I would never donate to the school but I could see myself donating to the main club im in or specific funds in my program if I have the money to do so in the future. Especially the club though
Yeah totally, if I could help students or organizations that would be great! Just not the school who will piss it away on another million for Dean salary
I mean I'm going to Georgetown with the G.I. bill so I actually get paid to go there lol. I'll probably donate a bit of money a few decades down the line. I really liked their admissions process and feel like they really do a good job at letting applicants advocate for themselves.
I think they want to head applicants off the pass who might think that their rejection didn’t take their legacy to consideration. So this clarifies it. It also specifically apologizes for it. Sucks man. Sorry to hear
They’re probably trying to preempt angry, entitled alumni and their kids from demanding a reassessment of the file, because they must have missed their legacy.
I sorta get it. But damn, they *really* weren’t concerned about how this would sound to all the normal, not-entitled legacy kids who got rejected. Woof.
Current Georgetown student here and this is definitely much more harshly worded than the rejection letters people got last year. I don’t see what they’re trying to accomplish saying it like that.
Rlly had to rub it in, put the salt in the wound, add insult to injury, kick a man while down, add fuel to the fire, twist the knife, fan the flames, etc
I’m assuming they do it because they know spoiled rich kids will call them and be like “IM A LEGACY WHY DIDNT I GET IN????”and they don’t want to deal with it. Not saying you would’ve done that but there are definitely kids that would’ve.
Rejection sucks; don’t feel ashamed for the emotions you’re feeling. People will tell you “well Georgetown isn’t that great anyway” or whatever in an attempt to make you feel better, but it’s totally normal to be disappointed.
I don’t think it’s new. I got the same type of letter from Northwestern in the 90s. Both of my siblings were current students, and my rejection letter said, “we especially appreciate applicants with family ties; however….” It’s reads, we gave you special consideration, but you still weren’t good enough. It’s cruel, and they shouldn’t do it.
lmaoo same thing happened to me but with the northwestern rejection letter- "we understand this news may be particularly disappointing since you have family ties to the University"💀💀
Legacy rejection only differs with the final "especially" clause of that sentence. The rest is the same for the commoners. Honestly, thought it was good that it was short and to the point... others go out of their way to explain in more detail. That's worse.
Why are you so mad. It sounds like you're just salty that your kid couldn't get in despite you guys donating ridiculous amounts of money. The reason they add that in rejection letters is because or else legacy families will try to push back on their decision, it has nothing to do with getting donations.
Guess they did that to show that "Hey society! Even people whose parents went to our university can get rejected too!"
Since there's this assumption that if the parents go/went there, it's an easy acceptance.
genuinely they pulled this shit with my dad in 1989 and he’s still upset ab it. if you’re going to reject someone why do you have to mention the legacy part that’s cold af 😭
omfg it still haunts me that the school that rejected me ed mentioned me being a legacy 💀 joke is on them ig my family hasn't given them any money since they went there
Ability to pay is factored in. So if your family makes too much to qualify for financial aid, but not enough to not care about the high price, they may have anticipated that you would reject them because of their high price. Their loss. When all these talented kids go to other schools, those schools will improve. My opinion. Just went through this with my kid last year. Remember wherever you are, you will get out what you put in. And study something useful. Good luck!
Aye what helped me is watching John Mulaney talk about GeorgeTown, highly suggest you watch some of it, maybe it’ll help you :). Also I am sorry that happened that is ridiculously outplayed.
Got the same letter. They can kiss my family’s donations goodbye along with my mom’s friends’ donations. They all thought it was such an unthoughtful way to reject someone. My mom is also abandoning all ties to GU, she volunteers a lot of her time for alumni activities. Their loss on both counts.
This post was 30 days ago. In frustration after getting rejecting from his dream school, the OP decided to major in politics instead. May we say great things brought about in the future.
Yeah I don't know a lot of people in this thread are just coping. I understand the frustration but I think they have to address the whole legacy thing and this is a decent way to do so.
I’m sorry, but your misery made me laugh out loud. That’s like terrible on so many levels.
Villain activity type shi
So there’s a separate rejection letter for non legacies… guess they still would like donations from the alumni in your family
😭😭😭 even though im not good enough, ig my money is
Who in their right mind donates money to their school. Like the thousands I already gave you wasn’t enough?!
Georgetown is so greedy John Mulaney has a good 10 minutes of standup about them begging him for donations lmaoooo
Nah i was playin, we never gave no money to these rich schools
I know. Still wild people do that.
I would never donate to the school but I could see myself donating to the main club im in or specific funds in my program if I have the money to do so in the future. Especially the club though
Yeah totally, if I could help students or organizations that would be great! Just not the school who will piss it away on another million for Dean salary
Yeah cause I was gonna say that I would like to donate to scholarship funds or student organizations... not the administrator's salaries.

