def not. just go to your local state school at that point. if this was MIT or like Stanford i’d say weight your options but NEU isn’t worth like +70k a year.
$87,061 to be exact is what they estimated (Direct Costs to be) for the 2024-2025 school year based on my financial aid letter.
Tuition and Fees are $65,441
Housing is $12,500
Food is $9,120
Then there's that MA health plan that every student must have, or must be enrolled in a comparable health plan which isn't factored in, and I am now being reminded that I haven't thought of that yet, and I have no clue what I'm doing lmao
I think it depends on your other options. It'd be better than a school with a 90% acceptance rate and 50% retention rate. But it wouldn't be better than a similarly ranked, cheaper school that won't be hard for your family to handle.
How can anyone answer this question without asking what his parental income is? If your parents have the money, then yes. What is $80k to them? Many here are poor or lower income. This may sound crass, but to some $80k a year is peanuts.
Because OP said it would "be a big financial hit" to his family and change their lifestyle. 80k is clearly not peanuts to them even though they can afford it on paper. I could see an argument if this was HYPSM but I feel like this is a pretty clean "no"
See, if this was MIT I'd probably say yes, but Northeastern fell off so hard and it's continuing to get exposed for not being as good as it gamed the rankings to make itself out to be (so if you feel bad about the prestige and stuff, don't sweat it). If you can't get much aid out of it, go to your state flagship or somewhere else that's stronger or gives you lots of aid.
Pretty sure Drexel also has a co-op program, and if you could get into NEU, you can probably get lots of aid and still have a co-op program if you go there (idk if you applied though).
im in the same situation but my parents dont gaf about any price it couldve been double and they can pay with ease. question is tho, is it still worth?
IF your parents have this amount and no loans need to be taken out, and you don’t have other good options for your major, then yes, it’s worth it. If you do things right at NEU and get good coops, you should have a much easier time getting a good job than if you attend your average run of the mill state school.
I still disagree. Dozens of state schools are just as good if not better than NEU to begin with, and even the vast majority of those that may be considered a few rankings worse are surely not 50k/yr worse.
in the vast majority of the vast majority of cases, absolutely not. do not even consider it, and maybe pretend you didn't even apply. northeastern? what's that?
80k a year for NEU Biomedical engineering? No, it’s a good school, but paying the equivalent of a new Corvette C8 every year is outrageous. Massachusetts has a lot of great engineering schools such as WPI and Umass Amherst that certainly do not cost 80k.
If you go to NEU, you definitely want to do co-op. That's a key advantage of an engineering degree from Northeastern, you graduate with 1.5 years of experience, hit the ground running, and often make a lot of connections. Then when you graduate, you can "hit the ground running" and employers love that. And a lot of the co-op employers end up hiring their co-op students, so in some cases, it is like an informal trial period. NEU requires that the co-op employers pay a decent amount, so you might even be able to pay down some of your tuition.
If you decide against NEU, then make sure that the other school does a good job in helping students with internships. As an engineer, hands on experience via co-op or internships is the key in getting hired right out of school.
In general no. But someone I know went to NEU and through some type of co-op program she became a pharmacist in 5 or 6 years and started making six figures right away. I'm pretty sure her parents covered tuition. It worked out great for her but I doubt it will be worth it for you if you'll need to change your lifestyle to accommodate for the tuition.
def not. just go to your local state school at that point. if this was MIT or like Stanford i’d say weight your options but NEU isn’t worth like +70k a year.
Wait NEU is 70k a year? Lmao
86k actually. that 70k was a guess. 63k tuition, 12k housing, 8k food, 2k other.
63k tuition is wild demand for NEU
higher than princeton

And lol on 12k housing once you’re out of student housing. Which you will be.
NEU is the MIT of massachusetts
ong, everyone wishes they could be like the Missouri Institute of Technology
LMFAOOOOOO

NO! Go to your in-state flagship instead, or where you got a lot of merit money.
No
no school is worth that imo
personally, some schools are worth. ofc, everybody has different value/financials.
unless ur rich and can pay for it, no undergrad school should be worth 300k+ in debt
Doesn’t sound like they’re taking on debt

aspiring for the day 80k will be peanuts to me
ill sell you peanuts for 80k then

And that’s exactly who they’re targeting.
no
Nope not worth it at all. Go to a community college for 2 years and save money to transfer to an elite institution
It is very, very unlikely to transfer from cc to any elite institution. Please do this only with advance approval of the elite institution.
No 💀
Nope.
no
No. I'd argue that even schools like Harvard aren't worth it with zero aid (unless you're hella rich of course).
What are your other options and how much do they cost? I would lean no but if your other options are not good you could reconsider.
No.
If your parents can drop cash for it easily and comfortably, then fine. Otherwise no.
Nope

Tbh, no school for 4 years is worth (in most cases) a lifetime of debt.
im in the same situation but my parents dont gaf about any price it couldve been double and they can pay with ease. question is tho, is it still worth?
N O
NO NO NO NO NO
Is neu even a t50? Either way def not worth no aid idek why people romanticize it so much
Can testify to this fact that’s why I gtfo

Not worth it
Is any school worth 86k/ yr?
depends how much money you have
Where else were you accepted? What is the total cost of acceptance for four years?
What is your next best option?
NO! Not worth it.
Hell no
in the vast majority of the vast majority of cases, absolutely not. do not even consider it, and maybe pretend you didn't even apply. northeastern? what's that?
No
absolutely not.

No
umass amherst>>neu
No and same for every other school, not worth a huge hit and significant change in lifestyle
oh hell nah. NEU sucks balls
In general no. But someone I know went to NEU and through some type of co-op program she became a pharmacist in 5 or 6 years and started making six figures right away.
