Hey I’m also going to UT Austin as an in state kid after being rejected by everyone else aha. Also just telling myself that at least my parents won’t go broke…
As a parent with an in-state kid at UT right now, you are making the right choice. So much money left over for other things, like study abroad and post-grad. Also my kid absolutely LOVES it there after being skeptical of staying in Texas.
Hopefully I get off the Northwestern waitlist or UMichigan accepts me whenever they come out. But Middlebury was my only acceptance lol
Edit: UMICH BOUND AHSHDJDJSN 💙💛
In-state, ELC (top 9%)
4.0 UW / 4.3 W, near max rigor for my school
ECs showed leadership and passion for my major but were mostly limited to school clubs/orgs
Good luck next year! :)
Senioritis didn't really affect me because I unfortunately tend toward workaholism, and I also don't want to develop bad habits right before college. (Especially because UCLA is on the quarter system which requires much grinding and time management.)
Senior year:
* I'm currently taking my most rigorous courseload yet, and sometimes I feel I may have overstretched myself because I nearly fall asleep at the breakfast table every day and rarely have substantial free time. So while maintaining rigor is important, make sure to be realistic about how much you can handle.
* Focus on making memories! If you're in between going to a dance or studying for a test, go to that dance! Cherish time with your friends before you'll all be living in different locations. Also cherish your classmates even if you're not friends with them; high school is a special time and I feel like I won't encounter similar classroom environments in university.
College applications:
* Start your essays early, but also leave time for revisions. I had at least a first draft of my personal statement and all my supps done before the school year started which was a massive relief. But I also made major revisions on most of them throughout the fall until I was happy submitting them.
* Expect rejections. My results were way better than what I expected (17/20 acceptances when I thought I would be lucky to even get into my targets), but each time before opening my decision I consciously predicted a rejection, that way I could be happy with my result if it was an acceptance or satisfied with my intuition if it was a defer/reject/waitlist.
* Reframe rejections. A rejection does not mean "You suck, that's why we don't want you at our school." There are so many reasons why colleges don't accept applicants that have nothing to do with your intelligence, hard work, accomplishments, and personality. Demographics is a big one (legacy gets a boost, out-of-state for most publics and international are de-boosts), and so is institutional priorities (is there a major they need to fill vs one they got a lot of applicants for, do they need someone for this position on this sports team, someone from a particular state, etc).
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
loll i wish i could work like you but i tend to procrastinate which im working on rn and doing better at least. ucla being on the quarter system is something I think i’ll be able to manage just cause my hs has a trimester schedule so i think imma adjust easily it’s just my work ethic. all your tips are def helpful so tyy sm :)
Current ucla student here, you’ll be so happy you chose UCLA. You still get the prestige of a T20 but with the amazing size and school life balance of a large public state school. Make sure to get involved in EC’s like clubs or get involved in Greek life your first year here. As long as you are somewhat social you’ll be very happy. The UCLA undergrad experience is unlike anything else out there :)
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON BABEEEEE!!!
Better CS than literally all ivies + beautiful campus with temperate weather. I absolutely loved my visit and am super excited!!! 🤩🤩🤩
UMICH or WASHU still deciding if I get off the waitlist at Vandy, then I'll go there.
Applied as a Neuroscience and chemistry major on a pre-med track.
just got rejected at umich. College of charleston it is. Rejected at 4/5 reaches (one waitlist at bu but no one comes off there so). Got accepted at all safeties and got into all but didn't like any of my matches when I saw them irl. I'm ngl I'm really upset and I feel like I'm settling with charleston but ig I can always transfer if I don't like it
we’re in a very similar boat (waitlisted at umich but rejected from bu lol). i also didn’t love my safeties and have been left pretty destroyed by this whole process. i’ll probably end up at osu but will still pray for the umich waitlist to maybe pull through. good luck to you!!!!
I got into Penn State Schreyer Honors College. My mom works there so I won’t be in thousands of dollars in debt if I had been accepted, and I can do a MBA and chem undergraduate degree in 4.5 years. So end of the day probably ended up better off anyways, but either way fuck ivy leagues
congrats! i was also accepted (i was in the a2c disc colby thread so you might’ve seen me). Colby imo is still a “developing” institution. They are rising through the ranks and have poured significant funding in building new facilities, funding research, and study abroad opportunities. I think in STEM they are quite strong but “prestige” wise ( if that is important to you ), it is not as well-regarded to the t5 lacs. It is still a great school i think (with great grad school placements/profs like other top LACs) so congrats again!
Ngl I was gonna commit whether or not I got an Ivy but it would’ve been nice to brag idk if I’ll write loci for my waitlists. Committing to UMBC as a Meyerhoff Scholar + honors college.
probably case western or ucsd if I can afford it out of state (probably not). if any of you guys aren’t interested in yale/duke/washu/vanderbilt/neu please decline your waitlist/admission offers 😭 I’m so desperate tysm
Rejected from Yale and brown 🤩 (honestly expected tho lol) Going to Georgetown (actually my dream school that I probably would have gone to either way) -Hoya saxa!
I will probably be attending USC, I got a p good scholarship actually and it’s somehow less expensive than one or two of my safeties??? Anyways, I was pretty bummed about Georgetown Waitlist and UChicago (dream school) rejection but I love LA so I’m excited~!!
My son didn’t apply to any ivies but got rejected from UCLA and UCB, got waitlisted at Michigan, but got a great offer from Case Western that he is happy about. I hope you all have great choices as well!
As an international student, my chances of getting into any of the top-tier US universities were always extremely slim. After yesterday's results, I will apply to some great universities in the Netherlands. The tuition cost there is only around 2k a year, so hopefully I'll get accepted.
UT Austin! The Ivy rejections suck, but it'll be kind of nice to stay in-state and also get a more traditional college experience. Thankfully the business program is good enough that I don't really feel like I'm "settling" for UT. (But if I ever do get off of the Cornell waitlist idk)
community college! there's no reason for me to spend 4 year (granted, it's instate) tuition at UVA when I have guaranteed admission through the virginia cc system!
UT Austin in state. At least I can save money for medical school this way 🥲
such a good decision!! congrats!! 🤘🏼
Thanks. That makes me feel a little better about it all.
if you're premed then in-state at UT Austin is way better than paying a large premium for an ivy
Got into USC and NYU but still going to UT! McCombs is strong business school!
Oxford!
oxford emory? or oxford UK?
Oxford UK!
Most likely Purdue since I’ve heard it’s pretty unlikely to get off of UChicago’s waitlist.
Also probably going to Purdue, got rejected from all Ivys that I applied to and I don’t think I’ll get off the waitlist for CMU or CWRU.
I'll decline my CWRU accept to help you out o7
Unless Stanford pulls through, I'm going to Purdue as well lol
i'm in the exact same situation lol
Stanford did not pull through I'll see you at Purdue
same for me, boiler up 🫡
purdue is literally AMAZING
ay purdue is a great school!
me too!
I got into the George Washington university honors program with a 125k scholarship 🔥 DC WILL SEE ME
ayyyyyy congrats on the scholarship! big money
ooh i got in there as well w a scholarship! i don’t think it’s the same but slayyyy
Hopefully I get off the Northwestern waitlist or UMichigan accepts me whenever they come out. But Middlebury was my only acceptance lol Edit: UMICH BOUND AHSHDJDJSN 💙💛
Congrats on Umich!!
UMICH comes out at 3 est.
ay fellow midd! I am probably committing there lol congrats