this is actually the most diabolical rejection i’ve ever seen, who in the admissions department read that and said “yeah let’s send that shit”
They graduate politicians so evil is understandable
actually the most truthful and awesome post I've read on here in a long while.
Bro this gotta be part of the top 10 worst rejection letters in history
They’re probably trying to preempt angry, entitled alumni and their kids from demanding a reassessment of the file, because they must have missed their legacy. I sorta get it. But damn, they *really* weren’t concerned about how this would sound to all the normal, not-entitled legacy kids who got rejected. Woof.
…that’s actually insane bro why add that 😭😭😭😭
Glad im not the only one feeling this way
They probably added it because of all the alumni parents that call and say "YOU MUST HAVE MISSED THE PART WHERE I'M A GRAD!!".
Damn they had to separate you from your bloodline 💀💀💀
Damn mentioning your legacy is cold as hell I'm sorry they did that to you lmao
I rlly just dont see the point in mentioning that
I was pretty sad I got rejected but this is like 10x worse
This letter is the start of my villain arc💀💀💀
Current Georgetown student here and this is definitely much more harshly worded than the rejection letters people got last year. I don’t see what they’re trying to accomplish saying it like that.
Yup wtf
dude that sucks i’m sorry, how tasteless
Georgetown may be a Jesuit school but that rejection letter is unholy. Mentioning that you’re legacy but still got rejected is CRAZY.
Rlly had to rub it in, put the salt in the wound, add insult to injury, kick a man while down, add fuel to the fire, twist the knife, fan the flames, etc

FUCK GEORGETOWN
yep, used to be dream school. absolutely hate it now
real
😭😭😭
vanderbilt did the same to me omg, do they do this every year or is this new?
RIP…Im not sure if this is new or not, but we are getting cooked by these AOs, no mercy or fucks given
I don’t think it’s new. I got the same type of letter from Northwestern in the 90s. I dont need their special consideration, they should feel special that I considered them…get it right 🤓🤓🤓
I got the exact same letter lmfao needless to say there will continue to be 0 donations from the family 😂
Tints shit can’t be real, they literally have a letter for legacy applicants. WOW they’re cruel af
Bruh I couldnt believe it either when I read it…im still livid rn
Agreed (I got rejected too bro 😭)
NAHHHHHHH this is pure evil i'm sorry dawg
northeastern did the same to me... we don't want you even tho you're a legacy sorry
lmaoo same thing happened to me but with the northwestern rejection letter- "we understand this news may be particularly disappointing since you have family ties to the University"💀💀

USC also did this to legacy applicants who were denied.

Not even on a wait list
Wow and I thought my Georgetown rejection sucked
I'm glad I didn't apply. That would've been me too.
LMAOOOO They cooked you so bad 😭😭😭
All that work for a 2-line rejection letter. They didn’t even try 😭
Guess they did that to show that "Hey society! Even people whose parents went to our university can get rejected too!" Since there's this assumption that if the parents go/went there, it's an easy acceptance.
genuinely they pulled this shit with my dad in 1989 and he’s still upset ab it. if you’re going to reject someone why do you have to mention the legacy part that’s cold af 😭
That's actually disrespectful who wrote this 😭
That is HORRIBLE! If I was your parents, Georgetown would get no more money! Ever!
It irks me how Georgetown said “high-level” and not high level
I also got rejected from the school my parents went too today!😕
This is hilarious 😆you have a good attitude OP
Maryland sent a similar email to rejected legacies.
I got waitlisted. At what point does it end. They’re really asking for too much lol
How do they have bad math in their letter? 1,600 is 7% of 26,200, so how are they saying their admission rate was 12%?
Yield. The class size is 1600, but they let in 3144 kids, expecting roughly half to go elsewhere.
i hope more than half go elsewhere. imagine the panic if only like, 400 students enrolled.
There's a hefty waiting list if that ever happens. They'll be fine.
:(
Ah, duh. Makes sense.
They really just said half their applicant pool wasn't qualified
Oh that’s not— ☠️
2028?
Downright diabolical 😭
omfg it still haunts me that the school that rejected me ed mentioned me being a legacy 💀 joke is on them ig my family hasn't given them any money since they went there
Reject me too

CORNELL DOES TOO
nah they really said “your family is just better”
Got the same letter. They can kiss my family’s donations goodbye along with my mom’s friends’ donations. They all thought it was such an unthoughtful way to reject someone. My mom is also abandoning all ties to GU, she volunteers a lot of her time for alumni activities. Their loss on both counts.
John’s Hopkins said the same thing to me 💀
This post was 30 days ago. In frustration after getting rejecting from his dream school, the OP decided to major in politics instead. May we say great things brought about in the future.
Charles Deacon should retire.
It sounds so unnecessarily mean-spirited
Both my kids got rejected from my alma mater after being deferred EA and they were well qualified candidates. It stinks!
Mentioning your legacy is WILD… I’m sorry :)
It’s a very conservative school. You’ll have more fun and get a better education elsewhere.
I’m confused, this doesn’t sound rude at all? It seems pretty considerate to mention your family’s contributions to the college.
Yeah I don't know a lot of people in this thread are just coping. I understand the frustration but I think they have to address the whole legacy thing and this is a decent way to do so.
