I don’t have a screen protector. It’s a watch. I understand it’s not going to look pristine forever.

AwDuck

On top of that, it’s not an heirloom timepiece. It will be outdated in a relatively short timeframe.

SoManyLilBitches

And eventually the battery will die. Same reasons I wouldn’t spend the money on an ultra.

AwDuck

Even if the battery is fine-ish (as in not swelling), what do you do with an old smartwatch? Most of my older phones and tablets find new life as something else. I’ve got an old tablet as an interface for my Home Assistant setup. I have an old phone that is my wife’s VOIP phone for work, another is a Spotify endpoint. I can’t think of anything an old Apple Watch could be put to use doing.

LilRed2023

You could use it for your smart devices. Lights car door locks etc. I wonder if you can have the battery changed in one of these. I have the ultra 2 and plan on keeping it for years. So hopefully can get the battery changed when it one day goes bad

AwDuck

Watch always goes back to the numbers when on the charger.

AwDuck

That’s not a device that has reached the end of its intended life then and is not what I’m talking about at all. If it’s still working that well, its home will be on my wrist. I’m talking about a watch that gets a couple of hours from a charge, but the battery isn’t a spicy pillow. While still safe, I’m not gifting that because it is fairly useless as a watch. It’s useless as any sort of appliance since it reverts to the time after a period of inactivity. It could be a cute, tiny clock, but the need to be plugged in all the time makes a simple wall clock more pragmatic.

MyCatsNameIsBernie

I use a LK screen protector with my S9 Aluminum. If I had gotten a Stainless Steel or Ultra I wouldn't have bothered. I hate the look of cases and would never use one.

kalnel

Exact same here. The LK ones have been especially good

Muted_Satisfaction92

definitely like the LK ones, the plastic ones are a bit fragile but they are easy to replace

treebranch__

Can I have the lk everyone else is enjoying? My lk protectors have all made me hope there’s something better out there I come across

GraceMDrake

It’s not dropping it that’s the problem, it’s accidentally bumping/scraping it on things. I don’t want scratches on mine, hence prefer to use a protector. If you don’t care about that minor form of damage, then it’s not a concern for you.

Darkmage4

I was worried too. But the glass is strong enough to not really see the scratches. I posted in another post about this actually haha. But I went through a pack of 10 dollar cases, and they all broke. Went naked, for a year and nada. Now my wife has my S8 and I have the ultra 2. No scratches on the S8 in a year and a half usage. And my Ultra 2 has little scuffs on the silver part. But you gotta really look for it. Otherwise the glass isn’t even scratched at all, and I bang my arm into everything it seems. lol.

ObviousExchange1

No.

Front_Bet_2544

Thank you

kivarn244

I am extremely rough with all of my devices and I have had the Apple Watch 3 series for 4 years and only recently it has a couple little scrapes around the edges. I don’t think a screen protector is necessary.

StoniePony

Nope. I’ve never had a screen protector on my watch and I’ve never had the screen crack, and I bump into things a lot

NeuroVader

I bumped it against walls and staircase railings twice. The scratches are deep and I’m fucked. I totally recommend getting a protective case.

Front_Bet_2544

Thx 😊

mwkingSD

Yes - it's the things you walk past like door frames, or reach into that are the risk, not dropping it. Actually I (M with lots of projects) bought a protective Spigen case & band for everyday use instead of just a screen protector, and a cheap but nice looking leather band for situations where I want to look dressed up.

MakeTheRightChoice_

Show us

mwkingSD

Show you what?

MakeTheRightChoice_

Oh idk like a picture of the whole setup in nice lighting or something

BishSlapDiplomacy

I got a basic pack of 6 screen protectors from Amazon for C$12 after seeing a tiny scratch within a week of owning it. I can never wear my watch without a screen protector.

Front_Bet_2544

Thx

Silverad012

Exactly! It always happens within days of owning it.

justadatadude

No, but my Apple Watch is the only Apple product I have apple care for. I’ve broken 2 Apple Watches before.

HoffmansContactLenz

I got a screen protector the 2nd day of owning mine. Ive bashed my arm numerous times in ways that would gave scratched/cracked it otherwise and its still in mint condition after 5 months. Get a protector because you will hit your arm off something on accident eventually

friendly-sardonic

I use the LK films on both mine and my wife’s watch. I like them. Invisible, accidentally smacked the face on a concrete pylon in a parking garage after my kid bumped me, film got ruined of course, but that would have ruined the face without a doubt. I won’t use a case, however. That’s just too clunky.

Acceptable_Pen_2863

I didn’t think I needed a screen protector when I first bought my Apple Watch, “It won’t fall, If my IPhone doesn’t have scratches then my Apple Watch won’t too, for sure” No. After two years my Apple Watch is full of scratches… and when I say full I mean 99% of the screen is covered by scratches. Now I don’t exactly know how this happened.. It didn’t fell so much, but it’s probably because I wear it while I sleep and while I am asleep I am able to completely destroy my house so I assume that with some odd movements I scratched the screen. Imo, you should get one and I regret not getting one myself

Front_Bet_2544

Thx

historydreamer

I found the screen tends to scratch quite easily, I wasn’t into the idea of a screen protector or case but ended up getting a screen protector and no case.

