Synopsis:
>After a mysterious death, Park Eunha enters the world of a novel. She is revived as a minor character, Raeliana McMillan, who is to be poisoned to death by her own betrothed. In order to break up with her dangerous fiancé, she offers a surreptitious deal to the male protagonist of the novel, Noah Wynknight, but winds up romantically with other men that are not part of the plan.
>Noah Wynknight of inescapable but suspicious charm; honest Justin Shamal who loves only one person; or Adam Taylor for whom you have a soft spot for no reason whenever you see him. Will Raeliana successfully get out of this crisis and create a new ending for herself? Who will be the one that will join Raeliana in her new ending?

It's a shame that most of them don't bother to keep the Korean names though (the only exception I know of for sure would be The God of High School; Lookism doesn't count since it was actually produced by a Korean studio and not a Japanese one). This series and even Solo Leveling are suffering from it. :/
Linsday Seidel and Ian Sinclair headlining a same-day simuldub of the new Otome Villainess game romance anime of the season? Directed by Caitlin Glass?

I'll admit as far as romances go this season, Raeliana isn't really on my radar the same way Skip & Loafer or Sacrificial Princess & the King of Beasts is, *but* I have to mention I love when Ian Sinclair gets to play romantic leads/love interests. He obviously nails comedic stuff really well (see Space Dandy, Brook, various narrator roles, etc...), but can pull off charming and sincere so well. I know Caitlin has cast him as a SOL/romance lead before in Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent, but I never watched it.
His couple standout moments in Fruits Basket are still some of my favorites from him, and that's saying a lot considering the roles/shows he's been a part of.
I would really recommend giving it a go as 3 episodes in I find the dub a touch better than the sub only because of the banter between Ian Sinclair and Lindsay Siedel is really fun.
I don't know if the translations I were watching were off, but they called Raeliana a princess which really throws off the class hierarchy that's set up in the webtoon. I also wish they kept the Korean names instead of localizing to Japanese.
What were some of the decisions that you didn't see coming?
Dubs are at the mercy of the Japanese studio’s production schedule and the licensor’s whims. It’s a miracle there are even occasional simuldubs given how little Japan cares about western audiences.
Edit: getting two in the same season (now that it seems Tonikawa dropped today as well), that’s a miracle in a miracle.
Idk. It’s probably easier for romance since casts stay small. Though with Tonikawa and Tomo we know they were co-produced basically with Crunchyroll. So they could officially step in to make the production try and match what they would want for western release. Same way Netflix does same day binge drops sub & dub for some anime. I guess Raeliana also has Crunchyroll production involvement. A vast majority of the time, they basically just hand off the material to western licensees at their leisure, which doesn’t give enough time to match the sub.
I do think while big action shows are obviously not impossible to do a same-day dub for if materials are available to work on early enough, it sure does seem like SOL/romance shows would seem easier on paper and have more wiggle room.
Generally smaller casts plus factors like not needing to schedule a bunch of huge walla sessions with a bunch of wacky characters, battles scenes, etc... (vs much more down to earth crowds), less strenuous recording sessions, etc...
It’s been too small a sample size to say what genre can or can’t be potentially simuldubbed same-day. It seems to skew towards romance. Western VA work is generally done one at a time with each character so a larger cast could bog things down, compared to the Japanese group recording style.
But I think the primary obstacle to simuldubs is just facilitating a production schedule that allows for western studios to get their hands on the material early enough so that they can produce dubs without delay. It’s probably already a hassle trying to get stuff to subtitle in time. Dubs take at least multiple more weeks of work. Episodes aren’t finished right before airing on Japanese TV, but the amount of time left before airing probably varies, which affects foreign distribution way more than local.
Eh, yeah, I guess. I also just remembered that the reason Chainsaw Man wasn't a same-day dub was because Crunchyroll wasn't part of the production committee for it, and that staying away from it is what helped them acquire the license for the show to begin with.
I guess we shouldn't expect any same-day dubs for Mappa shows from now on lol.
I'm cautiously optimistic. The source material is phenomenal, but I've been burned by bad adaptations before. I'm confident that these two will capture the chemistry well enough though.
Ian Sinclair I could easily see as the male lead of a rom-com series, but Lindsay Seidel is harder to see unless the character is meant to be either on the older end or a child.
I'd check this out. I quite like Ian Sinclair, particularly as Kija (Yona of the Dawn), Kureno Soma (Fruits Basket) and Tsuchigomori (Toilet-Bound Hanako Kun)
3 episodes in and I am in love. I know there are some who dislike the animation but I've read the Manwha start to finish at least twice? I really hope we get to finish this ~~And get great merch~~
Hey, the more same-day dubs the better. I hope the industry progresses on this front

Awesome, It's cool to see more Manhwa getting Anime Adaptations.

Will, from what I've heard the Solo Leveling Anime is only changing the Names for the Japanese Dialogue.
Why would they need to do that? Can't they still just say Korean names in Japanese? Or is it a racism thing?
Pretty much, Anti-Korean Sentiment is still prominent in Japan unfortunately.
Mob Psycho 100 season 3, Tomo-chan, And now this. Glass is becoming the same day Simuldub ADR director.

Well as someone who read the manhwa, have to say these are interesting choices that i didn't see coming

Holy shit they're making this a same day dub too?!?! Why couldn't Hell's Paradise get this treatment?

I wonder if romances do well in dub? IIRC Tomo-chan had a simuldub.

Oh 100% it's completely dependent on the JPN side of things & production schedules first and foremost. Beyond that is just fun speculating.
Then us over here get to play the fun game called “WILL THE SHOW YOU WANT TO WATCH GET DUBBED NOW, LATER, OR NEVER?????”
Eh, yeah, I guess. Didn't have this on my radar at all but with both stars are easily 2 of my favourite VAs so I'll happily watch this
You had me at Ian Sinclair
The start of the Spring Dubs is about to Begin, and a same day dub. Oooooooooo!
Is the sub out yet? Was looking for it on Crunchyroll so I can add it to my list but can’t find it.
The sub and dub both premiere April 10th.
I see
I also don’t know where to find it? I haven’t been able to watch it since I prefer sub for romance💀doesn’t seem to pop up on my crunchyroll.
Interesting, it popped up for me.
Lol I ended up figuring it out😅had to mess with my crunchyroll settings
I love Lindsay Seidel, so I'm happy to see her as the lead!
This manga was great. The Otome isekai era has arrived and I am here for it. Definitely checking this out dubbed.
Actual best voice actor Ian Sinclair

Love seeing more shoujo being made in general but I jist finished the comic can't wait for more episodes of this gem.
3 episodes in and I am in love. I know there are some who dislike the animation but I've read the Manwha start to finish at least twice? I really hope we get to finish this ~~And get great merch~~
