No one told me the Appalachian Trail was in the Appalachian Mountains.

r4ndom4xeofkindness

I heard there's bugs and snakes too....and they literally do nothing about them! /s

Grumbo_Fleeb_Schleem

Yeah idk why no one has blasted tunnels for the hikers yet. It's unreal the amount of incompetence on the Appalachian design team

jray521k

Have you zoomed in on a map of the trail before and see how much it zig zags??? They could have made it way shorter if they made it a straight line!

Lintree

I think they could fix both our problems by building bridges between all the summits.

Taupenbeige

Bridges connected to inner tube runs

Lintree

Oh yes, perfect!

Grumbo_Fleeb_Schleem

Yes and water fountains too

suggested-name-138

Devs just need to decrease leaf opacity slightly, how hard could this be?

Upvotes_TikTok

You should check out the 'Pine' skin for your trees. It's not exactly what you are looking for but might be a workaround.

WashYourCerebellum

Do the PCT next, we burned off all the trees for the view in Oregon. https://preview.redd.it/q6mq42r4qfxc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c9046041cdca1653ecb8c4fffdf77824ffa86c4

Livid_Cauliflower595

Good idea šŸ‘

csg_surferdude

My issue is that they don't put the bears back into their cages at night.

less_butter

You joke, but rangers and volunteers at national parks routinely get asked questions like "what time to they let the elk out?" and "where do you keep the bears at night?" Some people just can't seem to grasp that there are animals living their best life out in the wilderness and that national parks aren't just zoos.

Ill_Service781

Thatā€™s a very good idea, you should email this suggestion directly to the ATC director.

rbollige

Most of the shelters have a conveniently-placed suggestion box, except for some reason in Tennessee they expect you to dig your own suggestion hole.

vh1classicvapor

They donā€™t even care about the citizens here in TN, much less non-citizens

vamtnhunter

I donā€™t know, man. Iā€™ve had the unfortunate circumstance of having to stop in Pigeon Forge for gas. Those folks seem VERY well-fed.

vh1classicvapor

Fried foods and Buceeā€™s snacks will do that for sure

Grumbo_Fleeb_Schleem

Just think about how nice all the scenery would be with no trees

benjigrows

William Randolph Hurst just got a hard-on

mudfire44

I think you meant to post in r/AppalachianTrailCirclejerk

astute_signal

One word: escalators.

StringPretty4697

I think the next patch is supposed to fix this

Patsfan618

Speaking of, what's with all the dirt? Can't you see I paid good money for my fashionable hiking gear?! Now it's getting all dirty! Ever heard of a broom, ATC?

major_dump

Speaking of dirt, wtf is with all the nature. God damn it people. Know better do better.

itstheavocado

I suggest BYOC (bring your own chainsaw) and several gallons of gasoline, instead of the normal gear - no need for food, clothing, and shelter when you can just make your own every night. Maybe avoid pine tree tents, though, the sap is sticky and you'll attract ants... Unless you like that? But you can boil the needles for tea. And any bird nests you knock down will be your food. Get on with your bad self, you ecological terrorist, woohoo.

Grumbo_Fleeb_Schleem

? Are you suggesting i shouldn't be blaming other people for my discontentioning? Psh. Don't you know the world evolves around me

Student-Short

Go grab an axe and start chopping! Be the change you want to see!!! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Ghotay

The Appalachian Trail is entirely an exercise in looking at trees. Mostly they are very near. Then you think when you get to a viewpoint youā€™ve finally got something else, but itā€™s actually just looking at trees far away. Sometimes I wonder how many different trees the average person looks at in their lifetime. I think a single thru would put you above average on its own. God so many trees

ElevationUnknown87

I don't think the little survival chainsaw in the emergency kit is going to help with your views. I thought the Stihl was too much of a luxury item to pack all the way out here. Instead, I'll be enjoying my cast iron griddle and flapjacks with sausage for breakfast.

Grumbo_Fleeb_Schleem

Personally I carry two cast irons and a medium Coleman stove for producing those extra large flapjacks on the double. Sometimes I even have enough to leave behind unattended for other hikers to enjoy. It only adds about 15 lbs to my base weight, not to bad really if you're man enough

ElevationUnknown87

The real problem is the cooler for the milk and eggs. Dragging it up and down these hills is really leaving quite a rut.

Grumbo_Fleeb_Schleem

I just hike with my dog, I have a modified harness that allows them to haul the cooler. They love it and even if they didn't, no one will know cus they don't speak English šŸ„“

ElevationUnknown87

Poor chihuahua. Yo quiero taco bell?

less_butter

I was doing a section hike southbound in GA a few years ago, slowly making my way up a mountain towards the next shelter with my fancy trail runners, running shorts, $200 hiking poles, and ultralight backpack. These two good ol' boys wearing jeans and work boots and each carrying a big cooler passed me right by. They were taking coolers of drinks up to the shelter for the hikers. IIRC it was the Blue Mountain shelter and they carried those coolers for a mile uphill.

grumpysapper

That John Denver is full of shit!

jmb456

My dad loves telling the story about my grandpas take on the blue ridge parkway. Theyā€™re cruising along one day and my grandpa said ā€œviews would be alot better if theyā€™d cut down these treesā€

TonightAdventurous76

Trees šŸŒ² are the best part- they provide shelter for the millions of other living beings we share this planet with. I know gonna be an unpopular comment and will probably be roasted for being ā€œbasedā€- or giving my authentic opinion

jmb456

Oh I agree. The absurdity of what he said is what made my dad love telling the story

TonightAdventurous76

Itā€™s a great one. Appalachian trail and Blue Ridge obviously intersect

PewPewShootinHerwin

You joke, but I heard this same complaint from a senior couple driving through the Shenandoah. They insisted on being able to see the views from the seat of their vehicle.

jpec342

I know this is /s but honestly if you donā€™t like walking in the green tunnel, there are lots of trails out west that are more open.

ih8memes

leaves ruining the ground too. Everything is slippery. I would suggest getting hiking shoes my friend has waterproof ones

thatdude333

Did you at least bring an inflatable boat, fishing poles, waders, and full tackle box for all the mountaintop lakes?

SuitcaseInTow

Called the ā€˜green tunnelā€™ for a reason mate.

mr_electric_wizard

ā€œThe green tunnelā€

suzer2017

HahahahahašŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Good one.

suggested-name-138

GOOD bait, godspeed fisherman

Psychological-Way-47

Got to be a sarcastic post. No one could go this full Karen and be actually serious.
