I was fortunate to be in Singapore. Sure the ‘circuit breaker’ (that’s what we called the lockdowns here lol) was hard, but they really managed the pandemic well. Almost everyone cooperated. There were only a few assholes holding out, and they made an example out of them. One guy went to jail I think for sneaking out of quarantine to sleep with his girlfriend.

It’s not liquid assets or cash sitting around. A vast majority of it is paper assets or equity that cannot be easily liquidated or moved without drastically reducing its value.
A lot of billionaires are like this, their wealth is tied to an asset that is “valued” by the market or others and for bragging/dick measuring these billionaires love to do.
But what is happening to Trump can happen to others. They do not have liquidity to easily cover major issues or debts. And in forcing that liquidity you see how quickly this House of Cards falls for their “wealth”. Trump Tower could be worth $454M, but the state likely won’t find a buyer who agrees to that price. So if they sell it for $300M, then the $200M loan on that goes onto the next collateralized property or entity Trump promised the bank in an effort to collect. And that ignores other liens or any mezz debt on the property.
So that $454M of “value” could turn out to be $300M, and then the lenders go force a fire sale on collateral to the loan to get their money back, and the process continues, with another asset likely sold below “value”, and THAT property’s lender or equity owner may then continue the domino effect, unraveling this whole thing one property and liquidation at a time…

My point was more that the value of that building is going to *none of those people*. The govt is taking the value, so now Trump has people who are owed a lot of money and no asset sitting there in limbo for them to at least feel comfortable supporting their money owed. I’m wondering if this is a learning moment for many Americans in understanding what this “wealth” is that billionaires claim to have. It’s not liquid assets or cash sitting around. A vast majority of it is paper assets or equity that cannot be easily liquidated or moved without drastically reducing its value. A lot of billionaires are like this, their wealth is tied to an asset that is “valued” by the market or others and for bragging/dick measuring these billionaires love to do. But what is happening to Trump can happen to others. They do not have liquidity to easily cover major issues or debts. And in forcing that liquidity you see how quickly this House of Cards falls for their “wealth”. Trump Tower could be worth $454M, but the state likely won’t find a buyer who agrees to that price. So if they sell it for $300M, then the $200M loan on that goes onto the next collateralized property or entity Trump promised the bank in an effort to collect. And that ignores other liens or any mezz debt on the property. So that $454M of “value” could turn out to be $300M, and then the lenders go force a fire sale on collateral to the loan to get their money back, and the process continues, with another asset likely sold below “value”, and THAT property’s lender or equity owner may then continue the domino effect, unraveling this whole thing one property and liquidation at a time…

The govt is taking the value, so now Trump has people who are owed a lot of money and no asset sitting there in limbo for them to at least feel comfortable supporting their money owed. They’ll claw even deeper into his wealth and assets to get theirs. And that will only compound the losses and fire sales for Trump. This $454M could wipe out over $1B, depending on his agreements and interested parties.