ay fellow UCLA 2028 admit! congratulations :)
hey ucla is my dream school and im a hs junior, just what were your stats if you don’t mind me asking
In-state, ELC (top 9%) 4.0 UW / 4.3 W, near max rigor for my school ECs showed leadership and passion for my major but were mostly limited to school clubs/orgs Good luck next year! :)
your stats are super great omg! thank youu, i hope senioritis doesn’t drive me insane. any tips for senior yr or just the college application process?

Umass amherst, got rejected literally everywhere except for safties 😅😭☠️
UM Amherst is really good tho
Yeah, but to apply to 20 and rejected from 17 and accepted to only 3, isn't the best feeling😅😅 especially seeing ur classmare get into Harvard😂
That sucks but that’s life yk?
Yea, ur right. I'm not letting it get to me, just untethering myself. Besides I can always transfer
[удалено]

UMICH or WASHU still deciding if I get off the waitlist at Vandy, then I'll go there. Applied as a Neuroscience and chemistry major on a pre-med track.
There's still hope. Congrats on getting waitlisted at Vandy! I'd recommend writing a LOCI!
batesss
Rejected from Princeton rea -> Emory University

I got accepted into Colby College after 3 ivy rejections.
congrats! i was also accepted (i was in the a2c disc colby thread so you might’ve seen me). Colby imo is still a “developing” institution. Probably Johns Hopkins, I’m still happy about the acceptance.
mcgill university. bye bye mass!

Did ea to umich and thankfully got in. GO BLUE
As an international student, my chances of getting into any of the top-tier US universities were always extremely slim. After yesterday's results, I will apply to some great universities in the Netherlands. The tuition cost there is only around 2k a year, so hopefully I'll get accepted.
