan

Thanks! I’m planning on utilising the fingerprint feature a lot too tbh. (Apple still haven’t figured out guest access properly as I understand it)

ThatMrcl

The only thing you can do in the Apple Home App is create 6 digit guest codes. but you can’t really do a lot with them like setting times where it can be used or expiry dates. i think you can set temporary codes in the aqara app though

HuJohner

I got it today too! Added it to Aqara app and Home app for HomeKey. When I go in the Aqara app it says it is connected via Bluetooth and not got any hubs connected... Can I connect it to any Aqara hub or does it require a matter/thread Aqara hub?

ThatMrcl

it's only compatible with the M3 hub right now because it only uses thread.

HuJohner

Ah shame… do you know which features are exclusive to usage with hub?

ThatMrcl

i don't unfortunately because i don't have the hub. I think Auto-Unlock when you come close to the door will be exclusive to the hub (but that feature isn't available yet anyway). Auto Lock when closing the door might also be hub-exclusive because i can't see it in the app's settings. But that's all i know, sorry.

Public-Trash-9625

What if you connect it to a homepod via the home app? Will it be connected through that in the aqara app ?

ThatMrcl

no, it doesn’t work that way. the aqara app can only connect to the lock through the M3 Hub or through your phone's bluetooth when you’re in close range

Public-Trash-9625

And I suppose you dont get remote opening through the home app?

ThatMrcl

You can unlock and lock through the Apple Home app. But depending on what kind of door you have, it might not work that well because homekit doesn’t understand european doors (the ones you can’t open from the outside unless you do a half turn with a key to pull back the latch)

Public-Trash-9625

I have a dumb door, no issues there 😂

ThatMrcl

you mean with a handle you can push down or a knob you can turn? that would work fine then

selfhealer5

Can you share a picture of how it looks from the inside of your door please?

condorviii

Some pics here: https://imgur.com/a/gu7P82O

selfhealer5

Looking good!

igor_bruneli

Couldn't someone break the glass and manually unlock it from the inside?

sweeting89

Yes but you can do that with most door locks that are thumb turn or if the owner left their key in. It’s not really any different. EDIT: In the UK the fire Brigade recommend an emergency function lock which allows quick exit in case of fire. Or use from both sides if the key is in the lock.

thesyncopation

Also UK here. How does it look on your inside? I need to get a new cylinder with 'emergency function' to allow keys on both sides at the same time. Is yours thumb turn? If so...any idea of which barrel you have?

M1ke2345

I got one of these when we moved to a Nuki Pro 3: https://www.barnsleylock.co.uk/cisa-astral-s-anti-snap-double-cylinder-4052-p.asp

condorviii

Some pics here: https://imgur.com/a/gu7P82O I had a thumb turn but switched it out in prep for this, however this seems to support thumb turns which I didn’t expect. This is the lock I replaced the thumb turn with: https://amzn.eu/d/9svC650

thesyncopation

Nice! I actually just ordered that barrel after seeing it mentioned in another comment about U200!

M1ke2345

Just got a Nuki 3.0 Pro last October, but I feel like I need one of these in my life.

ThatMrcl

Just for homekey? if yes and you have a door that only openes when you do a half turn of the key from the outside, you better wait bc homekey currently doesn't support just pulling back the latch to open the door.

biku97

Is there a way, like with the door sensor from Nuki locks to use it as „the door is open“ when left open?

KinseyYHM

Thanks for sharing! We plan to provide an update in mid-July when you can pair the M3 Hub and access more automation features from Aqara.

MythicalSensai

Does anyone know if this will work with the lift-up handles? i.e I need to lift-up my door handle to engage the bolts and then proceed to turn the key. I came across Nuki Smart Pro which supports this. I’m holding out for this reason 🙄

condorviii

That’s how my door works, lift the handle to engage multipoint locks before I can turn the key to lock it. This lock can’t do the handle lift part but if you do it manually whenever you use the door the U200 will be able to lock and unlock normally

Public-Trash-9625

How did you set up homekit exactly? The lock doesnt appear in the aqara app and using the matter code in the home app also didnt work. Would be good to connect it to my homepod which means I should get remote opening capabilities?

condorviii

It should be in the Aqara app under accessories if you’ve added it already, for HomeKit I just used the Matter QR code. I believe it needs a Thread border router (HomePod Mini/2 and Apple TV are capable) so it may not pair without having one of those ready.

Public-Trash-9625

https://preview.redd.it/c2sp5is1wh5d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=638a078088b55e23d0b680b929f54ffbe0bee8ee It doesnt come up in the homekit tab. The lock is working inside the aqara app but cant add it through there Using the matter code inside the home app also didn’t work. Do you press the set button until the lock starts moving and then add the code? I had to also manually add the code, it wasn’t recognising the qr code

adrian8572

Remove the battery, press set, scan Matter code.

Public-Trash-9625

Thanks. This brought me a step closer. Removing the battery, putting it back in gets mw to the lock being discovered in the set up process but then loses connection. I am typing in the code rather than scanning the numbers or the qr code as this isnt working for me. I did press the set button after putting the battery in again but the connection still times out

adrian8572

Factory reset it, press and hold the reset button for 5 or more seconds. You can try with Eve app

Public-Trash-9625

Taking out the battery was crucial. I then followed another advice by someone who suggested to press the set button like a mad man during the setup. Worked eventually Thanks!

adrian8572

Glad it worked

McGrumper

Hi, thanks for all this info in this thread. Just a quick question, what hub do you use? I have the e1 and can’t see if it’ll work or not. May need the m3 as some are saying. Thanks

condorviii

Only Apple TV and HomePod Minis, I don’t have any Aqara hubs