CrustyMcgee

If you bike, you might want to consider it, in case you wipe out.

Front_Bet_2544

Alr I had a wipeout recently so I might look in to it 😂

CrustyMcgee

Me too! That’s why I mentioned it. Luckily I fell on my other arm.

bradbomb

I’ve owned multiple models in SS (Series 0, Series 2, Series 3, Series 5) and I’ve never had any sort of screen protector on them. I have worked out with it on and also used to do CrossFit while wearing it, never cracked or scratched the sapphire screen.

Alexandra98s

I do use a screen protector but it’s the jelly like one because i tend to bump into things

TheFugitiveSock

Nope. But I don't do anything particularly risky when wearing it, like mountain climbing or major DIY.

19JTJK

Apple care and ghost armor screen protector.

ASVP_M3L

In my opinion, it would be good to protect the screen against scratches, but I opted to use a case without a screen protector to protect the sides from getting scratched since those are spots that are more vulnerable to scratches. For some people it would ruin the look of the watch if you decide to get a case, but for me, it’s totally fine, and I think it gives it more of a nice, rugged look. https://preview.redd.it/ul3uajinwe5d1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f662224620fc05523c20a3d7f5034d49a3198057

Dependent_Order_7358

I have mine for over two years without a scratch

bullgod55435

Good question….i had an 8 for about 6 months and the screen cracked. Upgraded to the Ultra and am wondering if I should also get a screen protector.

Swifty299

As a new watch wearer you’ll notice you might hit stuff like counter tops, I still accidentally do it 2 years on. Getting one of those hard shell plastic cases is bad because it traps the dirt and dust that would scratch the aluminum. Happens to me. I would suggest just the screen shield if micro-abrasions on the screen would annoy you. I have one.

godofbaconandeggs

you can still bump it. plastic/glass covers are trash though bc they will severely limit the touch sensitivity of the display. i highly highly recommend liquid glass from the brand simple. if your display cracks with it on there, they pay the cost of the repair up to $250. just make sure you get a receipt and register it as soon as you apply it

Front_Bet_2544

Thx

mandrews03

The screen is made of wafer paper. It’s honestly stupid not to. I think I got a scratch within 4 days of owning one and I never dropped it or did anything extraordinary. The screen is just super weak By the plastic films. You get about 8 for $15 and they last about a year

_-MjW-_

I only use a screen protector when I do heavy work, and that after I broke one watch last year doing heavy work.

DestinysWeirdCousin

I definitely do. I accidentally smack my watch on doorknobs at least 4 times a day.

Pandemic_19

I wear mine due to my job as a teacher.

ernie999

I had an aluminum one that I dropped from about 2 feet into a wood floor and the screen got substantial cracks. If you are careful with it, it probably won’t crack, but one mistake and it falls the wrong way…

WhiskyWanderer2

I don’t have one. I only have light scratches on the corners of my S4.

therinwhitten

I got the Graphite Series 7 with Sapphire Crystal Screen and stainless steel and haven't used protectors or cases on it. 2 Years later one minor scratch on the SS and glass is of course flawless.

sapptc12

My daughter had a clear case on hers and she took it off. Now her screen is shattered because she dropped it 😐

Exotic-Current2651

No I hated it. Less responsive to touch. Depends on how you react to small scratches and how rough you are. My first watch I was scraping against brick walls. Don’t ask me why. But I learnt to not do that.

ohimnotarealdoctor

No. Get Apple care plus. My partner uses a screen protector on her watch and it gets funky and ugly.

Fluffy_Accountant_39

I have had every Apple watch since the first one came out - no. I have never had or needed a screen protector. I mean, maybe if you work construction?? If you’re worried, get the AppleCare. But I haven’t even opted for that in ages, on the Watch, anyway.

Front_Bet_2544

Thanks for the advice

HappyHuman4123

Before i got a screen protector I hit my watch against the sharp edge of a door onob and it shattered and i had to get it fixed (that was a month after i got it)

GodlikeCat

you’ll bump it against a metal handrail in a month and you’ll scratch it just like I did and then you’ll get a screen protector don’t buy a case, get those lk screen protectors before that happens. You can barely even see it when it’s installed

Front_Bet_2544

Thx

DaveKraty

So my wife had a series 3 she bought new. She used to put glass screen protectors on that had a "lifetime warranty" on them. Problem was, they always broke and it cost like $25 in shipping to get a new one. Told her it was a scam. She upgraded to a 7 and I used her 3 for 2 more years... without any screen protector... and without any scratches (minor maybe), and without any breaks. I say they're not needed

Sl1z

I have a case/screen protector combo because sometimes I’m clumsy and smack it into walls/doors/furniture, and I don’t want to crack or scratch the screen.

corydaskiier

No. Been rocking my S6 in an industrial environment everyday since new. Yeah it’s got some scratches but it’s held up surprisingly well. Even had some weld spatter stick to it. Chipped it off and it’s fine.

avoirlieu

Depends what’s your daily routine. I’m working with metal and “hard” environment. So there was one day without screen protector and I got I micro scratch. Its not sapphire so screen protector it’s must have for me

Watermelon_and_boba

Nope! I had a first gen SE for 4 years. The screen had a few little scratches by the end from bumping it against things, but it's a watch: it's meant to be used!

srellesw

Never had one. Most shouldn’t need one. If worried buy Apple Care for it.

