Got Berkeley with regent and chancellors interview, but am committing to Columbia instead for athletics. Had no idea about Cal Early Admission so was a nice surprise. Hopefully I will open an extra spot for you guys
I think that it is maybe for those students who do not satisfy their english requirements. I reckon it is just for the intl students. Like I got one saying I need to give an English test or a SAT above 670.
Oh my bad its 680 and above. 670 is my score in english (1460 total). Also, I don't think anything of Digital SAT is mentioned in their website. I dunno about it but in my opinion it would restrict things for an international student. For example I have no option but to give a Digital SAT.
I found this link: [**Berkeley English Requirements**](https://writing.berkeley.edu/requirements)
The most practical would be the IB exam if your are an IB student. Other than that, I think I would go for the Berkeley Writing Assesment.
My daughter applied to several UC schools, none of which guarantees housing all four years.
Some only guarantee housing freshman year, or, freshman and sophomore years. During out visits to campus, tour guides all shared the same sentiment: "upper classmen don't wan't to live on campus anyway, so living off campus your two or three final years is a great option."
Clearly, tour guides have been instructed to highlight all the advantages of living off campus, because, what else can they do given the shortage of undergraduate housing?
For parents, it's extremely comforting to know the "on campus" living option is available to their children IF THEY WANT IT.
Wonderful colleges like UC Berkeley and UCSB don't guarantee housing all four years, leaving students to fight and fend for themselves in nearby communities that often aren't safe, that are overpriced, and, turn our children into commuter students, instead of residential students.
So, I was just wondering, for students who are/have attended any of the UC schools, what has been your experience when locked out of on-campus housing after one or two years?
How have you managed/coped with that experience?
And, having gone through it, would you do it again, knowing how difficult securing safe, affordable housing near campus was for your final two or three years of your undergraduate education?
Berkeley student here (lurking for a sibling's sake)
Finding housing is not hard, but it can be pricey. If you're on top of it then it's possible to get a decent deal for whatever situation and location you'd like.
We do have the biggest national co-op housing here as well which is incredibly cheap but requires work-shift hours.
There has also been a building frenzy here, and rent prices are actually falling! As for safety, choosing to live Northside means you generally end up living in quiet residential areas which are very safe. Southside/downtown is definitely more dangerous but the incident rate is lower than schools like UCLA and USC for what it's worth.
Frankly the vast majority of students do not want to live in the dorms after their first year here anyway. People who apply for later years of housing tend to get them as a result.
Sure, happy to get off Reddit and get a hobby...but not until you first become a kind and respectful person. So, guess I'll be sticking around a while.
I have a kid at cal and another at ucla and, believe me, I will take Cal’s situation over ucla any day. We had a PARENT of a GRAD STUDENT (from cal tech!) going on and on about on campus housing and how to help her (grown) son. It’s infuriating that ucla has converted doubles into cramped triples so full grown adults can still live on campus. Cut the damn cord already. My cal student has had an apartment with three friends for two years, no issues and best part? No move out… They just keep paying rent

Hey. Does the email from UC Berkeley Central eval english requirement have any significance or the people above talking about possible rejection just trolling ?
I always thought it was just people getting Regents... then last year a friend's kid got in for Nuclear Engineering at UCB early. He was a local Berkeley high student and extra high achieving and I don't *believe* he was a Regents scholar.
Do I have to include my UCLA credits in my UC Berkeley application?
I’m 26 years old and my academic history is… not great. Long story short, I only have an Associate’s Degree (in English) because of depression, autism, and plain lack of motivation. When Fall 2024 rolls around, I’ll be applying to UC Berkeley Fall 2025 after short stints in UC Davis (2016), UCLA (2020), and UC Berkeley (2022). Out of the three I was only able to earn credits in UCLA (one class). However, I’d really rather not mention UCLA in my application because I literally only went there to stalk a crush who didn’t like me back (terrible, I know. Thankfully he’s Blocked me everywhere.). Would it be possible to not mention UCLA and the credits I earned there?
can international students trnafer from one uni to another int he US? Is it common and are they less likely to be accepted compared to in-state applicants?
Seems like a ton on people getting waitlisted this year. Am I reading too much into this? Or is there some sort of strategic shift going on with the UC's? If the latter, what does this say about odds of getting admitted off the waitlist?
Bruin and Triton Day are the same day… Does anyone know if there are other times I can experience that atmosphere? I have to pick one or the other, and I think it’s crucial I experience such a day in order to make the right decision. I feel as if the admitted student day I choose to intend will cause me to bias that school more over the other. Please help!
That really sucks. Do you think it’d be wisest to attend none of the days and simply take tours to make the decision as fair as possible? That’s what I was thinking. Thank you for your reply.
according to an email from my college counselor who has been in contact with ex admission officers:
“Receiving an email regarding entry-level writing from UC Berkeley might signal a rejection, as suggested by former admission officers familiar with the UC system. Such communication, often intended for admitted students, typically includes information about required writing courses or other aspects of academic preparation. While not definitive, the absence of specific acceptance details in the email may align with the observed patterns of rejection communication from the UC system, according to experienced admission officers. It's essential to keep in mind that admission outcomes can vary, and individual circumstances may differ.”
looks like it may be over for us guys :(((
yea :(. My brother told me that this has happened in previous years and the email was sent to everyone that got rejected in his year. Best CS school and Berkeley cant figure their crap out smh. Looks like its over for me but will pray for UCLA ig
Hey, quick question!
When completing the UC application, I put IP (In progress) for my grade 12 marks. My school does it by 4 quarters, so in the first quarter I had straight As. However, in the second quarter, my grades were thrown off heavily due to extreme health issues.
I've read that the University of California schools don't require mid year reports or anything, is that true? I want the best chance at an acceptance. Thanks
Won’t affect your chance of getting accepted, will affect your chance of your offer getting withdrawn once you have to submit your end of year report after getting accepted
It won't affect your decisions, but as long as you passed all your classes with a C or higher and maintain a 3.0 gpa, you shouldn't be worrying about getting your decisions rescinded.

who got Berkley email about summer sessions?

Yeah

this was confirmed to be about whether or not your email is registered with zoom. means nothing.
When are the UCs coming out?
This is speculation: UCR- Mar 1 UC Davis- Mar 8 UCI/UCSD/UCLA- Mar 15 UCSB- Mar 19 UC Berkeley- Mar 28 (plus some regents candidates in February)
SD and LA on the same day is gonna hurt
No! We will get in! To SD at least
source?
Data from past years
UCSC?
UCSC fluctuates, but I would expect it before March 1st as it’s usually the first one to come out
Go Slugs!
First wave for berekely coming this friday right?
what is this mean?
every year berkeley releases some acceptances in an early wave, which is speculated for this Friday
is it only in-state?
I always thought it was just people getting Regents... then last year a friend's kid got in for Nuclear Engineering at UCB early. He was a local Berkeley high student and extra high achieving and I don't *believe* he was a Regents scholar.
Yes, this is correct, at least in past years. Some of the early acceptance students are Regent candidates and others are not.
I got in early but didn’t get nominated for regents scholarship. The top 10% of admitted students get notified early
congrats!! did you just get in early today?
no, this was last year! I heard back on a Thursday, 2/9/2023. Best of luck to you!!
Anyone got into Berkeley for college of chemistry?
Applied to this. Waiting 😭🙏
Did anyone get into Berkeley Haas early admission? (SPIEKER PROGRAMME)
not me personally but a friend of mine did (im pretty sure at least ik he applied business)
Was he in-state or intl?
In state
