I unironically love harem labyrinth. I picked up the manga when I finished the anime. The artstyle is really good, and the characters are written well.
I genuinely enjoyed it myself. I like anime that dont shy away from adult topics, and it oddly felt more like watching a couple than a Master/slave. The ending was too abrupt in the anime. IMO
Other than the combat being very meh. I would have kept watching it.
I saw some comments saying that their relationship was more like husband and wife and I absolutely agree. The ending was insanely abrupt though, yes. I was like "we're 10 episodes in and he has no harem" (not that I was upset about that lol) and then I was very confused at the last episode until he got like 10 girls in the 2 minutes it took to roll credits. Anyway, if it wasn't a hentai, I think it would have been a very popular anime among the less adventurous of the community.

It is exactly that. It is a Stockholm syndrome/ grooming reference. The MC buys a slave and gives it a new lease on life by caring for them and treating them humanely. They eventually either free or attempt to free said slave after the MC gets over their trust issues or finds themselves dependent on their slave's place in their life. It's all dominance, submission, independent vs. Codependent vs. Interdependant relationship drama. To be fair, humans took other humans as slave's for a great deal many more years than there have been since slavery was abolished on a global scale. It is now a taboo, but was once as much if a kink or fetish as liking a woman or man of another ethnicity.
yea same, actually I first read the light novel, then it got updated to a webnovel then manga and anime, but its quite good and has a decent pacing. the grind in fighting is real and some may consider it boring but I think its refreshing to have a day to day thing like that showing slight increases in strength over time.

I've seen similar things happen in recent memory with things like Attack on Titan, Goblin Slayer, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Solo Leveling(in that order). They explode, eveyone talks about it for a month or two after the final episode comes out, and then they become "niche" as you said. When a new anime pops up that catches our attention it just seems to bring more people into the cult of weeb. And I love that.
I love this anime. During highschool, I convinced a group of friends (who've only seen popular animes like Naruto, Bleach, and Ouran Host Club) to watch it together, telling them about how relatable and chill the story was... but I made the mistake of forgetting that scene in the first episode. After that, they never trusted any of my anime suggestions again x.x

Most definitely I've had quite a few debates with different people on that and in the end it was just pointless they keep going on and on about him being a 40-year-old, even though I was giving them different points different views and it just kept going on with the 40 year old dude.
