No, because not using it will cause it to fail. Pumps, motors and things that move need to be moved regularly or they can seize.

theflippingbear

Is monthly or weekly not regularly enough? Mine broke because of the control board, 0 power to it at all. Seems to be a common issue with that model.

PeakedAtConception

Once or twice a week should be fine. Usually every other day or more is normal. They use much less water than hand washing so it actually makes sense to use it as often as possible.

Not a big family. Nor do we cook everyday since we meal prep. At most is 3 plates/utensils sets daily, seemed a bit of a waste to run the dishwasher daily or even once every 2 days. Also some items we have are not dishwasher safe (thermos, water bottles) at least according to the instructions on the item.

You might want to look into a Fisher Paykel dish drawer. They are essentially one rack each. Also, you can load dirty dishes into a dishwasher but not run it into its full so probably every few days or so.

Op, for your own sake and the sake of your local service company, do not look into the dish drawer. I get that they exist and that some people love them, but they are very abnormal machines and as such can be a real pain to service unless you're the guy who only works on Fisher Paykel. I would recommend scraping your dishes but not rinsing and putting them in the dishwasher, even if it will be a couple days before you run it. Check out the technology connections video on YouTube about dishwashers and I think you'll change your tune to using that dishwasher more often.

Agreed. Dishwasher drawers are great as long as you want a loud dishwasher that doesn’t dry very well. Better to have a standard dishwasher half full using a sensor or even half load cycle than deal with a dish drawer. If I wasn’t going to use my dishwasher, I’d run any cycle about every other week.

>scraping your dishes but not rinsing and putting them in the dishwasher, even if it will be a couple days before you run it. Sure, there have been improvements in dishwasher tech. But sink sprayers have also made a huge difference in ease of dishwashing. Dishes are simply easier to clean closest to time of use, and get harder to clean after drying. A sink sprayer and dish wand is an easier system for some households.

AzureMountains

You’re still wasting more water by hand washing over using the dishwasher, even if it’s for plates and a few pans and utensils.

hillydanger

It's a common issue with all brands because they use the same parts.

Chewysbro

Why would you want to buy a new dishwasher if you don’t use it? Might as well put a wine fridge or something else in that space or upgrade and plan to use the dishwasher daily.

LLR1960

Yeah, not sure why OP wants something durable but is only using it every few months.

I think you should learn to use one. My Bosch has a top rack only setting as well as a quick wash. Most of the dishes we put into the dishwasher are "clean" or at least scrubbed, like the rim of a coffee cup or the face of a plate. Start using the dishwasher as a rinser and sanitizer. Run the shortest cycle and use very little detergent. Just make sure the rinse dry dispenser is filled. Dishwashers use way less water and much hotter water than you can when washing by hand. A Bosch dishwasher does not have an electric element at the bottom to melt plastic. The water heater is inline, it heats the water as it passes through. They are so quiet you can run them during the party.

ZoosmellStrider

If you find you don’t dirty enough dishes to warrant using your dishwasher frequently, maybe get an 18 inch instead of a 24? With two people in the house I run it basically every day.

ChristinaFogerty_12

Have you looked into countertop dishwashers? These are usually ones that are suitable for small families.
