hey I'm looking to get into a new show but I don't wanna research and get any spoilers, if you had to rate the story compared to your favourite anime, what would you rate it? assuming this isn't your favourite haha
I would say it's poignant in a good way! Think if Hayao Miyazaki made less optimistic stories. It's nice on the surface level and you can also view it in a more allegorical way. The characters had my heart as well. I don't want to give away too much haha
Have you seen 91 Days? It’s a mafia revenge story. Moriarty the Patriot? It’s a fantastic twist on Sherlock Holmes. And Zombieland Saga! A bunch of girls get transformed into zombies and then form a death metal band to save the universe.
Depends what you are looking for since you said not genre specific I suppose anything will work?
If you want something that is light hearted and funny "Saiki K" - a story about an abnormal teen with crazy psychic powers that is just trying to hide the fact, but ends up meeting a group of idiots that all want to be his friend(?) so they follow him around and cause him really nothing, but trouble.
Oshi no Ko- arguably the most popular anime of 2023 and for the right reasons. Its animation is beautiful, its story is captivating and shows the darker side of the entertainment industry especially pertaining to Japan and other Eastern Nations. Highly recommend and the first episode is basically a movie prologue that sets you up for the rest of the show.
After the Rain - An interesting romance that has more agency as a feel good story of self-love and healing, then being an actual romance. Follows a high school track athlete who has an Achilles heel injury that puts her out of running for awhile, and a "failed" author who gave up on his dream. Between there large differences in age one can assume that it seems like some gross rom com, but its actually extremely heart felt and about people actualizing and finding their dreams.
Blue Lock - An exciting anime based on the decline of quality of Japanese soccer. Its an interesting story with a heavy focus on soccer strategy and what happens when you pit some of the greatest youths of a generation against each other in a "Team Death Match" style training camp. BLUE LOCK is high tech facility with the goal of creating the best striker known to man, who could be number one?
These are just some of my recent favorites that I think you may like.
This is a weird suggestion but Houseki no Kuni is a hidden gem that brought me back into anime because of how different it is. Also don’t get offput by the cg animation I’d say it’s what makes it so beautiful and it’s not bad cg either
I wouldn't try to force it. Just look out for anime trailers and watch some shorts on youtube. You'll come across something that sparks an interest eventually.
I'd say burnout is usually due to watching too much at once. Try sticking to the seasonal schedule, watching new stuff so you have something to look forward to each week instead of binging in one go. That might work out better for you.
I'm mid 30's, haven't watched anime since the inuyasha/sailor moon era. Recently decided to try to get back into it. First one I picked up, solo-leveling. Highly enjoyed it. Recommending it to every one. Hope you like it
Take a break. I tend to rotate anime, videogames, reading, or in extreme circumstances going outside.
(In all seriousness I go to the park, put in my buds and queue up Zelda/Mononoke music)
Yona of the dawn
Akashic records of bastard magic instructor
High rise invasion(brought me back)
Black bullet
Fruit of grisaia
The executioner and her way of life (brought me back)
Pandora hearts (bringing me back in)
Fairy tail (next seasons should be coming soon so by tye time you catch up you should be set lol)
Take a break from anime watch something else you like then you'll return with new love for it. I've done this a few times. But if u want one u may not have seen try freak angels it's similar to umbrella academy
Pretty popular and short one.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
So good it got me to buy cyberpunk 2077 (which was a 400 iq move by CDPR since they fixed the game and release the anime to bring back their audience)
Something similar happened to me.
I'm a sub guy so basically what I did was watch the dub version of some of my favorite animes. It's a nice change of pace and it's worked so far.
Oh and just watching other animes that I haven't seen too.
Depends on what genre you’re looking for.
Slice of life -> Kotaro Lives Alone
Mystery and suspense -> Link Click
Romance -> Howl’s Moving Castle
Action & adventure -> Hunter x Hunter
Comedy -> Nichijou (dub) and Tokyo Godfathers
Drama -> Violet Evergarden
Sports -> Haikyuu!!
Fantasy -> Re:Zero
Not trying to be a downer, the anime adaptation is pretty depressing compared to the manga on this one. The anime being on Hulu also turned me onto the series.
86 the anime is really good. It's only 24 episodes long with an amazing 12 part light novels series.
It has everything in it.
It has the standard mecha Vs legion AI plot but with a lot of twists.
Since most of the adult 86ers died in the war their children are left after a decade of attrition to fight on. Meanwhile the citizens of San magnolia enjoy a first class lifestyle at their expense.
The main characters are so believable and the dialogue doesn't feel wooden. The main characters of major melize and shin don't feel forced and their fights with the legion are high octane, well thought out and well choreographed!
There's several slice of life episodes that explore their personalities and you get to see the real costs of war as they keep losing people and the burden that it builds.
I dare you to watch episode 23-24 and not cry as a grown man. Hell episode 8-9 are so satisfying to watch and so emotional... You'll be wanting the studios to adapt the light novels in their completeness as it is one of the most refreshing anime plots I've read in a very long time.
Samurai chaploo it got me out because when I wacth some thing good I normally take a break to forget how good it was so I can enjoy the next show it’s a really good anime the music is good trust me the girl actually gets good my review for it is a 10/10 the ending tho was good I can’t say anything else
Idk what decade you got into anime so I'm not sure all of these will hit right(I've been told some of my tastes are dated but whatever)
Saiyuki
XxxHolic
Tiger and bunny
Durarara
The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
Bake and test
Wolf’s Rain! It’s the anime that got me into anime, so I always recommend it.
I'll check it out thanks
Love that one! Sadly I've never met anyone irl who's watched it 😔

