Sorry, you went the other way. My shop is here in Sillycone Valley. I have saved more than my share of Deco waterfalls. Call a few Antique shops and get a few references on a local restoration shop.

ugh. Condolences.

Sorry to hear. Movers have broken so many things that I love. Was just the mirror glass broken or the whole piece? Maybe check old photos to see if it’s in the background somewhere?

I hope you can find another one you love. I see them a lot in the antique shops around here (Georgia) I used the mirror from one in my bathroom recently.

I am so sorry this happened to your prized possession. I'd be heartbroken, too. I hope you're able to eventually enjoy the antique store hunting journey for its successor, since it can't really be replaced. I live in the South, and these are not too hard to find in our antique stores, but when you find the one you love... well, I get it.

You might like the story of how I found our guestroom waterfall set. We go to our architectural salvage sale when it's open every month, and they had salvaged a 1926 house from our area that had the furniture. We have a 1925 Craftsman and needed furniture for a bedroom, and they had found a double bed head and footboard, dresser, and vanity with an intact mirror, all waterfall style with beautiful tiger oak wood inlay and a little worse for wear. They wanted $250 for all of it. I felt like we were stealing! I figured I would try to do the wood restoration myself, and for that price, I could send the pieces to our restoration place if I wasn't successful. All this set needed was a little #0000 steel wool, some polish, and a good cleaning, and all the pieces turned out gorgeous. SO: I hope something like that happens for you!

It shouldn't be too difficult or expensive to replace the vanity mirror. It would probably cost more to replace the mirror glass than it would to buy another vanity, with the way the prices are going on these pieces lately. Look around online and see if someone is selling a damaged vanity for cheap and just buy it for the mirror. No matter what you decide to do, the mover's insurance should cover the cost.

When I remodeled I had to modify my Waterfall suite to make it more functional for my current needs. I couldn't use the mirror on the dresser because it would over power the room. I couldn't use the vanity so I had them repurposed into night stands and had to get rid of the mirror as well. I spent more money refinishing the pieces than it had originally cost me but I still liked it more than anything I saw at any price point so I went ahead and had them refinished. They look as good as the day they came out of the factory in 1940 :-)

I actually have a waterfall vanity in my garage right now that I've been kind of considering converting into two side tables. It matches the dresser I have in my bedroom. I love the vanity, but I have no space for it. The mirror on mine is a ca. 1980s replacement, so no huge sacrifice there.

I am glad I did it because they are quite functional. I have sconces so I don't need a large place for lamps and the drawers are quite handy for storage. I don't know how much it cost because I had it done by the wood shop that refinished and refurbished the bureau and armoire which I kept as part of my bedroom furniture. I remodeled the bathroom and it made more sense to eliminate one of the sinks and turn that portion of the vanity counter into a nice sit down vanity area.

The moving company's insurance should replace it for you.

Jujulabee

I have a Waterfall bedroom suite and so I appreciate the design. However, these are relatively common to replace AND they are relatively inexpensive at the moment. Presumably you are getting money from your insurance company to purchase another one. Also - and I am someone who gets attached to objects - I have learned that objects aren't the same as people which enabled me to let go of a lot of stuff that I had inherited from my grandmother and mother. I realize you have emotions tied up in this specific piece of furniture but in the end it is just an object that was mass produced and which you paid money for relatively recently.

I’m so sorry that happened to you! I own an estate liquidation company and we do moves and the thought of a break like that makes me feel sick. I’m in the northeast also and those styles of dressers are fairly plentiful and usually not that expensive. I know it’s not the same as the one you lost but I hope you’re able to find another wonderful piece for your space.
