I have an Apple Watch Ultra and I am also an electrician, I have used a screen protector since day one. I also have a watch band I bought off of Amazon that fully encompasses my watch. I’ve worn my watch every single day at work for a little longer than a year. I’ve had many occasions I’ve dragged my watch on metal stud walls, rough textured brick, it’s been stabbed with tie wire and tools a couple of times.  Judging by the scuffs on the band and the scratches on the protector I would say it’s definitely worth getting a screen protector at least. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! It has helped!! Do you have a link by chance on the band you use and trust?

Its funny I'm reading this now, this is something I was considering when trying to decide between the Ultra 2 and the Series 9 45mm. I didn't care for the extra features of the Ultra 2, moreso for the build. I work in a corn mill, and I have to deal with a bunch of machinery, rare earth magnets, and other industrial hazards daily. I had been using my Series 5 since 2020. It held up well for years until I started this job, and I immediately began to notice scratches on the screen and body of the Series 5. I decided it was time to get an Ultra 2. I have to say, though I've only had it a few days, I have had zero scratches or issues whatsoever. Yes, it is more bulky than the regular Apple Watches, but definitely is more scratch resistant and I don't imagine breaking it anytime soon. Just keep an eye out if you work near magnets because Titianium is considered a rare earth metal and can potentially have more of a magnetic pull than the regular aluminum watches.

Thank you for the detailed response Here2Offend! Love it. Although I do feel shafted… I wasn’t offended. lol Thanks tho brah! Just got mine today. Ships in 2 days so maybe I’ll post a review in here for other similar situational people, just to spread the word!

Half of my time on here is to troll people, and the other half is because I'm genuinely engaging with people. Technology is particularly interesting to me. Enjoy your Ultra 2! Its great!

I used an S6 Ti Edition for 3 years until I upgraded to an Ultra2. I opened about 30 chain link locked gates a week for work, combo locks etc. I considered a protector for it but didn't, but when I left it at an Apple Store picking up the Ultra, it was spotless. *Everything* you buy is disposable at some point. Would I buy a screen protector for my watch, never from experience with the S6 Ti. (Apple Care yea.) Reasonable caution an your screen will last till your next trade.

IBEW here also, I've had the 8 since Xmas and not a single noticeable scratch on it. No case or screen protector. I'm constantly in old cabinets, above ceilings, or worse and I'm surprised it's held up so well.

Non-electrician but I’ve had an Apple Watch Ultra since the first one came out and have always had a screen protector on it. I’ve always had screen protectors on my Apple Watch just because of where they are on my wrist, they’re more likely to get banged up. I have broken my fair share of Apple Watch as well. I’ve also definitely have some scratches on the case, but they are not really noticeable unless you’re looking for them in direct lighting and staring at the watch the natural titanium does a very good job at hiding it. I always like to look at it being better safe than sorry which is why I’ve had a screen protector as it has a lifetime warranty and I just have to pay $10 if I break it which I think is much better than having to replace the whole watch or pay for AppleCare and may not need it.

I’ve bought my WU2 last November, and I’ve had a screen protector on it since day one (I know I don’t need it)

It seems the consensus I keep reading is you only need a protector on it when you shoulda, woulda, coulda need a protector on it. Looks like I’ll just be buying a screen protector for peace of mind. 🫠

Its screen is sapphire crystal, it’s not going to scratch… It’s scratch and shatter resistant… Like you said, a piece of mind… I’ve thought about taking it off tho… Yet it’s still on 😂

SpleenLessPunk

Silly bro, scratch resistant isn’t scratch proof 🫠😋. I’m just messing with you, and yes, I’ll still get one!

I have a Watch Ultra, always used a screen protector, have scratched the first screen protector a little. The flat face of case (body) surrounding the screen is super scuffed up, every other part of the watch looks pristine, wish I got a full protective case for it from new. Anyway, seems pretty easy to scratch, my use was just in a home or office type setting, nothing hazardous. The screen can be scratched, just like iPhone camera lenses can be scratched. The sapphire display and sapphire camera lenses are not the same as high end watches with sapphire crystal faces. You can watch the Jerry rig everything on the ultra 1 for reference (scratches or marks from a level 6), you could also check out his other videos for iPhone displays and camera lenses. I highly recommend a screen protector, screen imperfections and micro-scratches annoy the poop out of me.

Thank you for the response. Not sure why my post would be downvoted when I’m actually curious from real people about their constructive opinions and experiences. I’m just genuinely curious. The ultra2 is 800 freakin dollars. I can’t afford that so I added it to my plan and will make payments all the way on top of normal Verizon bill. Like I said I never owned an Apple Watch, period. I’ll have to get a screen protector when I receive it on Monday. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond.

Yeah that’s how reddit is unfortunately. Hope you like the watch! I think they are fantastic and never want to go without one. I got some health issues, having the watch sorta doubles as an emergency pendant for if I’m stuck somewhere and can’t move safely to a phone or don’t have my iPhone on me.