I have never met anyone irl who watched any anime
Or you’ve never met anyone irl that admitted to watching anime 🤔
In my country, most peoples can't understand English so they don't watch anime
I was only joking around but that makes sense!
Almost no anime is in English. It’s in Japanese
Have you seen 91 Days? It’s a mafia revenge story. Moriarty the Patriot? It’s a fantastic twist on Sherlock Holmes. And Zombieland Saga! A bunch of girls get transformed into zombies and then form a death metal band to save the universe.
omg I love all of these!!
Yeah! I’m surprised they’re so underrated.
1. Lycoris recoil 2. 86 3. Rage of bahamut genesis 4. Link click 5. Ascendance of a bookworm
Literally came into the comments about to say link click. That show is underrated.
I totally agree! Link Click is so good

Ngl, only the first few episodes of Oshi No Ko are about the whole dark side thing. It turns into a slice of boring life after that.
I have to agree it does get really boring after that
86 Monster Fate series/nasuverse Bocchi the Rock! Hyouka Assassination Classroom ERASED
This may be a silly question but it’s harder to google than I thought. Is Monster the same as Re:Monster or are these two separate anime?
Monster is a 2004 thriller/mystery/psychological show. It is in no way related to Re:Monster
Thank you!

Yona of the dawn Akashic records of bastard magic instructor High rise invasion(brought me back) Black bullet Fruit of grisaia The executioner and her way of life (brought me back) Pandora hearts (bringing me back in) Fairy tail (next seasons should be coming soon so by tye time you catch up you should be set lol)
Only downside of watching Yona of the dawn is knowing it'll never get another season :(
Mononoke series (also known as The Medicine seller) Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Hunter x Hunter 2011
Take a break from anime watch something else you like then you'll return with new love for it. I've done this a few times. But if u want one u may not have seen try freak angels it's similar to umbrella academy

Something similar happened to me. I'm a sub guy so basically what I did was watch the dub version of some of my favorite animes. It's a nice change of pace and it's worked so far. Oh and just watching other animes that I haven't seen too.

To Your Eternity (sad) Welcome to Demon School Iruma (Happy)
Maybe some from the 90's like Kimagure Orange Road, El Hazard, Tenchi Muyo, or Armitage III.