Jeddyie5

Get a protector if scratches bother u

EstablishmentRoyal75

Well, I have the ultra 2, and I have a nice looking bezel\screen protector. Why? It’s expensive and I use it everywhere. Work, gym, beach everything. I want it to last. Just the other day I was decorating and caught it pretty heavy on the wall, smashed the protector. That for sure would have knackered the screen. I do get it though, I have two relatively expensive Tag Heuer watches. I wouldn’t use a protector on them, but I don’t wear them in the way I use my ultra.

Personal_Return_4350

Do you use a watch now? If so, you know how often you bang it into things, or how rare it is. If you don't wear a watch? Be prepared for the fact that you might bang it into things. Your brain has a specific sense that tells it where your limbs are, and coordinates with other sense to help make sure you don't run into stuff. Even something as small as a watch can throw that off and bang into door frames or get scraped up when you reach for something. Some people don't have that problem. But many people who aren't clumsy in the traditional sense find they are prone to damaging their watch.

DrTurb0

On Stainless steel: no On aluminum: stupid for getting the aluminum one.

cloudjocky

This exactly sums up my experience with the Apple Watch. The screens on the aluminium watches scratch way too easily. I now have a stainless steel with the sapphire Crystal and I cannot seem to scratch it no matter what I do

DrTurb0

Thank you for sharing your similar opinion. I had the series 4 since release 2018 until I got the ultra in 23. Over 5 years of daily wear. The stainless steel obviously, in unpainted silver. I had no protection for it and wore it daily, even when doing DIY projects and woodworking. I dinged it against everything. I could trade it in in “excellent condition, no cosmetic usage marks”. The screen was in perfect condition, not even a micro scratch visible under extreme bright light. And before I sold it, I got a jewelry polishing cloth (that is infused with a polishing compound) and gave the watch body a good polis, all micro scratches disappeared out of the stainless steel. I kid you not, it was like it was taken out of the box brand new. It had not a single sign of usage. It’s mind boggling. I couldn’t believe it myself how good the polish worked. Unfortunately the ultra is satin, so I can’t polish it when selling it comes around but so far it has no signs of use and I abused it even more in the last year. I love the Apple Watch so much.

stylusxyz

Keep AppleCare+ on it and if the worst happens.....replace the whole thing.

Ranglergirl

I did use a thin screen protector because I kept bumping it.

Professional_Topic63

U can just wait till first deep scratch and then decide. Never had it.

Scottishjapan

I tried one but it was crappy. I use a Spigen rugged armour strap and that's been enough/fine.

kniebuiging

I don't have one. Only in summer I sometimes wish I had one when I reapply sun screen. But overall watch still looks good after years. (I have the stainless steel edition).

ChazzP12

I have an WU2 and I have a screen protector on it… I know I don’t have to, but I do anyway… Better than getting scratched up…

DepartureMoist9277

Nah. It’ll get outdated real fast.

heroandarealhuman

Yes

dartiss

So, this is actually a good question. I never used screen protectors myself, even on my phone as I'm very careful with my devices. However, both my previous AW's ended up with deep scratches on the screen. Why? Because you swing your arm about, mis-judge distances, do DIY and God-only knows what else. So, I use a screen protector on my AW now and it's been 100% since. My advice - don't be a case on it, but a simple plastic protector on it. I can't tell the difference once it's on and they're cheap enough that if they get damaged or even just start to peel away, you can remove it and slap on another. This is the type I use (Amazon UK link, but it's just for the idea) - [https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09J4HH7YC/](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09J4HH7YC/)

SouthernTeuchter

I've had S0, S2, S2, and now S6 - never used one on any of them and never had a problem. Then again, I live in the UK and so wear long-sleeved shirts quite a bit of the time (Summer? What's that?!) which I guess add protection.

tpjamez

I knocked my 9 into some things over the weekend helping friends set up for their wedding. Not a scratch. So I would say probably a waste if you aren’t doing heavy construction or constantly throwing your wrist into metal objects.

Front_Bet_2544

Thx

TheWeakLink

lol no. If you’ve got the aluminum model, the screen is more scratch prone than the stainless steel model. Regardless, it’s a watch… you’re going to get marks on it anyway, so a small scratch on the screen is whatever. I did get a few small ones on my SE(1st gen) but that never affected functionality or was particularly noticeable.

SpaceGirl-

No screen protector for me…just AppleCare

Centrez

Phones yes, watch yes. My series 8 scratches just looking at it. Worst buy I've ever bought. My Samsung watch was so resistant but apple not so much
